    Lobster fusilli

Highlights: - came here for lunch but interior is cool and sleek, might be a vibe for dinner - still thinking about that lobster fusilli, it was INCREDIBLE - carpaccio and Caesar salad was status quo, very good - excellent service from our server from Brazil? Made good recommendations - would def come back to try the other pastas

Came here recently on a Thursday (late) night. We were seated quickly and the staff were friendly and attentive. We ordered the 1. Fiori di zucca (Squash blossoms)- unique dish I would recommend trying. It was a good combination of flavors with a crunchy tempura outside +cheesy center+sweet and sour sauce on top 2.funghi e tartufo pasta- also good unique flavor but was very rich, I would recommend splitting this dish 3.palermitana- rigatoni pasta, I'd skip on this one The restaurant was only about half full at the time, but the music was so loud that I felt like I had to shout at my husband to hear him. Cute spot if you're looking for a fun night out with drinks but maybe wouldn't recommend for an intimate date night.

Someone told me they once cried (of happiness) after eating here so I had to go check it out for myself. We got the: - Lollipop chops: lamb was good, sauce was AMAZING - Dolce e piccante pizza: crust was well baked and loved the sweet, spicy, and salty mixture, very heavy though. - Frutti di mare: seafood wasn't fresh unfortunately Overall came to a conclusion that this is an okay spot, not my first choice in Little Italy. Maybe if I try the pesto gnocchi i'll change my mind since that looked pretty good.

Fun place, always busy!! I used to go here often in 2021-23 this was first time back in years. It doesnt seem as great overall. The zucchini blossoms are different, more of a heavy fried dense coating than prior but still good! However the carbonara was SO good! Would recommend any of the pastas for sure cannot go wrong there. It's quite loud and vibrant not in a horrible way. There's decent wait most of the time too. Servers/hostesses were average in regards to friendliness and attentiveness. Also they got rid of my favorite cucumber drink :( I'll always go back here it's solid just a little different

Came here after little Italy farmers market shopping. Everything in little Italy is walkable but parking is horrible. My friend and I walk in without a reservation and got seated right away. Drinks : Bianca sangria -very light and refreshing, just the right hint of sweetness. Unsweetened ice tea with lemon Food : bolognese pasta - horrible, don't get it. My friend was the one who ordered it and only took two bites. We pack to go and my boyfriend ate it and he didn't even like it as well. It was dry and pasta is like spaghetti -Os . Even the serving bowl seems like it's a kids meal Frutti di Mare pasta - this pasta was so much better. Light sauce, flavors of the seafood was perfect with a hint of tart and not overly fishy. The pasta cooked perfect à la dente. Burrata pizza 1000/10 - amazing pizza I have ever tried in CA. Thin slice, they make it perfect amount of dough and crust. The Red sauce is what made the pizza so amazing. This pizza was so light not a hint of oiliness which two girls finish the whole pizza! It was that good! Overall I would definitely come back for the pizza again!! And I would definitely try their other dishes but Avoid the Bolognese. Total price was about $120 price is definitely steep but their pizza was so worth it. Service was good at the beginning but towards the end when it was time to pack up food and get the bill it took forever.

Legit Italian restaurant right in the heart of little Italy in San Diego. We came on a weekday night but it was already bustling around early on. We were fortunate to be seated within a few minutes at their outside patio. Overall plenty of seating and good ambiance inside and outside the restaurant. Excellent service. We ordered the garlic bread, pollo parmigiana, and frutti di mare. All were exquisite! He garlic bread was perfect. The parmigiana was a good blend of chicken and pasta. The frutti di mare had a generous portion of seafood. Would definitely come again!

Located in the center of Little Italy, Barbusa is a restaurant that offers modern Sicilian cuisine. Since my partner and I were planning to explore the surrounding area, we decided to book a dinner reservation here. When we arrived, the restaurant was extremely packed. Even though we had a reservation, we still had to wait 20 minutes until we were seated. Not cool! Because this restaurant was so full, it was extremely loud and noisy. I could barely hear what my partner was saying when we tried to talk. In addition, the seating layout felt very tight. We were way too close to the table next to us. Food-wise, everything was satisfactory, but nothing amazing. I've definitely had much better Italian food before. We ordered the following: Funghi E Tartufo: handmade pappardelle pasta with mushrooms, panna, mascarpone, and white truffle oil - very rich and buttery. Gnocchi: handmade gnocchi pasta with pistachio pesto, panna, and oven roasted tomato - the nutty pistachio pesto sauce pairs really nicely with the soft gnocchi Burrata Pizza: artisan pizza with tomatoes, burrata, and basil - fresh, simple pizza with a thin crust that is great for sharing Other than the food, I did not really enjoy anything else about this place. Service was lacking as well. Parking was difficult because of how congested Little Italy is at night and the fact that there is no designated lot.

