Came to eat with my wife in this place, staff are friendly, food is good, but I had a problem on my food, I asked for a bone marrow but inside of the bone it came with a very very little piece of marrow, like I paid $8 for nothing, just bone. I reported that to the waiter and he said he was gonna give me another one but that never happened. So I just paid the bill and left, but I wouldn't recommend anyone to ask for a bone marrow in this place. read more

This has become one of my go-to quick steak stops. I've tried several items from the menu such as : Ribeye Chicharron - very delicious! Chicharron cooked perfectly with guacamole that could use a bit more lemon and salt & some delicious tortillas Prime Ribeye - (steak medium) my usual pick * and it's very filling with the sides Tacos I've tried : The Original - delicious steak and perfect cooked steak Numero Uno- great combo of both steak and Chicharron. Octopus & Marrow- super delicious. The octopus was cooked perfectly. Not chewy or hard. Just great Baja Fish - good, but not my go to. Service is always good, they are attentive and share good perspectives on the choices they recommend. Ambiance is always fast, clean, and refreshing. My only feedback would be to have more salsa options the. The only 2 they provide. Also, I would ask instead of bringing ice in a cup for the can sodas so it's not wasted. I have become a fan and will continue to go eat there. read more

This place had potential. But my first red flag should have been when a waiter almost rammed into us with a tray full of drinks while checking in at the host stand. We were seated quickly with our reservation on the patio. Our waiter dropped off the menus and filled our waters. We ordered drinks, the tuna, and octopus. We had to flag him down to order more food. We ordered the pork belly and the prime ribeye. Our food came out, it was so so. The pork belly was the best thing. Here's where it goes downhill. As we were waiting for our ribeye, our waiter comes back to drop off a dessert menu and dashes off immediately after saying "let me know if you need anything". This dude runs off so how could we even let you know. Our drinks and waters were empty. Also, how can you drop the dessert menu when we haven't even received all our food. Then, our waiter is chattin it up with the table next to us. As he's chatting, his ass is literally going into our food and my face. I've lost my appetite at that point. We had to move the food and I had to move closer to the other table next to us. Welp. We won't be going back. What a disappointment. For a $150 dinner for 2, we expected better. read more

We showed up on time for a reservation, excited. The patio was lively, the room was filling up, and the staff greeted us and sat us quickly. That was the high point. They dropped menus that didn't match the one I'd just looked at online. Prices were higher, and this was the fourth version of the menu I'd seen, with the numbers climbing each time. The place also looked a lot smaller than the photos. Red flags, but we stayed. Water came. Then the staff disappeared. The patio stayed busy, the dining room filled in, and we watched for someone to take an order. Nobody did. Not at our table, not around the room, not at the bar. What stood out more was the tables themselves: a full house, and almost no food anywhere. Patio, bar, dining room. People sitting. Nothing coming out. We got up and left. Later reviews lined up with what we walked into: a steakhouse that looks open and booked, then can't seem to deliver whatever you ordered, asked for, or expected. Glad we got out before the check. read more

Had to wait approximately 45 mins for a party of 3 on a Friday evening. Def recommend getting a resy. Luckily it went by fast as we walked around liberty station and checked out the shops. The place is a bit small with both indoor and outdoor seating. We opted for the $95 choice family feast. Steak was juicy, seasoned perfectly and cooked medium rare as requested. It was a good amount of food and we had leftovers. Had to take away one star for the service. The service was slow, our water cups were never refilled, waiter was so hard to flag down, and we had to ask a few times. Hopefully they can improve their service as it seems like a it's a common issue across diners. read more

We stumbled upon Grandson Steakhouse by chance, and wow--this place did not disappoint! So excited that we found this gem. We started with the ceviche, which was so refreshing and a perfect way to kick off the meal. Then came the premium ribeye--juicy, beautifully marbled, and cooked so well. The sauce that came with it paired really nicely with the steak. We also ordered the scallops. They were incredibly fresh, but I was a little surprised that they were served completely raw with just salt, chili flakes, sauce, and lime. To me, it felt more like sashimi or crudo than a scallop entrée. The flavors were good and the scallops were definitely fresh, but I wish we had known beforehand. If we had, we probably would have ordered another cooked entrée to enjoy alongside the steak. We were actually on our way to a concert and in a bit of a rush, so we didn't have time to order another dish--we just finished up and rushed out. Overall, we had a great experience and will definitely be back to try more of their dishes! So happy we stumbled upon this place! read more

