My best friend and I visited this "wine bar" on Friday night and were honestly disappointed. We sat at the bar and were given a very limited food and wine menu. When I asked the bartender if that was the full menu, since it seemed odd there wasn't even a charcuterie option, his response was, "which restaurant has two menus?" Not the best start. Shortly after, when we mentioned we wanted to order a bottle, we were then handed a much more extensive wine list...which also included another small bites menu. That alone was confusing and felt inconsistent. We ordered a rosado from Spain, which we did enjoy, but overall the experience didn't match what you'd expect from a wine bar. The bottle wasn't chilled, and we noticed others in the restaurant had the same issue. Service was also lacking. The bartender never checked back on us, despite us sitting right at the bar. Overall, not the experience we were expecting. I'd recommend saving your money and going elsewhere. read more

I have been wanting to try this wine bar as it looks super cute. They have a nice patio area and then a decently sized indoor dining area. We came on Friday around 6 and were able to sit at the bar tables. I recommend reservations if you want the patio. I love the ambience and the vibe is super cute. They have a large wine list so definitely a perfect for a wine lover. The only food we got was the chatted octopus. It was tasty however I wouldn't say it had as much octopus in it that I wanted and they charged a decent amount for it so that's my only complaint. If you're planning to celebrate a birthday here sadly I do NOT recommend. My cousin has been here before and had recommended this place she said the food was delicious. Coming from out of town and it was my birthday. I made reservations for party of 8 on a Sunday 5:15p. We arrived 5mins prior to our reservation the hostess that the front checked us in. We had brought a cake and she mentioned there was a $35 cake cutting fee and we said that was fine. As we were seated our server came over and brought over menus. We told her we had a cake and she then proceeded to tell us there was a $35 cake cutting fee again we told her that was fine and she took the cake to the back. They weren't busy at all during our arrival. It took some time for everyone to decide what we wanted. She came back to check on us asked if we had questions. She talked about the $2 Oyster Sunday special. Few mins later another person came by asked if we were ready and he went over the menu. He said the plates are shareable and recommended ordering more than one on some of the dishes since we're a larger party. He took our order we each ordered a plate to share. Order: Ahi tuna, beef tartare, bone marrow, spinach gnudi, Italian dumplings, pork belly, 6 of their oysters, charred eggplant dip with house potato chips and patatas braves finca style. Drinks: 2 raging cyders. Our orders came out staggered, just whenever the food is was ready. Our drinks did take a while to arrive 20mins has passed when our server came back to clean some plates out and I had asked if she can check on the drinks. The food for the most part was really good. My favorites were the spinach gnudi, the Italian dumplings were so soft and creamy and the pork belly were delicious. Service on the other hand was a bit slow. There were period of time where we were just waiting for our server to come. We asked our server we were ready for the cake and she said she would bring it out. But then proceeded to help other tables another 10-15mins passed and she's still walking round helping others. The other male server who has been helping us came and asked if we wanted any dessert. We told him we brought and cake and we were waiting on it. He had no idea about the cake so then we waited some more. My cousin spoke to the hostess at the front who we encounter first about the cake to express how disappointed she was, their staff had ZERO communication between each other. Finally they brought it out and they cut the cake. After the cake business we were waiting again for someone to check on us as we wanted to ask for the check. No one came back so my cousin flagged another worker to ask for the check. They came back with our check and comped the cake cutting fee as well as the 2 drink we ordered. Overall most of the dishes we ordered were good but the whole experience and service was quite terrible. The staff wasn't communicating with each other. We told 3 different staff about the cake not one of them communicated with each other and it's pretty outrageous to pay a $35 cake cutting fee with that type of experience. Glad we didn't have to. The place is beautiful and clean. We were a bit disappointed probably won't be returning. Had an overall great dining experience at finca! Our waitress was super friendly and helpful with navigating the menu. We tried the patatas bravas, stracciatella, and Char grilled chicken thigh and it was all delicious. The stracciatella was a favorite - it was a perfect balance of fall flavors with the sweet and crunchy granola along with the persimmons and beets. I also really loved the green sauce on the patatas bravas, a nice twist on the classic red sauce. They also have a great selection of wines to choose from. My husband and I came here for a business meeting to celebrate our sixth year anniversary of our skin clinic, and met our rep there for dinner. I had read about Finca and how Chef Bower was from Juniper & Ivy. We made reservations through OpenTable, and were greeted by our server, Gia, who was friendly and helpful with guiding us thru the drinks and food menu. We had the sourdough bread, poached shrimp (delicious!), potato dumplings, patatas bravas, and shared the steak frites entree. I liked most things, and we all agreed the poached shrimp, dumplings, and steak were our faves. I'd say the patatas were okay, but a bit disappointed maybe due to hype. For food we ordered the octopus, skirt steak, and sardine salad. 