Fried cruller crispy donut for dunking into my hot soy milk
    Lorean W.

This is for Sat/ Sun breakfast items til 11am. Cruller donut was perfectly crispy and not oily. Sticky rice was very good and wrapped in lotus leaf. Beef roll was good; but different than the Taiwanese version. Service was good and the lady was nice. Ambience is clean and moderate sized place. Nice that there was no wait.

Worst Milk Tea I've ever had. Very sour and comes w/ crystal boba. Terrible pairing!

The Popcorn Chicken and Boba Milk Tea (they use crystal boba here) are AWFUL. Some of the worst I've had anywhere. Chicken itself is rubbery and the flat battered coating doesn't have the signature crispy bubbles of authentic Taiwanese chicken. The Boba Milk Tea is definitely one of my worst, if not The Worst, milk tea experiences to date due to the sour taste and the crystal (not tapioca) boba with which it is paired. Disgusting combo! By comparison, the Passion Fruit Green Tea is a familiar syrup-based staple you find at most boba shops but delightfully refreshing. The Chicken and Corn Dumplings weren't bad, either. Overall, this one is a skip for me.

Went to this location since the one near our place closed. Was so incredibly disappointed by this location. First - The popcorn chicken was SOFT. Second - the popcorn chicken was in a different container and NOT full. For the price we paid, it's ridiculous.. The other location used to have the popcorn chicken in the same container and vent it so the chicken wouldn't get soft. Seems like common sense to me that you'd do that but I guess i was wrong. It's really annoying to pick up food that is soggy and soft and has condensation all over it (and it wasn't even topped off to the top). Unfortunately, not returning to this location.

I don't know how to describe these Chinese food islands that exist in San diego except to say that I get why people write highly because they are so far away from other Chinese food restaurants. The best I could describe this place as is amazing service and great ambience and look, the food served was not as great as I expected it to be.. The shrimp Shumai tasted exactly like the frozen ones from ranch 99 The dumplings we got pork and chive were a bit too salty, and there was too much tendon in the meat. I will say that the potstickers skin was done very well and chewy. The best of our meal was probably the chow mein because the chicken was tender, and the flavor was spot on, so overall Joyee gets stars for the look the service and the noodles. Oh also the portions were quite big.

We first ordered takeout from here and quite enjoyed it and decided to come in and try their dumplings. The Chinese food we ordered to go was mapo tofu, cumin lamb, and the beef wrap. We enjoyed all three of them to give them a shot in person and try their dumplings fresh. The food we tried today was xiaolongbao, pork and chive dumplings, popcorn chicken, and tofu and seafood pot. Both dumplings were mediocre to be honest. The xiaolongbao was honestly a disappointment because half of them had no soup. The pork and chive dumplings were better but nothing too crazy to write home about or rave about. The popcorn chicken was also not very crispy but it was a good serving size. The best dish was the seafood and tofu pot. It had good flavor and was also generous serving size. The more traditional Chinese food on the menu is good aside from the dumplings and I probably wouldn't get the popcorn chicken again. Parking is easy because it's in a big parking lot. The service was good, they refilled water numerous times without needing to be asked. It's a small restaurant inside so it can get busy during the dinner rush.

Stopped in for lunch and it was the best choice!! The service was incredibly warm and friendly and the food came quickly and was delicious! My favorite was the salt and pepper pork ribs which were crispy and tender on the inside. Ample seating and lots of natural light that makes the interior feel bright and airy. Can't wait to be back soon!

    Stewed pork belly with tofu

The waitress was pretty attentive. This restaurant is a very casual dining place. We ordered the pan fried pork buns and the stewed pork belly with tofu. The pan-fried pork buns, unfortunately, were a bit off. Instead of having a juicy sauce inside, the juice from the pork was more like a thick gravy. That's not the way it should be; the buns are supposed to be filled with a savory, juicy sauce that bursts out when you bite into them. The stewed pork belly with tofu was just alright. The dish was somewhat one-dimensional in flavor. It should have had a bit more sweetness and vinegar in the sauce to balance the flavors and add depth, but it fell short of that expectation.

Ordered food via Grubhub. Pros: -their portion size is incredibly generous compared to other businesses. -price is very reasonable for what you get -I absolutely loved their beef belly hot pot. It was full of delicious, tender beef and chilies. This is something I would definitely order again. Cons: -none Overall, if you're looking for a great deal, this place is wonderful. I will definitely be reordering their hot pot in the near future!

Salty soymilk (I didn't like the Shanghainese version) and Jian bing (Shanghainese version is just not as good as the taiwaneee version.)
    Rebecca Y.

This is NOT a Taiwanese place! It's northern Chinese. Just fyi - I came here expecting Taiwanese breakfast and it was not Taiwanese, more Shanghainese. So don't order traditional Taiwanese items as you'll be disappointed like me. stick with the dumplings or noodle dishes.

Both dishes were amazing quality and fresh, the service was also very pleasant and efficient. The portions were also very generous considering the prices, def recommend.

