Been coming to this place since I was a kid! Banh mi dac biet is now $7.75! Eggrolls are $1.50! No doubt, the best eggrolls in San Diego! Parking can be tough but the sandwhich is always filled! Plenty of other food options such as rice plates/ vermicelli bowls as well!

Of course the vid/reels brought me here tooooo!! I was curious and wanted to try the rolls to see how good it is and have to admit that, these rolls was amazingly good! First off, CASH Only!! I wish they take credit cards as I tend to buy more vs. cash. During this visit, I didn't have much cash left due to coming from Las Vegas, hehe. The slot machine took all my cash, hehe! The shop is located in the corner end of this tiny complex and parking is very scarce and tight. We did wait lo ng for a parking spot. Tiny shop just for take out. I spot the famous rolls and had to take my photos first before placing my order. The only thing I dislike about A-Chau is there are no prices on the products and have to ask, I hope the kind gentlemen wasn't irritated, here is what I got: Famous Rolls- $1.50 per rolls , Mochi rice-$4.50 Vietnamese Bao, $3.00 moon Cakes, prices varies. I think I asked for some other items but got memory lost right now. hehe. One thing I do regret is not buying more rolls, I only got 4 ( 2 for hubby and 2 for me just to try. I also got 2 mochi rice with pork/mung beans and 2 Vietnamese buns. & The verdict of the Rolls, My hubby is not a fan of spring rolls but I am surprised he likes this, its a pass for him. As I took my first bite, Wow, these rolls are really good! Crispy, fresh, Very full and filling, I tried both types of egg rolls and I like the one with rice paper more. The rolls are filled with lots of meat, long rice, and carrots. I wish they added wood ear mushroom, that would make it taste so much better! just my opinion, hehe Glad I gave it a try, checked A-Chau off my bookmarks and I can't, wait to grab more extra rolls, when I am back at SD again.

I saw a vid on social media dubbing this spot as THE place for egg rolls. Here was my experience. AMBIANCE: Parking: Welcome to Little Saigon, they got a parking plaza but it can get busy so street parking can be good. Seating: Total 12 people, 3 groups. It's a grab and go spot or chill and hide. Vibes: San Diego's Little Saigon has a nice charm. Everything seems to be accessible being just a hot skip jump away from things. The murals are lovely and the architecture is pleasant. The spot itself is nothing too flashy, a shop decorated with food in stock and cultural decor. Nothing too flashy here. They seem most busy during the morning and for taking orders. FOOD: Wonton-wrapped egg roll (Recommend) Wrapped in the wonton (flour) so you get a nice crisp with nice bubbles. A nice portion of meat stuffing. Rice‑paper-wrapped egg roll (Recommend) A nice bubbly and crispy texture, giving it a different type of crunch. It felt a little bit liter. Shrimp Tempura (Recommend) Good crunch and nice brininess with the shrimp. It's good alone Vietnamese Coffee (Recommend) Yup... this is as strong as your usual Vietnamese coffee, thus this gets my approval. CUSTOMER SERVICE: Don was great! Straight busy (due to the busyness) and friendly. TL; DR OVERALL: 4.5 Stars. Great! Delicious selections, reasonable food, and a steady experience. I did miss out on the spring roll but I guess that's for another adventure. For those that are fans of eggrolls of all kinds, yes this spot is for you. It truly is rare for a spot to have various types of eggrolls so that was cool to see! Pro Tip: *Cash only!

I decided to venture from my standard Banh Mi order and so glad I did. I actually had time to sit down and eat so I ordered the vermicelli bowl on Monday afternoon for lunch. Had to snag one of their famous egg rolls too! I ended up chatting it up with another regular who sat at the table next to me. After he left, the owner sat there enjoying her lunch and we ended up talking for a long time. She shared some longans with me gave me a hug as I departed. This is exactly why I love supporting my local businesses. It's families supporting families!

Every local knows this is the BEST bánh mi restaurant in san diego. The prices are perfect for the size of the sandwich. It's a quaint mom and pop-esque shop. Food is mainly meant to go so seating is very limited. If you plan on eating inside i'd allot ~5-15 minutes to find parking because it can be hard. My beef sandwich was so flavorful, it kind of had a sweet and sour flavor which was really yummy.

Affordable pricing, very good rolls. They are stuffed with meat. It was very easy to walk in n out. I got the pork bahn mi, if it had more sauce/mayo, it would be a lot better. Will come back.

Food: Vietnamese Egg Roll (10/10) - the best spot to get these type of crispy egg rolls that are fried with the rice paper wrapped around them. Vietnamese coffee (9/10) - very strong! if you love strong coffee this is a decent spot to grab and go Certain food items sold on the counter will sell out by a certain time as well. Service: Straightforward ordering process at the counter. Bring cash! Ambiance: Just a small spot with few tables but most people usually grab and go the to-go items.

