Tallarin Saltado Chicha Morada Lomo Saltado

My wife and I visited Flama Llama on Convoy in San Diego for the first time, and it definitely won't be our last. We had a great experience from start to finish, and our server, Julia, made us feel welcomed and taken care of throughout our meal. She was friendly, attentive, and helped make our first visit even better. I ordered the Lomo Saltado, and it was absolutely delicious -- the beef was tender and flavorful, and everything was cooked perfectly. My wife had the Tallarin Saltado, which she really enjoyed as well. The flavors were fresh, rich, and packed with that comforting, satisfying taste that makes you want to come back again. The food, atmosphere, and service all came together for a fantastic experience. If you're looking for a great spot on Convoy with amazing food and excellent service, Flama Llama is definitely worth checking out. Thanks again to Julia for making our first visit such a memorable one!

Got here on Saturday morning, not too crowded! Extremely friendly service and our server Emily was very attentive, accommodating, helpful with answering our questions, providing recommendations, helping with drinks/refills, sauces, etc. Best server I've had! I noted that she's also very efficient in not only helping our table with other tables as well/handling the store. I ordered the lomo saltado, the green sauce (cilantro) was zesty, light and refreshing. The chipotle sauce was a zingy spicy kick which tasted pretty good. The fries overall were crispy but some were drenched with the beef sauce--which made them pretty salty) The beef is tender, but slightly dry, and is saltier than I'd usually eat so had to drink a lot of water to mitigate that. Also tried the botanical chicha morada, with purple corn, cinnamon, ginger green apple, earl grey which was a pleasant light drink. Overall the ambience and vibes were good, but the food was too salty to finish and I pretty much togo'ed 2/3rds of it to probably add in other ingredients to finish at home. My recommendation would be to have the meal 1/2 less saltier, fries separate from the beef's sauce, beef cut a little thicker to reduce dryness--please take this with a grain of salt :) haha. Food 2/5, service 5/5. But, just because of the friendly atmosphere, I'd be back to try other dishes.

I visited Flama Llama on Convoy today with a friend, and it was a fantastic experience from start to finish. The Food: We ordered the Lomo Saltado and the Ropa Vieja (which came with perfectly sweet plantains). We ended up sharing both because they were too good not to try! The beef in the saltado was tender and flavorful, and the ropa vieja was rich and savory. To wash it all down, we had the Chicha Morada--it was incredibly refreshing and served in a beautiful traditional clay mug with free refills! The Vibe & Service: The interior is filled with lush greenery and a warm, inviting atmosphere that makes you want to stay a while. Latin music in the background that really set the mood. Our server, Nick, was excellent. He was attentive and gave us good recommendations. If you're in the Convoy area and looking for authentic, delicious Latin American food with great service, this is the spot!

Flams Llama has figured it out! We loved both dishes we tried. The Lomo Soltado and the Pollo à la Brasa. The food was seasoned beautifully and the salsa verde complimented the food perfectly! The service was good and the restaurant itself was clean and decorated beautifully! This was definitely worth the stop!

    Visit April 2026: Lomo Saltado

Visit April 2026 This is my second time here but never reviewed after first visit. Shame on me. Came here for lunch on Tax Day 2026. Not sure if that is important but hey its my review, not yours. While the parking lot is completely claustrophobic, there were spots. You get 90 min complimentary parking. The restaurant is nicely decorated with Peruvian inspired items, a lot of colorful faux plants, and of course a fake llama to take a picture with. The place is fairly large with a patio. We were greeted by Nick who led us to our table and gave menu recommendations. I opted to order the "Botanical Chicha Morada" at his suggestion for a non-alcoholic drink. Mind you it was Tax Day and alcohol was TOTALLY calling my name but I was the driver. The drink was refreshing and something you could totally enjoy at poolside on a summer day. It is a concoction of earl grey, ginger, cinnamon, lime juice, green apples, pineapple, and purple corn. Better yet, free refills which on a visit on Tax Day came in handy. The family ended up doubling up our orders, both dishes recommended by Nick. My wife and one daughter both ordered the Ropa Vieja which was kind of like a beef stew using flank meat, bell peppers, and tomato. It came with a side of plantains (ridiculously good), and rice. This was a fantastic dish and probably the one I should have ordered. My other daughter and I ordered the Lomo Saltado, the soy marinated beef stir fry. It comes served over fries and at his suggestion I got the thin fries (more crispy) versus the wedge fries. Comes with a side of rice so carb heaven. I was disappointed in the beef, feeling it was a tad overcooked. We also got a side of garlic noodles which were great. Totally garlicky and al dente. Flama Llama is a return trip for me. *Tangent Note: The Emperor's New Groove is one of the most underrated Disney movies. Sorry, thought of the movie as I was writing.

