Our Anniversary was a work day for us. So we treated ourselves to a nice quiet Tuesday night at The Remy in Mission Valley. What a great choice! And what a surprise to find the place booming with customers, the parking lot was so full we had to park on the street. What a great feeling you get when you drive off a busy freeway and enter this hidden lush area that looks like something out of Lord Rings Shire. As you enter the place itvgives off a classy whiff of elegant splendor. Nothing over the top just a very nice place for a grand evening or just a cocktail before you get home. We chose the bar area because we like to talk to people and not wait too long for service. Our bartender was Grant a newbie at The Remy. Very nice and attentive. He gave us details about the food preparation and cocktails. We ordered our cocktails and they were perfect. I ordered an Old Fashion from their well and it was great so I had two. We couldn't decide on a light dinner to have so we split a plate of Lamb Chops. Perfect choice they were brought out in two seperate plates with a generous portion of Asparagus and Mashed potatoes on each plate along with two perfectly cooked Lamb Chops. I will post that picture. Everything was spot on. My wife enjoyed the evening and that is what mattered most. The finale was when they brought out a dessert of Italian Gelato with a Sparkler on it. We came for the happy hour. The smash burger is tasty, the meat was the mastermind and star for sure. Now on to the cocktails. Every place has a spin or take on a classic drink or dish. I was very interested in their take on the dirty martini. When I am at steak restaurant , this is my go to first impression. Here, the martini is made with an artichoke brine, which would have paired well with a Bloody Mary or maybe a vinaigrette, I quickly switched to something else. We ended with a dessert but sadly the burnt caramel butter was undercooked and more crystallized sugar than a silky caramel finish. Sadly didn't meet my expectations. We dined on the patio. The restaurant itself is very lovely with an old western theme/vibe. It is dimly lit, with dimmable lamps on the tables to increase your brightness if you'd like. The bathrooms were thoughtfully designed - with hooks for your bag, and a place to set your phone down. I liked that they were quite a few of the private stalls. We came here for a birthday celebration, so we ordered quite a few items off the menu. We started with a few orders of the bread service. The bread was baked and salted perfectly. The butter that came with it paired really well with it. My daughter and I loved this one a lot. We had a few orders of 3 salads. The two I got to try were the Cesar salad, and the wedge salad. I was surprised that I liked the wedge salad more than the Cesar. I think we all liked the wedge salad over the Cesar. The Cesar just had an overpowering fishy anchovy/sour taste that we couldn't get past. And we have had plenty of Cesar salads before. We had the A5 Wagyu potato balls and those were pretty good. Although I don't think I would care to order them again if I were to come back. The Mac & cheese was delicious and loved by everyone at the table. The lobster Mac and cheese was also delicious, but a very different taste from the regular Mac & cheese (in case you were thinking it tasted the same). The lobster Mac & cheese had some kind of Cajun seasoning mix in it. Also delicious, but different. Our main entree we had a few orders of the porterhouse, bone in ribeyes, and some lobster tails. Looking at the menu, I mentioned to my boyfriend that it was funny they don't have mashed potatoes on their menu. He agreed, but said they did have a baked potato. When our steaks came out, we were surprised that they brought out a few orders of mashed potatoes and green beans along with our porterhouse steaks. We were confused and were told that those sides come with our steaks. A little disappointed that our server didn't mention that. It would've definitely helped us from over ordering some extra sides. I've always passed by this place and finally tried it out. My colleague told us about it and said they have a great happy hour which they do! Happy hour is from 2:30pm to 5pm Monday through Friday and 3pm-5pm on weekends. We tried all of the happy hour food items except for the Wagyu steak frites and shrimp cocktail. The Caesar salad is excellent and easily enough for two people to share. I also enjoyed the truffle fries and smoked marlin tostadas. My friend ordered the Wagyu smashburger and she really enjoyed it. I ordered the shrimp and Wagyu filet medallions. I thought it was odd the server didn't ask me how I like my steak and unfortunately I thought it was overcooked, as well as the shrimp. It was still edible and had good flavor especially because of the chimichurri sauce but it wasn't my favorite. Maybe I just got a one off. It's still a good happy hour deal for $22. My friends ordered from the regular dinner menu and their steaks looked delicious and they said it was tender. We also ordered the crispy