I have been traveling to China for 25+ years and have run joint venture companies there and traveled across the country into different provinces/cities and believe I am quite the expert on authentic Chinese cuisine. We had previously tried the Joyee in 4S Ranch and it was terrible, so, coming to this Joyee at first was fraught with a little concern, . . . . . .BUT, it excelled and exceeded all my expectations. The staff at this Joyee is marvelous and friendly and they remember you and your favorites and welcome you like family!! Their Xiao Long Bao is really wonderful and having an option of something besides Din Tai Fang and their wait and prices - I would always pick this Joyee!! They have wonderful selections from all over China - their Cumin Lamb is as authentic as I have had in Inner Mongolia, their Dou Miao (snowpea leaves with garlic) remind me of my trips to Beijing, their Sichuan La Zi Ji (Spicy Crispy Chicken) is as authentic as I've had in Chengdu. And my wife loves their Shu Mai. We also love their Beef with Rice Noodles, their Beef Noodle Soup, their WonTon Soup! I would estimate that we first discovered this Joyee, we would eat there probably 2-3 times every week. And now I would estimate 3-6 time a month. Interestingly, they are just around the corner from Chef Zhu, . . . . .but in my humble opinion, well, okay, I'm not that humble because I've spent decades in China, the majority of Joyees dishes are better! Hmmmmm, now that I've written this, I've got the craving to have Joyee for dinner!!

Beef belly hotpot was very tasty. Spicy pig ears dish was delicious. However, the Poway location seems to be more generous with beef belly portion than this location in Highlands.

Which items are vegetarian? I see a vegetable section, but no confirmation on whether those are made vegetarian (i.e. no fish sauce or similar).

The vegetables section did not have any meat in the dishes from what we ordered. For example it says broccoli with garlic and has no meat whereas there is a broccoli with chicken in the chicken section and broccoli with beef in the beef section.

Do they have high chairs or booster seats for toddlers/young children?

    yes

    Any vegan options?

We also ordered the garlic green beans, but they came out so late that we were already completely full from the noodles, so we took them to go. Overall, I felt the servers weren't too friendly either and seemed to rush through our table despite them standing around not seeming too busy. The food was excellent though! The soup had a great spice to it and super flavorful. The beef and onion was so juicy and addictive, the green beans were good too and had a slight kick to them.

The menu has quite a lot of good offerings it was hard to decide but feel not matter what you order here it's going to be delicious and authentic. They did keep several items from The Nood Bar! :: ORDER :: RED GUAVA ICE TEA ($5.95) - Oh my goodness, so yummy and refreshing. I'd say the caffeine level is very light on this one and I am ok with that. After stuffing my face I took a nice nap for someone who is caffeine sensitive. HIGHLY RECOMMEND GARLIC BUTTER NOODLES {$20.95) - Grilled lemongrass-marinated pork shoulder served over steamed soba noodles tossed with soy sauce, fried garlic, garlic oil, and butter alongside steamed botchy, finished with cilantro and a side of plum sauce. THIS WAS SO FLAVORFUL and yummy. I don't often eat garlic butter noodles so any garlic butter noodle is delicious to me. I did NOT see any fried garlic in my meal and felt it was only garlic oil that was present with the garlic profiles. The noodles were very garlic-y and butter-y. The pork shoulder was also perfectly marinated and dipping it in the plum sauce which was a mix of sweet and tangy paired well with the marination of the meat and butter-ness of the noods. It also came with ONE bakchoy sliced in half to appear as two. And I wish they some how incorporated the cilantro and carrots more into the dish instead of garnish to give some more herbal flavor. Even though, this dish was spot on. HIGHLY RECOMMEND Service was great! Did feel awkward when they handed me the machine to tap my card and leave a tip... they stood there watching you press the buttons. No being discreet picking up plates or looking away... just looking right at you. I know it's a thing with many restaurants now but it's awkward and don't feel like I have privacy. I will def be back! So many yummy dishes on the menu to try. Until the next slurp....

My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. A nice appetizer to share with the table. - $16.99-$19.99 (depends on what protein you get), Pad Thai: This proportion was manageable for one person. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice. They were filled with shrimp, thinly sliced pork, lettuce, vermicelli noodles, basil plus bean sprouts. The peanut plum hoisin sauce definitely carried them though. Add some of their chili sauce into it too. Delicious. Now for the Spicy Garlic Wings. I know everyone raves about these, but honestly, based on the ones we got, I feel like I would rather have Wingstop. They were really dry. I even asked a friend who has been here before if that was normal. Apparently they are usually not like that, so maybe we just caught them on a bad day or they spent a little too much time in the fryer. Either way, they had definitely lost a lot of their moisture. The flavor was there, but the dryness made it hard for them to really stand out to me. My favorite was easily the Korean Beef Short Ribs. They came out sizzling over caramelized onions with a generous amount of marinated meat. Great flavor. Great texture. Delicious. This was probably the one dish I would order again without thinking twice. The Char-grilled Beef, Eggroll & Cold Vermicelli Noodles were fine. The noodles were a little too bouncy and chewy for me. They almost tasted slightly underdone. The grilled beef had great flavor though. Once everything was mixed with the fish sauce, it came together much better.
