Tried the lunch special here for the first time, and overall it was a mixed experience. The egg roll and hot and sour soup were both solid, and the entrée portions were generous. The orange chicken was the standout--crispy, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. My search for the best orange chicken in San Diego might be over. The garlic shrimp with jalapeños had nice flavor, but the shrimp fell short. The light batter would've worked well for a salt-and-pepper dish, but with the sauce, it became pasty. As for the chicken with cashews and the kung pao chicken, both dishes tasted very similar due to the same brown sauce, which unfortunately lacked depth and flavor. Overall I felt my experience was 3.5 stars. I dropped in for an early dinner pick up order. The food was ready on time and the order was correct. The lady helping me at the cash register was friendly. The food was packaged in plastic containers so no issue with leaks or spills. The food portion was decent. The reason for 3 stars is two things: - how do you not include rice with each entree? It seems a bit greedy to charge $20 per entree and not include rice which cost pennies. If you want plain rice, it's an extra $2 per serving. Also fried rice for $14 with no meat? This is a very high profit margin. - the vegetables in our dishes were quite mushy like they were steamed and then sautéed again for the order. I prefer our vegetables to be fresh and crunchy. Interesting concept which is Chinese Halal food with zero MSG's. I honestly don't mind if my food has MSG's, but it's nice to know there's an Asian option without it. Parking is plentiful. Inside is not too small, but also not very large and no outside seating. We ordered their spicy eggplant which was addicting to say the least! It went perfectly well with white rice. We also ordered their salt & pepper shrimp which wasn't too overcooked and perfectly seasoned. My favorite thing there is their spicy orange chicken and sorry if that sounds so basic -- orange chicken? But it's bomb. We also had their cream cheese wontons which had a lot of filling! Delicious Chinese Islamic cuisine in generous portions! Ma's House has a wide selection of familiar Chinese dishes (e.g., Mongolian beef, chicken chow mein, fried rices, etc.) in addition to specialties that are not widely found. All their meats are halal. I highly recommend trying their sesame bread with green onion! It's deliciously fluffy with a pan-fried, crispy exterior. I grew up with a Ma's House in NorCal and this bread was always a must when my family ate there. Another special dish Ma's House has is their knife-cut/sliced dough chow mein (刀削麵). These are thicker, chewier noodles. Think the mouthfeel of gnocchi as opposed to regular pasta. We ordered takeout and ate too fast for photos, but we will surely be returning for many more meals! read more

They said come back and we'll correct it for you and you'll leave happy! My meal was replaced and they threw in an order of egg rolls on the house and that made happy! Service is nice. The parking in front of the store is just 15 mins. We were looking forward to the handmade noodles ($1 extra), but they weren't chewy at all. It felt like they were already cooked once then cooked again. The broth was good and I like the pairing with spinach for the beef noodle soup. I kept getting distracted by the bugs flying around. Eventually, they were eating with us too (see review photo). Not a fan of pre-dispensed water sitting on the side with this many bugs flying around the store. Bathroom is a little dirty. Kenny and David are usually our servers and they are the absolute BEST. So friendly and funny and just elevate our dining experience every time. Great service here! A group of us was in for dinner on a week night to celebrate a birthday. The waiter heard and brought out a slice of cake for us! It is not something they usually do, especially Chinese restaurants. The staff was really nice and friendly. Made all the difference between a good dining experience and a great one. We ordered a few dishes for dinner and had it family style. We like all the dishes we ordered. They were able to make modifications to the dishes. For example we asked for chicken chow fun instead of the usual beef chow fun. No problem! There are a lot of vegetarian options. It was one of the reasons why we picked this restaurant. Love this place! The food is so flavorful and the halal meat is so tender. The beef roll is very flavorful with seasoned meat and cilantro, could have used a sauce. Chicken with jalapenos was amazing. Perfectly fried little bits of tender (yes tender, even after frying) chicken with veggies, plenty of garlic, and a wonderful sauce. We ordered it mild and it was perfect, just got the heat from the jalapeños, which weren't very spicy. The spicy eggplant was perfectly cooked, creamy, not slimy in a wonderful sauce. It's a unique looking dish as the eggplant turns blue. We didn't order rice and consequently did not get any rice, you must have to order separately. Rice would have been