Such a cool spot to have lunch. This was my first time but it won't be my last. The upstairs dining is awesome and gives you a great view of ocean. Absolutely beautiful. Lets get into it. Food: We had a few options like always. I mean why not right! We started with * Tempura Rock Shrimp - this was crazy good. I did not expect the flavors to punch me in the mouth like it did. Crispy, light batter, the glaze and toppings really made it a phenomenal appetizer. I would highly recommend this dish. It is small in quantity but if feeds 2 people easily. * Crab Cakes - the crab cakes are good they do have a nice crispy texture on the outside but the inside is tender and packed with your normal Crab Cakes flavors. Not a bad choice. It was fresh and the portions are above average. * Balboa Rolll - somehow this roll with so many different flavors and textures went so well together. Cuddos to the chef for this one. The scallions on top changed the entire roll. I really loved this one. Would definitely order it again. Portion size was larger than the average roll. * Overstuffed Bacon & Eggs - this one was crazy!! It's literally a tower of deviled egg yoke with bacon, bits of celery and paprika on top. This was my least favorite only because the amount of yoke compared to the actual egg you get didn't add up. Once the egg is gone you're left with a mountain of egg yoke. It's way to much for my taste. The yoke also seemed a little dry and pasty. For deviled egg lovers this is a dream come true. * Skirt Steak & Eggs - wife said it was really good and the red chimichiri complimented the steak just right. The portions were large, the steak was juicy and cooked perfecrly to her request. With skillet fried smahed potatoes and toasted buttered bread. Very good option for steak lovers. Service: The staff was great from the check-in booth to the waiter everyone did such a great job and was so polite. I couldn't help notice that everyone was smiling and super helpful. This is a great team working at that restaurant. Bar tenders were on top of drinks which was nice to get your drink shortly after ordering. Atmosphere: It's an ocean side restaurant or should I say on the ocean restaurant with wall to wall windows showing the ocean and the beautiful San Diego landscape. Really enjoyed the area and activities. Price: The appitizers were above average prices but hey!! Totally worth it. It ranged from $16-$30 per dish, its really not too bad for the quality of food and service. Location: It's located in Seaport Village which has so many different places to try and plenty of businesses to walk and find some really cool things. As a marina district local, I'm so glad this spot opened!! I've taken anyone who visits me here for a meal and/or drink since August. The staff is all so friendly and fun which is a huge plus. We were genuinely excited to hear that Shorebird was coming to San Diego since we've always loved their Newport location but this experience was a huge letdown. The food was honestly disappointing. The roll had no taste that we left more than half, and the oysters were shockingly small, about the size of a nail bed. It just didn't live up to the quality I was expecting at all. Service didn't help either. Our servers had little to no knowledge of the menu, which made the experience even more frustrating. We eventually moved to the bar hoping things would improve, and while the service was slightly better there (thanks to who I believe was the bar manager), it still didn't make up for everything else. Shorebird Restaurant is actually really special to us. My husband and I came here for our second date back in 2017 when it was still called the Pier Café, so it holds a lot of memories. Back then, the food was fresh, clean, and delicious and honestly, we were a little nervous to come back after the change in ownership. But it did not disappoint at all. If anything, we felt like it was even better than before. The food was so good that we've already started recommending it to all our friends. We had a show at the Shell and have been wanting to try this restaurant since they revamped the location. We had an amazing time here for dinner a couple of weeks ago. Our server was WONDERFUL! She was attentive, sweet and chatty. The food was really good too. Here's what we ordered: Overstuffed deviled eggs- holy cow. A bit too much yellow for me but once I scraped some off, they were so yummy. Caesar salad- we shared this and it was a perfect size. The fresh anchovies were delicious. It could get really bright (and hot) at around 12-3pm but that's the price you pay for living in Sunny San Diego! Definitely enough to share as it did come with potatoes & 2 pcs of sourdough toast. We also got the souffle pancakes which came w/3 stacks. The evening views are limited at this time of year, so I'd more recommend going for brunch or lunch for bayfront views. The hostess recommended we sit upstairs, which I thought was a poor recommendation. Upstairs is warmer, but views aren't as great since the downstairs has floor to ceiling windows. I wished we sat downstairs. There is also a small bar upstairs. I didn't get a great view of the downstairs. Service: Service was ok. Server didn't check on us often and left quickly when we would try to order additional things. Drinks: They don't have any beer on tap, only bottles. If like me you typically dislike birds found at the shore (ie seagulls) you will be happily surprised this restaurant has nothing in common with said winged savages. The service I received was above and beyond the average dining experience. I enjoyed playful banter and conversation with our lovely server Shelby. She recommended a couple mocktails to try and if I had socks