Stopped by formoosa after our annual trip down here to pack up our kid's things during finals week. The staff was welcoming and attentive as soon as we stepped in the door. The menu is a QR code at each table, which made it easy enough for everyone to look. Both Aiden and James came by at different times to check on us. We were waiting for one more person to arrive and they were so gracious about it. As soon as we were ready to order, Aiden came by pretty quickly. Tried Formoosa today and overall it was a solid spot. The beef noodle soup was good . I really liked the texture of the noodles, but the soup was a little more sour than I expected. Scallion pancake - could use some more scallions/onion flavor, but overall very fresh, crunchy, and tasty! Popcorn chicken - soooo good! When eaten within the first five minutes, the outside is nice and crunchy while the chicken is perfectly moist and hot :) Chili wonton - the chili oil really sells these dumplings, nice combination of shrimp and pork filling Taiwanese beef noodle soup - large and tender beef chunks with a bit of a char flavor to them! We got the wide noodles which were nice and chewy... only wish there was more meat to eat the noodles with! I was craving for some good Taiwanese food and stumbled upon this spot on Yelp. It caught my eye because they had some happy hour deals going on even on a Friday afternoon! Their weekday happy hour is from Mon-Friday from 2-5pm. There were select appetizers and drinks on the happy hour menu that I really wanted to try, so we headed on over. The parking lot is kinda small and shared with multiple establishments. We went on an off hour but even then, there were only a couple spots left. I saw the good reviews for this place and I'm happy to say the hype lived up! We came in for happy hour and I was really happy to see that popular items were on the happy hour menu, I feel like sometimes restaurants just put lame options as happy hour but this felt really satisfying because it was stuff we were going to the restaurant to eat anyways. My favorite was definitely the beef roll. It was delicious. Tender meat. I love how the cucumbers were flavored. Everything worked together really well. James was our waiter and he was fantastic at managing everything. I am a very particular eater and like to get lots of my sauces on the side and he was so thorough and knowledgeable and I appreciated how cool he kept it every time I asked for something else to be on the side. It was cute inside. Most seating is around a bar-like high table area but the neon cow was kinda an adorable decoration that can be seen from pretty much everywhere, it was nice and cute for pictures. If you're thinking of coming here I would definitely recommend during the day and not with a large party. It's small inside and a small parking lot as well. On a weekend or for dinner I could see it being crazier because this area has lots and lots of people come through during popular times. read more

I can eat this every day! Huge Portion of Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup... giant chunks of beef, soooo much fresh noodles, and the broth was delicious!!! I also ordered the Chili Wontons (8 large pieces). I couldn't finish it and have an entire meal for day2. Service was super friendly and fast. James gave me a few recommendations and kept checking in. He did a great job! The interior dining area was mostly a center bar area surrounded by chairs and a few smaller tables on the outside. Probably not good for large groups with calling ahead. The decor was pretty nice, but they could definitely organize the interior of the bar area since it's what most of the dinners are looking at. Prices were more than fair given the amount of food served. Like almost every great spot near Convoy, it is located in a very busy strip-mall with a packed parking lot. read more

Another satisfying visit to formoosa Brought my mom and a friend with me this time and it's been quite some time since I've been because the menu had expanded from what I last remembered! We ordered a beef noodle soup, beef roll, and scallion pancake. Between three of us, it was actually more than enough food and everything was very tasty. Our server checked in often and would help refill the water. I really appreciated her service! Would love to come back to try some of the newer menu items some time! I have seen this place so many times in convoy and my cousin and I decided to finally try it plus I was even more excited to try it because my favorite animal which is a cow is next to their name in the building. The inside is small but really cute inside. I really like the chill vibe that they were going for. For the size of the place they had plenty of space to sit and move around and not be in people's way which is great. The food was absolutely delicious! We got three different items off the menu to share and it definitely filled us up and we still were not able to finish all of it. The food was fresh and was so flavorful. Was not spicy at all and had a nice crunch and texture to it. The service was excellent! I ordered the Mazesoba and the beef roll and they were both really good. The mazesoba has a strong sesame flavor so it's perfect if you like sesame. Braised pork over rice was ok, a little salty. The beef pancake was good although I wish there was more for the price. Cars just making an extra parking spot so they can go down and pick up food but parking is limited! You also have to pay for parking! ~$8.55 + $1.55 (service fee) for parking 3 hours! Came here