We had dinner here the other night (compliments of my sister as a birthday gift). Neither of us had been here before and we were excited to try out a new venue. One thing we learned: if you decide to make a reservation here, especially on a weekend night, arrive early to accommodate the time it takes to find parking. The restaurant does not have its own parking lot, it's street parking-only and space is tough to come by. We circled around for at least 15 minutes before securing a spot and wound up a little over 20 minutes late for our reservation. Thankfully, we still had a table set up and waiting for us. It was very busy when we walked in, it appeared as though the restaurant was near-capacity. The restaurant has a nice, rustic charm to it, but I'll admit some of the charm is taken away by the crowd of noisy people. The restaurant space is small with as many tables and chairs that can possibly fit, which inevitably means tables are very close to one another. It would help if the restaurant acquired a much larger space, or if it got rid of maybe 30% of the tables/chairs so that seating could be more spaced-out. Service was initially slow, but understandable considering the completely packed venue. Our servers were incredibly friendly and provided exceptional service. They were patient and informative in answering our questions (particularly about the "cheese wheel"). We ordered the house specialty bread with 3 different spreads as an appetizer, the lamb shank was my date's entree choice while I ordered the pappardelle pasta with short rib. The bread was truly excellent, we both devoured it. My dish was also excellent, the short rib was very rich and flavorful and the pasta was cooked well. I tasted my date's lamb dish, which I felt was bland compared to mine and I wasn't crazy about it. My date seemed to enjoy it, though. We were too full to order any dessert, so I can't speak for their desserts. The food I did try was mostly amazing. We will likely be back, although we might try coming on a Monday or Tuesday night to avoid the crowds and have an easier time with parking. read more

Mother's Day at Rusticucina was an unforgettable experience for our family of fifteen. Even though it was a busy holiday and reservations were hard to come by, we were fortunate to secure a 2pm seating -- and they had our table ready the moment we walked in. Service started immediately, and the staff handled our large group with ease. While the full menu wasn't available for the holiday, the reduced menu still included all of our favorites. The calamari was seasoned perfectly, and the marinara sauce was incredible. Our server recommended a bottle of Cafaggio Toscana Sangiovese, which paired beautifully with every dish at the table. The food was outstanding from start to finish. The tableside cheese‑wheel pasta was rich, creamy, and delicious, and the lemon cake for dessert was moist, bright, and full of flavor. Our server stayed attentive throughout the entire meal and even surprised the mothers in our group with lemon drops to end the celebration on a high note. I really wanted to like this place, but overall it was a disappointing experience. The biggest red flag for me was seeing the cheese wheel being stored right next to the bathroom, covered with just a napkin. That alone raised serious concerns about cleanliness and food handling. And the server would place the pan of rigatoni on the bottom uncovered Service was actually good -- the staff was nice and attentive, which I appreciated. Unfortunately, the food didn't match. The meatballs tasted like frozen, pre-made ones, and the sauce was very basic and bland. The garlic bread and marinara were honestly not good -- the bread had a strange, off taste. The lobster ravioli with shrimp was just okay, nothing special. The "special" cheese wheel rigatoni with sausage was the biggest letdown. It wasn't served hot, and the pasta was overcooked and mushy -- definitely not what you expect from a dish that's supposed to be a highlight. The wine also tasted very basic and underwhelming. The only thing I genuinely enjoyed was the spicy margarita -- that was actually really good. Unfortunately, between the food quality and the cleanliness concerns, I won't be returning. read more

