Nothing special. The drinks were average, prices were average, nothing really stood out. They're not bad, but they don't blow you away as well. The entrance is from the back even though it's connected to caffe Calabria. I thought the seating arrangements were kinda awkward but it's fine if you're just getting one drink. Friendly bartenders. They have an upstairs too; it's pretty cool.

The ambience is very chill with good music, great cocktails in North Park. I am a lover of gin coupe refreshing drinks and this place is it You must come for the happy hour and then the rooftop bar at 8pm

You can enter through the alley or cafe. This is a dimly lit chill cocktail bar with fun music. Great place to have a conversation and meet people. Bartenders were extremely friendly and provided great service. The Wrong Yacht drink was amazing! I definitely want to come again during happy hour and want to also try an espresso martini here. They also offer non-alcoholic cocktails as well.

A happy hour that goes until 7pm?!? Yes please! Cocktails are $8-$10 (or could be up to $12) on their HH menu. If you order drinks here, you can order a pizza and bring it in from the restaurant. You cannot bring their cocktails to the restaurant though. It tends to be warmer on the first floor. They have a small outdoor space which is great if it's too dark, too hot, or too loud. The second floor is surprisingly cooler than the first floor they also have a nice patio upstairs. There are TVs and if there's a padres game, it'll be on but it'll be crowded. A good staple for a weeknight HH.

My girlfriend and I both agreed that we found our #1 bar in San Diego. This is our second time here after dinner. We both love the drinks, friendly bartenders, vibe, and the corners around the bar where you and your date can enjoy the drink and ambiance. Love it!

Love this new NYC style bar that opened up in the back of Caffe Calabria. It is not so much a speakeasy, quite easy to find - more an addition to the restaurant. The entire area is clean and modern. The menu is robust with affordable drinks (about $13 which YES is affordable for SD). We didn't notice the upstairs until our last 20 min in the bar and wish we had seen it sooner! It's cozier. Would definitely return to this bar! They also have a TV and it was fun to watch the padres game.

Fantastic pizza!! Lovely seating and great atmosphere. Service took a while, but that's because it's so popular!

Came here on a week night to finally check out. First information is where is this located: Two options: -through the restaurant and walk all the way to the back -if it's closed then enter from the back side/alley side (u will see furniture and lights easily) We tried one of their shots (1 for $6 or 2 for $10) and tried some of their cocktails. Everything was really tasty and the price wasn't too bad. Cocktails were $13. There is a late night happy hour from midnight to 2am.

This place came recommended to me from another bartender while I was visiting the area. It ended up being my favorite stop of the night! The bartenders were super friendly, the old school hip-hop music was great, and it's truly a beautiful venue. It has a speakeasy feel, so it was a little bit hard to find, but once I did, I was impressed! Be sure to check out the upstairs as well.

Their espresso martini was sooo bomb! It was made with tequila! We got there at midnight so their entrance was thru the back. The place was so aesthetic. The service was amazing

Busy but great ambience and service, very upbeat cocktail bar highlighting their excellent drinks first and foremost. Had the Rush Hour and Lost in Cali, will def be back for more!

What a vibey little speakeasy! My work had planned a North Crawl bar hopping night and we ended the night here, We were able to reserve a corner of the place for 15 of us. We entered through the alley entrance and the space is small & intimate. Lots of nice seating around, and even an upstairs area with even more. Upstairs, there is a small balcony that overlooks the restaurant front where you can also access the speakeasy. The drinks are yummy, I got the White Linen which has vodka, elderflower, cucumber, lime, sugar, and soda -- HIGHLY recommend, it is so refreshing! I tasted others' drinks Passion Petal Punch - a fruity and smokey mezcal cocktail, and Espresso Martini - sweet and strong. A great place to have drinks :)

    Cocktails were delish!

Great space! Great vibes. Great drinks. Plenty of seating (they have an upstairs area too), which is always a plus for my 30+ year old body. Definitely a hidden gem.