3 plates was enough for 2 people but it is pretty pricey! The food was good, I liked the tomato sauce with the octopus and how the skirt steak was cooked. I wasn't a huge fan of the sardine salad but I wanted to try something different-- it had a strong relish flavor. Overall the ambiance and service here was great! Maybe we came on an off night but out of the 6 dishes we ordered, the bread was the best one. The onion tarte is served cold, so you're eating basically stringy soggy sticky muck. Very unpleasant texture - if it had been warm I would have liked it. The potato dumplings - also not warm? Very hard, almost zero sauce. Again, why was it served cold??? Beef tartar tasted like it had cream cheese mixed in it. I think I would describe it as if Dennys made cat food for humans. Overly fried tasting and too much cheese. I don't even know if there was cheese in the dish! The worst for last was the chicken breast. Omg. Another semi-cold dish and the driest chicken I've eaten since my Nana cooked for me as a child. The hamachi crudo was so bad we struggled to finish it, so many flavors competing with each other it felt like my mouth was having a seizure. The patatas bravas were bland and mushy. When I thinka Finca (see what I just did everybody?!) I'm not sure what I'm supposed to, well, think of. Is it a wine bar? A wine club? A tapas restaurant? A science project? A used-car auction? I went not too long ago and had a decent time there. There was a lot to like and there were a couple of things I didn't agree with, but it's found its audience, and I'm happy for them. There have been many attempts at wine bars in North Park over the years and they come and then they go and then no one remembers them. But Finca wants to change that and with beer sales dropping and wine sales picking up, there's a good chance their mission will be accomplished. Unfortunately, I went on a Wednesday, and the 'maitre'd' Alexander explained to me very diplomatically that there were no seats at the bar - some wine thing was happening, I thinka - but he and his exuberant personality managed to make me feel welcome just the same. He's a find, no question, and Finca is lucky to have him. I ended up sitting inside - it was cold that night and I was afraid my nipples would freeze and fall off. I sat by myself at a table for two towards the back of the restaurant. There were a few other couples seated already and throughout the night a couple of sturdy men kept checking on the guests. Whether they were managers or the Mafia, I don't know, but they were a felt presence. (Though they both dressed very handsomely, I'm not sure in this type of laid-back environment (in the most laid-back of laid-back cities) warrants such formality. I started off with their house-made Vermouth because you certainly don't find that at very many places. It was good. I don't know when I'll have my next opportunity to try home-made vermouth, but now that I have, I at least have something to compare it to. The tapas menu is expansive and it was difficult narrowing down my choices but I ended up getting the Beef Tartare and the Bone Marrow with the Red Pepper Jelly. The Bone Marrow was exactly what you would expect it to be rich, gelatinous, and never enough. But the jam gave it that oomph it needed and the two thick sourdough slices provided some crunch. The Beef Tartare was less of the traditional kind and more of the flatbread variety. And in all fairness to my server, he did point that out before placing the order. But, I don't know. I like new. I like different. But do it without turning into yet another restaurant serving flatbread. Don't get me wrong, the pickled green beans and mustard seeds worked. But I wanted to be transported to Sevilla, Spain not Columbus, Ohio. The bottled wine list is HUGE and apparently there's more if you can't find anything among so many very interesting choices. But I've never quite understood why places that serve food have wine lists that are so much more expensive. At least have a couple of choices at or under $35. (Yes, yes, I realize it's a tapas bar and because tapas, by their very nature, are smaller plates, you pay less than a full meal. But I mean, c'mon. I'm not going to order a $100 bottle of wine to drink with my $15 pork bellies nor my $16 bone marrow, for that matter.) And only four reds wines by the glass? That's, um, basic. Given how much consideration was put into the tapas menu, I was really disappointed by the wine options (though orange wines have been popular ever since The New York Times featured an article on them, they can be found on this menu, too.) My server was attentive, and the dining room was slow so he spent a little more time with me than I think he might have had they been busy. And while his service was on-point and he was very likeable, I wouldn't mention my speech impediment, whatever reasons a server might have. My thinking is that a) it's obvious b) people know what to do if they don't understand what I've said and c) it felt slightly awkward, almost, and I say this with the utmost respect, panderous. As I made my way back out into the increasingly frigid temperatures - nipples tucked safely under my coat - Alexander was sure to say goodbye and welcome me back. The question now is: Will I? With so many interesting food items and so little reasonably priced wines to choose from, I thinka Finca may not be my next choice to eat and drinka. read more

