We stopped in for lunch. The restaurant was 1/8 full but we did not get any service, not even water, for about 15 minutes. The food looked beautiful but had very little to no flavor. The Sashimi was served warmer than it should have been. Very disappointing after reading good reviews on Open Table. So many excellent restaurants in Gas Lamp this one is very pricey and below average.

Tried the happy hour at AKA and was genuinely impressed by the food--everything came out really good! The environment and overall vibe are solid, too. It feels like they get a bit overshadowed and overlooked simply because of all the surrounding bars drawing the crowds, but they deserve way more attention than they're getting. Highly recommend giving them a shot if you're in the area!

Such a fun spot to dine in and vibe to great music! Love the intimate atmosphere AKA offers and our Waiter, Cru was amazing. Loved the cocktail menu options and of course approved of their espresso martini. The potstickers were one of the best I've ever had- literally melt in your mouth! I also enjoyed my sushi roll as well. The dessert was so delicious we ordered creme brûlée and ended up with a free dessert/celebration which was so fun, as we were celebrating my friend's b-day! Would definitely recommend a visit!

    Rock shrimp. Very good.

The experience was okay. The restaurant is gorgeous. Beautifully decorated. I was seated immediately but despite telling the hostess I was there for happy hour I did not receive the menu. I had to wait almost 10 minutes before a server brought it. I ordered the rock shrimp which was amazing and the waygu grilled wontons, which were a massive disappointment. The rock shrimp happy hour item came with over 10 very tasty rock shrimp. The wontons came with a whoppping 3. They were overcooked and fell apart, despite this they had ZERO crunch. Almost no flavor at all. I would come back for the shrimp but not the service or the wontons.

What a fun club!! You can hear the music from the street, which instantly pulled us in. It was even more surprising when we found out there was no cover charge, say what?! Once inside, the place was impressive. The vibe is super Instagram-worthy, and the atmosphere was all about having a great time. The music was poppin' all night. I would definitely come back! From what I've read in other reviews, it looks like they also offer dinner here, which makes me even more curious to return. Drinks are reasonable so over all great first time here!

We were staying in the gaslamp area were looking for a fun spot to eat. I'm glad I chose this spot for a Friday night. It was so lively, beautifully and aesthetically decorated, and fun! It definitely was a place to go for celebrations because there were a few tables that got attention with lights and drinks which was pretty fun to watch. They have music going on in the background which adds to the vibe. The lighting is great. As soon as you walk in you see a lit up statue. Every so often a drummer comes out and drums to the beat of the music, which is pretty fun to be a part of. Our server was great and attentive. She was very helpful with answering any questions we had. We ordered the salmon skin salad, which was a unique flavorful taste. The saltiness from the salmon complemented the salad. Order two sushi rolls, which I can't remember what they were But they were both really good. I also ordered PadThai... It was definitely plenty for two people. So we ended up taking left over Pad Thai, which we normally don't. I will say it was amazing the next day too! We ordered two Sopporos and 2 sake to make sake bombs. I'd recommend doing 1 sake, and two Sopporos next time. Overall, we had a great experience, great service, great food, and great nights. I will definitely go again.

Food: 4 Service: 5 Ambiance: 5 We happened to stumble upon AKA Restaurant in on a fairly quiet weeknight. We didn't have reservations but were seated promptly, which was a great start to the evening. What first caught our eye was the super creative décor. There's a large statue in the middle of the room that really makes a statement, and inside the red, dark lighting gives the space a really cool, moody vibe. It feels a little sultry and dramatic, but still lively and fun at the same time. We were seated quickly and helped quickly. We ordered several items to share: the lamb chops, mango yellowtail sushi, salmon skin salad, and the lobster garlic noodles. For drinks, we tried an ube cocktail (forgot the name) and the lychee martini. The cocktails came out aesthetically beautiful and were also delicious and refreshing. We really enjoyed them. The food arrived pretty fast and not only looked gorgeous, but tasted just as good. I especially loved the lobster garlic noodles and the lamb chops. Both were super flavorful and satisfying. The mango yellowtail sushi was good, but not my favorite of the night. The true star of the show was the salmon skin salad. The salmon skin was fried perfectly, light, crispy, and absolutely delicious. It was honestly the best salmon skin salad I've ever had. Overall, the ambiance is really neat. It's dark and moody, but still has an energetic vibe. I highly recommend this spot for a date night, a girls' night out, or just a fun evening downtown. The service was excellent, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was on point. I'd love to come back later in the evening when it transitions more into a club/lounge vibe. It looks like it would be such a good time. Highly recommend for good food, good vibes, good service, and an overall great night out.

