Yelp for the win. Monkeybar was located on the same street as our hotel, and although we weren't staying at the hotel it's located at, we still went to dine & drinks and it was fabulous. I loved the vibe and outdoor seating. You did have to pay for parking in the garage and I think it was $5 an hour. Not terrible. Monkeybar is a great place to hang out with friends for happy hour! For some reason they don't offer happy hour on Friday, but they do Sunday-Thursday. I do wish they offered more food on the menu (higher protein item,) but the pizzas are really good. Prices aren't bad for a hotel bar, and service is excellent! My friend and had been planning to meet at a Mission Valley wine bar on a Friday evening, but found that it wasn't open. So, we looked to find something nearby and found Monkeybar. I had sort of been to Monkeybar several years back when I used Resort Pass to spend a day lounging by the pool. At that time, I had walked up to the bar several times for mimosas, but mainly spent time at the pool rather than in the bar. This time, it was a chilly January evening and we walked in to find that there was a convention at the hotel, so it was pretty packed. The decor was modern, but the bar itself was really just a hotel lobby bar. I was hoping it would have a bit more character. There was a DJ playing, which was cool, but it also was pretty loud making it difficult to catch up with my friend. We struggled as the indoor area was loud and the outdoor area was really cold. The couple of outdoor tables that had fire pits were already taken by convention-goers. Finally, we chose to sit on the outside area of the bar, which was still chilly, but was quiet enough so that we could chat. Anyway, I was a bit hungry, and had been hoping for a salad, but there were none on the menu. We chose to share the edamame hummus. They did have some decent sounding cocktails on the menu, but we were in the mood for wine. We both chose glasses of Malbec. The Malbec was decent, so I had a second glass. Our bartender was friendly, but out hummus was forgotten. After I asked, he expedited our order. I enjoyed the hummus and the variety of veggies. As it got colder, we moved inside when the DJ ended. Parking is free with validation, however mine did not get validated correctly by the bartender. I explained to the parking attendant and he let me go. All in all, it was a decent place to talk with a friend over a glass of wine. I think it would be a nice bar if I were staying in the hotel, but not special enough to make the trip. Visited the monkey bar last week and it was so good I went back again in the same week! It's located inside the Town and Country Resort Hotel and the decor is super cute. Their fungi pizza is AMAZING and this is what I usually get but this last time I went for an appetizer smorgasbord and got the jerk wings with the curry sauce (you MUST try this curry sauce) the cauliflower, the brussel sprouts and a side of regular fries. Tip: try the curry dip that comes with the wings with the fries and the cauliflower- you're welcome. Also the Dan Draper and Stardust are amazing cocktails. read more

Lately I've noticed customer service is a lost art. The maître day at the other place didn't bother mentioning this place even though we told her we just wanted drinks. She instead acted like their brunch was too pricey when in fact where we came from was much more. It's the resort's hotel lobby bar with mid-century decor that feels both nostalgic and fresh, and the making it easy to settle in and hang out for a while. The drinks are pretty creative too, especially during the Christmas season. The staff is friendly, which makes the experience even better. Drinks were fine. This review is based solely on Mike, who was working the bar that night. My friend simply asked, out of the mocktail options, which he would recommend, and he was incredibly rude. He said he didn't know and that he didn't know what she liked. The interaction was awkward and unprofessional. I also work in the same industry and understand that guests can sometimes cross a line, but I can confidently say my friend's question was not a nuisance at all nor were our drinks complicated to make. I did notice that he was noticeably friendlier and more engaged with other guests, which honestly made the interaction even more frustrating haha. From what I observed, the bar was not busy, though I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that there may have been behind-the-scenes factors I couldn't see. We came here for drinks and small bites after attending a film festival. On Yelp, the hours of operation says open until midnight. We got here around 9:30pm and found out that the kitchen had closed and the only food available were some prepackaged egg salad sandwiches and salads. It's a bit misleading if you want food and drinks because none of the food items on the menu were available. I ended up just getting a cocktail only. I don't remember what I got because it was something recommended by our server and not on the cocktails list. It was really strong and tasted like straight up vodka (not lemony as I had expected). The bar is situated inside the Town & Country Resort and is connected to a beautifully lit outdoor patio. There are seats at the bar and the lounge area. "A 60's Palm Springs vibe" That's how one of my drinking companions described this place, and I would agree. I think Don Draper would have felt at home here, and there is even a cocktail named for him. If you want to relax with friends and feel like you are on vacation, check out Monkey Bar for yourself. I made it just under the wire for happy hour, and Tyler hooked me up with a Drunken Monkey. It's half price from 4 to 6 pm, Mondays through Fridays, and a pretty good deal at that. It's more of a refreshing sipper than a toxic tiki drink, so feel free to get more than one. I was here on a Thursday night, and the music combo was pretty good. I enjoyed my drink, and I got a Stone Delicious IPA afterward because it was National IPA Day. Tyler and the other bartender who served me were great. All in all, Monkey Bar is a place with chill vibes and a mellow atmosphere. I can't comment on the food, though, because it doesn't look like there is anything vegan on the menu. Not one thing. ARLO (the restaurant next door) has a vegan entree, so maybe they would let you order that? Personally, I'm glad I ate before I came. Maybe next time I'll visit at night and hang by the fire pit. This was a piss poor drink you'd get in a crappy bar or club. Should be called the Fruit Punch Monkey. No booze no complexity. The Don Draper was an overpriced lazy old fashioned. Holes looks like a 70's motor lodge on the outside that did a cheap remodel on the inside. Stay away from this place that charges Vegas hotel prices and delivers cardboard crusted pizza. No attempt to make right. San Diego known for its amazing beer and they have sad selection like someone who doesn't have there pulse on what San Diego is all about.
