Roman Wolves completely exceeded my expectations. Every part of the meal was outstanding from start to finish. We started with the Mozzarella in Carrozza and the Pane di Casa, and both were phenomenal. The Mozzarella in Carrozza was crispy, cheesy, and absolutely addictive--comfort food done to perfection. The Pane di Casa was just as memorable and disappeared from the table embarrassingly fast. The highlight of the night was the Parmesan Wheel Special. Ours featured shrimp, broccoli, and a pink sauce, and it was absolutely incredible. Watching it be prepared tableside was an experience on its own, but the flavor was what truly impressed me. It was rich, perfectly balanced, and easily one of the most memorable pasta dishes I've had. We finished with the tiramisu, which was the perfect ending to an amazing meal. Light, flavorful, and beautifully executed. A huge thank you to our waiter, Jason, who made the experience even better. He was funny, kind, attentive, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. After spending several days eating amazing homemade pasta in Rome, we thought it would be interesting to see how this compares. The verdict: It's more like Roman-inspired cuisine. The food is solid, but nothing amazing. Where you will notice the difference is in the quality of the ingredients and the flavors. It's nice, but don't expect it to match what you ate in the Eternal City on your Roman holiday. The dishes are also quite pricey (ironically you can enjoy a much better meal in Rome for about 2/3 of the cost!) Then the bill comes - adding insult to injury. They add a mystery "IFL" charge to your bill of 4.9%. When asked they will tell you it's a mandatory city tax (which is not true). They also charged an extra $2 for one of our dishes. The waiter did take off the extra charge when I mentioned it and also removed the add-on item that was mis priced. This was appreciated. Overall: Its a nice place for a special occasion maybe, but the quality of the food doesn't justify the bill. The wait staff are attentive, but pay attention to your bill and don't be surprised when they tack on the 4.9% mystery charge. read more

Every single person provided exceptional service and made us feel so welcome. If you're lucky enough to have Luca as your server, you're in great hands! I originally ordered the gnocchi vodka pasta, but it just wasn't for me--it was much cheesier than I expected, and I personally prefer a creamier pasta. I was finally able to visit Roman wolves with a friend a couple weekends ago and boy was I impressed! I love the decor here! I've been here twice now- once for happy hour and for an event so far. For happy hour, we shared the calamari and pinsa caprese, and also got a few drinks. We were told about three specials, one of which was a cheese wheel pasta with grilled chicken, porcini mushrooms and black truffle sauce. Sounded great, so we ordered it. What showed up was pasta with what was basically fancy bacon in it. I don't eat pork, so that was a problem. Mistakes happen, I get it. What bugged me more was how it was handled. I mentioned it at the end of the meal to our second waiter (a different one had taken our order), and he just said "oh then it was "chicken""and kept saying the first waiter "goofed." Then he asked, with this fake concerned tone, if I was allergic. I said no, I just don't eat pork. That's when he did this little mock prayer-hands gesture at me, like a sarcastic "god forgive me" thing. It wasn't funny, it was just rude. All I wanted was someone to actually own the mistake, not make fun of me for being upset about it. We would've picked the other special that night, which was more expensive, if we'd known the first one had pork in it. Food-wise: lamb lollipops were good, lemoncello cake was good. Fiori di zucca was just oily. Cheese wheel thing is a gimmick, not really worth the hype. If you're in the area and looking for good food, Barra Oliba next to this place is way better. read more