Hospitality at its best! While visiting beautiful San Diego, we were craving a great steak--and with so many options, we're so glad we chose Grandson Steaks. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by the staff. The atmosphere strikes the perfect balance: upscale yet relaxed and inviting for everyone. With the gorgeous weather, we opted for outdoor seating, and it was stunning. The attention to detail--from the coordinated colors of the furniture and dishware to the unique textures of the glassware and even the napkins--created a beautifully cohesive experience. This is the perfect spot for date night, a special lunch with friends, or a family outing. The owner, Roger, personally came out to greet us and offered helpful tips on navigating the menu so we could get the most out of our experience. And the food did not disappoint. The service was prompt and thoughtfully attentive. We started with the pork belly chicharrones and ceviche--both excellent. For our main, we had the Prime Family Ribeye, and it was unbelievably tender... the kind of dish that makes you want to thank the chef personally. If you're in San Diego, this place is a must-try. read more

My friend and I sat here to eat on the patio for lunch since it was a nice, sunny day out. We smelled a citrusy salad that lured us in. My friend ordered a Caesar Salad with Steak added as protein, we shared Birria Tacos since one order came with two tacos, and I ordered the citrus salad with Ahi Poke as protein and a Steak Taco. For $100 this meal was very mid and disappointing. The best thing was probably the Steak Taco with the two sauces they brought out after we asked for some type of hot sauce. I enjoyed the Citrus Salad but I didn't like the sesame oil they put on the Ahi Poke because it overpowered the delicate citrus taste. The Birria Tacos were a miss, definitely skip that. The Caesar Salad actually tasted more like Gorgonzola, it was a little stinky :/ Overall very disappointing meal for $100. I really expected more since they were charging these upscale prices. Honestly would probably not come back here again. read more

Cute, small, cozy steakhouse with a lot of potential, but unfortunately the service was pretty slow and disorganized during our visit. We had a reservation, but still waited a bit to get seated. Once we were seated, it took about 10 minutes just to get menus, and then another 15-20 minutes before anyone came over to take our drink order. Drinks took a while, and then the food took even longer. The biggest issue was that the food didn't come out together. Most of our table had already finished eating before the people who ordered steaks even received their meals. For a steakhouse, that's definitely something that should be better coordinated. What was more frustrating was that there wasn't really any communication from the staff during all the waiting. Even just checking in with the table or letting us know there was a delay would have made a big difference. I will say, I could tell this is a family-run business, and I really do want to support small local businesses. But honestly, I think they need more staff, especially servers. It seemed like the restaurant was simply understaffed, and that was affecting everything from seating to ordering to food delivery. The layout is also a little awkward with the hostess station positioned between the indoor and outdoor seating areas, which seemed to add to the confusion. I don't think the restaurant is a bad place at all -- it actually has a really nice, intimate atmosphere. But the service needs some serious attention. More staff and better coordination would make a huge difference. 3 stars for the atmosphere and potential, but the service and timing need improvement. read more

This place was actually really great for the price! The steak was perfectly cooked with plenty of great sides to choose from. I really loved the loaded mashed potatoes as they tasted just like a twice baked potato. Soooo good. Cute little spot with a relatively laid back atmosphere. All of us had a great time eating and catching up here. It was a little toasty sitting inside, so I might recommend sitting on the patio if it's available. read more

Had a wonderful dinner with my husband at Grandson's Steaks this week! The bone marrow and oyster appetizer were outstanding, and the ribeye prime rib was excellent. The spicy sauce was a pleasant surprise--even for someone who doesn't usually enjoy spicy food. I also love that it's family-owned. We came here to celebrate my husband's birthday, and I'm so glad we did! I originally wanted to try this place because they have a ribeye aguachile, and it did not disappoint. The shrimp aguachile was also super fresh and delicious. The meat was juicy and cooked perfectly, and all the salsas were so flavorful. My son ordered the burger and loved it. It was huge and really tasty! We also had the New York steak, which was delicious. But the guava cheesecake definitely stole the show. Tony took great care of us and gave us some great recommendations. Everyone was very attentive and the customer service was excellent. The restaurant itself is beautiful, relaxed, and has a great atmosphere. Definitely coming back soon to try more dishes! read more

Where to start? I debated 3 or 4 stars to account for being new and service being awkward. The food itself was 5 star. But the ambiance and the service could use some work. So let's talk about the food. The ribeye agua chile is one of the best things I have eaten this year. The sauce was bright and smoky and flavorful. The guacamole was plentiful. You are really getting your money's worth. The family feast is an excellent deal. Came with 8 quesadillas. They brought half as corn since I am gluten free. The ribeye was cooked to medium perfection. Came with beans and birria and adobada on the side. Odd but it worked. But back to the service. I know they are busy but we felt a little abandoned. But I will be back and hope the service improves. read more

