If you do it with high quality pork and a place that knows what they're doing. Bone In Ribeye was amazing as well. Cooked perfectly. Horseradish sauce was good but I would prefer it a bit more spicy. They had a bone in New York which you don't see too often so would try next time. Dirty hash is def worth it. Brocollini really good as well. Fries good hut you can get that anywhere so pass for next time. Appetizers were oysters, steak tartare and Caesar salad. Past reviews say steak tartare was table side. This one was not. My partner and I had a 7pm reservation on Wednesday night and after arriving we still had to wait 15-20 minutes before getting seated. The ambiance inside was very nice and really set the mood from the night but the environment was loud so something to keep in mind. Once seated we were helped and our sever was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu! The food was very good overall. We ordered New York strips, the ceaser (on this night it wasn't table side but it typically is), broccolini, dirty hasbrowns and truffle fries! The steak was prepared perfectly and I really enjoyed the side of sauces we were able to try table side (peppercorn, horseradish, bernaise, Bordeaux) I really enjoyed the broccolini and hash rows and thought they complimented the meal perfectly! At the end of our meal I requested a Polaroid photo I had seen taken earlier in the night with another party since we were also celebrating something special and our server graciously called them over, turns out it was the manager that night and he was lovely! The king crab had a slightly fishy edge, though the lemon gelée did a nice job cutting through it. The Caesar was fine, visually striking with the whole lettuce leaves, but honestly I'd prefer it chopped. The trend feels more aesthetic than practical. For mains, we split the NYC strip and the ribeye. Both were cooked well and enjoyable, but neither hit that "wow" moment you hope for at a steakhouse of this caliber. The real showstopper? The Dirty Hashbrowns with trout roe and crème fraîche. Absolutely unhinged in the best way, fun, decadent, different, and completely stole the show. Came in on Valentines day - it was a great experience! Decided to take my significant other here for Valentine's day, I've heard many great things of Born & Raised. Thee food, the ambiance, the overall vibe. We had reservations set and upon arrival we were told it would be a few minutes and that our table had not been set yet. This ended up being about a 15 minute wait, but we proceeded with the night. The menu was a prefix menu with different items you could choose from for each course. EACH COURSE WAS DELICIOUS AND LIVED UP TO THE HYPE. The steak I had ordered was cooked to the perfect temperature I had ordered. I tried an espresso martini for the first time ever and their execution of it impressed me I had to get another. I was also extremely impressed that they had a wide variety of Rip Van Winkle and Pappy Van Winkle bourbons that you could order at an affordable price, you will not find this anywhere I promise. I was however disappointed that we were given a 20% gratuity slapped on top of our bill. We had an incredible server, Clint, who was genuinely one of the main reasons I'd come back. Here is the reason for the missing stars. My husband ordered the rib eye. Medium rare as well with a side of broccolini. His steak was ok but was lacking tenderness which seems like it was more medium than anything. We believe it was probably just lacking tenderness. For the price of the ribeye, we expected a much better steak. The bread was dry and not tasty at all. You can spread the butter on it but it doesn't do much. Our dinner ended with a complimentary macaroon. It was cute with a single candle to blow out. I would definitely recommend this steakhouse to others. Amazing experience last night for my birthday celebration. We arrived a few minutes early and were greeted warmly by the hostess. She saw it was my birthday and wished me happy birthday. She directed us to the bar to wait. We got whiskey smash and espresso martini- both delicious! The manager Daniel sat us with a special menu printed with my name on it. However the absolute star of the show was the wagyu sampler. The first two rows were amazing, however upon tasting the last two rows of meat, it made me think I had never actually had steak before if that's what it's supposed to taste like. I think we actually laughed out loud at how delicious it was. We got a side of Mac and cheese too which was delicious . As a total Mac and cheese snob I take everything into consideration - cook of the noodle, sauce consistency, and sauce taste. While the taste was a bit more mold and cohesively creamy rather than a super flavorful Mac with a ton of different cheeses, it was incredible and felt more elevated than Mac you would get at a brewery for instance. This place is located in the heart of Little Italy in San Diego, which means the parking will be a nightmare. There are places that do offer valet parking but you're looking to pay at least $40-$50. Tips on parking is I just get a cheap parking on SpotHero app ahead of time and you'll only have to pay maybe eight to $10 for the whole day. This place is where you would have to make a reservation at least a month ahead if you want a specific date and time that you want to go. They have downstairs upstairs and a rooftop area. The vibe and the decoration from upstairs and downstairs is very different. The upstairs vibe is more casual and downstairs is more intimate. Unfortunately, this time when I've got their spicy margarita, it was so bad that I actually had to take it back. Which is rare.. how can you screw up Margarita?? Besides the drink, food we have gotten here were phenomenal. This is one