So we were visiting San Diego for Halloween weekend, and for our last night, we decided to go to the Gaslamp and grab a bite to eat. I chose AKA because it was open late. Honestly, this restaurant, which transforms into a nice lounge later on in the night, exceeded my expectations. We were seated immediately in this nice booth-type chair, which was very comfortable. The ambiance was really nice, and we were near the bar, where we could watch the World Series. Gaslamp was busy that night; honestly, I didn't realize it was still the day after Halloween. Anyways, we were seated right away and were given the menu immediately. These were the items we ordered: Lychee Drink (5/5): Not the actual name, but the drink was extremely well-made. A-5 Pandan (5/5): Another amazing whiskey drink. Appetizer: Singapore Tempura Rock Shrimp (5/5): By far the best rock shrimp appetizer I have ever had. It had some sweetness, but not overpowering. Seared Wagyu (5/5): Another amazing wagyu appetizer. Made really well, with a perfect texture. The sauce that came with it was very tasty as well. Main Entree: Both of these sushi rolls were amazing and were well-made. Is it pricey, yes, but I think the quality of their food was really good. Tempura Roll Mango Yellowtail After we finished our meal, we were waiting for our server to come back, but since it took him too long, we asked one of the ladies who worked there if we could order a drink, which she took. Unfortunately, the drink was forgotten, and we had to flag down our actual server to check on it, and we even had to explain to him that we ordered it from the female floor manager, I'm assuming. I decided to go down a star because of our server. After all our food was served, he didn't really check up on us anymore until I flagged him down to check for another drink and get our bill so we could pay for it. I understand they were transitioning to their night/club atmosphere, but you need to be able to balance that. You can't ignore your current guest due to a transition. Unfortunately, we decided not to stay longer since people started coming in to dance, but then there were females who were drunk dancing on top of a table. They eventually kicked them out, but when people get sloppy like that, it's usually my cue to leave the place. Overall, the food and drinks here are really good, and yes, it can be pricey, but I do think it was well worth it. The restaurant has an amazing ambiance and cool decor.

San Diego's coastline sparkles with culinary gems for daytime dining, but when it comes to nightlife, Gaslamp Quarter seizes the spotlight. You won't need window seating either because the interior is the vibe. AKA San Diego sits prominently on the corner of Fifth Ave and Market St where an Italian restaurant used to be. Through glass panes, passersby can glimpse at the prismatic lighting and vivid decor. With same day reservations, we were seated by the tall Buddha statue, curiously situated behind a DJ setup, peaceful but ready to party. We'd find out later that the beat's turned up for birthdays which numbered 2 that night. DJ and waitstaff made each celebration lively and fun. As impressive as the backdrop is, the focus remains the menu, an array of Asian fusion dishes that blend flavors with remarkable success. The succulent Yakiniku Filet Beef Satays, the creative Grilled Baja Jumbo Prawns with risotto cake, and the mouthwatering Bluefin Tuna Wasabi are just a few highlights. Many visitors flock to SD for surf and sun, but the city doesn't go dark when nighttime comes. Contrarily, this is when downtown hits the on switch, and AKA is one of the many glowing lights you can follow to find phenomenal dining with unrivaled ambiance.

Food: Bluefin Tuna Wasabi Roll - spicy kick from wasabi but not overpowering. really tasty and flavorful! fav roll! Pork Belly Bao Buns - soft, cutely displayed, fluffy bun, kind of dry pork belly but overall flavorful, and has pickled veggies Mango Yellowtail Roll - saucy, citrusy, peppery but well combined flavors Service: Very kind service and everything went smoothly! We made a reservation day of and had no problems. Ambiance: Dim lit and very decorated restaurant with nice restaurant vibes. There's also a little bar seating area. Lots of tables and seats.

