We were all able to sit on one table. I liked that their seating consists of bigger tables great for bigger families. Menu consisted of a good variety. Burritos, hamburgers, pancakes, fried fish. I ordered the Love Waffle. Came with 4 big slices and fresh strawberries and bananas with drizzle of chocolate syrup in top. We also ordered the fish and chips. My fiancé is a big eater and he ended satisfied. The kids grilled cheese was nicely tasted and the kids pancakes were brought out with a smiley face of strawberries just as ordered. My son's Eggs to order plate came with bacon or sausage. He ordered the sausage but didn't care for them too much. He felt he should have chosen the bacon. Sausage were bigger, perhaps they were more like dinner sausage. They were good just our personal preference. The Torta Cubana plate could have been shared it was so big. Had to smash it down to eat. Found Maggie's near our apartment while out doing errands and decided to give it a go for breakfast. It was delicious. We were planning to go elsewhere for breakfast but so glad that we ate here. I am a sucker for chilaquiles and mistakenly got beef the first time the kitchen quickly remade my order with chicken. They were so yummy and hit the spot so hard. Breakfast, well brunch, went just right with the margarita I ordered, too. I knew there was tequila in that drink. Can't knock a good pour! The service is always great. Ever since we found Maggie's when we would vacation in San Diego we have never been the same. This has been and will continue to be our all time favorite breakfast spot. This is what we look forward to more when we come out to San Diego. The environment is always so nice and clean. The staff is always spot on, so very friendly and extremely patient and helpful. Maggie's chilaquiles is always my go to with half red and half green sauce. They are made to perfection. I love that they still have a little crunch to them and don't taste watery. I'm not a bean person but the beans from there I love and enjoy how tasty they are. This is our second day back to back coming here since our vacation this week, that's how much we love Maggie's. Located in a strip mall Is this decently sized cafe/bar. Definitely has more of a bar vibe with neon lights and 7+ TVs on. About 9 beers on tap and a small bar area that seats 9. Came here for breakfast as I typed in cafe on my yelp search and this spot does play loose with the term cafe. Still gave it a shot with a standard country fried steak and eggs, pretty solid here gravy was better than average. Service is really laidback vibe. Stopped here for breakfast last week and really enjoyed the visit. This café has 2 locations: Serra Mesa and Barrio Logan. This Serra Mesa location is in a strip mall and there is ample parking in the private lot. We ordered: Carnitas Breakfast Skillet (carne asada, potatoes, eggs, salsa, freshly sliced avocado), and Chicken Fried Steak Breakfast. For dessert we shared the Churro Waffle which comes with a scoop of ice cream. We also had hot black tea with honey and chamomile hot tea. EVERYTHING WAS TASTY. During a recent review you may have noticed that I needed a new car battery while in Kearney Mesa. While I was there, I took the opportunity to look for nearby brunch places and wow did I score!! Maggie's Cafe is the kind of place you could drive by and never realize it if you weren't looking carefully. It's in a strip mall with a bunch smaller establishments. While it appears to have been in this location for awhile, everything was clean and nothing looked dated. There was a bar when we walked in along with several tvs. Our server was great and we had our food really quickly. You guys....i ordered the Love Waffle and it was like an explicit affair for 1. The Strawberries, chocolate, whipped cream....ok I'm pretty much drooling now. Imagine how I was then. There was a lot of Mexican type breakfasts on the menu that kind of reminded me of Las Olas or Swamis, but this food was much better. I don't typically like savory for breakfast but I saw the breakfast quesadilla and danggggggg did that look good. Also, there was a burger with an egg on it. I don't remember the name but *takes notes* was amazing looking and will be strongly considered for a future outing. Do yourself a favor and check out this place. The meat lovers omelette was filling if you're wanting to get stuffed order that bad boy and maybe skip lunch that day. The egg to filling ratio was solid lots of ham bacon cheese! The show stopper was the carnitas skillet dish 4.0/5 Took one bite and dipped it into yo the salsa and I instantly regretted my chicken fried steak order which again was solid! It took a lot out of me to not dig deeper into the carnitas skillet. That good! They have amazing service very attentive, fast, and knowledgeable. They have some really cool happy hour specials. All the portions here were huge. I got the Border Benedict which is an English muffin topped with a chorizo patty, avocado, two poached eggs and chipotle hollandaise sauce. It came with a side of fruit and potatoes. I ate only half of and saved the rest for later. It had a good variety for a brunch plate. We all shared a margarita flight which was fun to try. I'm not big on drinking for brunch, so this was perfect. Service was really fast, friendly, and very accommodating for my friends' child. My-go to dish has been their Country Fried Steak & Eggs which hits the spot every time. Love the flavor of the gravy and the steak is fried to perfection. The only thing is that their potatoes are very mid, like they are kind've soggy and there's too much onion, peppers the first time I got it. This time it was mostly potatoes so I was very happy. Getting seated was a pretty smooth process and they were nice enough to let us move to a different area because the window was too blinding in the spot we were put in. I've revisited numerous times over the past couple of years after my last review. The food has gone downhill unfortunately. Tried: Burgers - meat was dry and overcooked. Country fried steak - potatoes were good. Eggs were dry. Country fried steak was overcooked and gristly. When getting it to go, the plastic utensils often break, especially the knife, when trying to cut the steak. The price has also increased quite a bit and they no longer offer the Yelp discount.
