7 Rings Mocktail - fruity (4 stars)
Daniel C.

For our last dinner in San Diego for Spring Break 2026, we booked Island Prime. Its a large, festive, steak and seafood place on Harbor Island, close to the airport and sitting next to North San Diego Bay. Plenty of self parking for Mon-Tues night. The views of the water and the whole San Diego skyline were great. As for food quality, we has 3 good dishes and 1 epic fail so overall 3 stars. For apps, each person gets a popover, which is excellent with the creamy herbed butter. I recommend the charred octopus if you like more spicy, tangy flavors with Spanish influence. One key reason I chose Island Prime is for their Chicken under the Brick. My 5yo son and I shared this dish and despite being on the dry side, he managed to eat half the dish. The mashed potatoes were herby and firm, which I liked. We also got a side of grilled asparagus - plump and tender. The epic fail was my wife's Halibut Catch of the Day. Prepares blackened, the fish was overcooked and dry. The crab fried rice was drenched in soy sauce and was borderline inedible. She had to eat the fish and rice together to get some sort of balance. Dessert was a partial save - Key Lime Pie was a huge tartlet close to an inch in height. Sweet, crumbly graham cracker crust and smooth, tart filling with pomegranate drizzle. Excellent. Island Prime has been around for a while but if we were to return, its best to stick with scallops or meat dishes.

Was debating on posting thia review because I truly hate not enjoying a restaurant the way I envisioned. However when I took everything into consideration, I felt it to be necessary to highlight the parts we enjoyed and the parts that made me give the 3 stars. Th pros: that view! That view alone is 6/5 stars it was so breathtaking and one of the reasons why we chose to come here. As a person who has always hated mashed potatoes and just recently started getting myself to try and like them these blew me away. So creamy and flavorful and perfect. The bread the give you at the beggining is also quite tasty, slighly sweet and buttery. My husband also said the lobster was probably the best one he's had and the butter container was such a creative gadget. Also the anniversary dessert we were given was rich and really good. The cons: We ordered our steaks medium and while they were quite good and did have a slight pink in the middle of the filet, for the most part it was cooked medium well. We are not ones to send food back so we ate them and figured their medium might be different than what we have previously had. The asparagus I wanted to like so bad and while that citrus lemon flavor was good the bottom of the stalk was not cut off so it was stringy and hard to chew and honestly kind of hard to fully enjoy. The service from our server was also Ok. Not bad but also not great or anything that stood out as we did not seem him a lot. The other staff that filled our water and dropped off our plates were attentive and kind.

I visited here for my second time on 04/01/2026 with a reservation at 5:15pm. We had a party of four. This is still a very popular place. When we sat at that early time, it was still pretty empty; however, when we left at 7pm -- it was almost to 100% capacity. The view remains beautiful, same location, same beautiful view. The sunset is spectacular as you dine out over the water. This time we feel it slipped one star, because the service was just really slow at times. We had a server that we have had before, and we don't blame him; however, it is likely due to the assignment of one too many tables. There were delays of things like 15 minutes before clearing the table and delivery of the dessert menu. Otherwise, the food remained really good. I feel that the prices are reasonable considering the type of restaurant, view, and location. I had the chicken under a brick, which was a delicious bone in chicken breast with potatoes, onion, chili and chimichurri. Yum! The table shared sides of brussel sprouts and mac and cheese. Both were delicious and both were topped with pork belly, so you have to love it!

After a great experience at C-Level, we came back to try Island Prime. Both spots share the same Harbor Island building, kitchen, and Executive Chef , with the same panoramic skyline views. When you walk in, Island Prime is to the right, C-Level to the left. The biggest difference is the vibe. C-Level is casual, lively, and mostly outdoors, while Island Prime is an indoor, more upscale steakhouse . The space is dimly lit and intimate. The menu at Island Prime leans toward high-end steaks and seafood with higher prices, while C-Level offers more casual, California-style dishes. Despite the differences, you can see the shared kitchen influence. Everything we ordered at Island Prime was fresh, perfectly cooked, and just as enjoyable, with the same great service we experienced at C-Level. Overall, a good experience. Great views, relaxing atmosphere, and solid food, especially if you're looking for a more refined alternative to C-Level.

My friends and I went here for a retirement dinner. The wait staff and manager were very friendly and helpful. They had wine specials going on for dinner. The wine was very good and of great value. They gave us a very comfortable booth and the restaurant was welcoming and very elegant. We ordered the Deborah's Brie and shrimp cocktail. It was very flavorful and delicious. The filet mignon with lobster tail was fantastic and the tail was enormous and perfectly cooked. We loved the entire dinner. Staff treated us very well and gave exceptional service. This was a great dining experience with amazing views of the city.

Ambiance was gorgeous. We sat inside but they have a cute outdoor patio overlooking the bay / harbor. Our table was right by a window so view was very pretty. Our server was pleasant. Food was good. We had chicken, pork chops, creamed corn, etc.

I found this place so delightful. The view was spectacular, and they had a wonderful, filling Thanksgiving dinner menu that came in multiple components. Omg, the BREAD!! Was like this popover little delight that was airy and sweet. Good with butter. The Thanksgiving turkey gravy was so goood. I loved the put together. We had mocktails which I didn't think was worth it. I just wanted to feel like we were fancy for Thanksgiving dinner even though I don't drink lol. But the view again so good. The waitress was nice, and there were adult families

Special of the night! A course meal for two that was not on the menu! Tomahawk with mashed potatoes, asparagus and wedge salad with anchovies, paired with some cocktails and wine, the best! We got the best ocean view, best servers and service was fast, easy and exceptional! I Highly recommend!