We didn't have a reservation anywhere for our 10th anniversary, we thought we could just "walk in" to a bar/tapas place at Northpark on a Friday night with a 1.5 and a 4.5 half year old kid and nothing can go wrong...but, boy we were in for a surprise . Literally every single joint had a 1-2 hr wait time, most tables were reserved and/or booked for the entire night and with two screaming, angsty small children in tow- the situation was dire. In came "Finca" in my yelp recommendations. It was a little tucked away from the main thoroughfare in North Park which was turning crazy pretty fast. The nice front door host told us that they can clean up a booth for us ASAP. We tried a lot of food and drinks- and everything was delish. I really liked the sweet and zesty bone marrow toast and the seared octopus topped with fresh pepper and cucumber.. the surprise hit was the local tomato and anchovies appetizers and the richly infused, chilled house Sangría . They don't treat them differently with special hook ups but you feel that sense of familiarity and comfort throughout the restaurant. The items are fresh, farmers market fresh, though not decidant. They are well seasoned but they are missing some of that buttery richness you associate with nicer restaurants. We easily parked in the lot next door (rare win in this area), and the vibe was that perfect sweet spot of elevated but not stuffy. We dressed up and felt totally at home. Pork Belly: 10/10 - Total table favorite. Slight kick, rich, and crispy. Steak Frites: 9/10 - Classic, well-executed, satisfying. Basque Cheesecake: 10/10 - Incredible. The strawberry rhubarb pairing was absolute perfection. Cocktails: 10/10. I asked for a Clover Club and while they didn't have raspberry purée, they offered to make it with hibiscus instead and it was absolutely perfect. One of the best custom cocktails I've had in a while. My friends also ordered a gin and tonic that was crisp and expertly done. Nothing watered down here just beautifully balanced, strong drinks. It really pains me to write this review. This restaurant seems to be built on good intentions and creativity. As you read the menu, the ingredients seem interesting with unusual combinations. It seems like a tapas place and the idea of tapas run through it, Spanish wines, interesting aperitifs, names of dishes that seems familiar. In reality most of what we ate were muddled messes of good intentions gone wrong. My comment to the table was it appeared the chef took ingredients and threw them again the wall to see if it works. It doesn't. The smoked eggplant dish was good but nothing stood out in the flavor profile. I could taste smoke and eggplant but little else. Maybe because it comes with a huge bowl of salty potato chips and a scoop of the dip. When it came to our table for 3 of us to share we immediately ordered a second because the dip portion was so small. Should have told them to hold the chips for the second order as they were unnecessary. I had the 3 course tasting menu menu so I had the most to experience. The Hamachi Crudo had so many unidentifiable ingredients, including a scoop of sorbet, I could only barely enjoy the fish hiding amongst the garden of ingredients. Someone else at the table ordered that as well and agreed. I then had the Ahi Tartare with consisted of squares of fish bathed in an unidentifiable (again) sauce served with what looked like chicharron but wasn't. Again a guessing game. The Gnocchi Cacio e Pepe was okay tasting but is served with a espuma of parmesan hiding whatever was beneath including a partially poached egg. The flavor was okay but again mostly a muddled mess, too rich to even finish. Another guest remarked all she could taste was black pepper. I tasted her point but I love black pepper so it didn't distract. The other dishes at the table were more of the same, lots of ingredients that competed with each other or distracted. We all agreed the highlight of the evening was the banana split. Divine! Go for dessert and save some money. A girlfriend and I visited Finca last night to celebrate my engagement, and this cozy California coastal tapas gem absolutely delivered on flavor, atmosphere, and heartfelt hospitality. The dishes arrived in a well-paced order that made the experience feel like a chef's tasting journey. First came the bone marrow toast -- and wow. As someone who doesn't typically love bone marrow, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. The thick, crispy toast paired perfectly with the rich marrow -- a bold and satisfying start. Next, we tried the jamón -- elegantly drizzled with a zesty, spicy sauce and served alongside a muffin-like bread that balanced the saltiness beautifully. Then came the Italian dumplings nestled in a bed of Calabrian chili purée, crowned with burrata in the center. While flavorful, these ranked slightly lower for us compared to the other standout plates -- but still well-executed and unique. The two protein-forward tapas that followed were surprisingly hearty and deeply satisfying. The hanger steak was an unexpected star -- layered over sweet potato with what resembled chimichurri and a rich, spicy, mole-style