This is the very first pity 5 stars I've ever done. I didn't order any food nor any drinks. So to give it anything less than five stars is completely unfair. The service was excellent so that's all I'm going off of. The menu did look pretty fire though, so I'd be willing to give it another shot cause for all intents and purposes, the other people in the restaurant seemed to be really enjoying the food! But anyways... I'm a skillet cookie connoisseur. Any place that has a skillet cookie, I'm going there SOLEY to order it. If I ever get married, instead of having cake, my guests will be having skillet cookies for dessert instead. Some might say I love skillet cookies even more than Scottie Scheffler. My love for skillet cookies runs deeper than the Mariana trench and I've been to more than (at least) 11 restaurants to exclusively try them out. With that out of the way... I'm horrified to report this is the worst skillet cookie I've ever had in my entire life. It somehow felt overcooked, yet undercooked at the same time. It was also like they cooked it at an angle. Because it awkwardly occupied 3/4ths of the skillet. It had the consistency of a cake but the taste of a cookie? It was like they couldn't decide whether or not they wanted to make a cake or a cookie. So instead, they decided to half bake something that was in between. I couldn't believe it. It was also completely lacking in the chocolate chip department. All in all, this skillet cookie had a worse performance than Michael Jordan during his high school varsity tryouts. I'll admit it too... I completely lied to the waitress when she came over and asked me how the cookie was. Instead of telling her the truth, I gave her two thumbs up and said, " it's good!".... This wasn't the first time I've been to Tavern, but it's the first time I've been in probably a year or two and, while I love the atmosphere of the place, the food isn't what I'd call one of my favorites on Coronado. The bar in the restaurant is great, with a couple of nice TVs for sports, and the somewhat dark, basement-oriented style of the restaurant is really cool and unique. On my most recent visit, I ordered the Grilled Bacon & Blistered Shishito Pepper Burger. While the burger looked delicious, and tasted decent, I had higher hopes for it. I was wanting the burger to be a bit more juicy and spicy. While there is some room for improvement there, it's definitely still a place I'll be back to! read more

We came here to watch the USA World Cup game, and it was a great experience. Everyone was in a great mood, which made for a fun atmosphere. The bartender also made an excellent dirty martini. We ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich, and it was tasty. I really liked the ambiance, it truly feels like you're in a tavern, especially since the bar is located downstairs. The bar was packed, so the staff got a little overwhelmed. Service slowed down, and our initial tab was incorrect, but they fixed it quickly without any issues. We spontaneously went to Coronado with a large group and no reservations. We ended up here because the place was relatively empty. They had good drink options and a menu that everyone could find something. I got the salmon and thought it was good but very plain and therefore expensive for what you got. We split the Brussels which were good, and others enjoyed the pot pie, gem salad, steak tacos, fish tacos and more. Overall everyone liked their food but none of the dishes blew us away. read more

It does feel more like a dive bar than a sports bar to me. And yeah, it's partly because it's below the street, more like a basement, more introverted, and good if you want to be on Orange Ave., but don't want to "feel" like you're on Orange Ave. I only ordered an IPA, so I can't comment on the drinks. The food is good I guess. The wagyu taco had a nice flavor and the greens with the sauce made it work. I don't think it's actually wagyu, but the word is pretty much meaningless at this point. For the crust, I found it to be way too chewy rather than light and flaky. I couldn't even cut it with my spoon anymore and had to pick up a long thing of crust and pull it apart with my teeth. I will allow that the gravy and other contents are bland and generic since if it had as much flavor as I actually want, other customers will be complaining about it. But the crust I cannot forgive. Overall it was not bad though. Surprisingly, my favorite item was the brussels sprouts. Even with all the seasoning and cheese, I found the flavor to be well balanced. Even after most of the plate, I noticed I didn't find it too salty. I really like the menus in the crappy brown folders. I think they might've also done it because it's easy and cheap, but it works well with the aesthetic they have. read more