Beautiful atmosphere, both indoor and outdoor seating, right in the heart of little Italy Unique menu of varied items, including vegetarian options Good, attentive, friendly service Had the Bietole (beet) salad and an appetizer of fried zucchini. Very good!

We had a delicious experience at Barbusa this week. We started off with the garlic bread (added a side of marinara) and the Bietole salad. The garlic bread was fresh and accompanied the boat of sauce well- basically a spoon to shovel as much of that fast marinara into our mouths as quickly as possible. 10/10 would recommend the marinara boat. The salad was a welcome break in carb heaven, the arugula and friese were crisp and the creamy goat cheese nicely contrasted the crunch of the pecans. For entrees, we had the pesto gnocchi and the rigatoni with sausage (swapped the pasta for the house made fettuccine). We both really enjoyed our meals and the serving sizes were huge- we both went home with leftovers. The gnocchi was the stand out dish, creamy and decadent without being too rich. We sat on the patio and enjoyed people watching, but felt the service could have been slightly more attentive. We waited quite a long time to order entrees after having finished our starters, and the waiter seemed annoyed when we asked to split the check for business purposes. Other than that, we certainly enjoyed our meal and would be back when visiting San Diego

My partner and I took a visit to Barbusa (With reservation) on a busy weekend and I have to say, parking here is a absolute nightmare. We arrived to Little Italy an hour early and it took us almost an hour to find suitable parking. Sure, you're able to find paid parking lots but most that are outdoors seem pretty unsafe and street parking (metered) were pretty nonexistent as well due to the amount of traffic and congestion there is. Quite frankly, it's worse than DTLA. My partner and I parked about a 20 minute walk away which made the experience a bit unpleasant. Onto the restaurant itself, the ambiance is quite romantic I'd say. The dimmed interior is very fitting to the style of restaurant and this occasion overall. There's outdoor seating with heat lamps but I find it quite congested when servers are walking in between crowds from the street to the outdoor section of the restaurant, a bit of a mess but can't really complain about the layout. My partner and I had to wait around 20 minutes to get seated after arriving with our reservation which is not ideal but the restaurant was very busy overall. Service was decent at best, our orders were taken a bit slow but it's understandable as it was quite busy. Not very attentive but other servers/staff accommodated with table cleaning and plates. We ordered the Gnocchi pasta, Funghi E Tartufo pasta, and Burrata pizza to share and they came out in a timely manner. Pretty impressed with the presentation with all three dishes which is a huge plus. Taste overall, it didn't really blow me away. It was tasty but nothing over the top in my opinion. Portions are decent and certainly fulfilling with a side dish. I'd have to say though, the Burrata Pizza is pretty sizeable, decent size to share and a decent pizza overall with a crunchy crust. Overall, a average experience as the parking and service wasn't adequate. Felt a bit rushed but food was decent. Interested in revisiting just to try the other pastas and Italian food, just a disappointing visit and didn't impress me enough.

Great pasta spot to try in Little Italy! We came right when they opened on a Saturday, and the service was amazing. Everyone was so warm and welcoming. We ordered the Funghi e Tartufo, Prosciutto e Tartufo, and the Palermitana. Everything was delicious, but the standout for me was the Funghi e Tartufo. The sauce was rich and flavorful, and the pasta had the perfect chewy texture that paired so well with the creamy dish. I was also celebrating my birthday, and they surprised me with a small sweet treat, which was such a thoughtful touch!

    Ask the Community - Barbusa

Do they gave Gluten Free pasta or GF options?

Yes~ their pasta selections have gluten free available options.

Are there high chairs for kids?

    Yes, they do

I've heard this place is loud, just how loud is it?

Yes it's louder than needed. Food and decor makes it worth the visit. You can always dine outside.

Hi! Do they do anything for anniversaries/bdays?

You might have to contact them directly. I put in my OpenTable reservation that the occasion was an anniversary but they didn't do anything lol.…

Do they have a kids menu?

Doesn't seem like it but their garlic bread and bolognese Al forno (looks like spaghetti o's with traditional tasting red meat sauce) would be good options to share with kids!

Is the corkage fee still $20 or did it increase?

Corkage fee was insanely increased to the highest in Little Italy at $30/bottle as of 6/8/2022

Is there still a corkage fee? Can we still bring our own bottle?

