We came here for a birthday celebration, and what an amazing time we had! Bacari offers a fantastic 90-minute all-you-can-drink happy hour--$35 for beer and wine or $40 for well cocktails. Such a great deal! A special shoutout to Charlie and Daniel, who were absolutely wonderful! The music could have had a little more bass and energy, but we still had an incredible time. The food was amazing, delicious, and came out quickly! The drinks started off a little slow, but I think they weren't quite prepared for our fun and lively crowd! Once they got into the groove, everything was fantastic, and by the end of the night, we couldn't have been happier. My only suggestion would be to let guests know upfront if gratuity is automatically added for parties of five or more. We absolutely would have tipped generously regardless, but a little transparency when splitting the bill would have been appreciated. Overall, we had an AMAZING time! I was debating between giving three or four stars, but ultimately settled for three based on my friend and I's experience. Getting a reservation here is a must as this establishment is always busy every weekend: I'm fortunate my friend got a reservation early because I distinctly heard the host saying the wait without a reservation was 3 hours, and I believed it when we were brought to our table and it was practically a full house. Our first server was really quick to attend to us and take care of us while our main server was on break, so I was really grateful to her for getting our drink and food orders in quick. They ask if you want your dishes to come out in a certain order, but my friend and I didn't have a preference. I was pleasantly surprised with how quick the food came out and it was really delicious. The béarnaise sauce compliments the flat iron steak well. I probably could have gone without having the crudo: the seasoning on it was nice but maybe not nice enough for me to order it again. Getting the check surprisingly took the longest. We didn't know who our main server looked like, but when he finally came around and asked if we were doing okay, we said yes. He was quick to leave after and I'm pretty sure he thought we were still waiting for our food. I wish he would have asked us if we were still waiting for food or waiting for our check because he was really hard to call over and ask for the check: I was raising my hand up and everything and it weirdly felt his field of vision was going everywhere except my hand. It didn't help we were tucked in the corner, but it was still equally frustrating. I think coming here can be a hit or miss. You're paying for the ambiance and the decor, and you're also paying in your own patience due to the busy service. It's a place you should definitely try at least once and make your own impressions from there whether it's worth the price point. In my personal opinion, I don't think place hits home for me and that's okay. I'm sure going with more people is more exciting, but the bill obviously racks up depending on how many dishes you want share with the group. I'm still debating if I would come back. read more

Everything is delicious here! I suggest making a reservation because it is busy. They have a second level as well. I loved the crudo it is very flavorful while still tasting fresh. Had my early birthday celebration with my girls at Bacari, & I already knew this was going to be the perfect spot because they have an all-you-can-drink option! Our server, Kadianne, took care of us & she was THE BEST! She constantly checked up on our table, made sure we had everything we needed, & explained the menu to us since it was our first time there. She was so welcoming & gave us such amazing service that we even added extra on top of the gratuity because she truly deserved it! The ambiance was amazing too! We came to Bacari for my sister-in-law's birthday celebration, and overall we had such a lovely experience! I booked about a month in advance, and I'm glad I did because the restaurant was completely packed. The space itself is adorable. It has a cozy vintage feel with several different seating areas, including indoor and outdoor seating, a second floor, and even a small balcony. The whole atmosphere is really cute and perfect for a birthday or girls' night. We were a group of seven, and I will say the first floor--especially the indoor area--is VERY loud. The outdoor area seemed a little better. We could still hear each other, but there was definitely some yelling across the table. It's also quite dark inside, which adds to the ambiance but can make taking pictures a little tricky unless you use flash. The food was actually pretty good overall. Since it's tapas-style, we ordered a lot of different dishes and honestly tried so many that it's hard to remember everything! The absolute standout for me was the stuffed mushrooms--they were so good that we ordered a second one. I also really liked the cauliflower. The falafel and hummus were both good as well. I don't eat meat, so I can't really comment on the meat dishes, but there were plenty of vegetarian options to choose from. We also tried the pear pizza, which was definitely an interesting choice. The dough itself was really good, but the toppings had a lot going on and were a little sweet. I think it's a fun option if you're in the mood to be adventurous and try different flavor combinations, but probably not the one to order if you want a more classic pizza. A huge shout-out to our server, Siena! She was seriously the sweetest and made the night so much better. She was extremely helpful with the