An absolute exquisite dining experience from beginning to end. I booked reservations here for my husband's birthday which I mentioned when booking. The first thing they did when we sat down was wish him a happy birthday. Each course was phenomenal. Husband had swordfish and a side of asparagus. I had filet trio and calamari steak was our starter. Andrew, our server, was the epitome of high-end customer service. Beautiful views and ambience. We really loved this place and recommend to anyone wanting a nicer dining experience in San Diego

I've been here a few times already and it never disappoints. The most recent was for my mother in law's birthday for an early dinner on a Saturday since she loves the free bread. We were seated in the corner right next to the window with a perfect view of downtown and Coronado. Seriously one of the best spots in the restaurant. We ordered the onion ring tower, calamari, ribeye, chimichurri, mushrooms, and a few other dishes I can't list because I was too busy inhaling them. Everything was delicious. Pricey? Yes. Worth it? Also yes. My wallet cried a little, but my stomach wrote it a thank you card. The service was great too. Our server gave us plenty of time to look over the menu and offered helpful suggestions. He even brought out a slice of chocolate cake for celebrating a birthday. I usually save spots like these for special occasions, so I'm definitely coming back.

Our first time here for my husband's birthday. We had a great time. We enjoyed our food and we really loved the beef tartare. We appreciated Enrique and everyone else' helpfulness and attentiveness, service overall 10/10! We also had a window table facing Coronado, which I loved as well!

Food 10/10.. service 9/10 ambiance 10/10... I came here with my partner for our anniversary and it was top 3 of our best dinner experiences we've had. The view was so incredible, and the service was great.

Island prime I believe does not. It is more indoor fine dining. The other restaurant that is attached called C level has beautiful outdoor seating.

Our reservations were early, arriving on time @ 5:30 it was a bit quiet with only two other tables, but not for long. In no time every single table was filled. The restaurant was busy and the wine was a'flowin'! This quaint and very special restaurant reminds me of a small restaurant in San Diego in the 1980's, "Ciao Bella". It was located downtown on 4th Ave., it was also chef-owned. When you dine at a chef owned restaurant you are most likely destined for greatness, or a great meal! This is the case at Angela's Kitchen 'Carbon', because there is pure authenticity in her dishes and a whole lotta' love delivered in each plate. The subtle, warm decor is welcoming and the music is played at the perfect level. Just the right ambiance. Once seated, you'll be promptly greeted and the attentive wait staff will have your wine delivered pronto. What a selection they have. I started with the prosecco and moved on to the Sangiovese which complimented my pappardelle perfectly. My friend ordered the grilled salmon and had the Montepulciano Abate Pietro. The delivery of their fresh bread with garlicky pesto, and another with tomato, which I think was a focaccia. Just amazing. We asked for olive oil to compliment the bread: it was the very best of quality with a dark Sicilian olive green hue and the smoothness with the polyphenols and antioxidants dancing in my mouth. Yum! I asked for a side of Parmigiano and they brought a nice square ramekin full of finely grated cheese, Perfection!! These are the details that make me fall in love with a restaurant, causing me to return again and again. Both of our entrees were executed perfectly, the vegetables were grilled leaving a slight char, and the salmon was grilled just right leaving a tender center. My pappardelle was dressed in the deepest, richest mushroom + beef cheek fusion of flavors with whispers of some kind of red wine like maybe the Nero d'Avola that they feature on the menu. WoW!! This is a dish that you want to take your time savoring. Every bite surpassed the last, and then a sip of the Sangiovese and I was in fresh pasta heaven. Just when we were winding down and reeling from being overwhelmed by the amazing food, Angela came to our table with cannoli. It too was amazing! This was such a kind and unexpected gesture from the chef/owner. Grazie mille, a domani!

He picked the place, and after I reviewed the menu once he had made the reservation, I was excited to dine here. Even though we were seated on the patio, the first thing I noticed is how LOUD this restaurant is...even outdoors. It's even louder inside because I poked my head in just to see what the decor is like. On the patio, it was so loud, we practically had to shout at one another from across the table just to be heard. It is very distracting, and the noise levels contribute overall to a lack of ambiance. Simply stated, the acoustic here are terrible. The second thing I noticed is how EXPENSIVE this joint is, even for an upscale steakhouse. $22 ($18 plus a $4 surcharge for "loaded") for a loaded baked potato? Come on, now. That's outrageous. For my entree, I ordered the 16-ounce ribeye ($74) with a gorgonzola crust ($8 extra), and it came to my table lukewarm because it had been sitting on the hot plate for too long, so I sent it back. If I'm ordering an $82 piece of meat, it better be delivered to me SIZZLING and cooked properly. When my second steak arrived, it was only a little bit hotter, but not much. In addition, the kitchen gave me a piece of beef that was NOT 16 ounces (more like 12 ounces)...and it was riddled with way too much fat/gristle. To add insult to injury, the chef was quite skimpy with the gorgonzola cheese, so I just let it go. What a travesty when a steakhouse doesn't know how to properly cook and serve beef...and then charges guests an arm and a leg for less-than-mediocre food. To be fair to The Amalfi Llama, the manager on duty did come to my table to personally handle my complaint, and she also served the second steak to me herself. In addition, the restaurant removed the steak from my bill, but by that time, the damage had been done. I won't be returning...ever. When it comes to steakhouses, I'd much rather go to Ruth's Chris, Morton's and The Palm any day of the week...both of which are far more consistent and worth the money.
