Ribeye Steak
Donald G.

Great chop house off the beaten path in the Gaslamp District. Food was really good and the pricing is very reasonable. The steak was cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The roasted carrots with cheese were awesome. Joe was our waiter, he was friendly and attentive. Parking is always an issue. Take Lyft if possible. Make a reservation, we went on a Monday night and they were packed. The atmosphere is old school steak house. We will return and recommend you give it a try.

Everything has slipped BIG TIME over the last couple of months. Service not as friendly. Food not as good. NOTICEABLE decline in every aspect of the establishment. Too bad. But perhaps predictable.

We had been told Freddy's was the place to go for a solid steak and honestly it did not disappoint. The skirt steak with chimichurri sauce and French fries was absolutely phenomenal. I will say, the chimichurri is not traditional, but still great! The French fries might be some of the best I have ever had honestly. My husband got the BBQ burger and he said it was melt in your mouth fantastic! The mojito was so delicious and the old fashion hit just right. The only reason I am putting 4 instead of 5 stars is because of the service. We waited 10 minutes, with a reservation, for the host to acknowledge us. Our waiter was great but we would have liked to have been checked on a bit more. The restaurant itself is very pretty and the food is wonderful! We will be back!

Sidney was awesome !! The food was SO GOOD! We had half pasta with chicken and a half lobster! Some of the best food I've had here!

This place is so good. The steak is to die for. The service was amazing. The interior is so gorgeous I give props to whoever designed it. It's a perfect spot for instagram pics. The drinks are very good and pinterest worthy. The ambiance is really nice, the place is super clean and it's great for a first date! The bruschetta id give a 7/10. The fried ice cream id give a 7/10. The steak id give a 7.8/10. The lobster mac n cheese lacked a little bit of flavor so id give it a 6.8/10! I am a very harsh critic so im sure all of this would've been fine for the normal person!

I went to Freddy's Chophouse yesterday with my family for my brother's birthday. Overall it was a good experience, but it wasn't fabulous or mind-boggling. Just above average and pretty good. Let's break everything down. First, the service was very good. The wait staff and the manager were very friendly and very attentive. The only slightly odd thing that happened was when my draft Pacifico was forgotten, but I did eventually get it. Next, the atmosphere is nice. It's a good mixture between a fine dining feel and a bar vibe. The decorations are slightly gaudy and Consortium-Holdings-adjacent, but it's coherent enough for me to not be mad at it. Now the most important part--the food. For me, the food was about 4/5 stars. This is kind of a discount steakhouse. They offer ribeye, flank steak, filet mignon, salmon, chicken, and lobster dishes. They also offer a lot of entree side options and premium sides, as well as salads. For me, the food quality was a little lower than I'd have liked. It's good, but it's not really *all that* or anything. My flank steak was cooked decently and to my liking, but my brother's steak was nearly medium-well when he'd asked for medium-rare. My brother's wife's chicken was slightly overcooked. But the flavors were there overall. Not bad quality food or terrible cook/presentation, but off enough for us to notice. Finally, the cocktails. My espresso martini was pretty good, and they have a nice selection of beers. However, my mother's mezcal-guava-hybrid cocktail was pretty weird. Somehow the sweetness of the drink didn't mask or mix with the smokiness of the mezcal at all. Instead it was as if you registered smokiness and super-sweetness simultaneously yet separately. Quite an odd drink I'd recommend avoiding. That's it! 4/5 on food, 5/5 on service, and 4/ on atmosphere.

Coconut Shrimp, Summer Salad

I went here for Happy Hour with my friend & wow, they have one of the best Happy Hours in all of SD! They have strong, amazing cocktails for $10 during this time. My favorites were their GOGO & Swifty. Customer service was top notch the first time I came. She was incredibly friendly & gave great recs. I loved it so much I went again the following week. However, I had a different server & he was a bit sassy & did not check in on us often. Coconut Shrimp: Generous amount of shrimp. Tasty! Summer Salad: Large portion & refreshing. Skirt Steak: A must order. Perfectly cooked, marinated & tender.

Came here on a Monday late afternoon for their happy hour. They had a lot of reservations coming in, but they gave us a nice spot outdoors in front. The food in descending order: Coconut Shrimp - saw another table order this and had to put in an order. Very crispy exterior, large pieces of shrimp (not the weird prepackaged butterflied ones), with a sweet and tangy sauce. Jalapeño Bacon Mac N Cheese - cheesy, but not overly cheesy. Got the jalapeño flavor without being very spicy. Kids were able to eat it. Pork Belly Toast - mushroom, porky, herby sauce over toast. It's a bit hard to eat, but really tasty. Summer Salad - spring greens with tomatoes, sliced apples, candied pecans, mozzarella cheese, and dressed with a vinaigrette and balsamic glaze. A nice complement to the other dishes Popcorn Shrimp - shrimp had a nice light batter. Fries were great (crispy outside, fluffy interior). Served with ketchup and a standard sweet chili sauce. Mini Sliders - 3 mini burgers. Flavor was good, but the burgers were on the firmer side. Not dry, but a tad more cooked than we like it. Fries were great. Their happy hour is fantastic and very reasonably priced. Shout out to our main server, Gabby! She is awesome. Props to all the servers who are filled with positive energy and are very attentive. Highly recommend!

