We enjoyed our food here and it has a very open concept for seating with lots of fresh air. Food is very good. We really enjoyed the pizza and French toast.

Large upscale indoor gastropub. Quite a variety of food on the menu and strong brunch offerings. Lots of TVs to watch sports. I had a breakfast burrito and it was solid, but nothing extraordinary. Popular place!

A proper pour of delicious wine, perfectly cooked mouthwatering French fries, a gorgeous ample beet salad and a wonderful white pizza. Who could ask for more? The outdoor patio is comfortable, the service is top notch, and we can't wait to go back.

This place is a favorite local spot. The food menu remains the same most of the time and they post specials, which have never disappointed. The service is friendly and welcoming. You'll have 1st dates, friends, people and their kids. The Cucumber gimlet is tasty and has a punch

Thanks to my Clairemont-native coworker for hyping this place up--the hype is real. Located on the same street as Siesels Meat & Deli, Baci's, and Bay Park Fish Co., Luce's has a great tavern-like atmosphere. There is ample seating and even a back patio area with a bunch of a heated lamps, "fire pit" table side and a beautifully painted mural. I ordered the Honey Pie ($25) sopressatta+pepperoni+burrata+calabrese hot honey+mozzarella+red sauce. 10/10!!! The quality of meat & cheeses are great, and the "hot honey" is surprisingly not too spicy. It has a little kick but the sweetness of the honey rounds out the flavor. Job well done, Luce's! Can't wait to come back to try more menu items.

I love this place. Genuinely everything on the menu is good. I also got their kombucha and it was delicious! The vibes at the fire pit are immaculate and service is good and pretty quick. I would recommend the honey pie, it's DELISH!

After a day on the water fishing we came here on Sunday evening and caught the last quarter of Sunday Night Football. It was pretty packed but we sat down immediately and had a spot to see the multiple tv screens. Fells like a pub bar with good food. We started with the house fries that came out pretty quickly. We were devouring it. Then came the Pisano pizza, the lamb tacos, and salmon tacos. The Pisano was good with the sausage and the tasty portobello mushrooms. The lamb tacos has a kick so be aware of that. I enjoyed the salmon tacos the most with the guacamole.

We came right at dinner time and it was fully packed. While waiting for our table, we ordered the drinks from the bar. We were able to get a table in less than 10 mins and they brought the drinks over to us. The service was great. While it was busy, our server was attentive to us. We ordered the following: 1. House cut fries 2. Roasted beet salad 3. Honey pie 4. Serrano-Rita The food and drinks were really good. Everything went well with each other. You get a sense of a neighborhood vibe. There are TVs to watch games on as well. Parking can be difficult. There is a valet option otherwise it is street parking.

I don't find myself in this part of town too often mostly because parking can be a bit of a gamble (and lately road construction seems to be a permanent resident). But when a friend's in town and staying nearby, there's one spot I never skip recommending: Luce. Lucky us, we walked in and snagged bar seats like locals who knew what they were doing. I went straight for my go-to mule, and before we knew it, we were sweet-talked into ordering some pizza (no regrets, ever). The vibe? Chill but buzzing busy bar, ice-cold drinks, and the kind of energy that makes you feel like you're ending the night on a high note. The pizza crust was light, airy, and hit our hungry bellies like a warm hug. With summer in full swing, the open windows and breezy patio setup let the warm air drift in like nature's own ambiance. It was the perfect farewell to my friend's vacation--and once again, Luce, you never disappoint.

I had been wanting to check out Luce for quite some time, as I have been to several other businesses nearby. Recently, a friend and I met for dinner on a weeknight. We met around 6:30 and the place was packed, but there were a few open tables. We checked in and they asked us to take our table of choice. Anyway, we sat down. Despite the crowd, the table was spacious, though it was slightly loud and it took a few minutes for us to get acclimated to the atmosphere in order to be able to have a conversation. Luce is not a fancy place at all, but they have some of the best service around. They checked on us several times throughout, but in a very unobtrusive fashion. Throughout our dinner, our water glasses were never empty, and they came readily to check on our wine. The menu looked amazing. I had several options in mind. I saw some of the amazing looking salads being passed to the other tables, and was happy to be able to order my crab and tuna melt with a side salad. My friend enjoyed her salmon with a side salad as well. I had the opportunity to taste her Salomon and it was amazing They had a great wine list, and I had several options in mind. Both of us tried a couple different wines. All in all, we had a great meal with attentive service at Luce. I would like to go more often, and I am definitely interested in the happy hour offerings.