tapas-style menu, where you order several dishes and they come out as they're ready. We were actually celebrating my sister-in-law's birthday as well as another friend's birthday, and Siena was so accommodating with everything I asked for. She even brought us additional candles because our table was so dark. Such thoughtful, excellent service! The pricing was also pretty reasonable and didn't feel overly expensive for the atmosphere and location. Parking in North Park is always a little challenging, but there is a parking structure almost directly across the street. The entrance is somewhat tricky to find because you have to go around toward the back of the building, but once you find it, parking was only about $5 and very convenient. Overall, we had a really fun and pleasant birthday celebration. Great vibe, good food, excellent service, and a very cute setting. My only small downsides would be the noise level and how dark it can get, but neither ruined the experience for us. Definitely would come back! read more

My friend and I finally got to try Bacari for brunch on a Saturday morning. After seeing good reviews, we were super excited to try the newest and hottest restaurant in SD. The restaurant itself is absolutely gorgeous and it has to be one of the most stunning interiors in the area. We ordered a few things (they recommend 1-2 dishes per person) as well as some of their specialty iced lattes with oat milk. My banana brulee iced latte was good, however i could hardly taste the banana. It was tasty nonetheless and the espresso was smooth. We also ordered the bacari pancakes, avocado toast, and beef bureka. The pancakes were the standout - super fluffy, doughy, and the homemade berry compote was delicious. The avocado toast is on more of a seedy bar rather than bread, it didn't have too much flavor and the texture was seedy and not my favorite. The side salad + pickled onions were good though. I enjoyed the ambiance overall, but it was extremely hot inside and there was little airflow. Granted, this was during a week with high humidity...but it was honestly cooler outside than it felt while dining in. Our group of 4 tried several small dishes, eaten "family style" as they came out. I took advantage of their 90-minute all-you-can-drink deal and just did the basic option with sangria, beer, and wine, which was plenty for me. I tried both the sparkling sangria and regular sangria (they have the same base) and really enjoyed both. Everything is tapas-style, so between 2 people, we ordered 6 different dishes to share. My favorites were definitely the pork belly and stuffed mushrooms. Those two specifically I would HIGHLY recommend and would absolutely order again. We also got the bread pudding for dessert and that was SO good and surprisingly memorable. My boyfriend ordered a couple cocktails off the menu (the Love Letter and Tokyo Sunset) and enjoyed both, but the Love Letter was definitely his favorite. The ambiance is also really nice. Still, it's a fun vibe and reasonably comfortable. The menu wasn't overwhelming but had a healthy selection. I recall the waiter saying something about them preferring we order multiple courses which we did but they all sort of came out randomly which was somewhat odd. The food was all good though. The beet gnocchi was unusual - so small we had to ask to confirm what the dish was but it was tasty. The watermelon wasn't my favorite: far too much whipped feta. My favorite dish was the glazed pork belly followed by the brussel sprouts. I do feel like there was plenty more I would like to try and they had more fun drinks... The stuffed mushroom was my absolute favorite! The five-cheese blend, toasted pecans, walnut pesto, Parmesan, and parsley all came together perfectly. Definitely a must order! The fried chicken sliders were another favorite crispy cornbread crust, juicy chicken, and so much flavor from the pickled cucumber and caper-kalamata aioli. Came here for a friend's birthday to try out their 90 minute unlimited drinks! It was easy to book reservations online for our party of 5. Since I was the DD I got two mocktails (The Blushing Botanica which had non-alcoholic gin with strawberry, yuzu, lemongrass and shiso, and the Socal Staple which was a tajin watermelon mocktail) both were delicious and my friends ended up getting 7 rounds each that night xD OUR SERVER ARTHUR WAS AMAZING for recommendations and graciously letting us extend our stay past the 90 minutes so my girlfriends could get toasty. We started off with House Baked Bread and Cured Olives (and Almonds), these weren't memorable so I'd skip on these. For cold dishes we got the Watermelon (watermelon with whipped feta, pickled rinds, and pistachio. DELICIOUS, I loved the pickled rinds), Crudo (which I think was yellowtail?), Shrimp Ceviche (came with chips, but I thought it was just okay), Little Gem Salad (one of my favorite dishes of the night, I loved the bacon bits). For hot dishes we got the Flat Iron Steak (everybody's favorite!! This was cooked perfectly and had so much flavor), Chicken Schnitzel (very crunchy, I also enjoyed this one), Scallop Medallions (overcooked, skip), Mediterranean Street Corn (it was okay), Glazed Pork Belly (it came with sauce but the actual meat itself was a little dry. Definitely squeeze the lemon over it to brighten up the flavors, that was a key recommendation from the busser serving the food), Brussel Sprouts (it was okay), and the Asian Pear and Brie Pizza with Bacon added ontop. I actually really enjoyed the pizza but it was a little too sweet for one of the girls' personal