What a great find and I can't believe I didn't find it sooner. Right in gaslamp by the convention center and never noticed it. Went for lunch on a Saturday and it was happy hour so bonus! Got to try some apps that we probably wouldn't have gotten. Service was great. Very helpful and attentive which I love even when it got busy. It's a small space but feels cozy and never felt like it got loud even when there were a lot of people. Only reason it didn't get a 5 star was that my medium rare ribeye was a bit overcooked. Which was disappointing for a steak place todo. Flavor was good just a bit chewy for a ribeye at $45. Everything else was great.

Freddy's Chophouse is a vibe, and not your typical steakhouse. I was not expecting high-end just based off the prices. The space is cozy and inviting. We started off with the bread, which was delicious. Buttered, salted and drizzled w hot honey. For drinks, I had the espresso martini which was a solid 9/10 and my friend had a margarita! . Cocktails were strong and well-made, which always earns bonus points. We both had steaks. The steaks were good (not mind-blowing, but solid). The vibe is definitely a highlight it's lively, trendy, and great for a night out.

Great happy hour in the Gas Lamp! Place looks very nice and would make an excellent date night spot. Came in for Happy Hour and it was in full swing. We ordered drinks and a few apps, food was good (standard HH stuff, burrata was nice tho) and drinks were also nice. But what made the visit was our waitress, Sydney. She was floating around the dining room with such ease and made every table feel tended to. She just had such a warm and happy spirit it was a pleasure to be in her section. The people next to us were talking about it before we even mentioned it, she was absolutely stellar. I hope her boss sees this and pays her more!

I had such a great experience at Freddy's Chophouse in downtown San Diego. From the beginning, the customer service was beyond amazing. I received both a text and a phone call to confirm my reservation, which I honestly appreciated because I have a busy schedule and reminders help a lot. Our reservation was for 4:30 PM, but our table was actually ready by 3:30, so we could have come earlier if we wanted. Our server was incredible. We asked for recommendations and he walked us through the best drinks and food options during happy hour. We ended up trusting his suggestions and ordered what he recommended, and I'm glad we did. I had a party of six, but only two of us arrived early while the rest of the group came later. The restaurant had another reservation scheduled for our table at 6:30, but instead of rushing us out or cutting our time short, they kindly moved us to another table so we could stay longer. That extra effort really stood out to me because I know most restaurants stick strictly to their policies. I truly appreciated them going the extra mile. Another sweet touch: we forgot birthday candles for our celebration, and the staff brought out sparklers that they normally use for their flights. It made the moment feel special and thoughtful. Now for the food, the 10 oz skirt steak was incredible. It literally melted in my mouth. If I could make one suggestion, pairing it with a bit of blue cheese crumbles would be a chef's kiss because the steak was that good. Several people in our group ordered it and we all agreed it was delicious. The coconut shrimp was also amazing, especially with the sauce. The pork belly toast with pesto and mushrooms was another standout really flavorful. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the mashed potatoes. I'm picky with mashed potatoes, so I'd rate them about a 5/10. They could use a little more work, but everything else was great. Overall, the atmosphere is beautiful and it's a really nice steakhouse. I was pleasantly surprised and I'm glad I chose this place. I'll definitely be back to try more items on the menu maybe next time with a smaller group so I don't have to wait on everyone! Highly recommend checking this place out.

Skirt Steak, and upgraded the side as a signature (got lobster mac n cheese). Had the steak medium well.

Super delicious. Every bite I had between both the mac and steak was amazing. I do not regret it. Everything was good and the ambiance. I want to thank you to both Alan and Bobby for making this happen for my friends and i. On may 2nd is when we visited the establishment. And we chose to celebrate here for my best friend's bachelor party. I am the best man to his wedding in june. Service was pretty great! Samantha was wonderful, super attentive, and just there for us. Bobby you really did us with the table you gave us. Also, lookin' good with the color green haha. We had a grand time. Thank you so much Alan, Bobby, Samantha, and Staff. Thank you Fredy's Chophouse.

I knew it was a speakeasy but he did not. I was trying to double-check on my phone that Craft & Commerce was the right restaurant its housed in (yes) when he tried to jet set off down the block "to keep looking" rather than listen to me. I yelled, "MOTHER!" by accident and then he did truly leave me hahaha. He resurfaced a few minutes later, and then we walked in. It was 5:15 at the time, so 15 minutes after opening. I had NO IDEA how popular this spot was, nor anything about its nation-wide reputation. I actually didn't know that until two days ago when a Yelp-friend at home here in Richmond, Virginia, exclaimed excitedly when I told her we stopped in. The host who greeted us was kind, informed us there had been a line to get in that day, but that they had one barrel left; we jumped on it of course. It was happy hour, so the first cocktail I ordered was dirt cheap at $9. It was the Imperial Hawaiian with gin, rum, lemon, pineapple, and orgeat. I really shouldn't have ordered a second drink after that one, but I did have the classic Saturn later on in the night and it was absurdly good! Definitely my favorite of the two. The moody tiki vibe was so cool and fun. They even had frogs you could play on the tables. We had some fun neighbors too, which livened up the experience even more. We had a great time and both walked out heavily buzzed. We were asleep by 8 that night, but it was worth it!

Once inside seating is first come first served so the place is insanely crowded with people trying to get drinks. Service is a little confusing as the waiters will come up to you with a menu asking for your order instead of an order at the bar type of thing. Once we actually got a seat things were okay. The menu is mostly rum drinks since this is a rum bar however since I'm not the biggest fan I ordered the only thing with tequila on the menu. My drink was actually really good, it was refreshing, not too sweet or strong at all. I just wish there would be more variety.