good to get more of the sauces. All three dishes made for plenty of lunch leftovers. Staff was friendly and helpful with menu questions. Ma's house in Poway is new to the neighborhood but not San Diego. They also have a location in Clairemont that we have gone a few times. Glad to see they have a closer one to North County. What I like about Ma's house is the amount of selection and variety on their menu. We came in on a Sunday around noon and was seated right away. Some restaurants have lunch specials only on weekdays but Ma's house has it all week. I ordered the lunch special Shrimp with Asparagus (low sodium) and my hubby got the Fish fillet in black bean sauce. We also ordered Shrimp Chow Mein as well. The lunch specials comes with fried rice, soup (varies each day) and an egg roll. Our foods came out quick and and was freshly cooked. They're open for all holidays according to their sign out in front. We ordered the lunch specials (which was still valid 12/24), and were surprised at how large the portions were. Sautéed green beans - perfectly seasoned, not too oily or salty Orange chicken- subtle citrusy taste. It's listed as spicy but it wasn't bad at all Beef roll- this was listed as an appetizer but could have been a full meal. I could eat this whole thing in one go, it's so good, a must have! Green scallion thick bread - the flagship item. I was just ok with this dish, it's a little bland for me but everyone else at the table loved it Speciality 3 flavor noodles - best noodle dish I've had (3 flavors means shrimp, chicken and pork). My family and I are huge fans of Ju Feng Yuan in Poway, but today we decided to try some place different. We ordered take out. Everything was packaged neatly and nothing spilled on the way home, so that was a plus! I tried their won ton soup, chicken wings and fried beef dumplings. Every dish was underwhelming. The won tons were extremely mushy. Didn't taste fresh either. The homemade noodles were inconsistent with texture and rather thick/ hard to chew. And the broth flavor was rather bland. After ordering several different dishes for takeout we were quite disappointed when we learned that white rice was not included with any of the entrées we paid for, and there were no fortune cookies included. I went here on a weekday for dinner with a party of 4 and was able to be seated right away. They have tons of TVs along the walls, playing short clips, and cute decorations underneath. My party and I ordered the sizzling soup, beef chow fun, salt and pepper shrimp, and beef and broccoli. The portions were large so we didn't finish all the food. The taste of the food was ok. This Poway branch is amazing. I came here to get the Mongolian Beef lunch special for takeout, my family really loves it! The beef was tender and delicious. The egg rolls are also a favorite! The staff were super nice and helpful. I didn't dine in so I am not too sure of the overall inside ambiance but it seemed like there were many tables and it looked very clean. This was our first time here. We arrived at noon. There were plenty of empty tables. We were asked about drink orders and given menus right away. The menu is extensive with a capital E. We ordered the filet mignon with pepper sauce, and tofu on brown sauce lunch specials. Chicken corn soup and egg rolls were delivered quickly. Both tasted good and the egg rolls were fresh and crispy. Things went a bit downhill in the ambiance department. Our server repeatedly went to the kitchen opening and yelled at the staff. We both comment that we felt we were in a Hell's Kitchen episode. It was uncomfortable and did not gives us the feeling that our food was being prepared with love. There was a long delay to get our entrees and we notice some people who ordered after us were served first. Our server came by our table and apologized, saying there had been a computer issue. The entrees themselves were delicious. The sauces in both dishes were quite interesting, despite the rather non-descript "brown sauce" title on the tofu dish. There are a couple of other dishes I'm interested to try so we will probably go back. If the yelling carries over to the next visit, it will likely be our last. read more

Growing up with amazing Chinese & Taiwanese food in LA, I missed finding this kind of sesame bread with green onions here! I was so happy to find a restaurant that serves it in SD! I ordered food through a delivery app and everything arrived still super hot and delicious! I tasted the sesame bread with green onions (it comes in a classic pizza box and tasted very fragrant of sesame and green onions but I wish the skin was crispier), black pepper beef (not too salty or peppery & beef is cut into thin rectangular pieces), stir fry eggplant with brown sauce (oily but eggplant was cooked well), & their beef roll. The beef roll was my favorite item because of the unique thin wrap they use and how they season it! The beef was thin & tender, there was enough green onions, and the sauce was a perfect balance between sweet & savory without being overly salty.