I happened to be in the area and found Flama Llama on Yelp with very good reviews. I started lunch with the yucca fries and it was a great start especially with the 2 sauces that came with them. The green sauce was very mild and had a clilantro lime flavor. The reddish sauce had some fire to it and it had habanero and chipotle in it. Both sauces really accentuated the fries. The ropa vieja came out in a nice presentation with white rice and plantains and the green sauce. The beef was very tender and flavorful. My server Emily was very helpful and her service was complete. The ambience and layout of the restaurant were top notch. I will definitely be back for more!

Flama Llama is a hidden gem. Friday night at 7pm and we were seated almost immediately, great sign. The garlic noodles we ordered with chicken and the lomo saltado were both delicious with FRESH ingredients. Both were cooked perfectly, flavorful green sauce, and the chicha morada was refreshing without being overwhelming sweet. Nat was accommodating, attentive, and wearing a unique set of blue balloon dog earrings. This is a great place to have date night if you want chill vibes.

Found this spot on Convoy for a sit-down lunch with a coworker. We noticed how many reviews they had so it got our attention! The dining area is beautifully decorated and has comfortable vibes. They have an outdoor patio too. As a vegetarian, I was happy to see tofu as an option! I ordered the garlic noodles with tofu. Grilled veggies come with it and the veggies were not chopped up, so it seems it's meant to be eaten separately. The tofu was tasty with the garlic noodles. The yucca fries with mojo sauce was also delicious! The chicha morada drink is a purple corn drink and was delicious. **comes free if you leave a review. Hence, it got our attention because of their Yelp ranking. This spot is great to be able to try Peruvian food. It was tasty, service was good, and the ambiance is nice.

This is our second visit to this restaurant and I'm so glad that they are added to the resy list so I can use my Amex quarterly credit. Wifey and I both like their unique Peruvian flavor and cute interior. The only thing that might want to improve is the service. They are really understaffed, only two servers to handle 10+ tables during the rush hours.

The vibes in this restaurant is chill and cozy. I've been here a few times and I have loved every single dish that they have served. I miss the wontons and the fries. Service here is friendly and welcoming. I don't come here very often but it's a cute restaurant for when I am craving for something unique and different.

I always eyed this place every time I would drive through Convoy and glad that I finally got to visit. Cute llama light display near the entrance. The staff is very friendly, and the food has good flavor with decent portion sizes as well. For some reason that was probably a fluke, the paella we ordered ended up being really salty in a way that was close to inedible despite being really flavorful and full of ingredients. The staff was understanding and was able to remake the dish so that it was less salty and was tasty after that! Came back a second time and had Leyna and Bella as our servers - they were super nice and attentive! The food was all really tasty and came out really fast. Their drinks are really good too, especially recommend the chicha morada that had a strong cinnamon flavor. I will say that I think the portion sizes got smaller since my las visit but taste is just as good. Would come back!

Emily was such a great server! 10/10 friendliness So I would say that this place is worth coming to for the Chica Morada alone!! I had no idea that they had traditional drinks that would include EARL GREY. Basically.. I'm obsessed. This was my first time having Lomo Saltado, and it's such a unique fusion of Asian flavors (like soy sauce in the sauce), and Latin flavors (expertly grilled meat). I ate so much that I had to be rolled out, and still had room for a box. Also on the note about ambiance, all of the plants, music, and decor make you feel like you've been transported to a vacation destination.

Tried this hidden gem in convoy and it didn't disappoint! Came in around 6 pm on a Thursday and plenty of seating. The decor was really cute and tropical. There is free parking in the lot for 90 min as well. We ordered the first thing on the menu (I forget what it's called) and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! So much flavor and it comes on a bed of fried potato wedges or fries. The garlic noodles were good nothing crazy. I feel however VERY gassy towards the end of the meal maybe bc of the garlic. But worth it! Service was fast as well.

