Cheche Morada the homemade purple corn drink

Been on the hunt for a Pan de Chicharron similar to what I had in Lima last month. Stopped here today but they didn't have it on offer today. I heard theirs is really good to so I guess I'll have to come back when they have it. We tried 3 dishes and all were good. The ceviche de Pescado was a nice size serving. Just wish they served it with a side of chips to cut the tartness. This was some of the most tart ceviche I've ever had. It was good and fresh but some type of chips or plantain chip would go nicely. Lomo Saltado was tasty however the beef was just a tad tough. Seemed to be the most popular choice this afternoon as everyone we saw had ordered it. The highlight was the suggested Seco con Frijoles. This is a braised beef rib in a cilantro stew with carrots and peas with beans. Meat was tender. Beans and sauce was soooop good! The house made Chiche Morada was BOMB!! So refreshing and tasty. This offering has a little bit more cinnamon than some of the ones I had throughout Peru but I thought this one was the best! Do yourself a favor and get the pitcher!! Yum!!! Overall I highly recommend stopping in and sharing a couple dishes for a little taste of Lima!

Finally got to experience eli's and i am so glad that i did. I'm a huge fan of Qero in Encinitas but it's just too far to drive up there from la mesa often and they do not have pollo a la brasa. Eli's is close to home and gives me all the delicious peruvian food I am craving. Our server was awesome. She even offered to let us try the different sauces and the white wine before committing. We ordered the 1/2 pollo with a side of sarza criolla and the beef stew with beans. Everything was delicious!! The chicken came with a side salad with a tasty dressing on the side. The chicken was so moist and flavorful with the sauces on it. Do I prefer my fries crispier? yes. but these were so yummy when dipped in the sauce. The sarza criolla was the best I have had in San diego. The beef stew was delicious and the portion was quite generous Eli's is a cute restaurant with reasonable prices, wonderful food abs awesome service. Be aware that there are no outdoor tables. Will we be back? You bet!!

    That's my snack.

This place is a hidden gem. Like, seriously hidden. It's in city heights and parking is best from a side street. I passed it up, but turned around and found parking. The food is very vibey and indigenous. The taste is very authentic and flavorful. I love the spices and sauces. I would lean towards beef but the ceviche fish was spectacular. I brought the wife and she thoroughly enjoyed everything. You gotta try the original arroz con Leche. So bomb! Wife said it was the best she's ever had. The service was amazing and the waitress was very attentive. I love how the restaurant looks like a little house.

Went to eat here after SDSU graduation The menu left out some of our favorite Peruvian dishes, brought it to the attention of the server. Service was a little slow but welcomed. Overall, the food was just OK. Ask for the traditional little breads that come with the dish that was in up charge, but was corrected when brought to the attention of two pieces of bread costing three dollars..

Five years ago, I discovered at least proving kitchen on El Cajon Blvd. I was so so happy to see that not only did this Restaurant survive. It looks like it has thrived over the years. And in my long quest for Peruvian food anywhere in San Diego Diego I was so happy to revisit this place. I was lucky enough to travel to Peru last October so I've been really craving some more Peruvian food. I had Arroz Chaufa with shrimp! Delicious my son had Pollo à la Brasa, which I couldn't stop picking off his plate! And we also shared a Lomo Saltado, which was done to perfection. The menu is a little limited, but you get the basics that you would want in a Peruvian restaurant. I wish they were open more often but you get what you can get parking may be lacking so be aware you might have to park around the corner! If you're looking for Peruvian food, make sure you check out their website for times and availability. The staff was very friendly and made the experience that much more fun. And let's not forget the ice cream Lucuma is a an acquired taste, but it's delicious. As we left, I forgot to take my leftovers and our waitress chased us down the street to make sure we had food for later, which was very thoughtful . So if you're craving proving food look no further than Ellie's Peruvian kitchen !