Everything was absolutely delish! The Pappardelle Ragu di Roma featured wide ribbon pasta, ground beef, and Italian sausage ragu. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the sauce was to die for! While I'm usually a red sauce gal, the Spaghetti Carbonara might have converted me. It was honestly some of the best Carbonara I've ever had. It was rich and creamy, yet not overly so. Oh! We checked out Roman Wolves for Restaurant Week, they had a great menu with a good variety of options that we enjoyed. To start we got the Fritto Misto and Mozzarella in Carrozza. The highlight between those for me was the Mozzarella in Carrozza, it was a fun and taster twist on mozzarella sticks, I highly recommend. The Fritto Misto wasn't my favorite, so I personally would pass the next time we go, but it also may be a personal flavor preference. For our mains we had the Grilled Octopus and Spaghetti Carbonara. Again, the octopus wasn't my favorite based on the texture (I'm a big grilled octopus fan) but the flavors they went with were great and a nice twist. The start of the show was the Spaghetti Carbonara, it's the best I've had in the States and I highly recommend. The guanciale was thin and crispy, and the sauce was perfection. Finishing up we each had a slice of their Tiramisu and wow, it was delicious! Definitely a must if you saved room for dessert. read more

For pasta, Roman Wolves was a beautiful dinner party experience and very welcoming for our visiting friends. The hostess seated us in a nice, intimate booth of clamshell sofas and were patient when we took some time deciding (our group had staggered arrivals), and introduced the cheese wheel pasta and seafood special. The cheese wheel pasta is a good amount of food for sharing and during preparation here they bring the wheel to table side and you watch the Parmesan get torched and your pasta tossed. Seafood special was likewise just as hearty, the seafood not overcooked, and very tomato-rich. I enjoyed the Artichoke Ravioli- delicious, generously plated in pasta sauce. The pesto flavor they have is similar between the ravioli cream and the cheese wheel special. The texture of the shell is just right. So we made a reservation for inside but it ended up being a so nice we asked to sit outside. The hostess sat us in a breezeway at the world's smallest table. We asked to move to a 4 top in a 85% empty restaurant and she really was unnerved by it. She eventually allowed us to move. They brought lovely chips with toppings to start. Crispy and not too salty. We started with drinks. My friend got the Remus. It was bright and refreshing. 10/10. I got the Romantini. It was perfection. They both came with little inspiring messages. Next we ordered the lamb lollipops. They were served with a arugula salad. The temperature was a little more than I normally eat lamb, but still juicy and delicious. We ordered the carbonara. Delicious and eggy, exactly how a carbonara should be. For the main we ordered the barazino. It's a dramatic plating and served with a large amount of bright veggies. We did find 2 stray pin bones so be careful. We ended with the tiramisu. It was not the best. Dry and the cream was very heavy. They had put a lot of cocoa powder on the top that made it feel even drier. Service was really good. Attentive but not overwhelming. The table settings were beautiful in their simplicity. An incredible birthday dinner where I felt I was truly dining with the Romans, Roman Wolves deserves its hype! From the food, to the ambiance, to the service, everything was impeccable. They brought me a mini champagne flute for my birthday immediately once we were sat which was such a little treat. The cocktails were delicious if you like a sweet drink. The bread was herby and fresh with some fun and delicious dips to accompany it. The pasta were truly the star of the show though. Pillowy soft gnocchi with creamy vodka sauce had me loving every bite, and the incredibly rich and fresh parpadelle ragu had layers of flavor that were incredible. First time diner to Roman Wolves. I frequent others which are considered the top Italian Restaurants in SD. But, Ive heard the hype and figured it was time to give it a try. Greeted and quickly seated inside by a friendly staff member. First thing I noticed was its was very loud inside. The acoustics are not good. Voices travel and seem to amplify. We had a hard time hearing staff asking about water preference. The restaurant is small/quant with nice decor. We were quickly greeted by our server Ashlin. I noticed she bent down when speaking with us so we could hear each other. Ashlin was amazing all night and service was outstanding by all, but Ashlin was genuinely friendly and gave us drink advice which was spot on. We ordered a Remus (spicy) and it was a great drink. For appetizer we had Fiori Di Zucca - Stuffed Squash Blossoms which were nothing extraordinary but good. I dont recommend this at a price point of $21 for THREE small stuffed blossoms. The two entrees were Ravioli di Granchio (crab stuffed) and Salmone Al Mango. Both of these dishes were tasty but the Ravioli were thin w very little crab stuffing. And at the price point $32 for six ravioli is high. The Salmone was very well cooked and the Risotto was perfectly cooked and delicious. I would order this again. Be aware they add a 4.90% IFL charge to the total bill. I am not a fan of hidden costs and feel it should be added to the prices of the menu items. I understand its for the employees, just add it to the menu prices. If you want a quiet romantic Italian spot, I suggest you go elsewhere due to the noise level. You literally have to raise your voice to be heard across the table. But if want a place with great service with an electric atmosphere give Roman Wolves a shot. read more