First off, there is free parking available, just circle around the building until you see a garage entrance for retail parking. Two hours for free! Let me first explain the aesthetics of this place. Clean and modern with mid century feel accented with greenery throughout. Please note that they won't seat you until most of your party is present. We came here for Happy Hour which was from 4-6pm from Tuesday to Sunday! This is fantastic that HH includes the weekend!!!! To start, got a wellness shot which had a meld of juices and ginger. A great drink to ready your palate. For cocktails, I tried the Suika Spritz, which was refreshing! The Absolutely Pho-nomenal definitely tasted like cold Pho broth but spiked. It wasn't my favorite drink, but glad I tried it nonetheless. Of course we ordered the $1 oysters, and ordered all three - Baja, Pacific Northwest, & East Coast. It came with some Asian fusion sauces to dress our oysters. My fave was the Baja as these were the freshest! All three were smooth and non briny. On the HH menu we also tried - Bulgogi Birria Vampiro - Tender meat with bulgogi seasoned beef on top of a tostada. Really liked the meld of the two cultures in this dish. Duck Liver Mousse - Comes with rustic bread & crème fraiche. Very duck forward. I liked this because it was rich with flavor. Stone Crab Taco - Loved the nod to Loganisa in this taco! This was by far, my favorite protein dish on the HH menu!!!! Regular Menu - Mango Nasturium Kimchi Salad - I absolutely loved this vibrant and fresh dish!!!! I had to go back for second and thirds! Shishito Peppers with Bonito Flakes - This was definitely a fun and flavorful dish with lots of umami. Dessert - Hotteok and Vanilla Ice Cream - this was my favorite dessert! The pancakes were flaky and delicious!! Bonbunja Tiramisu - Beware! This has a strong coffee taste. It reminded of the strength and flavor profile of a Vietnamese coffee. I can't believe it's not cheesecake - Definitely a mix of a brûlée but with a cheesecake flavor. Confusing but works lol. We met the executive chef, Kyler, who explained and served some of dishes we ordered. The entire staff was so accommodating and even reminded us if we needed our parking validated! Our water never ran empty and our dishes were promptly taken away as we finished. Definitely a place to visit during HH since they offer amazing food and cocktail choices.

At first, we had "real" reasons to come for the buffet--family visiting from Hawaii, straight A's, passing observations with flying colors. But now? We'll find any excuse to go. Cleaned the room? Let's go. Improved one grade? Let's go. Can't think of where to eat? Kusina it is! Pricing: * Adults: $25 * Kids (10 & under): $13 * 3 and under: Free There is a 90 minute time limit which we have been reminded on our last few visits. It also includes self-serve drinks like coffee and tea. One of the best parts is that it's not always the same menu--another reason we keep going back (honestly, every Sunday if we could!). Some of my favorite items: * Bangus Fried seasoned Milk fish * Ube pancakes with house-made ube butter THIS is a must-have every time! * Arroz caldo Super comforting, reminds me of my mom's cooking whenever it rained, when I was sick, or slightly got cold in Hawaii. * Lumpia Both Shanghai and vegetable are so good! * Lechon Kawali Fried pork * Sinagang My kids favorite item. Filipino soup known for its distinct sour and savory flavor, typically made with a tamarind-based broth, and different meats. Kare-Kare My husband favorite! This luckily has been here every time we come. * Champorado My lola made this. Champorado is a sweet, thick Filipino chocolate rice porridge made from sticky rice and chocolate. It's topped with milk. It's served hot which I prefer. We've also dined here from their regular menu, which includes Filipino food, Hawaiian local dishes, and sushi. Parking: There share a lot with other business. When we come at night during the weekdays we don't have to worry. Sunday's during brunch other businesses are closed so its not too bad. Overall, my family and I absolutely love the Sunday brunch buffet. If you're looking for a place to celebrate... or just need an excuse to treat yourself, this is the place.

It's in a plaza with a ton of other restaurants, so just know parking can be a little chaotic. I went on a Wednesday around 5:30PM and still found parking pretty easily, but I can see it getting rough later. The place itself is on the smaller side, but they fit a good amount of seating. Every time I pass by it never looks super packed and even this time it wasn't that busy. I ordered ahead through their website, which was smooth, but when I walked in the cashier didn't see my order at first. I showed her my confirmation text, she checked with the kitchen and let me know it was still being prepared. She was super kind about it, so no issue there. I sat and waited and it ended up being around 20 minutes, which felt a little long for just two items, but not terrible. There was also a moment where a group came in and no one was at the front, so they asked me how ordering worked. We both just assumed you scan the QR code at the table and order from there, which probably explains why there isn't always someone upfront. A little confusing at first, but it is what it is. Once my food was ready, it was packaged really nicely. I had about a 25 minute drive home and everything stayed warm, which is honestly the best part about good takeout. Popcorn Chicken ($9.50) This might be the best popcorn chicken I've had in San Diego, especially for the price. You get big pieces, like actual chicken, not just fried coating. The seasoning is kind of addicting, a little sweet, a little salty, savory, with a slight kick. Super fragrant too with green onions mixed in. The sauce tasted like a cilantro jalapeño crema, almost taco vibes, which sounds random but it worked really well. And the shredded cabbage at the bottom soaking up all that extra seasoning... so good. Only thing is I wish some pieces were a little crispier and more golden, but still really really solid. Spicy Shrimp Wontons (8 pcs, $10.80) These come in a soy, vinegar, chili oil sauce that's super balanced. The wontons themselves are a bit smaller and don't have a ton of filling, so price-wise it's a little eh. But the sauce carries. After sitting in it during my drive home, I thought it would be too salty, but it actually soaked in perfectly. The color got darker and richer and the flavor still stayed balanced. Overall, this place is honestly solid. The menu isn't huge, more focused on noodles, dumplings, and apps, but based on what I had, they do it well. I'll definitely be back to try more, but that popcorn chicken alone is already enough reason to come back.