Grandson Steaks opened recently in Liberty Station in Point Loma. It was steps away from several art studios in Barracks 19 where they're all located. This space was formerly held by WildFlower restaurant, which I was not a fan of and evidently everyone else thought so too because that restaurant failed and closed. The location here is fantastic however, it's just a matter of getting it right for the new restaurant... I was reluctant coming here, as my standards for quality steak is very high. I've dined at the best steak restaurants primarily in Beverly Hills: CUT, Steak 48, and Mastros. I wanted to give Grandson Steaks the benefit of doubt and decided to visit. The restaurant was practically empty, no diners inside, but a few diners outside. The outdoor patio with the umbrellas were festive. The menu is very limited; basically one page of salad, steaks and tacos. Even though it was Taco Tuesday, I passed on tacos, and chose to order the ribeye since steaks are the house's specialty. The server Jose was helpful with menu selections. I specifically asked for the steak to be medium rare and NOT overcooked. Upon presentation, the plate looked appealing but the steak looked flat thin and overcooked. I cut through the less cooked part of the steak to find it was too hard to cut through and not even pink inside as a medium rare steak should be. Feeling angry and disappointed, I summoned the server and pointed out the tragic steak prep and rejected it back to the kitchen as it was inedible. My furbaby sensed my disappointment and just wanted to leave as we did. He The server took meticulous notes of my medium rare request but the kitchen cook didn't read the notes or doesn't know what medium rare means. Too bad because, this negative dining experience left a bad first impression in terms of the food prep. Despite a nice restaurant atmosphere and nice service staff but if the kitchen can't even get my steak order correct it's not a good start for a steak restaurant. This may be my first and last visit. read more

A delicatessen in the Arts District of Liberty Station lasted less than one year and has been converted into this new casual steakhouse. Grandson Steaks was named in homage to the grandparents of the sons who own this business. Parking was available either curbside or in one of the neighboring common lots surrounding the complex of buildings. I believe they now have steady operating hours as that wasn't the case when I first tried to visit on a weeknight, only to find they had closed earlier than usual. The layout remained unchanged with a bar that could seat 10 customers to the right and then a few tables in the middle of the dining room. There were also several covered tables outside between the sidewalk and curb. Raw cuts of beef and desserts were on refrigerated display to the left where the kitchen preparation area was located. The top half of the food menu listed seven choices of tacos, three salads, and four seafood items. The bottom half displayed the three kinds of steak, a burger, sides, desserts, and non-alcoholic drinks. I ordered a Jamaica Agua Fresca after tasting a sample which wasn't too sweet. For my dinner, I selected a house cut of the Ribeye steak cooked medium rare. It came with two sides, and my picks were the Mashed Potatoes and Refried Beans. The sides were served in separate ramekins that were delivered on a round plate. An additional side of grilled onions was included. The beans were fairly standard while bacon bits were added on top of the mashed potatoes. The steak was served on a different plate that to my surprise, also contained bone marrow and two quesadillas. Those extra items were other sides that I could have chosen but did not. The kitchen was generous that evening to include the marrow and quesadillas as complimentary offerings. The steak was approximately a 16 oz serving. It was cooked well with visible grill marks. The marrow was fatty and unctuous as expected. The quesadillas contained melted cheese inside. Other than the snafu that I encountered with the business hours (unsynchronized times listed on different social media), I had a positive experience at Grandson Steaks. read more

We were at Liberty Station to try this Grandson Steak, and upon arriving, I recognized that it used to be Wildflour Delicatessen, which was here last year, in March 2025. We came here to try their Tacos, we had the RIBEYE TACO, QUESA-RIBEYE + PORKBELLY TACO, QUESA-BIRRIA TACO and OCTOPUS + MARROW, and SHRIMP BAJA COCKTAIL. All the tacos are great, good size. The Birria and the Steak are our favorites. The Birria is very tasty and Rib eye very Tender and good. The Octopus is a no for me, it's over cooked and hard. Also, I wish that the Sauce for the Tacos came out at the same time as the tacos, or the sauce was brought out first coz it's just a sauce, pour it in a container, and deliver it. We already ate 2 TACOS before they put out the sauces. Shrimp cocktail was good too. The services were great, and parking was easy. read more

