Seafood Noodles - Salty 4/10 Eat it with steamed rice to cut the saltiness
Maureen J.

It was pretty dead inside considering it's on Convoy Street. There is additional parking at the back. There was a good amount of take out orders. Servers did their job. It was clean inside. It looked like it used to be a bar before. The scallion pancakes were good but the Seafood noodles were too salty for us! Location is good if you like going to Happy Lemon lol we went there afterwards for dessert!

Sweet & sour pork

When we came in for lunch it was pretty empty. We came for the Peking duck, but was tempted to try other things. The Peking duck: 2 course meal. Comes with the duck sliced for you and soup made with the bones & some of the duck meat. The family liked it, although I thought it could've used a little more salt. But the Peking duck itself was amazing, one of the best I've had. The skin crispy, & the meat moist. The best part is they separate & remove most of the fat off. So you're left with just yummy meat & crispy skin. I enjoyed the very thin crepe-like/thin tortilla-like wrap. The Peking duck alone deserves a perfect 5 stars. Beef onion: the fam really enjoyed this one. The beef was very tender & the sauce was good. Sweet & sour pork: very unique texture. Like one of the reviewers said, the coating is like mochi like. Kind of sticks to your gums & teeth when hot. I liked the texture, but we didn't like the sauce. It was over caramelized and was sort of solid. It was like over cooked caramel and stuck to our teeth. Even solidified onto the plate. Yang zhou fried rice: bland and was missing the sausage. It was basically shrimp bland fried rice. Baked pumpkin with salted egg yolk: it was ok. It was very sweet, really heavy, & greasy. It's probably an acquired taste. Service was meh, they basically just dropped off the food then went on the phone on speaker to call for their medical stuff. No one came by to refill our waters or take away empty plates till the very end when we asked for more water & the check. Would I come back here again? Yes for sure for the Peking duck, I will definitely come back for that. But call ahead (an hour minimum), since they say you have to make reservations for them to prepare that.

We came here for the Peking Duck. They suggest you order in advance so we made a reservation and placed the order. The duck was delicious - served with the duck soup, pancakes, scallions, cucumber and sauce. My friends really, really enjoyed the meal. The skin was crispy, just the way they like it. I enjoyed the vegetable dishes. The noodles, pumpkin and eggplant were good. Some of the flavors were new to me because this place serves northern Chinese food. Note: They do have dishes we are more familiar with like honey walnut shrimp, sweet and our, etc. The restaurant is dark could use freshening up. The server took our order but didn't really check in with us to see how we were doing.

Duck is good really soft and crispy but other dishes like the pork ribs is gamey chewy and the pork intestines are good but could use a lil bit time to be tender. Love the boneless chicken feet.

Their duck is always the best I can find in San Diego! And they're the only place that will also prepare a duck soup! Make sure to call an hour in advance if you are planning to get duck! Every other dish I've had is really good too! ^__^

Ran into this place by accident. Was trying to get to another restaurant across the street but couldn't find parking. I knew it was a good sign when there were Chinese patrons inside speaking and eating at Chinese restaurant. Loved the pics of popular dishes on wall and made it easy to order. Restaurant was busy but food came out pretty fast and was delicious! I will definitely be bringing back family and friends to this spot!

All the dishes we ordered were pretty authentic and tasty, but rather more oily than we'd prefer. We came on a quiet Sunday afternoon around 3pm and one server was working. Service was decent. Restaurant is clean with soothing Chinese music playing in the background. Overall a decent restaurant to enjoy authentic Chinese food.

Fellow Northeasterners/Manchurians, this is a place for you! I grew up in Harbin and they have extremely authentic food from my area! Besides, they also have items not currently on the menu e.g. "Oil" green beans and smoked pork knuckles (similar to Schweinshaxe) and trotters, which are my soul and comfort food. It's my to-go place even before I moved to SD. The manager Andy is very nice as well :)

Excellent experience! We came for lunch on a Friday and ordered the orange chicken, beef noodle and the mixed veggie plate. The portions were large and the food was tasty. We will be back for sure.

It was okay. Got the beef chow mein and broccoli beef. It was fine. Not too good not too bad.

Solid Chinese restaurant with Peking duck and requires advanced notice. Sweet and sour pork was crispy and has slight mochi-like breading. Different but delicious. Always a reliable choice for Chinese food.