The hostess had a note for our anniversary celebration. They also printed a little celebatory note directly on the menu - a great personal touch. Our server was friendly and answered any questions we had. We ordered the beef tartare, smoked aged duck, and the deep fried sand bass. For the drink we ordered the Seasame Soirée. While our food came out pretty slow, I'd say it was worth the wait. We also enjoyed 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly while we waited as part of our anniversary celebration. The restarant itself is decorated beautifully with a jazzy ambiance. The interior had bits of gold and green with a beautiful pearlescent leafy wallpaper. The bar is located in the center and also doubles as a centerpiece to the restuarant. Restrooms are located in the back - there we many private, clean and spacious rooms. Below is a summary of the food we ordered: Beef Tartare (5/5) - Savory, sweet and spicy beef tartare dressed in fish sauce and thai chilis. Paired alongside fresh herbs like cilantro, shiso, argula and radicchio. The sesame rice crackers were light and airy. Smoked Dry Aged Duck (5/5) - Perfectly cooked, sweet and salty aged smoked duck paired with rice noodles, herbs and 2 different sauces. I appreciated the many ways you can wrap and enjoy the duck. I do wish the slices of duck were either smaller or thinner - it's hard to eat in one bite. Whole Fried Sand Bass (4/5) - I'll always order a whole firied fish wherever I go and this was no expection. I loved the sweet & sour ginger sauce. The fish was a bit over-fried in my personal opinion, but the inside is still very soft and tender. Sweet & Sour Rice Noodles (5/5) - Aboslutely delicious! Slippery and cold rice noodles dressed in fish sauce and other seasonings. It's not overpowering at all and goes great with the Whole Fried fish as well. Seasame Soiree Cocktail (5/5) - A very unique drink made with gin, ginger, coconut, seasame seeds and more. It was very fragrant in the best way. The flavor really develops after the first sip. I love how nutty and decadent yet light this drink is. Overall, I had a great experience here and this is one of the top restaurants I've had the pleasure of enjoying in SD. Highly reccomend especially if you like Vietnamese food / fish-sauce forward dishes. (At least for the dishes I ordered)

Being nearly eight months pregnant, my expectations were especially high, and it is rare to find a place that meets them so well. From the seasoning of the food to the warm and attentive service, everything about this restaurant stands out. Although I don't recall my server's name, he was incredibly kind and provided excellent service throughout. The ambiance is also worth noting--the space is large, offers plenty of seating options, and even features a large TV, making it a great spot to relax or watch sports. To start, I ordered a watered mango juice along with a beef empanada. The empanada exceeded my expectations--despite being on the smaller side, it was packed with flavor. I enjoyed it so much that I ordered five more to go, which speaks for itself. They were served with fresh ají, a traditional sauce that complemented them perfectly. For my main course, I had the carne asada plate, which included steak, rice, beans, sweet plantains, avocado, tomato slices, and a small arepa. Every component of the dish was well-executed--the beans were flavorful, the meat was well-seasoned, and the overall plate felt authentic. It is often difficult to find truly authentic Colombian food, especially in San Diego, where options are limited or not genuinely Colombian. This restaurant, however, delivers on authenticity and flavor. The portion size was generous, and I ended up taking leftovers home to enjoy later. In addition to the empanadas (two chicken and three beef), I also ordered a buñuelo and a cheese arepa to go. Unfortunately, these items did not meet the same standard. The arepa lacked flavor and was overly greasy, and the buñuelo was dry and similarly oily, even after absorbing excess grease from the bag. Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for Colombian food, especially given how rare it is to find quality options in this area. Friends of mine visited recently as well and thoroughly enjoyed their bandeja paisa, further confirming the consistency of the food. I will definitely be returning--especially for those empanadas.