Came here for dinner with a party of five on a Sunday. Newer place with a steak/Mexican vibe. Tried a few items like the grilled oysters and bone marrow which had a good ponzu sauce. Shrimp cocktail more like a ceviche, but light and delicious. Went with the $99 rib eye fest to feed my family of 4, but with 2 teenage boys it's wasn't enough so we ordered a little more, the ribeye and pork belly taco was probably the best thing we are. Cheesecake desert was better than average. Wine selection is pretty good and I like that they have some from nearby Mexico vineyards. Overall a good spot to give a try and I'll be back. Shout out to Lizbeth for her stellar service. read more

My husband, myself and another couple were looking for a dinner spot in Liberty Station on a Friday night. It was about 8:30 and we saw that it had closed at 9, but it was still pretty packed, so we decided to give it a try I guess the word I would use to describe our experience is "strange". We were greeted and seated outdoors readily. There we studied the menu, which was definitely unusual. It had some appetizers, salads, three types of steaks, and an eclectic selection of tacos, as well as a few other items. For appetizers we chose the shrimp fritters and the chips and guacamole. The chips and guacamole was a very small appetizer. We did ask for more chips, as that was needed, but it is probably really only enough for two people to share. I will say that the guacamole had a nice flavor. The shrimp fritters were not at all what I would consider fritters, but more lightly battered shrimp with a sauce. However, they also had a good flavor. Our server was nice and gave me a few white wines to taste so I could make my selection. I liked the fact that they did serve wine from Valle Guadaloupe, which I don't see in too many local restaurants. The liquor selection was quite limited, but two members of our party had cocktails that they enjoyed. It was tough to decide what to order for dinner. After reading the menu and talking to our server, it appeared that some of the taco selections came with two tacos and some of the tacos came with one. I wasn't quite sure what I wanted and how to have the right amount of food. I wanted the octopus taco, but it came with only one and if I added the shrimp tacos (two) it would have been too much food. Also, I had no interest in the marrow that came with the octopus taco. After, contemplation, I chose the shrimp and bacon tacos. I seemed odd that they came a' la carte only. My cousin had the ribeye and she stated that it was cooked to her liking. My husband enjoyed his burger, though didn't find anything notable about it. The other patrons were starting to leave. I had asked our server for more water, but she did not return. Another staff member stopped by to politely let us know that the kitchen was closing to see if we wanted anything else. We declined, but then I asked again for water. At that point, we were just left outside while they cleaned and worked on closing. It was clear that we were forgotten about, as we were waiting for our check. After some time, I think they realized that they had left us, and brought us a flan on the house to make up for the wait. It was nice, but it was brought with three spoons instead of four, which was odd. All in all, the food was good, but the menu was limited and service was a bit challenging. I'm uncertain of the vision of the restaurant. It's not really a steakhouse, nor is it a taco shop. read more

Restaurant just opened 2 months or so ago, and it has received a lot of buzz! Rightly so! Grandson Steak is located in Liberty Station (so parking can be tough to find at times). Small eating establishment with minimal indoor seating and mostly outdoor seating (which can be challenging on rainy days). We opened with Shrimp Fritters (which were good) and Bone Barrow (fatty but lacking on flavor).. We also ordered the Ribeye Family Feast (which includes 24 oz ribeye, 1/2 pound Adobada, 1/2 pound Birria, 6 quesadillas, guacamole, fried beans, grilled peppers and onions, and 6 corn tortillas) . So much food and so filling! The steak was so good! We selected the Prime option. Service was good but she was definitely busy. Patio seating by street can be noisy with planes flying overhead, vehicles driving by and noise from nearby bar. read more

