I've been here twice now, once I ordered online and I dined in recently. It's a little quiet around 1 pm which I like because I don't have to fight for a place to sit or wait too long. Both times, I've ordered the lunch chicken pad see ew noodles and it's always filling and so good! You get the option of choosing an egg roll or wontons and the wontons are soo yummy! Gor Gai's yellow chicken curry is the best mix of curry spicy with a little sweetness... it's the best around 4S! You order by spice level on a scale from 1 (no spice) to 10 (spicy). I typically hover around 5. Today I went 4. Service has always been great. They are unbelievably nice and courteous, usually asking/informing you of their patio seating, and delivering the food. I am a fan of how polite they are here. Ambiance: Inside is a little small. It's usually quiet too. Typically I sit outside or get my order to-go. They have a soda fountain for self serve drinks. Im so glad i tried this spot out. Ive been having an increasingly small appetite so ive been ordering kids meals. They have a great variety of kids meals here so I opted for the pad thai with tofu. Also upon checking in, i got a free thai tea which was the cherry on top! The kids pad thai was the perfect size for me and I also ordered a side of egg rolls. Both items came out piping hot and delicious. The egg rolls were crunchy and the plum sauce was amazing. The pad thai was really good too but was missing some important components of a pad thai such as peanuts, bean sprouts and lime. But I will ask for lime next time. Legitimate Thai food should be fresh and full of flavor. Had a craving and thought to give them a chance. That choice resulted is a limited menu with seriously bland food. I appreciate it was cooked fresh, but when you order a medium spice for one dish and the other is mild, they were both plain. My husband had the chicken curry. I ordered the fried rice. This is truly one of the best Thai restaurants I've ever been to and I've been to many. I really appreciate it when interesting spices are used because it makes it special. They do that here, and I've only experienced this at one other Thai restaurant and that was in Hawai'i! We ordered vegetarian dishes with tofu and they were all great. A delicious spot to get Thai food in 4S Ranch. Stopping in here on the way home to pick up some dinner was a great plan. I also want to note that even though they have no indoor seating there is plenty of outdoor seating. I ordered shrimp with glass noodles. They had quite a line of people waiting and a lot of to go orders. The staff inside had it all under control. I waited about 10 minutes for my food. It came out in a sealed paper bag with my receipt stapled on the bag. When I got home and opened the bag I pulled out my environmental friendly container and my food was still warm! Everything was delicious there were a lot of shrimp which is unusual these days. Lately, you only see about 4 shrimp. I kept finding shrimp and more the next day when I ate the rest. Some of the best Thai food I have had in the Southern California area, and especially in San Diego. Their lunch special is a wonderful combination of a main course item, a salad (the default one that they give is absolutely delicious), two cream cheese wontons (I believe you have another option), and a couple orange slices to cleanse your palette. The portion sizes for their regular menu options is most definitely generous in comparison to other local eateries in the area, and equally as flavorful as the lunch special. Visited Gor Gai today after not having had been here a while. Did a take out as they're open during COVID for to-go orders. Portions were great and price was awesome too! Dishes were well flavored! I cannot say enough good things about this place. We had a slight mixup with the restaurant giving us a seafood dish, when we're primarily a chicken/veggie kind of household. I left a voicemail for the restaurant, and they called back the next morning informing us that they would credit us an entree amount to the phone number we used to order with. Burnt wantons are hard to miss. Serving them ruins the whole dish cause then you're just stuck with an overpowering burnt flavor. Do you just pack em up anyways hoping that no one calls or complains? The Panang curry had the same consistency as the Tom Kah soup we ordered. In fact, they looked strikingly similar. What a weird- not good experience. Went here after work w a friend and it was empty. The service was strange and disappointing. They came out to tell us we couldn't have the egg rolls we ordered bc they "looked funny" and they didn't want to sell them to us. She asked if I'd like something else, I was hungry by this point and asked for drunken noodles... nothing came for 20 mins so I went inside to check, and was asked- did you want me to place that order now? I was so confused I said- why didn't you place it before? And was told- I thought you might want to take it home. I canceled the "order" and left. What happened to this place?? It used to be good when we first tried it. But now, after trying it another few times, the quality has really gone down. The most recent time was the final straw. My wife and I ordered pad see yew, fried egg rolls, and the yellow curry. The pad see yew was extremely bland and the vegetables were really sour (as if it was not fresh at all). It's the worst tasting thai food I ever had. Additionally, the egg rolls this time tasted as if it was store bought (tasted more baked instead of fried). We've bought the egg rolls here before and it didn't look/taste like how it did last time. What a let down. The yellow curry was ok, probably the only part that was good. This is a wake up call to the owners. Consistency is important. The food we tried the first time when we moved to the area has now gone way down in quality. Hopefully they can look at whats going on and change it around. Until then, I don't think we'll be going back. read more