taste. My gripe was that it was a little too liquidy so it made the pizza soggy. I loved it though and the added Bacon was clutch to have a mix of sweet and savory. We didn't opt for dessert because we brought our own birthday cake which they kindly put in the fridge for us until we were ready! So excited to try this newly opened restaurant. Walking in I found myself transported to the French quarter in New Orleans, with wrought iron and dulled colors. We walked to the beautiful upstairs space, but couldn't find 3 stools at the bars so ended up back downstairs. It ended up being fine, since the bartenders were quite attentive and it's always fun to watch the action. I started with a sangria, nothing fancy. We ordered the olives and marcona almonds, crudo and steak. It was recommended to order 2-3 plates to share per person. But this was more than enough. The crudo was good. The barramundi came with a thin slice of lemon on each piece of fish. I found the flat iron steak a bit chewy and not cooked to medium doneness as we requested. It was served over bernaise sauce with zucchini. Our friend ordered scallops, and she thoroughly enjoyed them. Ambiance was fun but very loud inside, decor is New Orleans and there's a covered patio and seating at the bar. The spacing inside was very tight and we kept getting knocked by those passing by both diners and servers - not ideal. We've been to Bacari several times, and while the food has consistently been good, we've unfortunately had issues with the service every single time. I completely understand that Bacari is a newer, popular restaurant and that it can get extremely busy. However, on each of our visits, it has felt like our table was forgotten about at some point during the meal. The most recent visit was especially frustrating. We had a reservation for a larger party, and even after everyone had arrived, we waited quite a while for a table. When we asked the front staff for an update, we felt that the response was unnecessarily condescending. We were eventually seated about 20-30 minutes after our reservation time. We also purchased the 90-minute open bar. Our seats were right next to the bar, so we could see our drinks sitting there while our server walked past them multiple times. Unfortunately, we didn't receive our drinks until about 30 minutes after our 90-minute open bar period had already started. I understand that the restaurant was very busy, but it was frustrating to watch drinks that were already prepared sit at the bar for such a long time. The food has been good every time we've visited, which makes the service issues even more disappointing. At this point, I'm not sure we'll return, unless we try going during a much less busy time. I was so excited to check out Bacari, after years of wondering what would be next to True North, I was so excited to see a new restaurant open up. My friend Shay made reservations for us to check he and his girl friend had come for dinner before and were so impressed he wanted to check out their brunch and I was so excited. The restaurant itself reminded me of rustic streets of Italy, which is definitely fitting, I love the cobblestone floors but definitely hard to walk on if you're wearing heels. Our server was really friendly and let us take our time ordering food. The plates are on the smaller side, I opted to order the crab cake benedict and the best cake with ice cream, I wasn't in the mood to drink so I just had a coke. When our food arrived I was pretty excited to see how quickly things came out, an order of fries that we shared and some ceviche I got to try, I really liked the flavor from my crab cake, I loved how citrusy the hollandaise was and I thought for the size it was really crab filled. I know some of my friends had issues with the food inconsistences but my only issue was towards the end, I was waiting for my cake, my friends ordered food after our initial order came out and I was still waiting for mine to the point of having to ask our server what the status was on the cake. Initially she asked if I wanted it all at the same time and I said yes. When it finally did come I was a little underwhelmed. the crispy bacon did not pair well with the cake and the consistency of the cake was just off, it was very sandy? It felt like what I would think kinetic sand feels if you ate it. I would probably say no to that cake, I wish I had ordered another savory dish. The service was AWFUL. Really nice guy but just insanely slow. Which is a bummer because the food was phenomenal and the ambiance is excellent. Extremely cute place and every single dish we got was really really good. We had a party of 5 and three of us arrived before the other two. We got served right away and we ordered a few things, no complaints there. Ten minutes later, the other two people in our party arrived. We waited for 25 minutes before we could finally get someone's attention and asked to put in drinks and food. Which means not only did they not notice half our party arrive, they also didn't check on us for 35 minutes. The food came out pretty quickly but the drinks ($27 cocktail btw) didn't come out for another 35 minutes. Literally as we were finishing our last plate. We noticed they didn't bring the beer so we stopped the server again (since NO ONE has come to our table without us stopping them to ask for things) and he said that the bar didn't tell him, but they were apparently out of that beer so we ordered a different one and it took another ten minutes. We finally stopped him again to ask for the check and he said he was going to send us