Hubby has been searching for a Peruvian restaurant in San Diego that serves the best Lomo Saltado, and I think he may have just found it! Located in the College area right on El Cajon Blvd, parking is a tricky situation as there is no designated parking lot. We circled around 5 times, but finally, just when I was about to tell the hubby to abort the mission, we found a parking spot on a street nearby. The building itself is pretty old and intimidating, but once inside, we were greeted and welcomed so warmly. It was like walking into your grandma's house, and everyone is waiting for you to arrive to eat. It was bright, clean and decorated with all things Peru - including alpacas. Our waitress was super friendly and made us feel so welcome - she exuded some great energy! Actually, everyone there, including the customers, all seemed to be in an awesome mood. Now let me get to the food! We ordered hubby's Lomo Saltado (Beef, onions, tomatoes, aji and fries with white rice), and I had the Pollo Estilo a La Brasa (1/4 Peruvian rotisserie chicken served with a side of house salad and fries, but I substituted the fries with white rice), my son ordered the Arroz Chaufa Shrimp (Peruvian style fried rice). We also tried their fried snack appetizer platter, which came with fried calamari, shrimp, yucca, fries and a trio of their sauces. Hubby and son finished their plates and decided they would definitely come back. I, on the other hand, could not finish because the chicken did not seem like a quarter piece, but more like a half a chicken! I am not complaining! The sauces they provided were flavorful with a nice kick to it. The green sauce was muy caliente! We did not leave without trying a couple desserts that our waitress recommended - the Helado de Lucuma ( ice cream made with an Andean Peruvian fruit) and the Clasico, which is Mazamorra and arroz con leche. I looked up Mazamorra and found that it is a Peruvian purple corn pudding. I was surprised that it was served piping hot! A must try! Now the Helado de Lucuma was DELICIOUS and CREAMY! I don't think I have ever tasted anything like it. Highly recommended! Please come and try this place. I honestly sat down and just felt that the people here are extremely proud of their dishes, they are super friendly, welcoming and attentive. You feel like their food is made with love. Many families were here on this day, and some celebrating special occasions, so I felt like this place was super special.

I haven't seen too many places that serve Peruvian food and was excited to try Eli's Peruvian Kitchen. Cherry soda was sweet and had a nice cherry flavor. Tallarin saltado had noodles with a mild flavor and a nice snap.  Beef was plentiful and delicious.  I added shrimp and it had a nice snap and fresh flavor.  Loved the flavor of the fresh tomatoes.  Among the best tallarin saltado dishes I've had. Passion fruit juice was sweet and full of fresh fruit flavor. Lomo Saltado featured fries with a tasty fried potato flavor.  Rice was soft and had a mild flavor.  Loved the brown sauce which gave the rice a delicious flavor.  Beef was nice marinated and tender.  Fresh tomatoes were tasty and went well with the beef.  Great tasting lomo saltado! 3rd visit I tried the pollo a la brasa.  Skin was crispy and full of flavors from the spices rubbed on.  Chicken was tender and juicy.  One of my favorite rotisserie chickens.  Fries were crispy and I liked the fried potato flavor.  Rice was moist and had a nice mild flavor. Server was very nice and remembered me each subsequent visit.  Excellent hospitality.

OMG!! I am so thankful that my husband found this hole in the wall place! Inside everything was decked out in Peruvian decor and it felt I was in somebody's house, which made it cozy and hospitable. The staff was very nice; the waitress made sure we were well taken care of and she was super sweet to us. We started off with the Peruvian sampler, which was a nice especially since I was very hungry. The ceviche was very tasty and I loved the fried yuccas. The main dish that I ordered was the seco frijoles- it was so so delicious and I left my plate dry; it was so worth coming here because of this very scrumptious dish. It was my favorite item that I ordered here at Eli's. The third dessert was the Helado De Lucuma; it was so unique and it tasted like butterscotch. What my husband and I thought was fascinating is that it is made from a fruit called Lucuma. This was the best dessert to end our delicious meal at Eli's. Overall Eli's Peruvian Kitchen did not disappoint and we will definitely be coming back!

Stopped in here for lunch and the service was friendly and food was delicious. It's a nice neighborhood spot. I tried the sampler platter and everything on it was great to try. The ceviche is definitely a winner. The Peruvian lager beer is perfect with the sampler.

Amazing authentic Peruvian food! Our waitress was very sweet and friendly. Do yourself a favor and try the ceviche! You will not regret it!

    Lomo Soltado

First time trying lomo soltado and I can positively say that this will not my last lomo soltado that I'll have!! I love the soft tender fries, however the beef was a bit dry and tough. Sauce was flavorful though. We also got the Peruvian sampler, which has fried yucas and ceviche - they were amazing! Our waitress was very friendly and served our food quickly. The food was a bit overpriced but would highly recommend if you're interested in trying Peruvian food!

    Ceviche

The food and service was amazingggg!! I got the seco con frijoles and ceviche which were 10/10. I definitely will be coming back!