    HIGH Corkage fee. $30/bottle

How do I make a reservation for a large party? Opentable won't let me make a large party reservation. Party of 20

I think you need to call for a party of that size.

Is there a corkage fee here?

    YES ! Corkage fee is $30 / bottle !

    Are dogs allowed?

I'm sure they allow dogs at their outside tables, but I wouldn't recommend it. It gets crowded and there is lot's of hustle and bustle around the tables.

    Is there indoor dining?

They just began seating inside again three weeks ago.

    Do they still accept cash?

Yes. We paid cash and card for our bill.

Do you they sell "cheese wheel pasta"?

I was just there this past Sunday and currently don't offer that

Are they taking phone calls for take out? I've tried calling for the past 2 days and nobody is answering.

They are taking phone calls for take out.

Does lunch menu have the same item as dinner menu? Thanks.

The lunch menu has the same items as the dinner menus.

Do they have a vegan menu?

There is no dedicated vegan menu but they do have a great vegan pizza. Call ahead to make sure they have the vegan sausage.

Do they still serve short rib stack during happy hour, and is happy hour served only at the bar?

I just went last week for HH and did not see that on their menu (I just posted the pic of the HH menu for you for your reference). And yes, HH is only served at the bar area.

    Is parking tricky here?!

Yes pretty tricky to find street parking! There is a public parking garage down the street and it has an elevator that pops you up into the Little Italy Plaza. It costs $16 for 2 hours.

Do they take the Synergy gift card?

    Yes

Hi I've small very well behaved pup. Are they dog friendly?

I would not think so, there is no outdoor seating and it's a fairly upscale Italian place.. also very busy, and loud which would not be good for a dog. It also states on the main page that they are not dog friendly.

Staff was also not very attentive to guests' needs, rather just going through the motions. For instance, they noted "standing room only" and that they would eventually seat our party of two. They walked us to an exact spot on the floor to stand and view the menu in the dark (we used our phone flashlights, but it wasn't easy while carrying our belongings too), and they instructed us not to order at the bar in this colorful but dimly lit tiki lounge. We essentially ordered from staff who took our order in the middle of the floor, then we had to hold our drinks, some that came with additional shot glasses, in full hands, as we were never seated. We did find a barrel to set our drinks on later, but their process and expectations for guests was just really weird and impractical. The theme and decor of the setting was lovely, with moments of a lightning and thunder effect that made the experience more immersive. But we were not impressed by the sticky menus and sticky floor, nor the lack of service and minimal help from staff while there. We made the most of our time at False Idol regardless of their shortcomings. The bombay sling and enigma de muerte were pretty decent in quality and flavor, so it's safe to say the drinks aren't the problem here. And though we probably won't return, it was cool for a one-time experience.

If you're not a regular, be careful, because apparently all it takes is one drunk friend of the staff making up a story to get you kicked out. While visiting San Diego with friends, we came here after hearing so many great things. There was a short wait, which was fine. The four of us were seated at a small standing table, also fine. Behind us were two guys drinking at the standing bar. One of them bumped into my friend and then stroked her arm while apologizing. She was visibly uncomfortable, so I told her to switch places with me. The guy immediately said, "We're gay, so you don't have to worry," then turned to his friend and said, "Now he looks so stupid and embarrassing." I told him, "I don't think it's embarrassing to make sure your friends are comfortable," then turned back around. I didn't argue with him, insult him, or continue the conversation. I thought that was the end of it. A few minutes later, the manager came over and told us we had made comments that made other patrons uncomfortable and asked us to leave. We had already paid for our drinks and were still waiting for them. My friend followed the manager to ask what was going on, and I joined shortly after. The person complaining was, of course, the same guy who had bumped into her. He was clearly drunk and started rambling about how we had made homophobic comments toward him and his friend. This was especially ridiculous considering the friend I switched places with was there with her girlfriend. We calmly explained exactly what happened. The manager did not care. There was no real attempt to hear our side, ask questions, or figure out what actually happened. The decision had clearly already been made. While we were speaking to the manager, the guy who complained was cheerfully talking with one of the bartenders, receiving a to-go meal, and greeting them cheek to cheek. He very obviously appeared to know the staff. So that seems to be how things work here: a drunk regular or friend of the staff can make up whatever story he wants, and management will throw out an entire group of paying customers without even pretending to investigate. They refunded the drinks, which was the bare minimum. The ambience was nice, but that means absolutely nothing when the staff handles customers this poorly. Awful management, blatant favoritism, and easily the worst service I have ever experienced. I would never come back, and I would strongly warn anyone who isn't already friends with the staff to stay away.

