    Amuse bouche

We wanted to try a new place and I saw that they had a Monday special (porterhouse special for 2) so we made a reservation and had a good time. We did not end up ordering the special but will come back and try it. It is located off of orange and it is on the second floor. Decor was nice, the staff were friendly and our waiter was knowledgeable. They give you an amuse bouche which was a cucumber slice with some sort of tuna on top. Very good. They also provide different types of bread and butters. We ended up ordering the following: Crab cake- really nice with lump crab and not a lot of "filling" which was great. Caesar salad- so good and there were a few anchovies on top. Filet- cooked perfectly. Skirt steak- really flavorful. Again, we will come back and try the porterhouse special.

You can tell within the first ten minutes whether a steakhouse is going to be worth the bill. At Stake, it clicked fast: a rooftop that actually delivers on the "rooftop" promise, cocktails that arrive properly cold and balanced, and a staff that understands how to pace a meal when the table is there to enjoy the night, not churn through courses. We timed it perfectly--sunset easing into evening, fire tables glowing, and that Coronado breeze that makes you linger. The room felt lively and upscale but not loud or chaotic. It's a great setting for a date or celebration because it looks impressive without feeling like it's trying too hard. The menu reads like a modern chophouse greatest hits, but the kitchen avoids the usual pitfalls. The opening plates were restrained and intentional: clean cuts, bright notes where you want them, and a smart balance of texture (crisps, acid, and richness playing together instead of competing). The skewers arrived with real grill character--caramelized edges, savory depth, and the kind of char that says the kitchen isn't afraid of heat. And then dessert: a tall, dramatic chocolate situation that felt like the steakhouse version of a victory lap--rich, layered, and indulgent, with ice cream that cut the density in the right way. It's the kind of dessert that makes you pause mid-conversation and do that quiet "okay... wow." Service deserves its own paragraph. Paige was outstanding--exactly the blend you hope for in a high-end room: friendly without being chatty, knowledgeable without reciting, and proactive without hovering. Water stayed filled, timing stayed smooth, and recommendations landed like they came from someone who actually eats the menu. Is it pricey? Absolutely and they have an excellent happy hour for the price sensitive. But this is one of those places where the atmosphere + execution + service justify it--especially if you're making a night of it.

Great 2-person promo--plenty of food, classic sides, and steak cooked right. Easy win for date night.

Classic steakhouse vibes done right. We went with the two-person promo, which turned out to be a solid value--generous portions, a perfectly cooked bone-in steak with a proper crust, and rich, indulgent sides that didn't feel like an afterthought. The gratin was creamy with a nicely browned top, and the vegetable dish balanced out the meal well. Service was polished without being stiff, and the ambiance felt upscale yet relaxed. Pricey overall, but the promo makes this a dependable Coronado spot for date night or a low-effort celebration.

Huge disappointment for our anniversary dinner. Don't get me wrong it's a lovely atmosphere and the service was good. But in absolutely no way is this place worth the money. I ordered Alaskan king crab legs for market price ($135) and I received the tiniest 1 & 1/2 crab legs I've ever seen. They were not Alaskan king crab size, they had hardly any meat in them what so ever. I don't mind paying more for good food but this experience was pitiful. If I ran this restaurant I would be embarrassed. I get we are in Coronado, so there's an island price markup to be expected but this felt like pure robbery. As a local who has lived on the island, this establishment is an absolute money trap.

Yesterday (Valentine's Day) we came to Stake, we've been here once before but after this experience Never ever again. It was a set menu for 165.00 per person, before I made the reservations I called and made sure about the same menu that was online and she said that was the menu for sure and it was assured everything on it would be available. Well to start we got seated in such a Horrible place I was facing the kitchen and the door every min was opening and closing and the smell was awful and it was freezing. I went to the host and asked to see if there was another table and when they moved us to the other side there was SIX tables that were empty, so why would you seat us at such a awful table! Then the server comes after 20 min finally takes our drinks and they come out they were awful. Then we finally tried to order and half the menu was "not available" our reservations were for 8:00pm. And he said no rib eye, no soup, no ahi tuna, no seared Japanese A5, no nothing So I sucked it up and said nothing and ordered what was available from the small menu. I was absolutely pissed cause I came for the ribeye. The steaks were supposed to come out with mashed potatoes and candied rainbow carrots. EVEN THE CARROTS they ran out of! Like what the heck kind of scam was this! Running out of carrots when you clearly know how many reservations you have is crazy and unacceptable. They gave me a tasteless burn steak with these NASTY dried potatoes and TWO limp asparagus! It was awful I have a picture! I put my fork into the mashed potatoes just to see and you'll see in the picture. What it was it was this dirt textured can't even call them potatoes. It was disgusting. I had one bite and almost choked on it cause it was so awful. I didnt eat the steak and we walked out of there paying 450.00$ for Two people completely unsatisfied, and hungry. The steak was severely overcooked, completely dry and burnt. For the price, this was unacceptable. I expect a chef to understand basic doneness levels. I would be embarrassed as a chef to send this out, I'm not sure how this left the kitchen. The steak was burnt to the point of being black on the outside and dry throughout. This level of overcooking is hard to overlook. I don't even understand the level of embarrassment I would be if I was a chef to send out a horrible, sad plate like that. So to sum it up not only I won't come but I'll make sure to put it on my social media all the pics I have of the food I received at Stake. Oh and the dessert the brown butter cake I almost threw up it was that horrible and I love dessert.

