I think Freddy's Chophouse will now always hold a special place in my heart due to the circumstances of why we booked a reservation here. We were looking to make reservations for my father's birthday that was at a steakhouse that also offered seafood options as well, ideally lobster. Looking through Yelp I saw this place highly recommended in Gaslamp with fairly reasonable prices for what they offered. As probably many many places in Gaslamp and downtown in general, the parking sucks. We were able to park in a nearby parking garage that was about a few blocks from Freddy's. Inside is quite open and roomy, and during the time we went it was practically empty which was great for us. The ambiance of the interior was really great and looked posh. Our server was pretty attentive at taking our order and checking in with us to make sure everything was okay. We ordered a large selection of food to celebrate my father's birthday and even got a birthday dessert as well. All of the food was great and tasted amazing, steak was soft, and the lobster was buttery. We even got to come home with quite a few leftovers. The biggest thing of all, besides the food and the location was the memory we made while we were here. This was for my dad's last birthday in June before he passed three months later. He absolutely loved his Tomahawk and Lobster Tail. It brings me happiness to see his smile and be able to celebrate him for his birthday, even if it was unknowingly for the last time. Food can be many things and be whatever you make of it, good or bad, but I believe the most important aspect of any restaurant is the impact it leaves upon you and the memories you will carry with you forever and enjoying all the little moments you get to spend with your family for however much time you have with them; make sure to always cherish it.
Food - chop house so steaks, burgers, salads, and other American food items. And yes, they do Happy Hour. Had the $10 HH food, sliders, Buratta, shrimp skewers, pork belly toast, house wine. All were good and good value too! The pork belly was a bit too rich. All in all, this place is good and service is good! The place reminds me of Bugsy, Frank Sinatra or Olsen day Las Vegas. Mancave style.
Celebrating my daughter's bday tonight at Freddy's. So glad our original plans fell through and they were able to accommodate us because it was a great way to end our night, and our trip to San Diego. The restaurant was packed, played great music, and served great food! We were greeted by our server Justin who was great. Super friendly and informative about the menu. We ended up ordering a few appetizers including the chophouse bread, the burrata cheese, and the coconut shrimp. All were delicious and we ate up every bite! For our entree's we ordered the skirt steak with a side of sautéed mushrooms, the linguine with chicken, and the filet mignon with a side of jalapeño mac n' cheese. Everything was delicious. I will warn, if you're not a fan of spicy (which I am) the mac had a great kick. If spicy isn't your thing maybe hold off but if you don't mind it, it really is so good! Paired with a Salmo (spicy mango margarita) the meal was perfect. Next time I'm in San Diego, I will definitely be back!
We were spending a day at the SD Zoo when we decided it was too hot to be outside. We checked out Yelp for lunch ideas when we saw Freddy's Chophouse in the Gaslamp neighborhood. We didn't have a reservation, but thankfully they were not busy. We were quickly seated and waters were brought out with the menus. Our waiter was very friendly and informative about the menu items. We ordered the 14 oz ribeye and the bone-in 14 oz pork chop. Our meal came with a side. We opted to pay extra for the wedge salad. The wedge salad was excellent! My pork chop was good. The ribeye was ok. It needed a sauce like chimichurri or garlic butter. Overall, this is a great place to meet up with friends and family. Prices are competitive. My neighboring table said their bacon burger was tasty and the onion rings were good. The restaurant is clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly. The menu has a wide variety of price points to make it affordable. Clean bathroom is a bonus! Street parking can be tricky! We will be back to try other menu items!