Ordered six dishes in one go, and the total cost was just a little over 100. Best value for money! Pickled Cabbage with pork belly pot Classic Northeastern flavor! The white meat is incredibly tender and pairs perfectly with the sour cabbage. The Northeastern sour cabbage adds a strong and refreshing sourness to the dish. It also includes frozen tofu and vermicelli. It arrived hot! The sour cabbage in this pot is indeed appetizing, but the soup base is quite heavy, so it's best enjoyed when shared. Stewed Chicken with Mushrooms These are genuine wild mushrooms! The flavor is very authentic. This dish highlights the characteristics of Northern cuisine with its savory and tender meat, along with the use of multiple layers of aromatic spices for stewing. The chicken pieces are a bit small, but they're flavorful. The vermicelli in this dish is the finishing touch. However, it's best to eat it quickly! Initially, it absorbs the rich and well-balanced soup flavors and becomes very delicious. The longer it soaks, the saltier it becomes. Glass Noodles salad An appetizer for all ages! The cold skin noodles are refreshing with a chewy texture, and they're incredibly smooth. The colorful garnishes also include plenty of vegetables and lean shredded meat. I really like the taste of this dish. It might not be a mind-blowing masterpiece, but the flavor is familiar and delightful, and the texture is excellent Jellyfish salad I can't resist jellyfish, having grown up by the seaside. I'm particularly satisfied with the crispy texture of the jellyfish served here - it's tender and refreshing! It's a perfect blend of sourness and freshness, and it's a must-have among the various meat-heavy dishes. Pork Meatballs Its Chinese name literally means braised Lion's Head and it's a very classy Northern China dish. It perfectly replicates the taste from my memories! The pork is not at all gamey! It's properly seasoned, with the authentic flavors of Northern Lion's Head meatballs. The texture is amazing, with a thin outer layer that's crispy from frying and tender meat inside. I love it! Meet Sauce Noodles The noodles are wonderfully chewy! They have a good bite to them. The sauce is also very fragrant, with minced meat. After mixing fully, each strand of noodle is coated in sauce, and it's fragrant but not too salty. It's also convenient for takeout. A little more garnish would be nice~ In my opinion, among all the takeout orders I've placed, this is definitely the best value for money. The average price for the dishes I ordered is around $15 to16, and the portions are generous, and the taste is very good.

Food is all amazingly delicious and good services. We went there for late lunch to avoid the crowded and had a great time there. I can't wait to go back anytime soon.

Do I need to order Peking duck in advance?

I would. I think the restaurant said 2h prep time but they are a one man shop right now so more advance notice will probably be much appreciated and save you some frustration

Is this restaurant still open?

Yes, it's open. Was in the area so went to check. It's open as of 7/2/2022.

Is it the best roast duck in SD?

For me, yes! No other place I have seen in San Diego uses the thin wraps for Peking Duck. The only place comparable would be restaurants all the way up in LA.

Beef noodle soup - excellent flavor overall, including a strong broth and a nice, soft texture to the noodles. This is certainly not their specialty, and asking for extra cumin to sprinkle on the lamb did not redeem the firmness. I struggled to slide the meat off the skewer and ended up just eating it while still on the stick. 1.5/5 Fish fillet - so good. Easy to eat texture-wise. Caution -- a bit saltier than it looks. The bell peppers in particular were seasoned spectacularly. 4.5/5 Dry fried green beans - a delicious option for vegetables to add to the table. Most people will enjoy this one in my opinion. A bit more crunch than I expected, which is not a bad thing. 4/5 Double cooked pork - I've never seen it cooked this way, and am not a fan. I'm used to a more oily version of this dish. It contained a bunch of dried and crunchy... yams? Potatoes? Overall, the dish was mainly crunch with no flavor, and contained a relatively small amount of pork. 1/5

After some search on Yelp, we decided to try Eastern Dinasty on Convoy Street. Upon arrival, we knew the restaurant was legit when we saw shiny and beautifully roasted ducks dangling in a display box. Inside, it had a casual décor, with seating for 60 guests. The courteous waitress guided us to our table and brought the menu and water right away. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes: West Lake Minced Beef Soup: The portion was large enough for 6 people. The lightly starched broth was nicely seasoned with hint of white pepper. In the soup, there were bits of minced beef, chopped green onion, and stirred egg whites. The simplistic soup was warm, velvety, and pleasantly flavored. 3 Item BBQ Combo (House Special Chicken, Roasted Duck, and Pork Belly): The house special chicken was nicely steamed, lightly seasoned, and with beautiful gelatinous skin. The roasted duck pieces were plump, with crispy skin and succulent meat. The pork belly had crispy thick skin, and tender meat with nice rendered fat without being overly greasy. Walnut Shrimp: The portion was quite generous for the price. The lightly battered shrimps had a nice firm texture and were covered with mayonnaise and sprinkled with sweetened and crispy walnuts. What a beautiful blend of taste and aroma. Left the restaurant heart-warmed and extremely satisfied. Highly recommended.

I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA.
