The wings were good, and the fish & chips were decent, but my daughter loved them! The Cobb salad and chili were both just okay. The Fruity Pebbles shake and cinnamon toast crunch shake was REALLY good! Overall, I'd come back for the vibe and experience more than the food. We were hosting some friends from out of state for her son's birthday and decided to go to Corvette Diner. We were seated quickly which was a wonderful thing considering we had 3 kids with us. Our server was Frenchie and she was great. Our food was surprisingly hot. Our first notice to the oddness of the night was the balloon guy. Throughout the night we noticed the servers would form groups of 5 plus to sing birthday songs for the birthday kids. When it came to our turn, we had only 2 servers show up to sing for us. Frenchie even yelled out for help with no one coming to help out with making this evening special for us. One guy came by but quickly made a left to go into another area. Our little guy didn't notice because Frenchie made him feel special. As we sat there questioning what just happened, we noticed that 4 tables down someone was getting sung to. Guess how many were there singing? A minimum of 5 servers. We also noticed that we were not offered the birthday hats that that same party received. We asked to speak with a manager regarding what just happened. Ricky made excuses for what we observed and how we felt regarding what happened. My wife got upset at him minimizing our experience. When he noticed her tone change, he changed accordingly. He recommended we speak with the GM. We paid $200 for our meal and nowhere in that amount did we ask that we be looked over and go unnoticed. From where we sat, I was able to see the majority of the area. I don't know if there is a moral to this story or a silver lining but this experience ruined our evening and a little boy's 7th birthday. Had burgers, hotdogs, pasta. The problem was the service SLOW and infrequent. After 10 minutes the servers asked for our order. We needed 1 minute and 15 minutes later she returned. It took 30 minutes to get our food. We ate; 50 minutes after receiving our order we were offered boxes but not the check. We also had spotted a balloon artist. I flagged down our sever to get the check and asked if the ballon lady could visit. We were told another table was ahead of us. I was not aware we had to reserve her. We were not offered to split the check or do Apple Pay. I was ready to scream and run out of the place but my kids who at this point were completely overstimulated were holding out for the ballon artists. She came and made three amazing creations. But frankly could have been more basic and kids would have been happy and we could leave. We finally left 2.5 hours after we arrived. I have never spent that long at dinner with my kids and never want to again. Everyone in our party was tired and cranky after the meal. The last time I went to corvette diner it was in Hillcrest. It's located at Liberty Station, which is, what seems to be a historical park. So there's a giant shopping area, several restaurants, people playing croquet, and much more. We were able to find parking and it's free. Even during the holiday season and it being a tad crowded, we had no issue. The cafe is extremely well themed and there is so much to look at in here! Service was super welcoming and our waitress had a such a great extroverted, entertaining personality. I didn't get her name but if she ever wanted to be a maid at a maid cafe, she'd be one of the top favorites for sure, she was so fun and personable! We had straws tossed at us, silly jokes, there were cards in the ceiling, there was a live radio station DJ right next to our booth. It was awesome! This place is so FUN! It's very retro 50's-60's themed with each section and room having completely different themes as well? Super cool. There was one that looked like you were in a moving train car, one where it was neon and hippy themed, etc. Lots of photo opportunities and I recommend, maybe when waiting for your food just walk around and take a gander. Portions were MASSIVE. I thought I was going to be able to share an appetizer sampler (Garbage Plate) with everyone but everyone ended up ordering their own entrees making a huge massive amount of food that had to be taken home in like 4-5 to go boxes. So keep in mind your portions are gonna be larger than life. All of the food is very classic American fast food diner fare. You got your burgers, fries, sandwiches, and of course milkshakes. I also had to get an outrageous milk shake here and it was the chocolate chip brownie decadence which wasn't horribly sweet as I'd imagine and it's not as daunting as something you'd get from Black Tap. Easy to take to go too and not too thick and coagulated. For my regular drink, I got the Green River which is a nice green soda with lots of cherries on top. They also had seasonal cocktail drinks too, which is always fun. There's an arcade off to the side, you get complimentary food server hats, and even though the penny press machine gave me something off center and silly they let me have another one for free with their own coinage. It's