out a free dessert (probably bc the service was so slow). Well, we waited over 30 minutes and it never came, so we just left. Honestly so disappointing because we really wanted to like this place. Snagged a door-bust Resy on a Saturday morning. Service was friendly and all the servers help each other get orders in and plates and drinks out. Tapas-style Mediterranean food with great flavors. Pretty extensive list of plates and suggest 2-3 per person. We enjoyed both the Bacarita (watermelon marg) and the Olena Heat (think health shot with mezcal) and both were delicious and well-balanced. For food: -Turkish Egg: sous vide with labneh, crunchy shallots, hazelnut and pistachio chili crisp with some warm and toasty sesame flatbread; loved this -Beef Bureka: like a Turkish hot pocket with delicious savory beef and 6 minute eggs-just like I like them -Bacari Fries: smothered fries with a fried egg on top -Shawarma Tacos: actually really enjoyed these, sumac spice, not too complicated with chicken and shredded cabbage; comforting and familiar with a Turkish twist; comes with either 3 or 4 -Charred broccoli: great as a side but this came out first -Chicken Shnitzel: crispy fried chicken with a an arugula salad; great little dish They suggest you order all the plates at once so they can course it out for you. Lots of different dishes to choose from and they have a little bar area upstairs for the evening and a couple bathrooms upstairs if the ones downstairs are busy. Vibes perfect, food incredible, service great! I was so overwhelmed trying to decide what to get from this menu and from reading everyone's reviews, it seemed like everything was good - and it was! The Moroccan cigars were definitely the favorite, but everything was delicious. Shoutout to Zoe who brought out champagne and dessert! She made our night special. The only hiccup was that the dessert came out about 20 minutes after the hummus, and we still had another dish to come. We waited another 20 and when it didn't come, ate the dessert and about 10 minutes after we finished they brought our last dish (chicken sliders). I definitely assumed that was not coming, but they boxed it and comped it which was above what we expected! We sat on the upstairs balcony and felt like we had private dining, it was lovely for our date night. I've been wanting to check this place out ever since it opened a few months ago, and I finally made a reservation for an early Friday happy hour/dinner. I remember when this location used to be a brunch spot years ago, although I couldn't really remember what the inside looked like. The new space is beautiful, with plenty of seating both indoors and outside. The interior definitely has more of a vibe, with dark wood accents and a full bar. I imagine it would be especially nice later in the evening once it gets dark, although we were there before sunset. Our only hiccup was the initial seating. We were placed at a table tucked in the back that felt like it barely fit in the space. It was so tight that I could hardly pull my chair out. We asked if we could move, and were first offered a table outside right by the entrance, which was pretty busy with people constantly walking in and out. I asked if there was anything else available inside, and they were able to accommodate us in the main dining room near the bar, which we really appreciated. The restaurant was already bustling, which wasn't surprising for a Friday evening. The menu is divided into hot and cold dishes, and we ordered the crudo, kale salad, Brussels sprouts, lamb hummus, and sea bass. Everything came out incredibly fast. Even though it's a tapas-style restaurant, the portions were actually generous compared to many other tapas spots where the plates can be tiny. Our favorite dish was definitely the Brussels sprouts. The creamy pomegranate sauce was absolutely delicious. The sea bass was also pretty good and paired with the same pomegranate molasses cream sauce. The crudo was fresh, light, and refreshing with za'atar and bright lemon flavors. The restaurant was already bustling, which wasn't surprising for a Friday evening. One thing we did notice is that it gets pretty loud inside. It wasn't the music--it was more the overall noise level from conversations echoing throughout the dining room. We found ourselves having to speak louder than usual to hear each other across the table. It's not necessarily a negative if you're looking for a lively atmosphere, but something to keep in mind if you're hoping for a quieter dinner. Overall, we had a great first experience. I've been to a couple of the LA locations so was excited to try North Park, and it did not disappoint! Me and a girlfriend went on a Friday evening without reservations, we were told the wait could be up to 2 hours, but bar seating was first come first serve. We ended up snagging two bar seats after an hour of waiting at another bar. We did the 90 min open bar which is soo worth it in my opinion! We started with the burrata caprese and the crudo-both must tries! We also had the chicken schnitzel and steak, both a MUST!!! Cooked to perfection truly. If you have room for dessert, I highly recommend the best cake!! We had the best bartenders who were extremely nice and attentive. I cannot wait to come back and dine!! read more