of the best filet mignon that I've ever had. And that is saying a lot. I do think that their side dishes were mediocre nothing special, but their steak was on point. I would say the price wasn't outrageous compared to other steak places. I'm a big fan of dry aged steak and this tasted like your run of the mill grocery store steak. It needed more salt and pepper. They gave us 3 sauces and I didn't care for any of them. Tried Born & Raised for my first Michelin-star experience, and overall it was such a good time. We had a reservation and were seated inside, but unfortunately our table was right where there was a sun glare. I did ask if we could move, and they said everything was booked, but no one ended up being seated next to us the entire time, which was a little disappointing... That being said, the food definitely lived up to the experience. We shared the tomahawk steak and it was cooked to perfection, sooo good. I was able to snag a last minute reservation for a party of 4 for dinner on a Thursday. Parking is always tough so make sure you give yourself time to find a spot or do valet. I've been here a few times and Uni pasta is always delicious. The bone marrow and snails were also great. I'm a sucker for French onion soup but wasn't a huge fan of theirs unfortunately. For our entrees we decided to do family style with the 18oz ribeye with broccolini and mashed potatoes as sides. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium rare and it was just the right amount to split with our party of 4. The broccolini was good, spicier than I expected. I really enjoyed the mashed potatoes, so creamy and delicious. For dessert we ordered the dark forest cake, which was decadent and not too sweet. But things started to slip with the appetizers. I ordered the 6 oz petite filet, medium. It arrived well done. Not slightly over--fully over. After sending it back (which the staff handled politely), I waited another 20 minutes for a replacement. By the time it came out, everything else at the table was long finished. At that point, it's less about the steak and more about the experience--and a small gesture like comping or adjusting the dish would've gone a long way. Unfortunately, that didn't happen. As for the rest: the uni spaghetti, which we were told is a standout, was surprisingly underwhelming--lacking depth and flavor. The roasted mushrooms followed the same note: visually appealing, but flat on taste. Now credit where it's due--the Kurobuta pork chop? Incredible. Juicy, flavorful, and easily the highlight of the night. I was fully locked in on that plate and didn't care who noticed. The bone portion of the chop had me in a chokehold and I loved every minute of it. Overall, Born & Raised feels like a place that leans heavily on its ambiance and reputation. We ordered the dirty hash browns, balsamic onions (must order), bread, two steaks medium rare (which we both agreed we would probably order medium next time), and the table side Caesar salad -- although they weren't offering the table side portion that night. Everything we ate was amazing except we thought the steaks were a little bit chewy (personal preference?) They provided us with a handwritten note congratulating us on our anniversary, and we received a Wu-Tang symbol macaron and two espresso martini shots that said "happy anniversary" to finish the night. Updating my review to five stars!!! My friend flew in from Hawaii so we could celebrate our birthdays a week early, and I knew she would love the art deco aesthetic! Our whole experience was A+! We had a reservation for the main dining room but really wanted to sit upstairs, and the hosts and our server were so amazing with a compromise. We had dinner in the main restaurant, and they reserved two spots at the bar for sunset (they even put the little "reserved" gold plate at our spots). Our server and the bartender upstairs were top echelon for service. They put on the show and really made us feel VIP. Big shout out to Matt (Mateusz) and the red-headed male bartender. The food was amazing! We shared the steak sampler, potato puree, and broccolini. The steak came out on a stone and that kept it hot the entire time we were chatting and slowly eating to take in all the flavors and experience. Came to Born & Raised in San Diego for a weekend birthday trip for my boyfriend, and it 100% lived up to the hype. I picked this steakhouse because of the great reviews and it did not disappoint. The service was amazing every server knew it was his birthday, said happy birthday to him, and made the whole experience feel really special. Even though the restaurant was crowded, it didn't feel cramped at all and we had enough space to enjoy our meal comfortably. We started with the potato purée, which was insanely creamy and honestly the best I've ever had. The roasted mushrooms were next, and the first bite was so flavorful and the more you ate, the more intense and delicious the flavor got. For mains, we had the 14oz New York steak cooked medium rare, which was delicious, but the star of the night was the 8oz filet cooked medium. Birthday weekend so treating myself! This place has been on my list for years... I called to make a reservation for one - since I like to dine solo for my bday but when I called they told me that there's a happy hour weeknights from 3-4:30! So I got there right at 3, and 3 parties were in line already! I was seated at the upstairs bar. I guess my one complaint is that they don't have mocktails on their happy hour menu. I was bummed about that. I ordered the pork skewers and steak skewers. But when they arrived there were only 3-4 pieces of meat per skewer. So I added the Philip cheesesteak to my order. The pork skewers were fantastic!!!! The steak ones were not bad. The cheesesteak - I don't