    Special Vermicelli Bowl
    Helen H.

The location is within a strip mall and parking wasn't too difficult when we went in the morning. Service was minimal. Rolls are popular as their name is literally spring roll. I decided to go with the special vermicelli bowl instead- pork, chicken, grilled shrimp, and egg roll. I didn't care for the fish sauce or the peanut sauce. I would also preferred the meat to have more of a charred flavor. The plate was average, but I was quite hungry and had no problem finishing it. We did order the special goi cuon to go. I didn't know what was special about it until later. There's a fried spring roll inside the fresh spring roll. It wasn't crunchy anymore when we ate it though.

Goi Con is that tiny neighborhood spot that operates with the confidence of a national chain that somehow forgot to build the other locations. They've got the swagger of a place that assumes everyone in America is already fully invested in the roll lifestyle. You walk in and they greet you like you're returning to your preferred membership tier. The menu reads like the product catalog of a company that went public on the strength of one idea: roll everything. Summer rolls, spring rolls, egg rolls, pho rolls. They don't present these like innovations. They present them like household staples. Like you've been packing pho rolls in your kids' lunchboxes for years and they're just helping you restock. The pho is solid, the kind of dependable bowl that would absolutely anchor a fast casual chain if they ever decided to expand into airports. But the roll menu is where they flex. It's massive, borderline corporate, like someone in the back is running quarterly R and D on new fillings. Every option feels like a limited time offer you saw advertised during a football game. And because the place is so small, the whole experience feels like you've stumbled into the flagship store of a brand that doesn't exist anywhere else. A little test kitchen disguised as a neighborhood joint. You're not just ordering lunch. You're participating in a soft launch for a lifestyle they assume the rest of the country is already living.

Sugarcane shrimp crispy snack spring roll

The name of the place means spring roll in Vietnamese, and they definitely do them right! It's my go-to place for a quick bite especially when going to the zoo or Balboa Park. Everyone I've recommended the place to absolutely loves it too. I've only sat down and eaten there a couple times, and so far, everything I've sampled was really delicious. Only complaint would be that it's a little more expensive than I'm used to, but it is really good quality and authentic. My favorite thing to get is the sugarcane shrimp with crispy snack spring roll, and I can devour 3-4 of them in one sitting. I love the crunch mixed with the fresh veggies and the flavor of the shrimp. The dipping sauce is super yummy too, and they dont skimp--they give you a whole container per roll.

I went back again to try their noodle dishes - Pho Beef Special and Special Vermicelli Bowl. And wow, I was thoroughly impressed by the noodle dishes! The pho was very fragrant even though it was takeout. The broth warmth my soul after I heated it up at home. It wasn't as hearty as other places but was still comforting. The amount of protein was also plentiful. YUM. The only downside (not really a downside) was the type of noodles that were used. They were the thicker noodles that's I didn't care for as I prefer the thinner ones. The vermicelli bowl was beautifully prepared. It came with two sauces: one peanut and one fish sauce. The only downside was the shrimp! They were quite small. But overall, the entirety of the dish was delicious! I do think the next time I visit, I would mix and match with the different items the restaurant offers rather than sticking to one specific item such as only the Combos or just the soups. The variety really gives a better experience!

This is definitely my go-to spot for fried egg banh mi! Must admit it's been a while since I've tried their pho, but their spring rolls are definitely on point. I will usually get a side of beef broth with my egg banh mi and if that's an indication of their pho it's gotta be good. My favorite thing about the banh mi that I get are the crispy fried garlic pieces they put on top of the egg. Service is solid, nothing over-the-top but never ever rude. Food always comes out pretty fast and it's always good. The place itself has plenty of seating, I've never been there and had trouble finding a seat. The tables are always very clean and the counter where the food is served is also always spotless. Parking on the other hand is a completely different beast -just be flexible in where you park and be ready to walk a few minutes if there's no parking in the lot. Solid spot!

Goi Cuon is delicious, authentic Vietnamese food! I've had combo 1 many times, the spring rolls are crazy good as are the fried items. We also had the special vermicelli bowl that comes with chicken, pork and shrimp. Super tasty, fresh and filling! Service is fast and professional. You can park in the lot for free and I haven't had any issue. I highly recommend Goi Cuon, support a local business by checking them out!

    Special vermicelli "bowl."

I was on my way back to LA after visiting San Diego for a conference, and I needed somewhere to grab dinner before I hit the road. I was craving Vietnamese food; I find it to be light and "clean," which makes it ideal as a pre-travel meal. In I went. It's not a huge place, but it's comfortable and welcoming. I'm a sucker for a good vermicelli bowl, and theirs, while technically on a plate, ticked that box for sure. I opted for the special bowl, which came with an egg roll, grilled pork and shrimp. It came out fairly speedily, and everything was nicely cooked--loved the pork and the egg roll in particular. It was an extremely satisfying dish. Service was friendly and efficient, and they were nice enough to let me fill up my water bottle prior to the trip. If I were back in San Diego, I'd be happy to dine here again.

Always wanted to go here and a friend chose this place to take me to lunch. What a delight . The food was yummy for sure and a reasonable quantity for the cost. The ladies making the food were a delight and they showed me how to make some rolls.