on, they'd be knocked off. So I trusted her judgement fully on what continued to fill my tummy. I was pleasantly surprised with every bite I took this evening, from the deviled eggs to the to the fresh sushi. I cherished every moment and every flavor. We ordered a variety and split them both times we went. I think the tempura rock shrimp were my favorite but fat. The flavors were so good but honestly everything we tried on the appetizer menu was. The sauces that came with the egg rolls were also a crowd favorite and we used them for just about everything. The Caesar salad is a lemon Caesar salad and the lemon is a strong flavor. Stumbled upon Shorebird while we took the kids out for a quick Labor Day Weekend outing, we were soo glad we made it in. the restaurant SITS ON THE WATER, and has a really awesome view, outstanding service and delicious food. It is never easy to sit w/ our twins given our stroller, but the staff was super attentive to catering to our 2 adults 2 infants party, as well as giving us a space for our stroller. Shorebird - Garlic Roll and Tin's Dressed Oysters - New American Near Me - San Diego, California

A vacant two-story structure on the western side of Seaport Village is now the new home of the fourth location of Shorebird. They are currently in a soft opening phase with a limited menu, however the grand opening will occur by the end of this week. I'm unsure why it took so long for a new business to take over the space as it has a terrific perch over the water with south and west facing views of the bay. The upstairs deck featured a bar and several tables for seating. The lower-level dining area wrapped around the outside of the structure. The main dinner menu was posted outside the entranceway. Some of the specialty dishes were only available after 4:30 pm. Just one almond wood-fired specialty was listed on the soft opening dinner menu which became my selection for the evening, the Prime Skirt Steak. Several slices of premium angus beef (cooked medium rare) were served with red chimichurri. The accompanying side was crispy herb yukon potatoes that had a cup of lemon aioli for dipping. A few pieces of beef were undercooked and chewy. The smashed potatoes had crispy edges to them which provided a nice texture. A raw bar menu was offered with several choices of sashimi, maki rolls, and two-piece nigiri. I skipped that and saved room for dessert. Although there was no printed menu, my waitress told me there were two choices, a Valrhona Chocolate Brownie and a Pineapple Carrot Cake. I picked the latter which was served as a large wedge with cream cheese icing and rum-soaked raisins on the side. A small cup of pineapple juice was provided to pour on top of the cake. There's a reason why I don't order dessert often, and that's because the items are so rich in calories like this version of carrot cake. The place was quite empty while I was there because I don't think many people knew about the soft opening. After the restaurant becomes fully operational, then I think there will be a waitlist for lunch and dinner because of the prime waterfront location. I needed to add salt to taste. I'm not sure but the ketchup tastes different my guess it's a house made ketchup. The price is a little high for the amount of onion rings and size of the sandwich. The Wagyu burger is 4 out of 5. They cut it into half, the first half is just perfect and the other half still looks pinkish. Our server didn't really check in on us. I went here for my birthday dinner last night and was very disappointed. We were running a few minutes late for our reservation and tried to call several times but no answer. When we arrived, they had given up our reservation, not a big deal, it was what we expected... but they went on to say it was so busy, they couldn't answer. Which just wasn't true. There were empty tables, not very many and we were the ONLY people who had been waiting. They also didn't even mention they had a bar for us to wait in. When they did seat us, we were fairly disappointed in the service and menu. There were not a lot of options. But mostly the price. The price is absolutely not worth it for what you get. The quality of the food is mid at best. I ordered an oysters, sushi roll and the tuna egg roll. The sushi roll (while looked pretty) truly tasted identical to grocery store sushi. VERY disappointed in the roll. Oysters weren't very good. And the egg roll was okay. I also was not provided chop sticks. My mom had the scallops while they tasted good, it was absolutely not worth $58. The ambiance was pretty basic as well. The service not great. We had gone to the Fish Market the night before and had a 10/10 experience and food. Wish we had gone there again honestly. And half the price. We have a friend that just moved into town and decided to give this fairly new place a try (it opened late summer). We're glad we did! Watching this place get renovated, we knew we wanted to go - it's literally ON the water, which always makes for good ambiance whether you're a local or bringing out of town guests. They've got a pretty good menu. Sadly, eggs are in a lot of things that they offer (for example, aioli is traditionally made with oil and these folks, like many American restaurants, use mayonnaise). The waitress we had was VERY nice and quite helpful, but it sounds like they aren't instructed on *what* is in the food and had to ask a few questions of the chef for me - which she did, and we tipped her well for her efforts (and, it IS the holidays, after all). We all ended out ordering the Swordfish tacos (the 'slaw' included in the dish was mayo based, so they served it to me sans the mayo - so it was dry kale and cabbage). The dish is served