Had some great happy hour bites at the Tavern. The $7 Cabernet Sauvignon was delicious. Loved the floral center piece at the table and the beautiful distressed wood table itself. Service was friendly, and the food came out promptly. The waygu steak taco was my favorite, it had a great flavor and was very tender. Located within walking distance from Hotel Del and the beach, Tavern is a great place to grab a bite to eat or a drink! The ambiance is pretty laid back with low lighting and low background noise. My favorite part of the experience is realizing that you're slightly below sidewalk level and the foot traffic outside is a little less than most restaurants. Great spot located on the main street, but set on a lower level to create a lovely and intimate setting. Outdoor seating is available, but the interior truly is warm and inviting with lots of wood, stone, low lighting and subtle floral accents. Our bartender/server Hannah was great. Friendly, attentive, quick and helpful. My husband had the sliders, which he enjoyed. I ordered the Crispy Brussel Sprouts, which were flash fried and too burnt for me. I couldn't find any green in the dish. All the sprouts looked and tasted overdone. Thankfully, the dish was removed from our bill and I was given a chance to order something else. I chose the Tomato Soup Gratinée, which was INCREDIBLE. It came out in a small bowl, but the serving was perfect. The soup was rich and satisfying with lots of mozarella. What a badass spot. It's sort of like you're in a basement but you're higher up and you can view all the passerby's from a lower angle. It's cozy inside and the bartender knew how to handle our group. She got us hooked on some peppermint liquor they had for Christmas time and she was fast with the drinks and personable. My friend and I have passed this place many times and finally decided to give it a try. I'll first say that first impressions are very important and that the totally unprofessional and unfriendly demeanor given to us by the host is unacceptable. He neither acknowledged us nor greeted us properly nor ever smiled. His choice to be rude set a downward spiral for the rest of the night. Around 6pm, I noticed a lot of tables had guests but no food, which tells me either the staff is stretched and/or the kitchen is backed up...turns out it was both. When we finally got a waiter, they were pleasant and friendly, compared to the host, and got our orders. It wasn't until 30 MINUTES LATER that we got our food. Now luckily the food did taste very good. I had the burger, while my friend had the fish and chips. Would I ever come back? It's very hard to say. While I waited until noon, I watched ~10 people move on because they couldn't wait till noon due to lunchtime constraints. My team and I came here for a work event on a week day. The service was fantastic, everything came out super quick, and everything tasted fresh. All of my coworkers enjoyed their salmon and I liked the cauliflower dish. I could've used another item on the dish to fill me up besides the cauliflower but the flavors were great! Met some friends here for happy hour before a concert in the park. It's definitely hard to see the name of the restaurant from the outside but once you do you kind of go a few steps down and you are there. They have an outdoor patio a really big bar inside it's very cozy and cabin like feel. They've got great food the Brussels were fantastic so were the burgers and their bartender makes some great cocktails too. The hostess is in waitresses were super sweet and went out of their way to make sure that we had everything that we needed as well as a big enough table for all of us. Their prices were reasonable. I came to Coronado to visit a friend and we decided to go to dinner here at The Tavern. We had heard from other recommendations that we should give them a try. The parking in the area can be tricky. There are numerous street-parking opportunities nearby and it's important to be mindful of the ones that have a 2-hour parking limit and which ones are unlimited. I parked about 3.5 blocks down by the beach and it was a short walk. The interior of The Tavern is very reminiscent of an old Irish Pub of sorts. Mostly all wooden, homey decor, kind of an earthy overtone and I could appreciate the vibes. Service was superb, friendly & super-attentive I chose seating at a window booth, instead of a high-table. One thing to note is that depending on the season & weather, although you're indoors, it can get a bit chilly and you may still want a sweater. Oh and their bathroom was super-clean and that's always a plus and speaks to the cleanliness & organization of an establishment. I ordered the pork belly tostadas (street tacos) that come a gooseberry demi-glaze for starters and their "fish and chips". The tostadas were freakin amazing! Meat was cooked to perfection, tender and the gooseberry sauce lended a subtle sweetness to the flavors. The tostada was crispy & not soggy and complimented the tender meat. The fish and chips were disappointing however. Their size was smaller than I anticipated, the texture of the first one was crispy and the other two tended to be soggy on the underside (indicative of too much oil). The flavor was as expected & good and the tartar sauce was basic, but worked to boost the flavor profile. Unfortunately, the last two fish pieces were so soft that they crumbled when trying to dip them. The only big win is that I was told that they use fresh local fish and that's why I ordered them (support local fishermen). I just think that $21 was a bit steep for this experience. For dessert, I ordered the churros & hot chocolate dip and got a side of vanilla icecream. This was the perfect sweet treat! I got 3 long churros warm, a bowl of hot chocolate sauce to dip them in and the cool icecream complemented the entire experience Overall, I really liked my experience at The Tavern. Other than the overpriced fish & chips, my dining went well and the vibes inside are great for a date night or just socializing with friends. read more