I've seen all the social media posts about this place but never been here. While walking around downtown I finally stumbled upon this place and got a seat at the bar. It was still early but the bar was already packed. Even though it was early they have a happy hour going. I ordered the buffalo strips that come with fries along with a bourbon strawberry mule cocktail. The cocktail was $10! The drink was amazing and very refreshing. I work ordered a angel envy bourbon shot that was on special as well which was $7. The buffalo strips were ok and decent size wish they had more crunch to them and heat but for $10 it wasn't bad. Fries were ok I give them a 7/10. One pet peeve are places that don't offer blue cheese but only ranch. I had to suffer with ranch on my strips lol. I did place a take out order for sliders with onion rings. Wow three sliders were amazing and the onion rings were much better than the fries! The bartenders were great and very friendly and the place sorta reminded me of Whiskey House and a great date place as it's kinda dark as well. Adrianna and Tommy were amazing and I would not hesitate to come back here!
Went for a birthday! The lightening didn't do the meal justice! We had a ribeye with lobster tail. Mashed potatoes and some green beans. Absolutely incredible. Service was fantastic. I believe her name was Sydney. She was sweet and definitely works hard to keep her tables happy. The only thing I would do different was turn up the lights! I wish I took better pictures of the food! We had cheesecake for the birthday boy and that was also delectable!
This place was amazing! The service was awesome from the hostess to the bartender everyone was incredibly nice and helpful, I arrived just in time for happy hour to start while we waited for a concert at petco park. We ordered a mandarin cosmo called hey cutie and a Guinness, we also ordered the pork belly mushroom toast, the jalapeno Mac & cheese, the buffalo strips & the coconut shrimp everything tasted delicious but the absolute best was tha pork belly mushroom toast the flavors were outstanding! The drinks were so good I decided to order a couple more and they were also absolutely perfect the strawberry mule was so refreshing and yummy and the espresso martini was the perfect end to my meal! I will be back to try more on the menu
Literally some of the best food I've had in a long time! I absolutely loved everything--no complaints at all. The food was amazing and came out quickly, and the drinks were just as good. Was at the SDCC and found that Freddy's was one of the only restaurants that didn't have a long line of people. I think the many visitors were looking for Mexican food instead of a good steak. Well, it is their loss. The pictures don't do it justice as this was a great, dimly lit restaurant with great service and food. Ambiance 10/10 Service 10/10 Food 9/10 Bathrooms 10/10 Value 9/10 Will I Return? Yes
Street, metered parking with some lots nearby. Make a reservation or expect to wait awhile for a table. They have table and bar seating inside, and tables outside as well. It took a bit to get water. Luckily we were ready to order as we only ended up seeing our waiter twice during our visit. Food came out fast. Tried: Skirt steak and baked potato $26 - skirt steak was cooked perfectly and tasted great. Baked potato was bad. It was lukewarm and tasted old. Do not get the baked potato. Buffalo chicken and fries $16 - chicken was overcooked. Buffalo sauce was good. Fries and ranch were excellent. Some of the best ranch I've ever had. Listed under appetizers but it could be an entree too. Good portion. We were sitting for a long time after finishing before we finally saw our waiter again to flag them down for the check. I'd be willing to give them another chance if I am in the area again as the steak was good. Just go here for the steak, fries and ranch.
Freddys Chophouse was a restaurant that I have been wanting to visit for a while now. It is located in downtown San Diego so I hate trying to find parking. I finally visited the restaurant last Saturday for lunch and was definitely worth it. It a beautiful place and the service was excellent. The food was amazing and I will definitely be back.
Alex was phenomenal! He offered advice for drinks and food and did not disappoint. Anytime we needed anything, he was on it and happy to help. The food, service, everything all together was perfect. The outdoor seating had a wonderful ambiance as well as the indoor seating. Would come back just for the service!!
Came here for dinner as a walk in. My party got sat quickly which was nice considering we didn't have a reservation. The ambiance is pretty chic inside but also a mix of casual. You could dress either way but more people were dressed nicer. Our server was really funny and entertaining. We ordered a few salads, drinks and our entrees. I ordered the linguini with shrimp. I am glad I added the shrimp because that was the highlight of the dish. Next time id order it without the sundried tomatoes since I didn't like the flavor and it was pretty strong. I liked the bread it came with. It was a big portion too. My party did not prefer the seasoning on the steaks since it was primarily pepper. Our server was nice to give us a dessert on the house. Parking will be a monstrosity. Maybe a good spot for a birthday since they do sparklers.