Omg..BEST EGG ROLL in San Diego! Literally so so good. My Vietnamese friend approves!! Just know that it's cash only!

Came here looking for eggs rolls, that's all I get here! Made with your typical traditional egg roll wrapper or with the rice roll wrapper. I prefer the rice wrapper here. They are salty yumminess! Each egg rolls is just about $1.50. Got six egg rolls on my last visit for $9.05. A few things to know... Tiny shop, with a horrible parking lot! I usually pick up a few egg rolls on my own while I'm running errands, but on my last visit thankfully the hubs was with me. A large box truck was making a delivery to the supermarket in the back of the lot and pretty much hosed both entrances. No getting in or out for anyone. Hubs ended up parking in front of the truck waiting while I ran out to grab a few egg rolls. The tiny store is usually packed! Inside there's limited seating, but not one open spot on my last visit, with a line of six people deep when I arrived. When I got to the counter, another auntie/grandma was bringing out more rice wrapped egg rolls. They are cash only, so make sure you got some green before coming here! Good luck parking, street parking is always packed, but best to try to on the street for a quick in and out. Enjoy! 2025: 10

How have I never rated A-Chau? This tiny spot has been my go-to for all my Asian/Pacific Islander Heritage Month and/or Lunar New Year event needs. Their chả giò are a staple - generously filled, fried to perfection, delicious to the last bite - I've spent more money at A-Chau in the last three years than I had in the previous decade. The parking lot can be a challenge, but the staff is so incredibly friendly and helpful. The person I spoke wiht late in April even offered to work with me on timing - offering to come in on his day off so that I could have egg rolls for my Lunar New Year event. Naturally, I declined - I don't want to work on my day off, so there's no way I'd want someone else to! - but so appreciated his offer. I love how accommodating they are with large orders, as well. I tend to order 200 - 300 chả giò for events, and they never bat an eye. They even say that I can come in the morning of, place my order, wait a few minutes and walk out trays of the piping hot crunchies. I've never done that, though, I prefer to know they know I'm coming, haha. They are cash only, which lots of people seem to forget. But between their staff, the service (the sweet ladies always follow me out to my car with trays of food, to save me from having to make multiple trips), the quality of the food (you should hear my colleagues rave about everything) and the price, you just can't go wrong.

I've seen A chau a bunch of times on my way to Minh Ky.  I stopped in and bought $10 worth of fried chicken wings and a leg quarter. Fried chicken wings were warm from the warming tray.  Skin was crunchy.  Chicken was tender and the salt and pepper seasoning gave the wings a delicious flavor.  Very good wings.  I think they would be awesome if you could get them fresh out of the fryer. Leg quarter looked like it was cooked on a rotisserie.  A tiny bit was burnt.  The rest was nice and tender.  From the color it looked like it was heavily marinated but the flavor was light.  I'd prefer it was marinated longer.  Costco chicken has alot more flavor. I'd return for the delicious fried chicken wings but I wouldn't get the leg quarter again

Cash Only!!! Definitely the most important thing to know before coming here. Finally had the chance to come here and I'm satisfied! The staff is friendly and they'll give you their recommendations. A lot of people come in and say it's their first time here and ask for help, so don't be afraid to ask as they're used to it. The food is great, especially for the price point you get it. You will never question the freshness and quality of this food neither!

    Ask the Community - A-Chau

Are the eggrolls pork or chicken?

Pork eggrolls. Also have shrimp eggrolls Pork eggrolls can come in wonton wrapper or normally rice paper wrapper

Stupid question. Are they open on thanksgiving?

Yes, I was just in there a few minutes ago and asked. They said they're open every holiday.

Hello all, I'm trying to place an order for a party but the line goes unanswered. Does anyone know if I can place the order the day of and if they will have egg rolls available? Is it necessary to make an advance order?

Every time I have been there, they have huge trays full of them and I've seen people order 50 at a time, multiple times. Depending on how many you need, they should have them, or can whip them up for you in probably 20 min or less, I would assume.

Does anyone know how much each egg roll is now? And do they have a deal if u buy in bulk or a party tray?

Went there the other day. $1.50ish an egg roll. It was like $18 something for 12 egg rolls.

How much is the egg roll party tray?

They don't sell it by tray. I believe it's $1.10 for each egg rolls.

    Are they open on thanksgiving?

Most holidays except Chinese New Year

Anyone ask the owners if they're open this Easter 2022 on Sunday?

Yes they will be open. They only close for Chinese New Year

Are they open on New Years Eve? New Years Day?

Yeah, in fact it's the busiest days.

Does anyone know if they sell just their bread?

They do, currently 85 cents a baguette on 4-17-25.

Does anyone know if they will be transitioning to taking debit/credit?

Possibly but they've been cash only for the 10+ years I've been going, so doubtful.

Do they use fresh or canned pate? Pregnant women can't have fresh pate.