You will not be disappointed in this restaurant a restaurant is very romantic. They have very excellent service. The food is out of this world the best seafood and steak in California!!!! The drinks that they make here are very outstanding. I highly recommend this place 100%. I will be definitely going back. They made the night very special for my wife and I.

They have a great daily happy hour 4-630pm on their patio and bar area! Great menu items to trial their menu. They have a petite filet 4oz on the HH menu, great steak but be aware it is served worth a bordeaise sauce. But the mussels took front stage for me with a glass of white wine.

Skirt steak with blue cheese and grilled onions

Thomas... best server EVER! This steak (NY strip and skirt) is what they must serve in heaven, melts in your mouth... they even let you select the type of steak knife you want to use. Sides... outstanding (Brussels and au gratin), appetizer... devine (bone marrow). Dessert... perfect (crème brûlée, carrot cake). This meal will be remembered for a very long time......

The food is good I guess. The wagyu taco had a nice flavor and the greens with the sauce made it work. I don't think it's actually wagyu, but the word is pretty much meaningless at this point. For the crust, I found it to be way too chewy rather than light and flaky. I couldn't even cut it with my spoon anymore and had to pick up a long thing of crust and pull it apart with my teeth. I will allow that the gravy and other contents are bland and generic since if it had as much flavor as I actually want, other customers will be complaining about it. But the crust I cannot forgive. Overall it was not bad though. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the brussels sprouts. Even with all the seasoning and cheese, I found the flavor to be well balanced. Even after most of the plate, I noticed I didn't find it too salty. I really like the menus in the crappy brown folders. Unfortunately, our most recent visit was one of the strangest and most disappointing restaurant experiences we have had in a long time. We brought a guest visiting from out of town and were honestly embarrassed by how poor the experience was from start to finish. The restaurant was only about one quarter full on a weekday evening, yet service was shockingly slow and disorganized. It started with our server fumbling through reservation lists trying to find our name, then acting annoyed when we ordered specific cocktails. At one point, he even asked if we were "old enough to drink," which came off as rude and bizarre. The first round of drinks took around 20 minutes and arrived poorly made. We then waited another 40 minutes just to place entree orders, despite barely seeing our server after appetizers arrived. Ordering a second round somehow went even worse. The server rolled his eyes, made annoyed noises, and acted inconvenienced that we were ordering more drinks at a restaurant charging premium prices. One drink, a dirty martini, took about 30 minutes and arrived with a greasy film on top from bleu cheese olives sitting in it far too long. We asked for a manager, who apologized but then asked whether we wanted sweet or dry vermouth in a dirty martini, which did not inspire much confidence. The remake came back not dirty at all and had to be remade again. After nearly two hours, our entrees finally arrived. The plates were dropped on the table without a word. The chicken and fish were passable, but the sides were awful. Cold, lifeless, and completely forgettable. The broccolini was especially bad. We complained again, and the manager offered to comp the bill. Even then, it took another long wait just to close out. I eventually handed the server $100 cash because we simply wanted to leave and still tip something despite the experience. He then shoved the check open in my face and said, "There's your bill." What made this so disappointing is that we used to love this place. It was somewhere we proudly brought visitors. Instead, we left apologizing to our guest for how uncomfortable and confusing the entire night was. We do not care about free food or comps. We care about receiving a decent dining experience at a restaurant charging $30 cocktails and premium entree prices. Serea has declined dramatically, and management needs to take a hard look at both service standards and overall execution. Do better.

We made the reservation about two weeks in advance and I even stopped by a couple days beforehand to confirm everything was set. When we arrived, the staff and manager were very accommodating and moved us outside so we could enjoy the beautiful views of the San Diego Bay. The setting truly was amazing and several people in our group commented on how beautiful the restaurant was. Unfortunately, the service timing really impacted the experience. We had an 11:45 reservation, but our orders were not taken until around 12:30 despite appetizers and drinks beginning to arrive. Drinks alone took close to 40 minutes. We had also ordered oysters, and only after we followed up were we informed they had just arrived and had not yet been shucked. It left us wondering if we would have received the notice at all had we not asked. The servers themselves were kind and polite throughout, but service was very infrequent and the pacing of the meal became difficult for a large group with work schedules to maintain. Entrées did not begin arriving until around 1:00 PM, and they came out so spread apart that some team members had finished eating before others had even received their food. Eventually our leader had to ask about the remaining meals because many of us had meetings to return to. The manager did offer complimentary dessert, which was appreciated, but by that point we had already been there over two and a half hours and unfortunately needed to leave. Overall, the location and atmosphere were wonderful, and the staff was friendly, but the experience itself was disappointing given that this was meant to be a celebration lunch for our team.