to have brunch with my parents. We came near opening and were confused whether they were open with a table and chair on top of it set out front of the door. They were indeed open when we asked, and instead of moving the furniture out of the way, we had to walk around it. Normally not a problem but I had my dad with us who has a walker which made it difficult to get through. The guy at the bar didn't bother to move and help out. Not a good impression. Service was okay. I asked if anything was spicy he said no. And so my mom ordered the beef soup which was spicy. I ended up switching with her. I give service 2 stars. A bunch of young guys that don't communicate really well. I will give them benefit of doubt because the food was actually really good even the spicy beef soup. 3 stars overall experience. Incredibly poor poor customer service from here. It's a Sunday. We got here at 1:00pm, signed our name to wait and the server (young Asian looking guy with dangly earring on his left) "tends" to us with a terrible attitude. We waited until 2:30pm to get seated (mind you there were many open seats) while we were waiting for him to call us. As we're seated, a girl walks in and is immediately seated and immediately gets served food. Took us 20 minutes (2:51pm as im writing this for the server to get us with our orders.) Also, this place has inflated reviews. The reason there's so many is because they give you free drinks for a 5 star review so realistically, it should be much lower than expected. I recommend reading the lower reviews for a true understanding of how poor this place is. Management needs to do better and hire more people as well as hire more professional servers as this is the worst service I have ever gotten. I will be updating with the food in hope that maybe it will change. Completely ruined our San Diego trip and wish we just walked away but here we are dealing with a sunk cost fallacy Edit: we got our food and it was very just Okay. It made us angrier knowing we had to wait for food that was honestly 4/10 something you can get elsewhere for cheaper and better taste. Another thing to note was the server (same one) had placed a plate of food in the middle of dirty dishes (a genuine health hazard). I get you're busy but at the same time you can't pick and choose who/when you service someone and expect the other customers to not feel mistreated. Do better and I hope people read this. For drink, I got the peach oolong milk tea. Perfect amount of sweetness for me. Some milk teas can be too sweet for my liking. I asked if it could be adjusted but it sounds like it is pre-mixed. I gambled for it anyway and I am glad I did. It was refreshing and well balanced. For appetizer, I got the sesame wonton. It was rich from the sesame but there was some vinegar I think in the sesame that helped balance it. For entree, got the new menu item, Taiwan Mazesoba. The dish was good but I felt like it was missing something. Veggies like bok choy and maybe chili crisp for some heat? The seasoning was also fairly similar to the pork over noodles dish which is what my friend had. The noticeable difference was that my dish had sesame and was slightly more rich. After a 24 hr fast, I am ready for a hot, savoury soup. Wanting to try a restaurant I've never been to, I invited my friend here. Once seated at the bar area, we saw a counter staff/waiter blowtorching the top of a large bowl of noodles. All three of us ordered it, one without the veggies. As an appetizer, we nibbled on the cucumber salad. Not the best cucumber salad and maybe it's just Formoosa's style but I found it too salty. Four pieces and I'm done with it. My friend's mom-in-law also ordered Popcorn Chicken because she saw someone had ordered it too. I liked it. Tender chicken, seasoned well with a contrasting dip. The Beef Noodle Soup with wavy noodles was tough to finish even for someone as hungry as I am. It's funny coz the noodles resemble garters from old underwear. The thought doesn't make it unappetizing though because I took home the rest to enjoy later. Service was fast, place was fast casual with a few tables but the best seats are in the bar area for sure because you get to see some last second prep action like "courtside seating". I've been to Formoosa multiple times now, and it has been amazing every single time. It's one of those places that you keep coming back to because you know the food is going to be incredible. The inside of the restaurant is pretty small, so you might have to be a little patient for a table, but trust me -- the food is absolutely worth the wait. Everything I've tried here has been SO good. The scallion pancakes are perfectly crispy and flavorful, the pork over noodles is comforting and packed with flavor, the beef roll is one of my all-time favorites, and the beef noodle soup is rich, hearty, and seriously delicious. Every dish tastes fresh and thoughtfully made, and you can tell they really care about the quality of their food. I've even ordered Formoosa on DoorDash before and was impressed that the food still arrived hot and just as delicious as dining in. Not every restaurant pulls that off, but they do it perfectly. Today we visited the restaurant and had the best experience with James and Aidan. They were friendly, knowledgeable about the menu, and provided quick, attentive service even while the restaurant was busy. They made the whole experience even better. If you're thinking about trying Formoosa, do it. It's easily one of my favorite spots. 10/10 -- this place is a must try! read more