fun to see what all the team members here are wearing, and the restaurant has a lot going on to look at. We ordered a peppermint shake + a chicken polka penne (cajun seasoned chicken) for dinner. It comes with a side salad with your choice of dressing. The shake + dinner was delicious! Food was quick to come out and I was dining with one other person and we were sharing, and they were kind enough to split our shake and bring out extra plates for the salad & pasta without us asking. Once our order was placed, the food arrived relatively quickly. *Route 66 Roast Beef: an unusual combination of sliced sourdough topped with mashed potatoes, roast beef, and gravy. The bread became completely soaked, creating a rather heavy carbohydrate on carbohydrate dish. The mashed potatoes were easily the most flavorful component. Unfortunately, the gravy was doing most of the work, as the roast beef itself was quite overcooked. *Side Salad: included with my platter. The vegetables lacked both freshness and crispness so I was unable to finish it. *Butter Hop Scotch: I appreciated that the shake was served with the extra metal mixing cup on the side. The flavor was rich, buttery, and indulgent. I would have preferred a stronger malt presence, but it was still enjoyable and easily large enough to share. Ultimately, this felt more like a destination for families with young children than for those looking for a relaxing meal. The constant music, performances, and overall noise level made it difficult to enjoy the dining experience, and our server had little opportunity to check in on us. Management actually reached out to me after my Yelp review. They sent a very polished, very corporate message asking a few questions, so I replied with real answers. And then... nothing.. vapor. They ghosted the conversation they started! It felt less like customer service and more like I accidentally responded to an unplugged chat bot. I've been coming to Corvette since the Hillcrest days, back when the place had personality, it felt like they cared about their regulars. Menu prices are misleading as they now tack on a 5% hidden fee on the entire check! Even the game cards get the "inflation" fee tacked on.. which is wild. Now it feels like they're monetizing every possible interaction. Want a photo $$$$? Want a balloon animal$$$? Add in the shrinking hours and declining overall food quality, and it feels like they're coasting on nostalgia instead of earning it. I'm not rooting against them. I'd love to see the heart come back. But right now it's like watching an old friend who can't quite remember how to be themselves.. and takes your presence as a given. I may treat my kids to a birthday celebration there... but the days of dropping in mid week for a bite will be done at a smaller neighborhood joint. They set us in an area with like a black light type of thing really took me back to the older days but also if you have a little flashlight or you can even use your Cell Phone flash and if you aim it at the table the kids get a kick out of that they have so much fun. For food I ordered the Chicken Polka Pasta and it was so good! The chicken was tender and juicy and the pasta had a sauce I wish I had the recipe for. My Girlfriend got the Grubbys Fish & Chips and tore that up as much as she can until she got full! The servings for everything are more than enough for anyone. My son order the B.L.A.S.T. Burger which has bacon, lettuce, guacamole, swiss, turkey, tomato & mayo on toasted sourdough and he too tore that up! My daughter and stepson got the chicken strips and fries and they both loved it and ate it all! Coming here adults will pay anywhere from 15-25 for a plate but please don't let that deter you from this place the service and the amount of food will take the edge off the price. Fish and chips: three decent sized pieces of fish that were not too heavy on the batter. Tartar dipping sauce was really good, on the salty side which I like! Super fun environment, especially for families. We visited during our last trip to San Diego to celebrate our daughter's fourth birthday, and clearly we weren't the only ones... this spot is made for parties and kid celebrations. We had a bit of a wait for our table, but it didn't feel long because there's a full arcade just steps away. The restaurant will text you when your table is ready, so we got to enjoy some arcade fun before (and after) the meal. The dining experience was a blast. Our servers were all in character, singing, dancing, and keeping the energy high, while still being super friendly and attentive. The food was meh but that doesn't seem to be the point. This place is crazy! Half of it is 50s diner and the other half is an arcade. Ok, really...half of the diner is lit by blacklights and has the posters to go with accordingly. Even the table glows in the dark! Anyway, the food is way better than diner fare are you can get anything from a bowl of chili to salmon alfredo. Which is exactly what my family did. Wife loved her pasta and the kids ate the chili like it was their last meal ever. So, that's a win. The milkshakes were good. We got the orange creamsicle and the Elvis.