They use fresh in house made pate

Been trying to get a hold of them for the past 3 days but no answer? Does anyone know if they are still operating despite of the 2nd wave COVID CLOSURES?

I drove by today and they are open. Sometimes they are just too busy to answer the phone but if you come in to order your sandwich, you only have to wait about 5-10 minutes for it depending on how many people are in there. Usually there isn't more… Read more

I've been trying to call in an order but no answer? Does anyone know if they're open for business? Yelp said they are but went there yesterday too and they were closed!

I just drove by today. Their open sign was lit up and their door was slightly pushed in. I think there's a day in the week where they're closed so their staff can have some rest or they might have closed early the day you went. But they generally… Read more

Do they sell the egg rolls frozen so we can cook at home?

Yes, just let the owner/cashier know when ordering.

I heard there was a fire and saw that someone posted that on 1/17/2020 the restaurant was still closed. Is this open yet? I have tried calling and no one answered.

There was an electrical issues in one of the other businesses that lead to a fire. I think A Chau opened within a few weeks of the incident. They're operating now during the pandemic.

Does anyone know if they're currently closed due to the fire next door?

They were open last weekend (2/8-9) but still undergoing repairs so not sure if they'll be open during the week while that's being completed. Just give them a call before going...

Due to the fire, will you relocate?

    Can you order them frozen?

    Yes, just ask. Same price.

Has anyone ordered a tray and reheated the next day for a party? I'm wondering if they taste just as good re-heated. I live an hour away so I'm thinking about picking them up the day before.?

They are best eaten just after they have been deep fried. I might reheat them on the next day just for myself but not to serve to guests at a dinner party.

Initially, we were ambivalent about trying this place due to the high prices but they also have an exceptional rating on Google and Yelp. 4.9 on both Google and Yelp, that's rare. We bit the bullet and headed there. Parking can be tough but luckily we found parking in front of the restaurant. It was free after 8 pm on a Tuesday. If you go earlier or on the weekends, I would read the parking sign more carefully. There might be free street parking on the left side behind the restaurant. Don't quote me on that. Like I said, parking is not as easy as other places in SD. There are quite a bit of tables to sit in. It wasn't busy when we went. Yes, they do have a very large menu with like 1,000 items. We are not vegetarian or vegan but we have tried vegan places in Denver, CO. We ordered eel Helen pho roll, crispy beef chestnut and pineapple banh mi, and duck wonton noodle soup. The owner also gave us complimentary desserts, vegan corn pudding and vegan creme. She also gave us cookies and two cups of that delicious special water to go. That special water is hands down one of the best drinks I've ever had. Prices range $22-30. -eel Helen pho roll 5 - not real eel but this was very tasty. The hostess had a note for our anniversary celebration. They also printed a little celebatory note directly on the menu - a great personal touch. Our server was friendly and answered any questions we had. We ordered the beef tartare, smoked aged duck, and the deep fried sand bass. For the drink we ordered the Seasame Soirée. While our food came out pretty slow, I'd say it was worth the wait. We also enjoyed 2 complimentary glasses of bubbly while we waited as part of our anniversary celebration. The restarant itself is decorated beautifully with a jazzy ambiance. The interior had bits of gold and green with a beautiful pearlescent leafy wallpaper. The bar is located in the center and also doubles as a centerpiece to the restuarant. Restrooms are located in the back - there we many private, clean and spacious rooms. Below is a summary of the food we ordered: Beef Tartare (5/5) - Savory, sweet and spicy beef tartare dressed in fish sauce and thai chilis. Paired alongside fresh herbs like cilantro, shiso, argula and radicchio. The sesame rice crackers were light and airy. Smoked Dry Aged Duck (5/5) - Perfectly cooked, sweet and salty aged smoked duck paired with rice noodles, herbs and 2 different sauces. I appreciated the many ways you can wrap and enjoy the duck. I do wish the slices of duck were either smaller or thinner - it's hard to eat in one bite. Whole Fried Sand Bass (4/5) - I'll always order a whole firied fish wherever I go and this was no expection. I loved the sweet & sour ginger sauce. The fish was a bit over-fried in my personal opinion, but the inside is still very soft and tender. Sweet & Sour Rice Noodles (5/5) - Aboslutely delicious! Slippery and cold rice noodles dressed in fish sauce and other seasonings. It's not overpowering at all and goes great with the Whole Fried fish as well. Seasame Soiree Cocktail (5/5) - A very unique drink made with gin, ginger, coconut, seasame seeds and more. It was very fragrant in the best way. The flavor really develops after the first sip. I love how nutty and decadent yet light this drink is. Overall, I had a great experience here and this is one of the top restaurants I've had the pleasure of enjoying in SD. Highly reccomend especially if you like Vietnamese food / fish-sauce forward dishes. (At least for the dishes I ordered)