Ordered amazing lavish food. Toro truffle, mango yellow tail roll. They both are amazing. Dumplings are delicious too. Must try . I tried cream cheese and veggie ones. Pad Thai, egg fried rice and orange chicken have really good flavours, quite different. Everything was unique and scrumptious.

I came here with a group of girls to celebrate a birthday. We had reservations & were seated about 2 minutes upon arrival. The server told us it was a busy night & drink orders may be a bit backed up. I appreciate it when servers give us a heads up so we're not left wondering why the drinks are taking so long. Crab Fried Rice: I normally avoid fried rice dishes because they're usually so basic, but I think this was actually everyone's favorite dish. I was surprised by how flavorful it was. I would definitely order this again! Lobster Garlic Noodles: This was actually not as flavorful as I had hoped, but it wasn't terrible. The lobster was delicious & I loved how they cut it up in small pieces for you. The noodles were what lacked that garlic & butter flavor, but nothing an extra pinch of salt can't fix. Bluefin Tuna Poke Bites: This was a great little bite. However, for the price we all wished there was a bit more poke on the cracker. Hokkaido Scallop Sashimi: This was really good, another great small bite. It tasted fresh & had a little citrus tang to it. Grilled Lollipop Lamb Chops: The lamb was very tender & easy to bite off the bone. Packed with flavor & cooked to perfection. I would order this dish again. Surf n Turf Roll: The surf n turf was amazing. Get your phone out & be ready to record because it's fun to watch them torch the bone marrow as they drizzle the butter on the rolls. A real crowd pleaser for sure. Another dish I would love to order again! Our whole experience was fabulous. The server was attentive & made sure we had everything we needed. He was quick to clear off any finished plates & brought our birthday girl her dessert. They have the coolest entrance to the restroom that is very IG worthy. The bathroom was gorgeous inside & well kept. Thank you for an amazing experience, I can't wait to return!

If fruity drinks are not your jam... what are you doing in a Tiki Bar!! No really, they have great options for on the rocks or straight as well as ordering your favorite cocktail or beer. They have a ton of options, all sorts of alcohol bases depending on what your vice is, they also have non-alcoholic drinks for those so inclined. Hard to pass on a Mai Tai or a Zombie to start your evening off. lately I have been enjoying the Eastern Sour which is their take on a whiskey sour. Just to recap: Don't get mad if you have to wait and did not make a reservation. While they have lots of options, most drinks and all specialties are Tiki Drinks. Tiki drinks can be strong, mind yourself. If a place like this is not your vibe, that is fine, head back into Craft & Commerce, make room for others who are waiting to get in, just have fun!