deconstructed, which is perfect for me because I quite often like to opt out of the taco shells to save on a few calories (and make up for those calories with dessert or an app). We all enjoyed the dish, but I'll admit that the dry slaw I got was quite bland. The taco shells were corn and made in-house, they were delicious. Everyone loved their dish, although I do wish there was something else they could have done with the slaw then serve it to me dry. I ordered a side of Lemon Artichoke Risotto, which was super good! Our dining partner ordered a side of the Crispy Potatoes, which it looked like he enjoyed. Dessert - one of us opted out, one ordered Key Lime Pie, and I ordered a Chocolate Martini. The pie disappeared pretty quickly, so I assume he enjoyed it and I LOVED my chocolate martini. It was perfect! It's located in Seaport Village, so there's parking nearby and is easy to get to from the Seaport Village trolley stop. We didn't use the restrooms while we were there, but the restaurant itself was clean and bright. It likely will get a little noisy during rush times, there wasn't a lot of sound-dampening material. We'll definitely be back - I'm interested in trying their Filet Mignon (my favorite), although I'm hoping they'll sub the mushroom risotto with the lemon asparagus. We definitely recommend them, but if you have allergies, do your research on the menu before you go so that you can ask about allergens and offer a suggestion for a replacement (I cannot tell you how disappointed I was that the cabbage/kale slaw was simply served dry). I took my friend here for a belated birthday celebration. We really wanted somewhere we could take cute pictures together so after seeing a video of this place at sunset on TikTok it seemed perfect. The ocean along with all the natural light being let in the restaurant seemed so picturesque. We made our reservation for 1:00pm on Saturday so of course it was a nightmare trying to find parking in Seaport Village even in their nearby pay lot. Definitely give yourself time to drive around. When we did get to the restaurant we were promptly seated and the waiter even offered to take a picture for us! My friend did say the picture looked like when your mom asks you to pose for a photo and was kinda an awkward angle but it was an example of how kind and accommodating he was throughout our meal. He gave us ample time to look at the menu because we were constantly getting distracted catching up or by the gorgeous view. So when we needed a few more minutes a couple times he was always so polite but would always be sure to check back in soon and not abandon the table. Sometimes restaurants with great views will coast and have mediocre food but that was definitely NOT the case here. We ordered the lemon ricotta soufflé hot cakes, Balboa roll, and tempura rock shrimp to share. The lemon soufflé hotcakes were decadent and they didn't skimp on the blueberries inside. What really puts the dish over the top though is the lemon butter which is rich and creamy but is balanced out perfectly by the citrus. I should warn you I'm a bit of a baby when it comes to spice so those who enjoy heat may disagree with the next part of this review. The Balboa roll although it has spicy mayo is not overpowering. The tempura rock shrimp were my favorite though. Although I did avoid the peppers on top. But, my friend who enjoys heat was also a huge fan of them, peppers and all. They were crispy with the shrimp perfectly cooked on the inside. And avoided that unpleasant fishiness shrimp can sometimes have. I will say it can get a bit warm sitting right by the windows, my back was definitely baking by the end of our meal, so don't be afraid to roll down your shade although you might see less of the view. I'm very disappointed of this place. I found it online and I wanted to try it. I went with my kids today and I asked the waitress if they had plain burgers and she said yes ( this is without looking at the menu because my kids were hungry ) she said yes so I went ahead and got a kids burger and fries (she didn't mentioned they have no kids cheese burgers ) and for my daughter I asked for chicken strips. She also mentioned "oh we also have grilled cheese " and I said no it's fine just the strips and fries. I asked her if they got yellow cheese and she said yes. When the burger came it had white cheese so I told her . She said that it was actually yellow cheese/white cheese . She took the burger back and they scrubbed the cheese out. I ordered some veggie taco platter and it was very spicy . Anyways I never look at my receipts but I saw it and noticed she charged me for a wadyu burger. JUST PLAIN BUN AND MEAT ! I'm very upset because she NEver mentioned that it was going to be a regular burger . I called and spoke to a shift lead. She called back and told me sorry we can't refund, the waitress mentioned it was going to be a wadyu burger (NO SHE DID NOT ) why would I pay $30 for bun and meat with cheese scrubbed off for my 5 yr old !! Doesn't make sense. She also said that I tipped 22% so no I was not going to get a refund. She assumed because of the amount I tipped her that j was lying. I usually leave a good tip because im that way. She also said she spoke to Alberto the manager and he said it would be ridiculous to do a refund . How can he say that if he didn't even spoke to me . I'm not going back to this place. They technically assumed I'm lying and that's not right. Oh yeah she also coached me " next time you go to a restaurant make sure you complain there because it's hard for us to believe you. " she offered me a small dessert next time but no thanks I'm not going back . I was so exited to try it out but I'm sad of how management treated me.