I was looking for a steakhouse in the Gaslamp district and Freddy's popped up... i made the reservation and am so glad we tried it! The food and beverages were all exceptional, but the service is really why I'm writing this review.... We hit the jackpot! We were seated in Sydney's section and she is one of the best, most amazing servers I've ever had! She was attentive and engaging, entertaining and helpful. She was the perfect match for our table and we thoroughly enjoyed our time with her. Freddy's is lucky to have a server like Sydney on their team. We will definitely go back to Freddy's next time we are in SD & I'll be sure to call ahead to make our reservation on a night she is working! Thank you Sydney for being so great at your job & thank you Freddy's for a phenomenal meal. It was a dinner experience none of us will soon forget! Pro tip. Add the mushrooms. They were an unexpected star of the meal & complemented the tomahawk perfectly. read more

Food 5/5: pork ribs, filet mignon, ribeye were all really good. My husband said steak was better than water grill's $70 steak. Meat was all just melting in our mouth, great and balanced seasonings. Loved all! Also the coconut shrimp was good as well. Service 5/5: Our server was Jordan, loved her, and receptionist was Sarah, great recs from her! outstanding service, really made the experience much better. Funny, personable, great to our dogs, great and accurate recommendations, all in all really fantastic. Makes us wanna come back. Ambiance 5/5: cute and cozy place! Both outdoor and indoor. Came here without reservations and was immediately greeted by the host who was so sweet and got us a table quite quickly. She then explained the entire menu to us and told us her favorites. Our Server Jordan, was very knowledgeable and kind. We ended up going with the mint mojito, mezcal watermelon drink, shared the 14oz ribeye and baked potato, and they were kind enough to split our meal. It was more than enough for the two of us. We also split a Caesar salad, a little heavy on the dressing but still was delicious. We had no room for dessert. The ambience is natural vibes with some dark mood lighting, I like all the greenery and velvety curtains. Will come back. read more

We got an early dinner tonight to celebrate our anniversary. We saw that Freddy's Chophouse has a tomahawk steak and lobster surf and turf dinner. The restaurant was decorated with a lovely ambiance and Chris, our sever, was very nice and made our celebration dinner special. Freddy's also has some delicious sides to choose from and happy hour specials. We tried the garlic mashed potatoes, the jalapeno bacon Mac and cheese, and a beautiful chopped wedge salad with blue cheese balsamic vinegar and ranch dressing that they split for us. Alan, the owner came over to talk to us. Freddy's is a family owned restaurant named after his dad. This was such a great and memorable evening for us. I look forward to to returning sometime again. read more

I've been here multiple times, once for my birthday, twice with friends and again last night with another friend. Every time I come here I enjoy everything about my visit! The food is wonderful and the price point can't be beat! Their happy hour is wonderful with great food and drink options. We had a reservation at 5:30 and were promptly welcomed and seated with a smile. Our server was also wonderful and very friendly. My friend and I enjoyed our dinner and drinks before setting off to the civic theater for an after dinner show which was very walkable. Parking looked like it could be found on the street but there were also many lots near by so you can pick what works best for you. Great restaurant in downtown San Diego. We sat at the bar and they happened to have happy hour at the time. It felt like a mix of a sports bar with a classy bar. The bartender immediately served us and we got old fashioned. I think that was one of the better old fashioneds I had. The burrata was topped with pesto and sat on a salad with lettuce and tomato. Also came with some bread. The burrata was creamy and paired well with the pesto and balsamic on the tomatoes. read more
Stopped by Freddy's while at the FinOpsX. We had a large party (9 folks). We were greeted by the manager who I noticed was helping everyone out on his team in-between greeting guest. We had a wonder waitress (Gabby I believe) who talk exceptional care of us. Service was outstanding. And we haven't even talked food yet. We ordered a couple apps (burrata was killer) and they were consumed rapidly and the consensus was the same, incredible! We ordered steaks, pork chops, burgers and everything was out of this world. Personally, the pork chop (what I ate) was one of the best I've ever had. The carrots with goat cheese were a fantastic pairing. Any time I'm in San Diego, I'm going back. read more

This place came highly recommended by a friend, and it did not disappoint. We came during happy hour and started with the $10 espresso martinis and Old Fashioneds. Both were great and a solid value. There wasn't a kids menu, but the staff turned the buffalo chicken into plain chicken strips for my kid. He loved them, and I may have stolen a bite too. Crispy, juicy, and served with what tasted like homemade ranch. For dinner, we had the tomahawk and lobster with an upgraded side of lobster mac and cheese. Everything was rich, flavorful, and cooked well. They didn't have béarnaise sauce, but the horseradish sauce and butter paired perfectly with the steak. Service was friendly, pleasant, and attentive. The open air setting was also really comfortable. Even with today's weather, it stayed cool inside and never felt hot or stuffy. Great food, drinks, service, and atmosphere. We left full and very happy. Definitely a recommendation worth taking. read more
My mom was craving a filet during her visit and a quick search revealed Freddy's. We loved the menu and decided to go for it. It's in a prime downtown location with both indoor and outdoor seating. We sat outside and it was perfect in the late afternoon. Both the hostess and the server, Gabby, were phenomenal and ultra friendly, which made the experience all the better! We started with the buffalo tenders, and I got the house salad while my mom got her desired filet. Both were delicious. The buffalo tenders were decent but a little more greasy tasting. Some may like that, but I prefer the breaded type of batter than this one, still good though. Definitely planning to come back and try their fish options! read more

Great chop house off the beaten path in the Gaslamp District. Food was really good and the pricing is very reasonable. The steak was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The roasted carrots with cheese were awesome. Joe was our waiter, he was friendly and attentive. Parking is always an issue. Take Lyft if possible. Make a reservation, we went on a Monday night and they were packed. The atmosphere is old school steak house. We will return and recommend you give it a try. read more