So our Uber driver misunderstood which Italian restaurant we wanted and dropped us off at Roman Wolves so we decided to stay. Happiest of accidents. Our server Jason (with the ascot, lol), was seriously amazing. His recommendations were spot on for each of us and he was enormously entertaining. Everyone besides me opted for the chef's cheese wheel which turned out to be our party's favorite. I opted for the gnocchi with the pink vodka sauce and a mocktail Jason recommended which were fabulous as well. Appetizers were the truffle fries (amazing) with an order of calamari (equally good). Lastly we got a piece of the tiramisu, which was perfectly made and a nice end cap to the meal. Fiori di Zucca (squash blossoms) were stuffed with cheese, just like everywhere else around here, but these were on a pepper sauce that separates them from all the others. Yum! Polpette (ox meatballs) are great for meat lovers and anyone on Keto. Not as tender as beef meatballs at nearby restaurants, and didn't taste like ox, but at least it wasn't gamey. It's the one item I probably won't order again, but only because I'll want more room for pasta. Calamari was good but nothing to write home about. If you like calamari, order it. But it's really the cheese wheel pasta and pinsa that make this restaurant a destination. As for the ambiance, it's cozy, clean, and with quality decor -truly appreciate the heavy chairs that aren't easily tipped over. Our server Kyle was very nice and helpful. Unfortunately the food was just ok. We ordered the arugula salad and the artichoke appetizer to start. Both dishes were perfectly fine but definitely nothing to rave about. For our mains2 of us shared the cheese wheel, then we added the chicken and the mussels special. Again everything was five but nothing at all worth raving about. There are plenty of excellent italian restaurants in San Diego- think Piattis and buonapetito for two. This place is a solid 4.5 rating so rounding up to a 5-star. My husband and I enjoyed the place and would come back. That's saying a lot, because my Italian husband is incredibly picky about eating out at Italian restaurants. I did a search of the top restaurants in Little Italy. Roman Wolves popped up, and what really stood out to me was that they had cheese wheel pasta. I've always wanted to try it, which made Roman Wolves an immediate yes for me. I made dinner reservations for 8:30pm on a Saturday night. We were seated at a table by the kitchen. Felt cozy and intimate. Perfect setting for our date night. Service was great. Our food came out in a timely manner, and the wait staff members were cheery and friendly. We shared the oxtail meatballs, Caesar salad, and cheese wheel pasta: - Meatballs were OK. I thought that they were on the salty side. I liked the marinara, which was more tart than it was sweet. - Can't go wrong with the classic Caesar. Love when restaurants include whole slices of fresh anchovies, which I can't get enough of. - Do not let the "MP" (market price) on the cheese wheel pasta scare you away. It was $44 for the plate, but it was honestly worth it. Plus my husband and I split the meal and still took home leftovers. The pasta was the best thing we ate bar none. The rigatoni was nicely al dente, but that creamy cheese sauce was everything! Also the chicken breast slices in the pasta were so tender. Just overall a divine dish. read more

What a lovely experience at Roman Wolves! Took my family here on a Saturday and very glad we made reservations since they were turning away ppl who didn't have a res. Ordered the trio bruschetta, calamari, stuffed zucchini blossoms , gnocchi alla vodka, lasagna, artichoke ravioli, salmon, and drinks. My family loved the appetizers and their pasta dishes. I personally ordered the cheese wheel pasta. While it's a fun experience to see them mix it, it was a bit too creamy for me. Service was great too - we were able to sit in the patio with our pup.