Pros: - Spring rolls were good in size. Great ingredients and great combo options. The fried tofu in my combo was silky soft, meaning that they made it fresh. Combos come with black or green tea (unsweetened). - No wait on a weekend in the afternoon. - Place also sells typical Vietnamese street snacks, etc. I love the fact that there's a window to look into the kitchen to see them making the food. - Clean environment and efficient service. We love the mom-and-pop shop type of feel. Cons: - Parking might be hard since the lot is small, but we came during the weekend and found parking just fine. For $14, you get 2 different kinds of spring roll, a little appetizer, a side and small soup with tea. The meal was light and refreshing, but kept me happily full. Tip: get the coconut sauce dip. I have no clue what's in there, but give me a whole bottle of it. It compliments spring rolls with protein like pork or beef really well.

Wow. Just wow. This Pho spot is probably in my best 3, that I have ever tried. We were seated right away, and they took our order within 5 minutes. The food did not take that long to come out, 5 minutes tops. The Pho was amazing! Beef broth was very rich in flavor. I got the S2 filet mignon (no onion and no chives) $18 (I like to add a bunch of chili to mine, I added racha and chili oil + jalapeños) My husband got the S1 Pho Beef Special - this had a combination of slices of rare beef, fatty brisket, lean brisket, flank, tendon, and tripe. $17 We also got two kids pho and those were $5 each. We also got the P4 - Pho Grilled Beef Roll Everything was DELICIOUS. The one thing I would say is that the noodles were a little too overcooked for my tasting but not enough to knock out stars. Small but has indoor seating, nice place and not too noisy inside. My husband said it's been the best Pho he's had in a long time. Would definitely make the drive from LA down to SD for this again. (We were in town for San Diego Comic Con) Overall definitely recommend!

    Vegan pho

Pretty pho-king good! Nice and fresh. Love the fresh basil. The pho came out piping hot and the egg roll apps were ready eat right away not burn your mouth hot like most places so I could eat my apps while the pho cooled. Which was nice surprise. Hehe. VEGAN! Woo hoo!

Was in a hurry as it was raining outside and I put in a large order to try many different items. The Pho roll's were both amazing! The Goi Cuon fresh spring rolls were all so succulent, especially the avocado shrimp, grilled chicken, grilled beef, grilled pork, and the omelet fresh spring rolls. I ordered so many to-go items. The fish sauce, coconut cream, and peanut sauce went well with all of the rolls. Very first time having coconut cream as a dipping sauce. :-) Great customer service and for sure will be coming back.

It was raining in San Diego so you know what that means - pho time! I was in the area and needed my pho fix so I decided to try Goi Cuon for the first time. The parking lot is tight but it's free so that was great. I found a spot right away and made my way inside. The restaurant gives off good vibes and it was busy for a weekday lunch hour. I ordered at the cashier and sat down at a table. I tried their rare steak pho and the broth was incredibly savory and steaming hot - just the way I like it! It costs $17 which is a little steep but for the size of the bowl was a good value. Their Thai tea was exceptionally creamy and sweet and the perfect balance to my rainy-day pho. I would highly recommend you check them out next time you're in Hilcrest for their great service and delicious food!

Initially, we were ambivalent about trying this place due to the high prices but they also have an exceptional rating on Google and Yelp. 4.9 on both Google and Yelp, that's rare. We bit the bullet and headed there. Parking can be tough but luckily we found parking in front of the restaurant. It was free after 8 pm on a Tuesday. If you go earlier or on the weekends, I would read the parking sign more carefully. There might be free street parking on the left side behind the restaurant. Don't quote me on that. Like I said, parking is not as easy as other places in SD. There are quite a bit of tables to sit in. It wasn't busy when we went. Yes, they do have a very large menu with like 1,000 items. We are not vegetarian or vegan but we have tried vegan places in Denver, CO. We ordered eel Helen pho roll, crispy beef chestnut and pineapple banh mi, and duck wonton noodle soup. While our food came out pretty slow, I'd say it was worth the wait. We also enjoyed 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly while we waited as part of our anniversary celebration. The restarant itself is decorated beautifully with a jazzy ambiance. The interior had bits of gold and green with a beautiful pearlescent leafy wallpaper. The bar is located in the center and also doubles as a centerpiece to the restuarant. Restrooms are located in the back - there we many private, clean and spacious rooms. Below is a summary of the food we ordered: Beef Tartare (5/5) - Savory, sweet and spicy beef tartare dressed in fish sauce and thai chilis. Paired alongside fresh herbs like cilantro, shiso, argula and radicchio. The sesame rice crackers were light and airy. Smoked Dry Aged Duck (5/5) - Perfectly cooked, sweet and salty aged smoked duck paired with rice noodles, herbs and 2 different sauces. I appreciated the many ways you can wrap and enjoy the duck. I do wish the slices of duck were either smaller or thinner - it's hard to eat in one bite. Whole Fried Sand Bass (4/5) - I'll always order a whole firied fish wherever I go and this was no expection. I loved the sweet & sour ginger sauce. The fish was a bit over-fried in my personal opinion, but the inside is still very soft and tender. Sweet & Sour Rice Noodles (5/5) - Aboslutely delicious! Slippery and cold rice noodles dressed in fish sauce and other seasonings. It's not overpowering at all and goes great with the Whole Fried fish as well. Seasame Soiree Cocktail (5/5) - A very unique drink made with gin, ginger, coconut, seasame seeds and more. It was very fragrant in the best way. The flavor really develops after the first sip.