Love the quality and quickness of their food and service. Price is very reasonable for their portions. You must try their MJ noodles that is on their special menu. Downside: they never have boba for their Thai tea and they don't have pork or duck as meat options. We go their every other week since we have to limit ourselves. Okay I've been here many more times since my review so it is worth an update. Since there is no other thai place close by we gave this place another chance. I stopped going for the pad Thai and curry which I felt were bland. I tried the eggplant stir fry with vegetable and now I'm hooked! I get it in medium since mild lacks in flavor. It is so good! I don't like it with chicken because it often is over cooked. My husband often gets the drunken noodle or pineapple fried rice. He's liked everything here so far but I've got a more sophisticated palate than him ;) A game changer... we got the "golden membership" through Chownow! It was $100 but now we get to save 25% on all orders for a year! If we eat here every other week we can easily get our money back and more! I'm surprised they have such a deal! If your eat here often I highly recommend the membership. They also have bronze which is 10% off for a year for $25 and silver 15% off for a year for $40. The gold membership is the way to go! Now that we have the membership I'll start branching off to other things on the menu but for now I LOVE the eggplant stir fry and I'm happy to get it every other week or once a week. If it wasn't for this membership, we wouldn't eat here so much. Also good is their take out routine. I order online or through the app then pick it off the table when I get there. Very minimal contact. After ordering to go here about 20 times, we've learned that the food is often ready 5-10 minutes earlier than they estimate. The downsides here... my favorite Thai dishes in general have been disappointing here. Also the spicy levels and portions can be inconsistent. Fast Thai food. I got the broccoli, pad see ew and egg rolls. The broccoli was delicious,and served with rice and other veggies. I got medium spice (out of mild, medium and spicy) for the pad see ew and it was spicier this time than last. The egg rolls were a little bland, but the sauce it was served with made up for it. I ordered the Pad See-Ew with Tofu ($9.95). Let me just say, that they have HUGE portions here. I could only finish half the dish, so two people could definitely split an order. For some reason I wasn't feeling the actual noodles. Maybe it was too bland for me or I didn't like the texture of it, but I found myself only eating the vegetables around the noodles and leaving the noodles alone. I also got it at the medium spiciness and couldn't taste the spice at all. Luckily though they have containers of chili oil on the side that helped to bring the spiciness up a lot. I've also seen some inconsistency with the curry. I've had instances where the coconut milk in the curry would separate from the rest of the ingredients (the oils maybe?) and make this weird consistency. Stirring it in doesn't really do anything to help so we've had to take it back for them to remake it. This is definitely a place where you'll be better doing take-out because there's really only 4 tables inside and a bar seating at the window. You could also grab a table outside if you want, or if there are any available. I'm not a fan of how they use take out containers for all of their dishes, even the dine-in orders. I think that restaurants should really be more environmentally conscious, so I was a bit disappointed when I received my order in a take out box. It may be cardboard, but why would you just keep adding more waste anyway when there's a way to avoid it? The chili oil also came in those plastic individual take out sauce containers, the utensils are all plastic, and the drinks come in plastic cups as well. The people here are nice, and if you have any complaints with your food, they will fix it immediately, which is great customer service, and is very much appreciated. However, the food here tends to be inconsistent and I'm not a fan of how all of their containers are made for take out, whether you are dining in or taking out. I might have liked that a little better than my dish because it had more veggies. The eggrolls were pretty good, I would get those again. The inside is pretty small with just a few tables. I had just finished work and after being so exhausted and hungry, I decided to try this place as a spur of the moment. Coming here was a great idea! I have tried and worked at different Thai restaurants and this place was definitely delivering on flavor. I went with the Thai Fried Rice spicy level 7. The heat was just right without sacrificing flavor. My protein was tofu and the texture was great and absorbed the flavor and spice well. I love Thai food and Gor Gai is another one of our favorite places for Thai take-out. We have enjoyed Thai food in Bangkok, Ko Samui, and enjoyed places in LA, OC, and San Diego. We've eaten at Gor Gai (usually take out) at least 10 times since they opened and have never been disappointed. The service is friendly, and there's a line for Take-out orders when you go to pick it up. Food: the flavors are fairly authentic to what we had in Thailand and at most other mom'n pop Thai places. For the location and convenience, we love it. There are other places locally that we love too (one in Solana Beach), but this place is solid. Portions were huge so be prepared to share. We usually get Pad See Ew with a meat or tofu, Eggplant, and Pad Thai. I like the Yellow curry as well and I've had the Panang curry too, which was excellent. ------------------TL;DR--------------- PROS: great flavors, friendly service, large portions, easy takeout process with its own line. Yelp Check-in gets you a Thai Tea or Milk Tea boba CONS: small place in terms of seating (if you want to dine in). can get busy at times. Despite that, the food has been tasty. During the current pandemic situation, they are offering pickup and delivery services. What we like about this place: - food tastes good and is hot and freshly cooked to order - food is usually ready within 10-15 mins of ordering - easy to call and place an order - free milk or Thai tea with a yelp check in :) - large portions What they can work on: - there is a high turnover of workers there, most of them being young. Some are friendly and eager to work; others are rude and seemed bothered by your mere presence. It would be nice to train all your employees to be friendly and professional to your guests.