octopus but I prefer my octopus grilled since the crispiness made it a little too hard and tough but the sauce it was paired with was quite tasty! Their cocktails are also fantastic and only $10 each during happy hour. Our server recommended the Son of the Bee-sting since I like gin and it was refreshing and had a good ginger flavor. The avocado helped balance out the sauce and the cracker it came with brought everything together perfectly. Remy Salad - My favorite burrata salad! The delicious vinaigrette paired perfectly with all the ingredients. The summer peaches and burrata were heavenly together, especially with the added crunch of the candied pecans. (I licked the plate clean with both these dishes) Halibut - This was some of the freshest-cooked white fish I've ever had, with a beautifully seared crust on top. The fried, crispy cauliflower added a great texture, while the sauce complemented the fish perfectly. Savory, clean, and delicious. Lobster Mac and Cheese - My boyfriend said the lobster tasted great. He wished the mac and cheese was a thicker sauce, but overall, it had a rich and delicious flavor. Cornbread - These tasted very similar to Texas Roadhouse rolls with their cinnamon butter spread was fluffy, sweet, warm, and delicious. Drinks: I'm not much of an alcoholic drinker, but since it was my birthday dinner, I wanted to let loose and enjoy a cocktail. I booked a reservation for two to celebrate my birthday and was genuinely excited to finally try this place. My husband had previously visited during a work event and spoke highly of the atmosphere, so my expectations were definitely high. We started with oysters, bone marrow, grilled octopus, and tuna sashimi, then decided to splurge on the tomahawk steak. Unfortunately, while everything was prepared well enough, most of the dishes felt under-seasoned and lacked flavor. Nothing really stood out as memorable from the food itself. The one exception was my cocktail--something with matcha and strawberry purée--which was absolutely delicious and ended up being the highlight of the meal. The seating arrangement also left a lot to be desired. The tables are packed very closely together, making the dining experience feel cramped. Our table was situated between two booth-style benches that were noticeably different heights and much lower than the chair my husband was seated in across from me, which made things feel awkward and uncomfortable throughout dinner. Came here for happy hour (Mon-Fri 2:30-5:00, Weekends 3-5) They have GREAT happy hour specials. I got the Wagyu Smash burger, it came with a 2 wagyu patties, american cheese, caramelized onions, sauce, pickles, and fries. The burger was really juicy and the caramelized onions were a perfect match to the burger. The fries seemed cut in house and freshly fried. At $11 i thought that was a really good deal. They also asked if i wanted some aioli to go with the fries which i thought was a great addition, i used it both on the buger and dipped some of the fries in. I also got a cocktail, Son of a bee-sting ($10 HH) it was made with gin, lemon, honey and ginger. It was quite spicy from the ginger, which i like so if you like the spice of ginger definitely get this one! If you like sweet i really like the Frankie Wallbanger, taste like a jolly rancher! Theres a game room with a pool table and shuffle board if you head out the back exit on the main floor past the bar. There's also an upstairs and downstairs if you want to rent out a private room, ive been in both. The down stairs has its own bar but is smaller, the upstairs holds more people but if you don't have enough to take up the whole space you may find yourself sharing the space with another party. I grew up in San Diego so to me this location was always the Hunter Steakhouse, but I was happy to see that after that closed the The Remy took its place and I would say that it is a more upscale improvement to compared to the chain. It's located right off of the 8 Freeway very close to Old Town and Downtown San Diego. They have a medium size parking lot attached otherwise free street parking is also easy to find. Inside is quite large and comes with a giant bar that was very lively during our visit. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out pretty fast. I started off with the Wagyu Beef Tartare, and thought it was pretty nice although it wasn't my favorite version that I've had recently. I wish it would've had more of a mustard or enhanced flavor to it so I don't think I would order that again on future visits. For my entrée, I chose the Wagyu Filet Mignon and got a side of Bone Marrow and thought both were really great. The steak was cooked perfectly and the Bone Marrow was not very large, but it had great flavor to it. It was actually just one half of the bone so it is more of a side. It's such a wonderfully, intimate restaurant. We went for a birthday date and were sat in the lower level (?) which is quieter than the main area you see when you walk in. It felt fancy but also casual at the same time, a great spot for date night. The