My party ordered a whiskey flight, the sojiros sprotini, the trash panda, and the ube cocktail. All had very unique flavors. Will be returning to try more drinks on the menu! I highly recommend reservations, especially on Friday evenings and weekends. I tried walking-in on a Friday night and was turned away because of how busy it was. Also - do not try to open the door yourself manually... My party was berated for doing so, oops.

This one is long overdue--not that they need my review, because by now everyone already knows how amazing this place is. What keeps me coming back is the combination of great music, an energetic vibe, outstanding service, and some of the most creative cocktails you'll find anywhere. Tonight was girls' night out, so we decided to order the prettier, and sweeter cocktails. But don't let the sweet flavors fool you--they are definitely generous with the alcohol. These drinks may taste dangerously easy to sip, but they pack a punch! I don't even remember the names of the cocktails we ordered, but honestly, that doesn't matter because the menu changes so often. And that's one of the things I love most about Music Bar. Every visit brings something new, fresh, and exciting to try. Both of my drinks were absolutely delicious, with the perfect balance of sweet and savory flavors. I honestly don't know how the bartenders come up with these combinations, but kudos to the team for constantly pushing their creativity while still making every cocktail incredibly well balanced. Whether you're a first-time visitor or a regular, Music Bar never disappoints. I'll definitely keep coming back to see what new creations they come up with next. Cheers to one of my favorite cocktail spots in San Diego!

Speakers and vinyls line the walls. Vibes are more elevated here than at your usual bar. I ordered the Nickel Fortune, which came out with a fun tarot card. It was a savory drink with a nice lingering of sesame oil after each sip. Seating is pretty limited inside, so reservations are recommended. CMB's website states that "cocktail attire is celebrated."

Items such as scrupulously prepared meatballs, fried polenta, spaghetti with mushroom sauce, etc., from the prior next-door, connected purveyor "Soda and Swine"...but those days are done ...I digress. And where is Soda and Swine's Yelp page? I know I did a review, but now the page appears gone completely in search? Nah, it's just hidden, presumably to accommodate Fortunate Sons, which opened about a year ago after re-construction of both establishments. I'm too lazy to see if still owned by Consortium Group. I did search my reviews and found my updated Soda & Swine review dated 8 & 10 years ago. O_o !! Now, food is still served, however, there's a new name in town called "Fortunate Son" (next door, connected). Apparently, food now served is Asian-inspired. I've not visited recently to taste. The North Park area is a great neighborhood with many different types of food close by. While you're there, don't forget to stop by "An's Dry Cleaners", where the most inventive gelato's, ice creams and sorbets come from.

Definitely make a reservation in advance through OpenTable because they fill up pretty quickly. There is also a deposit required, which you can lose if you no-show or cancel within 24 hours, but the deposit is refunded once you arrive for your reservation. When you arrive, a hostess greets you at the entrance. There's a small waiting area where you can sit until they come get you. Then there's a door where you press a button, and it opens to bring you into the restaurant/bar. Inside, there's a mix of tables and bar seating, and they serve food in addition to having an extensive cocktail menu. The drink menu was definitely the highlight for me. There were so many creative and unique cocktails that really stood out. I'm usually not a huge cocktail person because I don't like overly sweet drinks, and it can be surprisingly difficult to find cocktails that are both original and sophisticated enough to actually sip and enjoy. They definitely nailed that here. I tried several: *Kasato Maru: This was so smooth and absolutely delicious. By far my favorite. You could really pick up the St. Germain elderflower and pear, and the flavors worked beautifully together. Definitely one of my favorites. *Sunomono: This was more liquor-forward, but still incredibly smooth. Definitely a good choice if you want something that lets the spirits shine. *Je Ju: Unfortunately, this one wasn't for me. It had a really unusual flavor that just didn't work with my palate, and my friend wasn't a fan either. I'm usually not one to send a drink back, but the staff was fantastic about it. They happily took it back and made me a completely different cocktail. *Softly Spoken: My friend ordered this one, and it came in a glass filled with small ice cubes. I tried it and thought it was really good, but it wasn't quite my personal preference. It definitely had more of a fruity flavor profile. The food looked absolutely amazing although we didn't eat here this time. There are still so many cocktails on the menu that I want to try so I'll definitely need to come back. The atmosphere is dimly lit, intimate, and full of character. It has that cool, moody feel that makes you want to sit back, sip a cocktail, and stay awhile. And the service was phenomenal from start to finish. Overall, this was such a fun experience. Great atmosphere, creative cocktails, excellent service, and plenty more on the menu I still want to try. I can't wait to come back!