Excellent food and good service despite the goofy name. Been here a few times now and each time has been fire. Their steak platter for the table is so good, I don't understand how they're cooking their beef to get it to taste this way and be so tender. The salsa and sides they serve with it too are awesome. The steak was tender and flavorful. Drinks were refreshing. Atmosphere was good. Service was friendly. Sides are unique for steak restaurant - such as quesadillas and guacamole. Now the downside: The service was somewhat on the slow side, but they were really busy. They probably needed an additional waiter/waitress? Idk. While I was there the couple sitting next to me wasn't served or greeted. They were about to walk out. The waitress asked them to stay and they received impeccable service - almost as if they were the only ones there. Probably the best I've ever seen. If you want to pay premium prices for a Prime steak, get a Choice cut instead, and then have the entire staff gaslight you about it, this is your place. Our group ordered three medium-rare ribeyes. Two were Choice and one was Prime, which was my order. I was the very last person at our table to order. But when the food came out, it didn't even arrive all together. Two steaks came out first, and the last one came out after. The waiter who brought the first two plates had absolutely no clue whose food was whose. He just asked the table who ordered medium-rare and handed me one of those first two plates. If they actually used seat numbers or paid attention to the tickets, my Prime steak should have been the last one out. Instead, they just auctioned off the food at the table and I ended up with a Choice cut that was ordered before mine. I highly recommend looking at the attached photos. They claim they use little flags to identify which steak is which. As you can clearly see in the pictures, there were absolutely no flags on our plates when the food arrived. The runner was completely blind. When all the food was finally on the table, it was incredibly obvious what happened. The steak they gave me looked exactly identical to the other steak that came out first, while the third steak that came out last looked completely different. Since we ordered two Choice cuts and one Prime, it is pretty obvious the two identical steaks were the Choice cuts and the odd one out was the Prime. I didn't want to just eat someone else's food, so we politely asked the staff to clarify. Instead of just checking the tickets to fix an obvious mix up, the waiter, the host, and eventually the chef all decided to gaslight us. The chef came out to the table and didn't even ask any questions about the order the plates came out or look closely at the food. He just blindly insisted the Choice steak in front of me was Prime. It definitely was not. If your own staff cannot tell the difference between the steaks once they are cooked without using flags, then the error is entirely on the restaurant for losing track of the orders. If a kitchen loses track of which premium cut is which, the only acceptable solution is to apologize and refire the order. Instead, they doubled down and guessed. To make it worse, I ordered a side of bone marrow that I never even got. The runner just dumped it onto my friend's plate instead. When it came time to pay, they removed the missing marrow from my bill, but then tried to charge my friend for the extra bone marrow on their plate even though my friend only ordered one. Instead of owning their plating mistake, they just tried to pass the charge onto someone else at the table. I never got the Prime ribeye I actually ordered, but they definitely made sure to charge me full price for it. Lazy food running, an arrogant staff that refuses to fix their own mistakes, and getting charged for upgrades and items we didn't get. Some simple constructive feedback for management: start using seat numbers for your orders and train your food runners to know exactly what they are dropping off. It will save your staff a lot of embarrassment and save your customers a lot of frustration. Because of how incredibly poorly this was handled, you have lost me as a customer and I will absolutely not be recommending this business to anyone else. For the premium prices charged here, diners are much better off taking their business to a steakhouse that gets the basics right. read more

A perfect 5. Just a fabulous restaurant to find. We started with cocktails - the bartender has a great pour - with chips and an amazing refried bran mix with, I have no idea - but it was delicious. It was also free and we enjoyed every bite. We shared a citrus ceviche and I thought I was in heaven. The ceviche was perfect - fresh, tasty, spiced perfectly and we ate every bite! Wow! This is a great addition to Port Loma and liberty Station! Something unique. Stopped by tonight and tried the ribeye taco and shrimp taco as well as the burger. The ribeye taco was amazing. The burger was delicious and it came with two sides. I recommend the mashed potatoes with bacon. This place is definitely affordable, especially considering the huge increases in prices in restaurants around the city. The vibe is pretty cool too. Great for date night, but also family oriented. I want to come back and order the ribeye platter where everybody can build their own tacos with different flavors. Food and drinks were excellent. I loved the apple rosemary agua fresca. The ribeye was great, not the best Prime Ribeye I have had in San Diego, but it was good for the price! This place is on the less pricey side for a steakhouse. Side portions are on the smaller side, not really shareable, but you can! I would recommend for them to get a bigger chip dish to serve chips in for sharing. The small bowl for chips with the guac was hard to share amongst the table. Unfortunately, service was not the best.. Friendly! But the etiquette needs work. The server would talk over us or interrupt us when trying to order or ask questions. The server forgot multiple times to refill our waters for the table, also forgot a couple drinks we had ordered, so we constantly had to remind them. We had a reservation at 8 and the restaurant closed at 9, but the ENTIRE time we felt like we were being super rushed, which took away from the nice ambiance the restaurant could have provided. There were multiple instances were our table was surrounded by table bussers, taking dishes and cleaning while we were eating, even a couple sauces and dips we were still using. I get it, if our server takes a few dishes here and there when they check in or bring us food/drink is totally okay, but to be swarmed by table bussers taking dishes and cleaning in the middle of eating took away from the experience. We also ordered extra dessert to go, but the portions in the to-go were smaller than what we had received while dining in. It should be consistent across the board, especially if you are paying the same price, you should get the same size portion. There will be pictures for reference. This restaurant has great potential and it is just barely a month and a half old, so I will give it time to work out the kinks. I am curious to see how this restaurant does in the summer time with closing on the earlier side for a steak house. Again, food is great! Loved the apple rosemary agua fresca. read more