Parking is a nightmare good luck finding parking within a mile of the restaurant. Pros: atmosphere, drinks, service Cons: food wasn't great for the price, restaurant was small and crowded, no parking Service: All of our servers were friendly and very accommodating. Gave us some knowledge on the menu and recommended cocktails based on our preference. I had spilled my drink and they were quick to make me another one. Food: I had intended to get the prime ribeye cap steak but they ran out for the night around 8pm. I shared the steak sampler which came with four different cuts of steak and 4 sauces. I ordered medium and it was cooked medium/medium rare which was fine with me, it also had a good sear, almost burnt though. Out of the four steaks, we only liked two based off flavor and tenderness. The other two were more tough and gamey. None of the sauces really stood out but the bordelaise and horseradish were good. For our sides we got fries, roasted broccoli, and the grilled wedge salad. Fries were average. The roasted broccoli had really good flavor, I expected the broccoli to be al dente but it was cooked to mush and drenched in sauce. The grilled wedge salad was decent, there was a slightly bitter taste to it. I know it says grilled wedge but the experience of biting into the salad and it being both hot and cold was not pleasant. Cocktails: I tried the Honey Ryder and New Wave. These were recommended as the more fruity/sweet cocktails. You can definitely taste the alcohol but it's only 2oz so it's not too strong. Ambience: 10/10 I got seated downstairs by the bar. Only thing about downstairs is that it's too dark to take photos unless you use flash. Overall, I agree with the other reviews saying to go just for drinks and appetizers. I would go again just to sit upstairs and get drinks and take pictures. If you're not a regular, be careful, because apparently all it takes is one drunk friend of the staff making up a story to get you kicked out. While visiting San Diego with friends, we came here after hearing so many great things. There was a short wait, which was fine. The four of us were seated at a small standing table, also fine. Behind us were two guys drinking at the standing bar. One of them bumped into my friend and then stroked her arm while apologizing. She was visibly uncomfortable, so I told her to switch places with me. The guy immediately said, "We're gay, so you don't have to worry," then turned to his friend and said, "Now he looks so stupid and embarrassing." I told him, "I don't think it's embarrassing to make sure your friends are comfortable," then turned back around. I didn't argue with him, insult him, or continue the conversation. I thought that was the end of it. A few minutes later, the manager came over and told us we had made comments that made other patrons uncomfortable and asked us to leave. We had already paid for our drinks and were still waiting for them. My friend followed the manager to ask what was going on, and I joined shortly after. The person complaining was, of course, the same guy who had bumped into her. He was clearly drunk and started rambling about how we had made homophobic comments toward him and his friend. This was especially ridiculous considering the friend I switched places with was there with her girlfriend. We calmly explained exactly what happened. The manager did not care. There was no real attempt to hear our side, ask questions, or figure out what actually happened. The decision had clearly already been made. While we were speaking to the manager, the guy who complained was cheerfully talking with one of the bartenders, receiving a to-go meal, and greeting them cheek to cheek. He very obviously appeared to know the staff. So that seems to be how things work here: a drunk regular or friend of the staff can make up whatever story he wants, and management will throw out an entire group of paying customers without even pretending to investigate. They refunded the drinks, which was the bare minimum. The ambience was nice, but that means absolutely nothing when the staff handles customers this poorly. Awful management, blatant favoritism, and easily the worst service I have ever experienced. I would never come back, and I would strongly warn anyone who isn't already friends with the staff to stay away.

You must ask at the Bakery counter to be let in. HINT: look for the handicap button on the wall. Just push it and the door opens. You will be met by staff immediately inside and seated. Its a small interior with not so intimate seating. The lighting is on the brighter side. Service is superior!! The food is great and the drinks were mostly hit and some misses. But they will remake you a new drink if you let them know. Surprisingly the food was outstanding. The plates are large! We had Chicken Karaage which was cooked perfectly and the sticky sauce was delicious. The Nagoya Karaage Nagoya Style Fried Chicken, Sesame Seeds, White Pepper, Cabbage. The glaze was sweet and delicious! OG Haccho Chicken Sliders were more like full size sandwiches - Miso Glazed Crispy Chicken, Sumono Pickles, Sesame Coleslaw, w Yuzu Togarashi Mayo, on a soft Brioche Bun. The Ronin Fries were so good. All the flavors went well together. Shogoyaki Pork Belly, Mozzarella Cheese, Bang Bang Sauce, Green Onion, and Furikake Seasoning. The Umi No Maboroshi Oysters were a disappointment. Only 2 oysters at this price point is pricey! It was weird- the Edible Tuile Shell, Caviar, Yuzu Caviar, Sancho Oil, Wakame, Micro Greens on top were just too much. The flavors did not show while eating. Too many flavors made the oyster unnoticeable! Next the Drinks!! The White Lover!!! Hands down the best drink we tried. All three of us agreed!!! Its topped w a Sherbet- ish frozen Yuzu ball. Eat it or add it to your drink to change the flavor a bit. Either way the best drink we had. The Tokyo Banana was next best!!! The Yama Matcha was good but lacked matcha flavor. Was a good drink but to me was not a matcha drink. The Sesame Old Fashioned had a slight sesame flavor. However I'd like more sesame myself. But a nice twist on an iconic drink. Overall our experience was 5 stars. Our server was great and she is the one who recommended White Lover. Sorry cant remember her name. But had sandy blonde hair and was on the taller side. She actually jumped behind the bar to make a custom drink for all of us! The shooters were outstanding!! Highly recommend this speakeasy for the Asian inspired drink and food!!

