One of our favorite weekly spots for dinner. Always amazing food and drinks, fantastic staff. This is a big family/local bar kitchen for our neighborhood. We're sitting at the bar as usual, they know our drink preferences! Soccer and baseball on the tvs. And then it was time for hockey. 2 screens of hockey 2 screens of soccer over the bar. And THEN one screen flipped from hockey to the freaking UFC fight at the White House. I had to put my hand up to cover the screen showing highlights of previous fights while trying to eat my dinner. I told the bartender I didn't want to see guys beating each other in the head while eating my dinner. He said we don't normally have fights on but the owner requested it. I mentioned that there are children sitting right behind me. We asked for the check and a box for the rest of my meal. So disappointed. Do better Luce's. read more

Luce Bar & Kitchen is one of my favorite spots whenever I'm visiting my cousin in San Diego. Since it's close to his house, we end up coming here almost every trip. The food is consistently excellent. The Honey Pie Pizza is a must, the Luce Burger is always on point, the Fried Chicken Piccata Sandwich is packed with flavor, and the Tuna Crab Melt is another favorite. You really can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is always friendly, attentive, and makes you feel welcome from the moment you walk in. I was near the area getting my hair done and I always pass by Luce so I wanted to check it out this time and it had great reviews so I decided to check it out. I was able to get a table for myself in the patio to also watch a World Cup game. I ordered the crab tuna melt which came with fries. I really liked it. Unfortunately, this was a very disappointing experience. After taking my first bite of my burger, I found a black hair in the patty. I immediately let our waiter know. He took the burger back to be remade, but never apologized for what happened. The replacement took so long that my boyfriend had already finished his meal by the time it came out. At that point, I had completely lost my appetite and didn't even touch the new burger. What was most frustrating was that we were still charged for it. When I asked why, the waiter simply said it was because they had remade the burger. I understand mistakes happen, but finding a hair in your food, waiting a long time for a replacement, receiving no apology, and then still being charged for a meal I couldn't even eat made for a very poor experience. Unfortunately, because of how this situation was handled, I won't be returning. read more

Woahhh!! Was not expecting such an amazing pizza to come out of this restaurant. The Honey Pie was one of the best pizzas we've ever had and is what we now compare all pizzas places too. Started off with the chefs pizza ($25). The crust was really good, it was also really cheesy if you like a lot of cheese. The figs weren't overpowering and neither was the balsamic drizzle. I was worried it would be too sweet but it wasn't. The pistachios didn't do anything much. They weren't crunchy at all so didn't add to the texture of the pizza. The pizza crust was nice and light and crunchy. I also had the BLAT sandwich. The sourdough bread was SO GOOD. Of course so was the bacon which was tasty, but the bread with the guacamole spread really made this sandwich. The fries were very good too. Husband had the fried chicken picatta sandwich and it was a very large piece of chicken sticking out of the flaky focaccia bread! All the food was delicious and the service was quick! Met some friends and had a nice dinner. We shared the cauliflower, fries and fried shrimp appetizers. And we had the cheeseburger pizza and the margarita pizza. The ladies enjoyed the cauliflower, I feel like it was just middle of the road. Cheeseburger pizza had too many pickles and not enough ground beef. Fries were the highlight. Nice crunch, but not too well done. It's loud inside and tables are pretty close together so you battle their conversations as well. Street parking only, can be a few blocks of walking. read more

Thanks to my Clairemont-native coworker for hyping this place up--the hype is real. Located on the same street as Siesels Meat & Deli, Baci's, and Bay Park Fish Co., Luce's has a great tavern-like atmosphere. There is ample seating and even a back patio area with a bunch of a heated lamps, "fire pit" table side and a beautifully painted mural. I ordered the Honey Pie ($25) sopressatta+pepperoni+burrata+calabrese hot honey+mozzarella+red sauce. 10/10!!! The quality of meat & cheeses are great, and the "hot honey" is surprisingly not too spicy. It has a little kick but the sweetness of the honey rounds out the flavor. Job well done, Luce's! After a day on the water fishing we came here on Sunday evening and caught the last quarter of Sunday Night Football. It was pretty packed but we sat down immediately and had a spot to see the multiple tv screens. Fells like a pub bar with good food. We started with the house fries that came out pretty quickly. We were devouring it. Then came the Pisano pizza, the lamb tacos, and salmon tacos. The Pisano was good with the sausage and the tasty portobello mushrooms. I had been wanting to check out Luce for quite some time, as I have been to several other businesses nearby. Recently, a friend and I met for dinner on a weeknight. We met around 6:30 and the place was packed, but there were a few open tables. We checked in and they asked us to take our table of choice. Anyway, we sat down. Despite the crowd, the table was spacious, though it was slightly loud and it took a few minutes for us to get acclimated to the atmosphere in order to be able to have a conversation. Luce is not a fancy place at all, but they have some of the best service around. They checked on us several times throughout, but in a very unobtrusive fashion. Throughout our dinner, our water glasses were never empty, and they came readily to check on our wine. The menu looked amazing. I had several options in mind. I saw some of the amazing looking salads being passed to the other tables, and was happy to be able to order my crab and tuna melt with a side salad. My friend enjoyed her salmon with a side salad as well. I had the opportunity to taste her Salomon and it was amazing They had a great wine list, and I had several options in mind. Both of us tried a couple different wines. All in all, we had a great meal with attentive service at Luce. I would like to go more often, and I am definitely interested in the happy hour offerings. read more

We were automatically charged a 20% gratuity for a "large party" of 6, even though 2 of those guests were 2-year-old children who slept through the entire dinner. The server never addressed our babies or provided anything for them, which makes sense since they were sleeping--but counting them toward a large-party gratuity felt unreasonable. As we entered the front door, we were quickly greeted instructed to sit anywhere we'd like. The bartender came to give us waters and menus to look over. They have this housemade aioli garlic dipping sauce is DELICIOUS!!! Warning! It is very garlicky!! I loved it!!! Our service was on point. The place is industrial yet a sports bar. It looks like a ton of regulars. The bathrooms were clean. They do have a small parking lot in back or street parking! We came back a second time in one week. My pizza was excellent. A little oily. The plate comes with and option of fries or salad, go with the salad! It is delicious. The vinaigrette is just enough where it doesn't overpower the salad. Each bite was packed with flavor, making it one of the best pizzas I've had in years. Although the crust could have been crunchier, it didn't detract from the overall delight. My husband's meatball sandwich was also a highlight, featuring lamb and pork meatballs, spicy marinara, and mozzarella on an Italian roll - and he was pleased to find it wasn't too spicy. The casual vibe and outdoor seating added to the experience, all while enjoying upscale flavors without breaking the bank.