The food is good, which is why I came back and brought new friends. Unfortunately, this visit was disappointing. We were automatically charged a 20% gratuity for a "large party" of 6, even though 2 of those guests were 2-year-old children who slept through the entire dinner. The server never addressed our babies or provided anything for them, which makes sense since they were sleeping--but counting them toward a large-party gratuity felt unreasonable. There was also no explanation or heads-up about the charge. Because of this experience, I won't be returning.

I told my friend the food was worth the wait. After an hour we got sat at the bar and our first server was friendly. There was a transition of servers (not sure if he left for the day or went on lunch) and the new server would check on everyone at the bar except us. My water remained empty for most of the meal. The bartenders in front of us were clearly having a conversation and I didn't want to interrupt. My friend claimed her Irish coffee was sour? And didn't realize cheese came on a side of eggs (she should've checked when she ordered but the server never clarified either). We weren't checked on during the meal until the bill came and by then we just wanted to leave. I ordered the fluffy pancakes and found an egg shell inside. The cracking of eggshells in my mouth made me loose my appetite. We paid (still tipped of course) and left. It was great the first time and mediocre the second time. I prefer consistently in service, especially if I'm waiting an hour to be seated.

We had spent most of the day around Bankers Hill and decided to grab an early dinner at Books & Records. Getting reservations was easy, but from the moment we walked in, the ambiance alone already had us sold. The place was still pretty quiet when we arrived, and to our surprise it was happy hour, so naturally we ordered a bunch of items off the menu along with drinks. Everything was ridiculously good. Not one miss. What really stood out though was the attention to detail. The host brought us a complimentary glass of champagne after hearing we were celebrating our anniversary. Small gesture, big impact. Stuff like that matters. As the night went on, the restaurant filled up, live music started playing, and the whole atmosphere just came alive. Our waiter never rushed us once, which made the experience feel even more intentional and relaxed. We were able to actually enjoy the moment instead of feeling pushed through dinner service. Good food is one thing. Great hospitality is another. This place gave us both. Next time we're in San Diego, we're absolutely making it a point to come back. Lovely spot. Lovely experience.

Cramped and loud, but nicely decorated and serving solid authentic meals. Mexican Latte-9/10: Pretty straightforward. A solid, nostalgic spiced coffee. Mazapan Latte-10/10: A novelty menu item, both nostalgic and tasty. With a sweetened condensed milk rim and mazapan dust, this sweet coffee is a must order. Chilaquiles-10/10: Cocina 35 knows how to throw down the best Mexican breakfast item: the chilaquiles. The Verde was good but didn't pack much heat. The Salsa Secreta was our favorite; a creamy 3-chile salsa with an artichoke flavor, this one packs an enjoyable amount of heat. The Chipotle was another yummy and creamy option, making your nose run but still very enjoyable. Frijoles Puercos-7/10: They were pretty standard. I've definitely had better. They served their purpose as a good side. Concha Rellena-7.5/10: Another creative menu item. Whipped cream and whole strawberries sandwiched between two french toast-style concha halves and drenched in cajeta. It was sweet and warm, but would've been more enjoyable with fresher and/or sliced strawberries. Fun to order, but a regular concha is better suited for enjoying with your coffee. Service-6/10: Again, Cocina 35 gets packed, so service isn't as attentive. Our party had to order and wait for water, ask for refills, call the server over for more orders and again for the bill, and wouldn't speak to us in Spanish. I witnessed other tables be spoken to in Spanish, but upon ordering I'd only be responded to in English. I know I'm a white Mexican, but native tongue is nice when I make it clear I'd like to order in Spanish. Overall, a fun spot with solid menu items. The samplers are pricey but probably the best bang for your buck. They do the classics very well, and are very much worth your visit!
