We had an amazing breakfast at Maggie's Cafe! Everything was fresh, delicious, and beautifully prepared. The strawberry and banana waffle with whipped cream was absolutely incredible, and the stuffed French toast was perfectly cooked. We really appreciated that they were happy to serve the filling on the side for us--it made the meal exactly the way we wanted it. A special thank you to our waitress, Wendy, who was so kind, welcoming, and attentive. She made us feel right at home and provided outstanding service with a smile. The fish and chips were apparently covered-up or blocked off on most of the menus (not mine, didn't know that until after I ordered) but regardless, they were slivers of chewy fish... not good at all. The nachos and carne asada fries appetizer portions were small for price. They were served on small round plates, maybe enough for 2 to share. Not worth it. Drinks were great, their happy hour has delicious house margaritas and cold beer. The atmosphere was fun. The place is decorated nicely, and there is enough seating inside and outside the restaurant for small to large groups. My wife and I had breakfast here after a long drive from out of town. We immediately got seated and handed a menu. A server came and asked us what drink we wanted , we said just water for now since we can't decide yet since my wife and i still very sleepy and tired and just want something to eat before going straight home. But this server kept suggesting getting something else to drink other than water and continued to offer my wife an alcoholic beverage and my wife said " NO " and that she doesn't drink any alcohol in the daytime and more at night time. But throughout we were seated there this Server kept coming back offering alcoholic beverages to my wife. My wife got so annoyed but luckily she was very tired at the time, so she didn't burst out at the annoying approach of this server and just ordered her cold Caramel drink, and finally this server left her alone in peace to eat her food. My wife had the Chile Relleno Omelette and I had the Meat Lover's Omelette, both came in big portions, but my Meat was way too salty, so I ended up not eating the meat part. Cajun Pasta is a favorite dish from our recommendation. Noted for consistency of flavor and portion size. We visited the restrooms. Both were clean with utilities stocked accordingly. The restaurant has projectors and multiple tvs featuring sporting events if you want to have updates. The ambiance is comfortable, not loud and well lit with daylight. Overall, food was of good quality, flavor, portion size and value. This exceeded our expectations. UPDATE: We are happy to inform you that we went back the next day with a party of seven. We were greeted and seated promptly after they turned two tables together. A two minute wait. The place was moderately busy. Wendy provided our table service. She was friendly quick and precise. Went here today 6/23/26 for a late breakfast, early lunch with my BFF! She got Machaca & Waffles! I had the chili rellano omelette and EVERYTHING was delicious ! The place was cute inside, very clean and inviting. Our service was excellent, our coffees came out first and then when our server brought us the meal we were in AWE! the portions were great (we both took home leftovers) the flavors of the chili rellano was perfect, the rice and beans were obviously homemade and very flavorful. Tortillas were soft and fresh. The waffle was huge and definitely homemade, crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, I love that they serve it with real butter not margarine! Wow, wow, wow!!! What a gem in plain sight! This place was on Yelp's top 10 places to eat breakfast and with good reason. From the steaming and frothy hot chocolate to the towering and mouth watering red chilaquiles this place has made my top 10 for breakfast. Stopped here for breakfast last week and really enjoyed the visit. This café has 2 locations: Serra Mesa and Barrio Logan. This Serra Mesa location is in a strip mall and there is ample parking in the private lot. We ordered: Carnitas Breakfast Skillet (carne asada, potatoes, eggs, salsa, freshly sliced avocado), and Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast. Ever since we found Maggie's when we would vacation in San Diego we have never been the same. This has been and will continue to be our all time favorite breakfast spot. This is what we look forward to more when we come out to San Diego. The environment is always so nice and clean. The staff is always spot on, so very friendly and extremely patient and helpful. Maggie's chilaquiles is always my go to with half red and half green sauce. They are made to perfection. I love that they still have a little crunch to them and don't taste watery. I'm not a bean person but the beans from there I love and enjoy how tasty they are. This is our second day back to back coming here since our vacation this week, that's how much we love Maggie's. During a recent review you may have noticed that I needed a new car battery while in Kearney Mesa. While I was there, I took the opportunity to look for nearby brunch places and wow did I score!! While it appears to have been in this location for awhile, everything was clean and nothing looked dated. The Strawberries, chocolate, whipped cream....ok I'm pretty much drooling now. Imagine how I was then. There was a lot of Mexican type breakfasts on the menu that kind of reminded me of Las Olas or Swamis, but this food was much better. I don't typically like savory for breakfast but I saw the breakfast quesadilla and danggggggg did that look good. Also, there was a burger with an egg on it. I've been wanting to try this place for a while and finally did. I visited with some lovely ladies. Our server was a lovely young woman, so helpful and sweet. The other meals ordered was this carnitas skillet and a meat lover omelette, 3.0/5. The meat lovers omelette was filling if you're wanting to get stuffed order that bad boy and maybe skip lunch that day. The egg to filling ratio was solid lots of ham bacon cheese! The show stopper was the carnitas skillet dish 4.0/5 Took one bite and dipped it into yo the salsa and I instantly regretted my chicken fried steak order which again was solid! It took a lot out of me to not dig deeper into the carnitas skillet. That good! They have amazing service very attentive, fast, and knowledgeable. They have some really cool happy hour specials. They also do a great job keeping it clean! Over all a solid 3.75/5 which is amazing. We chose to come here because of the ample free parking this place offers. There are a lot of other establishments here, but on the weekends this place is probably where most people are headed. All the portions here were huge. I got the Border Benedict which is an English muffin topped with a chorizo patty, avocado, two poached eggs and chipotle hollandaise sauce. It came with a side of fruit and potatoes. I ate only half of and saved the rest for later. It had a good variety for a brunch plate. We all shared a margarita flight which was fun to try. I'm not big on drinking for brunch, so this was perfect. Service was really fast, friendly, and very accommodating for my friends' child. My-go to dish has been their Country Fried Steak & Eggs which hits the spot every time. Love the flavor of the gravy and the steak is fried to perfection. The only thing is that their potatoes are very mid, like they are kind've soggy and there's too much onion, peppers the first time I got it. This time it was mostly potatoes so I was very happy.