Came here with a friend prior to a show in downtown. We had some apps and 2 drinks. All were amazing. I got the mini sliders and she ordered baked potatoes and wedges salad! All of it was devoured! Ambiance was great, service was amazing, and the food and drinks were perfect. We did go during happy hour so it was perfect place to have some dinner and drinks Will be bringing my husband for date night for sure! read more
We had been told Freddy's was the place to go for a solid steak and honestly it did not disappoint. The skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and French fries was absolutely phenomenal. I will say, the chimichurri is not traditional, but still great! The French fries might be some of the best I have ever had honestly. My husband got the BBQ burger and he said it was melt in your mouth fantastic! The mojito was so delicious and the old fashion hit just right. The only reason I am putting 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the service. We waited 10 minutes, with a reservation, for the host to acknowledge us. Our waiter was great but we would have liked to have been checked on a bit more. The restaurant itself is very pretty and the food is wonderful! We will be back! read more

We came here last year during comic con and decided to come back! Food is good though I feel like my ribeye was cooked a bit over medium rare. Their burrata was great! This will definitely be our yearly spot whenever we come to comic con! read more
Went on a lunch date with my friend who I haven't seen in a couple years and it was a great choice! Beautiful decor on the inside and a nice menu. I got steak and lobster, and we also shared coconut shrimp - both of which were super delicious! Good variety on the drink menu. Friendly staff and not too noisy inside. I went to Freddy's Chophouse yesterday with my family for my brother's birthday. Overall it was a good experience, but it wasn't fabulous or mind-boggling. Just above average and pretty good. Let's break everything down. First, the service was very good. The wait staff and the manager were very friendly and very attentive. The only slightly odd thing that happened was when my draft Pacifico was forgotten, but I did eventually get it. Next, the atmosphere is nice. It's a good mixture between a fine dining feel and a bar vibe. The decorations are slightly gaudy and Consortium-Holdings-adjacent, but it's coherent enough for me to not be mad at it. Now the most important part--the food. For me, the food was about 4/5 stars. This is kind of a discount steakhouse. They offer ribeye, flank steak, filet mignon, salmon, chicken, and lobster dishes. They also offer a lot of entree side options and premium sides, as well as salads. For me, the food quality was a little lower than I'd have liked. It's good, but it's not really *all that* or anything. My flank steak was cooked decently and to my liking, but my brother's steak was nearly medium-well when he'd asked for medium-rare. My brother's wife's chicken was slightly overcooked. But the flavors were there overall. Not bad quality food or terrible cook/presentation, but off enough for us to notice. Finally, the cocktails. My espresso martini was pretty good, and they have a nice selection of beers. However, my mother's mezcal-guava-hybrid cocktail was pretty weird. Somehow the sweetness of the drink didn't mask or mix with the smokiness of the mezcal at all. Instead it was as if you registered smokiness and super-sweetness simultaneously yet separately. I went here for Happy Hour with my friend & wow, they have one of the best Happy Hours in all of SD! They have strong, amazing cocktails for $10 during this time. My favorites were their GOGO & Swifty. Customer service was top notch the first time I came. She was incredibly friendly & gave great recs. I loved it so much I went again the following week. Came here on a Monday late afternoon for their happy hour. They had a lot of reservations coming in, but they gave us a nice spot outdoors in front. The food in descending order: Coconut Shrimp - saw another table order this and had to put in an order. Very crispy exterior, large pieces of shrimp (not the weird prepackaged butterflied ones), with a sweet and tangy sauce. Jalapeño Bacon Mac N Cheese - cheesy, but not overly cheesy. Got the jalapeño flavor without being very spicy. Kids were able to eat it. Pork Belly Toast - mushroom, porky, herby sauce over toast. It's a bit hard to eat, but really tasty. Summer Salad - spring greens with tomatoes, sliced apples, candied pecans, mozzarella cheese, and dressed with a vinaigrette and balsamic glaze. A nice complement to the other dishes Popcorn Shrimp - shrimp had a nice light batter. Fries were great (crispy outside, fluffy interior). Served with ketchup and a standard sweet chili sauce. Mini Sliders - 3 mini burgers. Flavor was good, but the burgers were on the firmer side. Not dry, but a tad more cooked than we like it. Fries were great. Freddy's Chophouse is a vibe, and not your typical steakhouse. I was not expecting high-end just based off the prices. The space is cozy and inviting. We started off with the bread, which was delicious. Buttered, salted and drizzled w hot honey. For drinks, I had the espresso martini which was a solid 9/10 and my friend had a margarita! . Cocktails were strong and well-made, which always earns bonus points. We both had steaks. The steaks were good (not mind-blowing, but solid). The vibe is definitely a highlight it's lively, trendy, and great for a night out. read more