Reservations are encouraged but not mandatory as I saw numerous people get in as walk ins before my reservation. Walk-ins are seated at the bar and limited to 1 hour. For reservations they do not seat early even if you check in early. No dress code, saw people with tube tops and flip flops. They sell lots of different types of alcohol in their store. I purchased a $33 bottle of Amaretto that said it had a cookie essence. Bar Entry: The hostess will check ID and then you sit or stand on the platform and it slowly spins you around to the inside. Bathrooms are on the left and exit on the right. Our server was great and listened to what we wanted in a drink and offered options. Tried: Amuse $4 - we were celebrating a birthday so these were offered as birthday shots. Amaretto sour $18 - very good. Smooth and not too strong. French kiss - very strong. Didn't like this one. Mint mojito mocktail (aka dealers choice) $11 - this was so good and refreshing. I love the atmosphere inside. We were seated in throne like chairs which was very cool. We made a reservation and although we arrived on time, we had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated. I agree with some of the other commenters when they say that the revolving fireplace needs some love. It has the look and feel of needing to be updated. Also, for it to be a "speakeasy" vibe, you could hear the loudness of the bar through the walls. It just kind of ruins the facade a little bit. Regardless, we enjoyed the novelty of being slowly admitted to the speakeasy on the opposite side. We were given seats and upon first glance it was a dark lit space with an old fashioned aesthetic. I was surprised to see how casual everyone was dressed- I assumed there was a dress code, but I guess flip flops made the cut ‍. It took a few minutes for our server to attend to us, and when he did you could tell he was slammed. We just didn't get the table side manner one was hoping for an establishment like this. Peeking at their drink menu, I found myself disappointed that much of their options had a lot of sweet or fruit juice ingredients. So, I went for their old fashioned. For the price, it was just okay. Another disappointing moment. In all, it wasn't terrible, but it just isn't worth the hype. Overpriced and mediocre drinks and a seemingly overworked staff didn't make for a memorable experience and ended up not being for us. Glad to have tried it...but look elsewhere if you've actually been to a speakeasy. This just doesn't live up to what it's trying to sell you.

DRINKS: 9/10 The cocktails were creative, well crafted, and definitely strong enough to make you feel like you were getting your money's worth. I also loved how much attention they put into the presentation. Every drink looked like a piece of art and added to the whole tiki experience. SERVICE: 9/10 The staff were friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. They took the time to answer questions and made great recommendations without making us feel rushed. AMBIANCE: 10/10 This is easily the highlight of the experience. The entire space is beautifully designed, and every little detail makes it feel like you've escaped into a hidden tropical bar. It's cozy, intimate, and unlike any other place I've been to in San Diego. Reservations are definitely worth making since the space is on the smaller side and fills up quickly. The only reason I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars is that, while the experience and ambiance were amazing, the drinks are definitely on the pricier side. I understand you're paying for the craftsmanship and atmosphere, but it's probably not somewhere I'd visit regularly because of that. It's common for tiki bars to be pricey so it was to be expected. Overall, I'm really glad I finally got to experience False Idol. I'm really glad that I found Oculto because it has been one of the highlights of my San Diego trip. First of all, the concept of the seven deadly sins is really cool. The space is absolutely moody, intimate, and thoughtfully designed. It has an atmosphere that makes you want to slow down and enjoy your drink rather than rush through it. And since I don't really drink, I was definitely going slow. And I was alone, but the good part was I found myself just taking it all in instead of reaching for my phone. I started with an espresso martini-style cocktail that was smooth, balanced, and the perfect way to ease into the evening. For my second drink, I asked for the bartender's choice, and it ended up being one of my favorite cocktails I've had in a long time. It featured lychee, strawberry, and cardamom, and was garnished with a beautiful little rose. It was creative, elegant, and every flavor worked together perfectly. The cocktails were outstanding, but what really made the experience stand out was the service. Devin was an excellent bartender and an amazing conversationalist. He was warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely engaging, making me feel welcome from the moment I sat down. He took the time to craft a drink based on flavors I enjoy, and it was clear he cares about creating a great experience, not just serving drinks. If you're looking for a cocktail bar with incredible drinks, a gorgeous atmosphere, and exceptional hospitality, I can't recommend Oculto enough. I'll absolutely be back the next time I'm in San Diego.