First time visiting. We started with the Burrata Caprese. It was light and refreshing, although I would have preferred more pesto and balsamic glaze. For the mains, we had the Pappardelle Al Brasato and Carbonara. Both dishes were good but not "wow." The pappardelle al brasato had a light beef flavor with a touch of some type of truffle seasoning (no mushrooms in the dish). The sauce had a description of "truffle cream sauce." The sauce wasn't creamy at all. I thought the sauce could have been a bit richer. Again, both dishes were still enjoyable. The cannoli was your average cannoli. Service was amazing! Very attentive and friendly. I loved the atmosphere - it had an elevated rustic farmhouse aesthetic. Overall, I still had a great time! I would def try a pizza if I ever return. **3.5 stars** It's an adorable Italian restaurant that justtt missed the mark for me. While everything we ordered was rather good, it just wasn't what I was expecting. I got the Mediterranea to start followed by the Paccheri Salsa Alla Vodka. The Mediterranea salad was one of the most beautiful salads I've ever seen! With heirloom tomatoes, olives, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, pickled red onions, capers, and arugula, the colors were beautiful. It also tasted just as good as it looked! Super refreshing and plentiful. Onto the Paccheri Salsa Alla Vodka... If vodka pasta is on the menu, I am almost always going to order it and unfortunately Rusticucina's just wasn't my favorite. It tasted more like a cheese pasta and I wasn't getting too much from the sauce. Maybe I need to come back and try a different pasta? Overall, it was a great dining experience! Rusticucina is my favorite place to get a cheese wheel! The price is roughly $38 but the portion is big enough to serve two. We like to get the cheese wheel and a few appetizers! The arancini are okay. They came out cold for us but the flavor is good! They did taste as though they were frozen but still good. The pasta wheel was a cream sauce with chicken and veggies. They torch the cheese wheel to melt it a little before throwing in our pasta. They needed to maybe melt the cheese a little more because it was slightly lumpy but still amazing flavor. read more

All of the staff was helpful, attending all the tables instead of just one to help service along, and we got our dishes in record time. Inside is beautifully decorated, and they really pay attention to details, even their plates are unique. The food tasted amazing! The cheese wheel for that evening was creamy and full of flavor from the sun dried tomatoes. The paste was made al denta which I enjoyed but some of my friends preferred theirs to be cooked a little longer. The calamari was perfectly crisp and the garlic bread was season to perfection! I came here with a group of 8 on a Saturday evening and luckily they were able to seat us immediately! The restaurant was very clean and looked beautiful and the servers were pretty attentive overall. As for food, we decided to get a couple appetizers and pinzas to share - we went with calamari, fried zucchini blossoms, Rustico Pinza, and Fig and Spinach Pinza. Calamari (5/5) - This was a really delicious appetizer! There was a good amount of calamari and the sizes weren't too big or too small per piece. The sauces that accompanied were also standard but flavorful. Fried Zucchini Blossoms (3/5) - For the price ($18) we did expect a little more than just 3 pieces but there was a good amount of stuffing in there. However, it did feel pretty heavy with the ricotta. Rustico Pinza (3.5/5) - We were expecting pizzas but that was our fault for not clarifying. I do wish it mentioned somewhere on the menu that it would be a flatbread though. As for the flavor, the bread wasn't the softest so we did have some trouble cutting through it but the toppings were delicious, especially the soppressato. Fig and Spinach Pinza (3/5) - Initially they gave us the wrong order and then took it back after realizing - I hope they didn't serve it to another table after as that poses a food safety issue. There wasn't much flavor overall to this but I do like how you can taste the sweetness of the figs and I think that really redeemed it. I would probably pass on this next time though. As for the pastas, we tried a good variety of most of the ones on the menus and I think all of them are a good option! The portions are also pretty huge too as most of us had enough for a second meal. I got the Rigatoni Ragi Della Nonna and it was amazing. There was a good amount of beef in the dish and the noodles were cooked perfectly. Even heating it up the next day it tasted great and flavorful. read more

But I think they emphasize on taking ur time between each dish. For appetizers we started with calamari, fried burrata, truffle fries, and fiori di zucca. All delicious. Really wanted to like this restaurant. Close to the zoo. Great Happy Hour specials. The reviews have them at over 4.5 on Google and Yelp what could go wrong. The food. So salty. Had others at the table that experienced the same Had to send mine back and try something new. It was okay. The apps were awesome - fries good and their take on zucchini all was sublime. Our server was very kind but was the only one on the floor and as such was able to be as attentive. The restaurant is very nicely decorated and the patio out front reminds you of the cafes in Europe. Unfortunately, I can't recommend. They also have discontinued their make your own pasta but the server said she would. Overall until they lay off the salt shaker we will not be back. Update: the owner contacted me through Yelp. He is very dedicated to making sure we had/have a good experience.