I have driven through rougher parts of this neighborhood, however this plaza was well kept, and I felt safe during my visit. The inside had bare bones decor with folding chairs and tables for seating. Menu sheets were available in several spots. One side featured breakfast, drinks, and desserts. The other side listed the soups and entrees (beef, chicken, seafood). Although I could not find it on the menu, the man said Lomo Saltado was available which I ordered. I also selected a Causa Rellenade Pollo as an appetizer and a second entree, Aji de Gallina. The couple went to the kitchen to prepare my food while I waited. The promotional photos looked much more polished than what I received in styrofoam takeout containers. The Causa Rellenade Pollo had the most authentic appearance of my items. It was a layered mini casserole folded into a triangular shape. The top and bottom consisted of yellow potato with white chicken meat in the middle. The Lomo Saltado contained white rice on one side and then a stir fry of marinated strips of sirloin with onions, tomatoes, and french fries along the top. The flavor lacked the strong vinegar and soy sauce I have tasted in this dish at other restaurants. The Aji de Gallina was a stew made by sautéing red onion, garlic, and ají amarillo together. Shredded poached chicken meat was then added. The combination was then thickened with cheese or milk. Half of a hard boiled egg garnished the top. This entree had the best taste of the trio because there was a good balance of tartness and savoriness. When it came time to paying my check, the cost was slightly higher than what was posted on the menu. I didn't want to dispute the charges as I felt bad because the owners seemed to be struggling for more patronage. With the mixed experience I had with the food I sampled, I gave a 3.5 star rating for Chimpum Callao Peruvian Restaurant.

AMBIANCE Parking: Liberty Station parking--pretty manageable but can get busy during peak hours. Seating: Shared seating throughout the public market, so it might take a minute to find a table. Vibes: Welcome to Liberty Station! A festive area pretty much throughout the week. Whether its a place to eat, partaking in a event, or just hanging out - this is your spot. The area itself is a lively food hall energy with. It's not a sit-down restaurant vibe, but more of a grab-your-food-and-find-a-seat kind of experience. A lot of options around, but this spot holds its own with bold Peruvian flavors. FOOD / DRINKS Pesto (Tallarinines Verde) Chicken (Recommend) Solid dish. Rich portion - huge piece of chicken and good amount of pasta mixed well with that herb-forward pesto sauce (Tallarinines Verde) - with a more creamy + umami-forward than your usual pesto It's a bit of a fusion take compared to traditional Peruvian dishes, but still flavorful and satisfying. Good portion and definitely filling. Chicha Morada (Recommend) Refreshing and smooth. Slightly sweet with those subtle spice notes (like cinnamon/clove vibes), which makes it a perfect balance to the savory food. A classic Peruvian drink and a must-try if it's your first time. SERVICE Quick and efficient--typical of a market-style setup. You order, grab your food, and go. TL;DR OVERALL 4 Stars. Good selections, delicious food, and steady vibes. Good spot for casual Peruvian food while exploring Liberty Station. It leans more quick-service + accessible rather than a full sit-down experience, but the flavors still come through. The chicha morada is a must, and the pesto chicken is a solid pick if you want something filling. Best wishes to Chefs - Fredy, Tony, and the rest of the Latin Chef team! Happily went to do my taxes knowing this place was near and I could finally get this sandwich again. Trust. It's not JUST a sandwich, the bread is fresh! Airy and crunchy and great on its own. The chicken in the US just is not good, but these ladies cooked it and shredded it and added Peruvian Mayo (which is better) and yummy tiny crispy potatoes (fries) and it's just oh so good. My husband's cousin makes these sandwiches in Peru and his was best I'd tasted but his bread isnt made in house, and his restaurant is alllllll the way in Peru. Peruvian Spot is right here!!!! Yay! Sad they aren't open on Mondays but every one needs a time off, so understandably. Bummer all the Peruvian restaurants choose Mondays to take off. Anyways seriously I'll come here JUST for the chicken sandwich. Kids got Salchipapas and enjoyed them. Hubby got lomo saltado on tallarines verdes. Not a lot of lomo salado but I tried it and the pasta was yummy on its own. The steak was prepared nicely. Hubby adding a few fries from kids Salchipapas and that made the dish take off. Meaning it was even better. Usually when one gets lomo salado with pasta then fries are omitted so that's normal but trust, ask for a side order of fries and add them. Takes it up a level. Their ice cream is great but they were out. Well makes sense cause it's really delectable. Try it when they have more. Passion fruit drink was yummy. I get the heathy drink, I think it's the barley one. Soooo goooood. I wish I got more for the price, but it's like coffee cup amount. I still get it each time cause it's very tasty. Price point is painful. That's kinda how it is everywhere unfortunately. I noticed menu prices were different on the bill once I got home. Not sure the reasoning. Like a dollar each item. Prices are high everywhere, so if you are gonna pay, get quality items. For me the chicken sandwich is so worth it. Can't do it often, I live far away so that helps with the temptation lol. But yay finished taxes, that's a hurdle so let's celebrate with my craving. Oh and the restaurant is so clean! White n red for Peru! Fun Peruvian decor. Don't leave without popping into the bathroom, I don't take my phone inside bathrooms unless I'm alone, so sorry no photos. But they were intentionally fun in choosing their bathroom decor. Gotta be the BEST Peruvian bathroom easy! They definitely had fun designing their restaurant. And service... they take care of their restaurant and customers. Love the alfajores earrings! So fun!!!!!! Speaking of alfajores, my son got one. I tasted it, yummy. We lived in Acarí so there they make them huge and more flaky. I've yet to find those anywhere. But here they are made the more traditional way. The way I made them. They actually tasted like mine. And I'm picky lol and I approve. I especially like I didn't have to make them lol because it takes time and you gotta work fast when making a lot. I made over 100 for an event for free so I'm burned out. Nice to know where I can get them. Heads up, they are over $3 for one or $9 for 12. Didn't realize that price difference so go for the 12. These ladies seem to enjoy their restaurant and several repeat customers came in. Oh and they have a play area. My kids are older but this place is kid friendly! So bring the whole fam. Well until next Dr visit down this way, I guess I'll have to deal with my craving with patience. Oh as them to half your sandwich. They are huge. I forgot to ask and ate the whole thing lol. Well hubby had a few bites. But I was sooooo full. My own fault. lol. I usually have them half it so I have half then and the other for dinner. So full today I skipped dinner, seriously. So yes it's expensive but think of it as two meals.