Located in Old Town San Diego, we had dinner at a restaurant within walking distance from Oculto. I parked for free on the street and made a reservation day of. It's a pretty small speakeasy so if you're going on a weekend, you're probably going to have to make a reservation in advance. Ambiance (4.5/5): Oculto has the seven deadly sins theme going which is pretty cool. I've been to a similar speakeasy in St. Pete, Florida. Once you arrive at the mezcal bar that houses Oculto, check in with the host, and he will bring you to a "confessional." There, you must confess one of the seven deadly sins before the door to the speakeasy is opened for you. Naturally, I went with "lust." Once you get inside, it's a charming speakeasy. Service (2.5/5): This is one of the areas that leaves a little to be desired. There was only one bartender working when I was there. Since speakeasies have elevated cocktails, service was quite slow. They definitely needed two bartenders there to speed up the process. They also have a two-drink minimum which I was annoyed about on principle. I often have multiple drinks at a bar, but I never feel like I'm forced to do it. Food (N/A): I'm not sure if they have food, I don't believe they do. Regardless, I was on a liquid diet. Drinks (4/5): Pretty interesting menu of craft cocktails. When I'm at a speakeasy, I look for unique drinks that have an interesting combination of ingredients and flavor profiles. In addition to a nice list, they also have a dealer's choice cocktail where you can tell the bartender what you're into and they will craft a custom cocktail for you based on your taste. Another cool thing about Oculto is that it's located next to the cemetery in Old Town. That adds to the spooky theme.

The…read morespace-themed speakeasy vibe is so creative and immersive--it honestly feels like you've stepped onto another planet. The kids had an absolute blast, especially with the fun non-alcoholic drinks that fit the theme perfectly. The menu is pretty limited, so if you're coming for dinner with a group, you'll likely end up ordering almost everything to make it a full meal. We tried the Potatoes, Sandwich (aka Jackfruit Bao Buns), Paella Rice (our family's favorite!), Lemon Pepper Tofu, and the Charred Zaatar Roti. The Paella Rice was the standout dish for us. Service was warm and attentive, and they made the birthday celebration extra special by surprising the birthday boy with a complimentary dollop of soft serve, which was a really thoughtful touch. The only reasons for 4 instead of 5 stars: the limited menu (in addition to this food menu, wish they would include also include some more appetizers from their sister establishments, so guests can sit back and enjoy their creative and in some cases strong cocktails! And the fact that they can't accommodate parties larger than six due to the seating layout. If you have a bigger family or group, that can make celebrating together a little tricky. Overall, such a unique spot that's worth visiting at least once for the atmosphere alone!

Young Blood speakeasy was recommended by another friend so we visited earlier in the day (late…read moreafternoon) & made a reservation for 9PM, as it is very difficult to accommodate walk ins due to limited space. The speakeasy is located within Neighborhood bar, behind a false wall of beer barrels (there is a host for Young blood behind the barrel door) & the large refrigerator door which is the entrance to Young Blood. The menu features a choice of 3 courses of cocktails where the 2nd course is called Dealer's Choice where your mixologist will craft a unique cocktail for you based on your preferences. Service was outstanding & attentive & cocktails were beautifully crafted, balanced & flavorful.

This was our second time going to Youngblood. The first time was two years ago. Drinks were just as…read moregood as we remember, however they did change up the experience. Previously you got three custom drinks based on your preference starting with a starter, main, and dessert style. Now, they kept the starter, main and dessert, however the "bartender's choice" is only for the main. Both the starter and dessert are options. The starter is purely based on preference and intentionally they leave out the alcohol included so that doesn't sway your decision. Their bartenders explained that this change was to meet people in the middle of experiences they might get elsewhere at speakeasy's while keeping their originality. Honestly, both experiences were great so I can't complain. For my starter, I went with the Lush + Tropical Fruit + Citric. I was stuck between that and two others, but from talking with the bartender they help break down the drink experience further. It was super helpful. We heard that some people, forgo the main drink of bartendar's choice and instead just do two starters... that is an option, but I LOVE and highly recommend going with the flow and letting the bartenders make you a drink based on your preferences. They're great at their jobs. For my husband's starter, he went with the beeswax + barley + orchard. If you like honey, you will love it. The other he was choosing between was the herbaceous + bright + oceanic, and that one looked fun. Someone else got it, and it was Icey-like (in looks). Would want to try it. For my second drink, I explained my preferred drinks are margaritas, mezcalitas, or punch style fruity/floral, smooth, and spicy drinks. I got a drink that was mezcalita based with passionfruit and spicy pepper basically. It was yum and definitely like drinks I would normally have. My third drink I went with the strawberry fields.... Highly recommend. It was in an underrated, simple glass, but has a fantastic flavor. My husband got the lemon meringue pie (as did so many people in the bar), and I was slightly worried I would have liked his more. But the strawberry fields ended up being our favorite drink of the drink between everything we had. It was just great.
