This place was so good we went three times during our stay. The first time, we had drinks at the bar. Ben, the bartender, was very attentive and made great suggestions. The next visit, we had the cold lobster roll with fries, blackened fish and chips. The lobster roll was so good! The buttered roll was delish! The blackened catfish was SUPER spicy! My husband loved it. On our last visit, we had the Manhattan clam chowder, the New England clam chowder, prawns & linguine, and the bouillabaisse. The chowders were so good. I could have just eaten those and been happy. If you can't decide between the two, they will give you half and half - mixed. The prawns were HUGE and tender. The sauce on the linguine was light and bursting with herby goodness. My husband loved the bouillabaisse which was full of fish, scallops, mussels, etc. The restaurant sits in Glorietta Bay which is just across the street from the Hotel del Coronado. We came here after our adventures at SeaWorld. Not too bad of a drive (about 20 minutes) there, and it was when the sun was setting, so it made for lovely ambiance. We had reservations and were seated outside. Thankfully, they had the heaters going as it was a bit cool. We ordered a dozen raw oysters, the chowder and the miso butterfish. The kiddo ordered his usual marinara noodles with French fries. We devoured the warm fresh sourdough bread and butter as we were all famished. Our food came out pretty quickly after ordering. Chowder and miso butterfish were very good, and the raw oysters were exceptional. The kid enjoyed his noodles and fries and even had a few bites of the chowder. For dessert, we had the key lime pie. Holy smokes, we were not expecting the slice to be so generous, but it was fantastic-not too tart and not too sweet-extremely well balanced. Even the pie crust was great-incredibly moist. Service was good, although sitting outside, we did not receive as much attention as we would have had we been inside. We had to ask for refills on waters several times, and utensils were brought to us after we received our meals. We always got what we asked for but we had to ask. I like that they had a red manhattan chowder in addition to the normal white chowder. Although, the seafood flavor was still subdued as usual, nowhere close to what I prefer. Edamame was fine. Fish tacos were also just a very standard, bland American flavor with cabbage and tomato, but the fish was not bad. Java mud pie was good. The iconic cupola style consistent with the historical character of the Hotel Del Coronado, this restaurant which was once a boat house has been serving fantastic seafood surrounded by stunning views of Glorietta Bay. Plenty of free parking on the lot steps away from the entrance. The covered outdoor patio is our preferred seating. Views of the bay, boats, and mini yachts docked is always fun to see. Have dined here a few times and we always order our favorites: spicy Bloody Mary, Sand Dabs and Norwegian Salmon all presented nicely and tasted as good as it looked. Service from the staff and waitress all times we were here was cordial, attentive and accommodating. There were times we sent back something for being too salty and the kitchen were accommodating and apologetic enough to correct it or offer another dish as they should. We came here for dinner the other night for the first time. Funny enough, we originally meant to go to Blue Water and thought this was the same restaurant as the ones in OB and Point Loma -- turns out it's a similar name, but a completely different restaurant (those are just "Blue Water"). We were seated right away, which was great. We ordered the calamari and clam chowder to start. For mains, my husband had the pan-seared striped bass, I ordered the misoyaki cod, and our friend had the swordfish. Overall, the food was mediocre for the price. The standout dish for us was the clam chowder -- it was the only thing we really enjoyed. My misoyaki cod lacked flavor; I could barely taste the miso and it felt like it needed to be marinated longer. The rice that came with it was also overly greasy, too much soy sauce on the bottom, almost like too much oil or butter, and I couldn't finish it. My husband's striped bass tasted better than my dish, and the swordfish was just okay. Overall, for what you pay, we weren't very impressed with the food. My wife and I had a gift card for a decent amount for Bluewater Grill. We were sat outside and it was a little chilly - sadly the heater didn't provide enough warmth but the food made up for it. We started with crispy calamari and it was nicely cooked and provided a nice start to our yummy dinner. My wife got the Ahi which was light and flavorful. First time having lunch at Bluewater Grill in Coronado. It sits next to the marina, opposite of Hotel Del Coronado. According to its website, "the iconic cupola-adorned landmark was built in 1887 as a design prototype for the Hotel del Coronado located across the street". It has the same red/ white facade as the famous hotel. We sat next to the water under heat lamp. We ordered the crab and avocado salad, crab cakes appetizers and pan-seared salmon entree and had complimentary sourdough bread and butter. The restaurant is located on beautiful Glorietta Bay in Coronado, CA, and just down the hill from the Hotel del Coronado. Our server was Gloria and my party had lots of questions for her about the food and how it was prepared. We also wanted to know what sauces were on a given menu item. She was on top of all of that. She also allowed us to sub an alternate side for the fries listed on the menu. When the amber ale that I had selected was not available Gloria suggested another that I was not familiar with, Bay City Peninsula Lager. When I hesitated to order it, she offered to bring a tasting sample for me. I understand that may be SOP but I was surprised and pleased to have the option to taste it before ordering. It was an excellent beverage choice for lunch. When our orders came, my lobster roll with fries was delayed 90 seconds to 2 minutes. I was mildly perturbed but she brings it to the table and announces that the chef asked that she delay the plate so he/she could place the hottest fries available on the plate. Kudos again to the staff. The food was delicious but my attention was on how well the staff, especially Gloria, took care of us. My brother wanted to know the market price for the crab. Many servers might have delayed answering before retreating to the kitchen to consult someone else. Gloria knew the answer and was able to discuss alternative ways of serving it. It was a terrific meal and experience and though, I do not frequent Coronado, I am looking forward to coming back to the Bluewater Grill. read more

They have a bit more variety of items than seafood market, more drink options, and I think it's a bit more pricey. The quality of the seafood is the same as the other locations. Don't try to bring your dog for happy hour. They say they are dog friendly and then when we brought our dog for happy hour we were told the only place we could sit was the patio and they don't serve happy hour on the patio. They asked the manager and they said no. We were denied service because we had a dog even though their website promotes they are dog friendly. This was a last minute attempt at having a great dinner and Bluewater Grill delivered. We were seated within half hour of arrival. We had Theo, our 2yr. Old American Akita with us. Theo is a magnet for attention and absolutely loves every second of it. For ambiance, perfect lighting and atmosphere. The setting is picture perfect and oh so inviting. Our table was outside and all the waiters were so sweet and came to greet Theo. Shawn the GM., seems to be very well known to the locals and we were so happy to meet him. We are posting a photo of him with Theo. This gentleman is a class act and even offered us to call him, so he could accommodate us at our local Bluewater Grills in Newport Beach and Redondo locations. The food! Blacked swordfish was delightful. The sourdough bread was piping hot upon arrival and the Calamari was also very good and a generous serving. We were so welcomed and enjoyed our food so much that we promised to come back and bring Theo. He also gobbled up his burger patty and loved it.