like the cheese on top. And the bread was like regular bread. So I wouldn't really recommend it. Someone dining next to me ordered the hashbrowns. They were unique - rectangular and crispy. Not bad - but not my favorite. I have heard the spaghetti there is amazing. Unfortunately, it fell short, specifically in the one area this restaurant prides itself on most. We came to Born and Raised to celebrate my partner's birthday. To be clear, many parts of this experience were exceptional. However, the TL;DR is this: come here for drinks, appetizers, and dessert. Do not come here for the steak. I repeat: do NOT come here for the steak. After comparing notes with several foodie friends who've visited over the past year, the consensus is consistent. The meat is subpar and wildly overpriced, while everything else is outstanding. When more than half of your bill is attributed to beef alone and that portion disappoints, the overall experience suffers, especially given the "San Diego's premier steakhouse" branding. SERVICE: 5/5 Once seated, the service was phenomenal. Our server, (Trevor? Travis? I can't remember for sure) was attentive, personable, paced the meal perfectly, and gave excellent recommendations. Truly top-tier hospitality. There was a slightly awkward transition at the start when we were directed to wait at the bar for our table, but it wasn't a major negative. Just a small disconnect compared to how excellent the rest of the service was. ATMOSPHERE: 5/5 Absolutely stunning. Every detail, from decor to uniforms to lighting, was intentional and dialed in. You really do feel like you're stepping into a curated dining experience. DRINKS: 5/5 ($14-$18 each) I still dream about these cocktails. Full stop. We tried several drinks including the Carl's Club, Chet Baker, Espresso Martini, Whiskey Smash, the Old Fashioned, and Dark n Stormy, and every single one was a 5/5. The Carl's Club may be the best cocktail I've ever had. The wine list is also extensive. If you're coming for drinks, this is very promising. FOOD: 3/5 Now for the food. The highs were incredibly high! And the lows, unfortunately were painfully low. Bread ($9): 5/5 Warm, fluffy, buttery, and delicious. Dry Aged Meatball ($24): 5/5 Outstanding. Served over polenta and packed with flavor. If I had to order one food item with drinks, this would be it. Broccolini ($16): 5/5 Bright, crisp-tender, and well seasoned. It was a nice way to break up the heavy meal. Mac & Cheese ($17): 5/5 Order this. Dense, oval pasta that almost feels gnocchi-like, paired with a fantastic cheese blend. Sweet Potato Cheesecake ($18?): 5/5 Truly exceptional. Balanced, decadent, and memorable. Even my partner, who doesn't typically like dessert, loved this. Complimentary Birthday Macaron ($0): 5/5 A thoughtful and delicious surprise! Honestly, they should sell these in bulk. Now, unfortunately, the meat. This section weighs heavily because over $400 of our bill came from the following two items, both of which fell far short. Steak Sampler Platter ($160): 3/5 A great concept, but poor execution. One cut had a clear line of gristle running through the center. Not fat, but chewy tendon. Since the steaks are pre-sliced by the kitchen, this should never have left the pass. Half the platter was disappointing. The other half was just steak. 40oz Tomahawk ($245): 2/5 The presentation was impressive. Selecting the raw meat tableside and having it carved for us was fun and fitting for a birthday. Unfortunately, the steak itself was tough, flavorless beyond char, and also had gristle running across a big portion of it. My partner had a few bites and didn't even want leftovers. I've cooked better steaks from Ralph's for 10% of the cost. FINAL THOUGHTS With over $400 spent on **meat alone**, I expected FAR more. For that reason, I cannot recommend Born and Raised as a steakhouse. You'd be much better off going to Cowboy Star or even Ruth Chris's. That said, if your goal is cocktails, appetizers, sides, dessert, or happy hour, this place absolutely can deliver. Just don't go for the steak. read more

Came here to celebrate my birthday and it did not disappoint!! Seated outdoor at our reservation time. Sat in a booth with a beautiful view of the skyline. Started with espresso martinis, garlic bread, and a cheeseburger. Cheeseburger melts in your mouth. Garlic bread was so light and tasty. Espresso martini was so so delicious!! Then got the beef wellington (for 2 people) and a side of hash browns and mac and cheese. Talk about elevating hash browns! We were so full and had to take a few boxes. They wrote a nice card and gifted a macaron for my birthday. 12/10 recommend! read more

What a lovely restaurant! The vibe of the restaurant was great! From the moment of check in, everyone was so warm and inviting. We celebrated two birthdays and prior to the reservation, the restaurant reached out for the names of the birthday celebrants. I wasn't sure what that was about, but when we sat down, they provided personalized menus with our name. We ended up ordering the filet, the pastrami sandwich, the table side Caesar salad (which for some reason they couldn't do table side), and the dirty hashbrowns. Between all those, the hashbrowns were the highlight of the meal. Everything was good, but I will have dreams about the hashbrowns. Although we were so full and did not order dessert, they still brought us a large size macaron for our birthdays. Gorgeous ambiance but that's about it. Martinis are tiny. I chose this place for my bday dinner and the ribeye was good but I came for the tableside Caesar...When I excitedly ordered it, they said they weren't doing tableside that night. BUMMER! Okay well, you can't win them all but when the Caesar came out from the back and it was pretty bland, very disappointing.