I've been wanting to try Bacari for the longest time. The Mediterranean-inspired tapas menu sounded right up my alley, so we finally made reservations the night before. There were actually a lot of reservation times still available, which surprised me, but I'd still recommend making one just to be safe. Since it's in North Park, we parked in the garage directly across the street. It was about $5, but if you don't mind walking a little farther, you can probably find street parking around the neighborhood. When we arrived, they let us know they were running about 10 minutes behind on reservations. No big deal. The front of the restaurant is absolutely beautiful, so I spent the extra time taking pictures. The menu definitely takes a few minutes to look through because there are so many options. Bacari recommends ordering two to three plates per person to share, which I think is the best way to experience the menu. They also offer a weekday happy hour from 5 to 6 p.m. with discounted food and drinks. We definitely ordered more than we needed because everything sounded so good. We ended up getting the House Baked Baguette, Barramundi Crudo, Moroccan Cigars, Charred Broccoli, Lamb Hummus, Mediterranean Street Corn, Sea Bass, Glazed Pork Belly, and for my drink I ordered the "It's a Bird, It's a Plane." I wasn't really sure what to expect from the cocktail because the ingredient list sounded all over the place, but it ended up drinking more like a fruity punch. It was light, refreshing, and really easy to drink. We were seated at one of the two-person tables, so I was a little worried we'd run out of room with everything we ordered. Surprisingly, the kitchen paced each dish really well, so the table never felt crowded. I really appreciated that because some restaurants don't think about timing when serving tapas. The only downside was the chairs. They fit the aesthetic, but after sitting for a while they weren't the most comfortable. We started with the House Baked Baguette because I'd heard so many people recommend it. The garlic oil was delicious, especially with the roasted garlic, but the bread itself was only slightly warm and a little harder than I expected. It wasn't bad, but I'd probably skip it next time. The Moroccan Cigars absolutely lived up to the hype. Crispy on the outside, packed with flavor on the inside, and paired perfectly with the tangy pickled onions. The toum crema completely stole the show. We found ourselves dipping other dishes into it because it was that good. My favorite dish of the night was easily the crudo. It disappeared in what felt like two minutes. Everything tasted incredibly fresh. The fish was delicate and buttery. The lemon added just the right amount of brightness, and the herbs tied everything together perfectly. The Charred Broccoli had a nice char, but the harissa tahini leaned a little too salty for me. Funny enough, dipping it into the leftover Moroccan Cigars sauce completely changed the dish. We enjoyed it much more that way. We also tried the Lamb Hummus after hearing so many good things about it. The pita was warm and fluffy, although I wish it had been toasted a little more. Unfortunately, neither of us loved the hummus itself. We both enjoy hummus and lamb, but something felt off to us. The Sea Bass was another standout. The skin was perfectly crispy while the fish stayed flaky and buttery inside. Every bite with the corn, shishito peppers, sauce, and a squeeze of the grilled lemon was incredible. Definitely don't skip the grilled lemon because it really brightens the whole dish. The Mediterranean Street Corn was good, but it didn't wow me like some of the other dishes. It reminded me of a Mediterranean version of elote. I liked the crispy shallots, but I was hoping the hazelnut pistachio chili crunch would stand out a little more. By this point we were getting pretty full. We had actually finished every dish on the table before the Glazed Pork Belly arrived. It took about another 15 minutes, although our server checked in a few times to let us know it was still coming. Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment of the night. Some pieces were so overcooked they were difficult to chew, while others were noticeably burnt. Looking back at my photos with the flash on, you can really see how dark some of the pork was. It just wasn't enjoyable, especially after waiting longer for it than any other dish. Our server was wonderful throughout the meal. She checked on us often and asked what we thought of the pork belly. I was honest and told her it tasted burnt and a little dry. Without us even asking, she immediately offered to remove it from the bill, which I really appreciated. That level of service definitely left a good impression. Between the huge menu, happy hour, and brunch offerings, I already know I'll be back because there are still so many dishes I want to try. I think Bacari is a great addition to North Park. read more

The lamb hummus is a MUST get! So flavorful with fresh tender pita. The Moroccan Cigars were delicious and the pesto with the burrata was excellent. I had my doubts about "the best cake" because all of their other desserts sounded better to me, but the best cake lived up to its name! Do not hesitate to order it. Love that it was complementary as we were celebrating a birthday. Always a nice touch. I would order everything again except my friends were not impressed by the ceviche and the Mac n cheese was less cheesy and more of a white sauce in my opinion. Very good service and cool atmosphere. I will be back. Love that it's small plates so you can try lots of different things with a group. read more

Bacari is an awesome spot for date nights, and has a menu that suits all dietary restrictions. Though it's supposed to be tapas, we found the portions to be generous! My favorite was the sabich. Service was excellent! read more