This one is long overdue--not that they need my review, because by now everyone already knows how amazing this place is. What keeps me coming back is the combination of great music, an energetic vibe, outstanding service, and some of the most creative cocktails you'll find anywhere. Tonight was girls' night out, so we decided to order the prettier, and sweeter cocktails. But don't let the sweet flavors fool you--they are definitely generous with the alcohol. These drinks may taste dangerously easy to sip, but they pack a punch! I don't even remember the names of the cocktails we ordered, but honestly, that doesn't matter because the menu changes so often. And that's one of the things I love most about Music Bar. Every visit brings something new, fresh, and exciting to try. Both of my drinks were absolutely delicious, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I honestly don't know how the bartenders come up with these combinations, but kudos to the team for constantly pushing their creativity while still making every cocktail incredibly well balanced. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, Music Bar never disappoints. I'll definitely keep coming back to see what new creations they come up with next. Cheers to one of my favorite cocktail spots in San Diego!

Speakers and vinyls line the walls. Vibes are more elevated here than at your usual bar. I ordered the Nickel Fortune, which came out with a fun tarot card. CMB's website states that "cocktail attire is celebrated."

Items such as scrupulously prepared meatballs, fried polenta, spaghetti with mushroom sauce, etc., from the prior next-door, connected purveyor "Soda and Swine"...but those days are done ...I digress. And where is Soda and Swine's Yelp page? I know I did a review, but now the page appears gone completely in search? Nah, it's just hidden, presumably to accommodate Fortunate Sons, which opened about a year ago after re-construction of both establishments. I'm too lazy to see if still owned by Consortium Group. I did search my reviews and found my updated Soda & Swine review dated 8 & 10 years ago. O_o !! Now, food is still served, however, there's a new name in town called "Fortunate Son" (next door, connected). Apparently, food now served is Asian-inspired. I've not visited recently to taste. The North Park area is a great neighborhood with many different types of food close by. Definitely make a reservation in advance through OpenTable because they fill up pretty quickly. There is also a deposit required, which you can lose if you no-show or cancel within 24 hours, but the deposit is refunded once you arrive for your reservation. When you arrive, a hostess greets you at the entrance. There's a small waiting area where you can sit until they come get you. Then there's a door where you press a button, and it opens to bring you into the restaurant/bar. Inside, there's a mix of tables and bar seating, and they serve food in addition to having an extensive cocktail menu. The drink menu was definitely the highlight for me. There were so many creative and unique cocktails that really stood out. I'm usually not a huge cocktail person because I don't like overly sweet drinks, and it can be surprisingly difficult to find cocktails that are both original and sophisticated enough to actually sip and enjoy. They definitely nailed that here. I tried several: *Kasato Maru: This was so smooth and absolutely delicious. By far my favorite. You could really pick up the St. Germain elderflower and pear, and the flavors worked beautifully together. Definitely one of my favorites. *Sunomono: This was more liquor-forward, but still incredibly smooth. Definitely a good choice if you want something that lets the spirits shine. *Je Ju: Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. It had a really unusual flavor that just didn't work with my palate, and my friend wasn't a fan either. I'm usually not one to send a drink back, but the staff was fantastic about it. They happily took it back and made me a completely different cocktail. *Softly Spoken: My friend ordered this one, and it came in a glass filled with small ice cubes. I tried it and thought it was really good, but it wasn't quite my personal preference. It definitely had more of a fruity flavor profile. The food looked absolutely amazing although we didn't eat here this time. There are still so many cocktails on the menu that I want to try so I'll definitely need to come back. The atmosphere is dimly lit, intimate, and full of character. It has that cool, moody feel that makes you want to sit back, sip a cocktail, and stay awhile. And the service was phenomenal from start to finish. Overall, this was such a fun experience. Great atmosphere, creative cocktails, excellent service, and plenty more on the menu I still want to try. I can't wait to come back!