sauce underneath. Here's where Finca really went above and beyond: my friend casually mentioned we were celebrating my engagement, and our server, Melanie, lit up with joy. Minutes later, she returned with complimentary cava for us both -- a gesture that completely made our night. As I ordered a house eclair to-go for my fiancé (he loves them), the manager personally delivered it, saying, "This is for your husband-to-be." I nearly melted. Three stars is generous for this absolute miss of a restaurant. To be frank, I have no idea how it has so many great reviews. My guess is that many people are taken in by the "veneer" of a nice dining experience, which in some respects, most notably the service, Finca manages. Alas, the notable pluses really stop right there. Starting with that positive note, the service really was stellar. Informative, crisp, helpful, and attentive, the front of the house really did its job well. No complaints there. But of the three-legged stool of food, service, and atmosphere, it was really the only one that held up the dining seat. Decor-wise, there are some lovely elements that will certainly be highlighted in any pictures you might see. The reality, however, is that from what would typically be the prime wall-side seats in any other restaurant, I found myself spending the evening staring at Finca's accumulated boxes, storage, and extra furniture piled up against the front window of the restaurant. Why put the money and effort into your other lovely decor elements and then so prominently display your unsightly storage for all of your patrons to see? So bizarre. Food-wise, Finca's offerings were equally disappointing. Not that anything was bad, but literally every dish we ordered was so forgettable. You would think that out of six shareable dishes, including some specifically recommended by the staff, at least one would stand out. Instead, we left astonished that there wasn't a single item that we would ever order again. In fairness, the bottle of wine we ordered was enjoyable. While I probably wouldn't considering having dinner at Finca ever again, I might be convinced to have a glass of wine at the reasonably attractive bar sometime. Nice, more quiet wine bar & tapas place with indoor & sidewalk seating. Servers were friendly, food is good. Cocktails as well as wines, by glass & bottle. I had a nice rose wine, that I enjoyed. We got the charred eggplant dip with house potato chips, I liked the dip, the potato chips were ok. Then the grilled eggplant, which was good . A well decorated space and nice ambiance for dinner. Fantastic and attentive service. Food is on the pricier side and smaller portions (tapas style). Best to come here with an adventurous group (3-4) to try as much as possible. Our favorites were the bone marrow, mushroom st jacques, and the duck confit croquette. Super cute wine and tapas spot in North Park. Loved the bar area and outdoor seating area reminded me of Europe. Staff was very friendly. Met one of the owners, Dan, who shared all about their wine club and I'm heavily considering joining. Loved the wine I got, Mencia I believe. Tapas we only tried the sourdough and potato dumpling one. Both were good. Do feel like the tapas pricing was high though. When I think tapas, I do not think $18 for a plate, especially patas bravas. Tapas galore! We randomly walked into Finca during happy hour and honestly... might have been the best coincidence of the year. Ended up pretty much ordering one of everything -- and not a single miss. The staff was incredibly helpful, especially when it came to picking drinks. We were a little out of our depth with the wine list, but they guided us like pros and nailed every recommendation. The food? Fantastic. Beautifully done small plates that pack a punch in flavor. And the space itself is so open and inviting -- perfect for lingering over bites and drinks. Finca is one of those spots where everything just clicks. Great food, great people, great vibes. I have 10 wine club memberships throughout San Diego and Finca is my absolute favorite. First of all, they focus on Spanish and Portuguese wines mostly, which makes it really fun to be able to focus in on regions and learn the difference about the terroir. They have a rotating tapas menu of the absolute best food that you have ever had, I'm surprised this place isn't in the Michelin guide yet. Selfishly I never want to tell people about this place because I love it so much, but you have to know and you have to go here. We sit at the bar every single Wednesday to try their new flight of wines and learn about what makes each one special. Sometimes you get lucky enough to actually meet the winemaker, and no matter what week you come on, they are actually talking you through the tasting notes and growing practices for that specific wine. I have tried food here that I would have never tried anywhere else and fallen absolutely in love with it. For example, I always thought I was the kind of person that would never eat an anchovy or a sardine. They have a sardines over potatoes dish that completely evangelized me! Thinly slice sardines over golden potatoes in a garlic, lemon and Dill oil. Yum! I'm thinking about it now and salivating. One thing everybody will tell you when they come. There is how much they love all the glassware and the beautiful and intentional touches throughout. They'll never share with you what antique stores they get their glassware from, but you'll know just how much care they put into it when you go. read more