service was unremarkable. We were checked on adequately I would say. We were able to talk without being interrupted often and the timing of the drinks, appetizer and main meal was appropriate for the kind of night we wanted. The food was amazing. I ordered the lamb chops and they were cooked to perfection and for the first time I was able to taste the difference. The menu claims its Australian lamb and it did taste much gamier than other lamb that I have had but definitely not in a bad way. I wanted to add a lobster tail but when I ordered the lobster mac and cheese, the server was kind enough to mention that the mac would come with a full tail so that helped me decide. Overall, I would go again. Again, great for date night but also if you want to have nice evening with a small group of friends but you're tired of going to chain steak restaurants. Visited The Remy recently for a friends birthday dinner and overall had a great experience. Failed to get photos of all the food we had but managed to get one of the Skirt Steak I ordered. The meat was cooked just perfect and it was very soft and tender. The plate was served with a side of vegetables and mashed potatoes, both really good as well. The overall vibe of the restaurant was also really nice and cozy, kind of felt like a cabin in the snow. Tried a mocktail that night which was the Hanky Wallbanger and it was also very good, sweet but refreshing. Also tried the Mac and Cheese which was very tasty. Upon entering the establishment you can see the attention to detail they have done to remodel this restaurant. It's like a cool cowboy decor and not tacky, or normal steak house. Terrible parking, the street had a few spots luckily. The food was underwhelming. Wedge Salad 5/5 - great crisp salad, loved the crispy shallots. Scallops 2/5 - Rubbery, fishy, not a fan with the flavors that accompanied the dish. Wagyu Ribeye 3/5 - The cook was fine, I did like that it came with green beans (al dente) and mashed potatoes (flavorless). The steak itself didn't have much flavor, I asked for horseradish on the side to help. Crispy Brussels Sprouts 2/5 - the definitely were NOT crispy. Pleasantly surprised by their steak and would give that a 4/5 and the rest of their food closer to 3.5/5. We went for the happy hour to try out their food. I would recommend the steak frites; steak was tender and perfectly cooked to medium well, fries were my favorite type (i like them limp so if you like them crispy, you might not enjoy these), but salad was heavily overdressed. Filet medallions with mashed potatoes was a laughably small portion that was equivalent to one kebab but was tender. The steak from the steak frites and the filet medallions were pretty much equally tender. Wagyu smashburger was average but a pretty good deal for $11. Caesar salad was also a very small portion for $9; know that it is not a traditional caesar and has more lemon in it. Staff were nice and constantly checked in on us to see how we were doing (maybe a little too much but it was fine). I loved their decor and the ambiance was nice. They have a parking lot, and while it isn't the biggest lot, you should have no trouble finding parking. Looks like there is enough street parking for overflow. read more

We finally made it to The Remy for New Year's dinner and it did not disappoint. I've always wanted to try this restaurant , and getting reservations online was super easy. They do have their own parking lot, but it fills up fast, luckily there's plenty of street parking nearby. We were seated early, which was a nice surprise, and the restaurant is much bigger than I expected with both lower and upper levels. The vibe was lively but still felt upscale and comfortable. We started with the shrimp cocktail and mussels, both were soooo good. Fresh, flavorful, and dishes we'd absolutely order again. For our mains, we tried the wagyu filet and wagyu ribeye. Both came with mashed potatoes and green beans, and everything was cooked perfectly. We also added a side of cornbread, which was super moist and delicious. Honestly, not a bad dish in sight. Service was great from start to finish, and the chef even came out to check on how we were enjoying everything...a really nice touch. Overall, The Remy delivered on food, service, and experience. The spot is definitely a hidden gem! My boyfriend took me here for our anniversary dinner. We came mid November and the restaurant was decorated with Christmas decor. I LOVED IT. We made reservations for a Monday night at 5:15p, but it wasn't that busy when we got there. We ordered a Caesar salad and a large bacon mac n cheese for apps. I am still thinking about them a week later. My boyfriend got the wagyu ribeye and I got the way ny strip. Might have been a mistake because it was so much food, but everything was delicious! Our server was friendly and very tentative to our table! Overall experience was great. Definitely come hungry, all the selections of meat were so yummy! I'm so glad I got to finally try this place. We will definitely be back to try happy hour. read more