Sevilla Valentine's Day Edition:…read more Pardon the delay, amigos! It's been a lengthy week! But I digress! You're here for the deets! Like every boyfriend who wants to show his adoration for his gorgeous girlfriend, I planned this event a few weeks ago. Commitment & dedication are key. Flamenco Show, 3 course dinner for two, AND dancing after?! Yeah, your amigo has it covered! This package is available on their website, and not only on Valentine's. But this day does make it more romantic! A minor 5-10 minute wait as we stepped out of our Uber to the front entrance of the club adjacent to the restaurant. Our lovely hostess greeted us & escorted us downstairs to pick our table. There were no specific table reservations, but all seats are good, as it's a small venue. The Love Gods smiled upon us and granted a table close to the front with an awesome view of the stage. Perfect table for the perfect date! Starters set the tone. What's this? A Welcome Charcuterie Platter?! It appears out of nowhere as our server takes our drink orders. The service here is impeccable! Impressive spread of cheesy, meaty goodness! The Shaved Jamón Serrano Ensalada Sevillana has a wonderfully zesty citrus vinaigrette that makes you clack your castanets! Ole!! Cocktails for the cute couple! A Oaxacan Flower for my Monterrey Mami! My gal loves her some mezcal! I opted for El Matador Margarita, because I know what I want...tequila! Plus the cucumber counts as healthy! I will die on this hill! The Main Course is the star of the show. And in full diva fashion, the Lobster Paella Valenciana stole the spotlight! A masterfully, monstrous mix of meat & seafood, all on top of some bomb-a** Saffron Bomba Rice! There's even a lobster tail in case you're still hungry! Queue the Flamenco show. The two dancers were elegant, the music was powerful, the singer sublime! Enjoy your dinner to a phenomenal 2 part show put on by very talented artists! We got to meet them after the show, as they personally thanked practically every guest! Elegant as their artform! Lest we forget the dessert! The Flourless Chocolate Cake was just the right amount of sweetness to cap off the dinner & show, as we shared our own sweet nothings. Love & Chocolate, a perfect combo, just like my beloved beauty & her humble narrator. As the performers were packing up & saying their final goodbyes, the staff was clearing the space for the last part of our adventure...dancing! A brief 15ish minute wait back outside & back inside we went! Got a great spot up front by the stage, but be aware the only sitting will be done by the VIP section. I believe it's bottle service only, but you can ask. We didn't, as we did not intend to sit at all! We boogied down, baby! The DJ did a great job keeping the vibe alive. Perfect ending to a perfect night. *Caveat - The dinner menu has other options & several a la carte items, if you so choose. Check their website for specific package info. You cannot go wrong. TL:DR - Never give up on love!

The space is small and intimate and I think it would be a nice place for a casual date! We were seated quickly and the server was really great throughout the whole meal and very knowledgeable about the food. I appreciated that he let us know about the specials without us needing to ask. We started off with some drinks. I got a red wine sangria and it was good but I did find it to taste a bit watered down but it wasn't a huge deal! We also got a carne empanada and the flavor was to die for. The beef and onion was so delicious and savory. It was juicy inside but the outside was crispy and dry not soggy at all. The portion size was fairly large as well. We also got the yuca frites. They were good. Crispy but still nice and starchy and filling. Not my favorite dish but only because of personal preference and not because they didn't do it well! Lastly we ended with the pork shank special they had for the night. It was absolutely amazing. The meat just fell off the bone and was so tender. I loved how the mushroom and spinach came with the pork. All of the different parts of the fish came together really well to made it exceptional. It was a hearty and comforting meal and I wish it were on their regular menu! I'm excited to come here again in the future to try more dishes.
