Super cute Thai restaurant with great service and yummy food. It's in the same shopping center as the Rancho Bernardo Sprouts. Plenty of parking. Met a friend for lunch and we enjoyed our meal, the server was very friendly and patient. We both ordered their pad thai lunch special and it came with salad, an egg roll and gyoza. They customize the spice level so if you like it spicy they got you. The salad dressing was very delicious and their eg roll was very crunchy. We also tried their mango tea and it was so refreshing. Will definitely be back to try their other food options. We stayed back catching up and they never asked us to leave or anything. Perfect place to have lunch and work remotely w/your hot spot.

    Spring roll

The food was delicious. Spring rolls were refreshingly crunchy and the peanut sauce was a little sweet with a little spice. One of the best peanut sauces I have had. The red curry with chicken was flavorful and we enjoyed the salmon with vegetables. The vegetable were nicely stir fried and had some crunch still with a delicious sauce. The mango ice tea had fresh mango chunks. Service was quick and friendly. I would come back there again.

This place exceeded our expectations! Even though it was extremely busy with only one open table, the staff never missed a beat. They stayed friendly, attentive, and made sure everyone was taken care of despite the crowd. The food was outstanding. My wife and kids prefer mild flavors, while I like my food with some serious heat, and the chef absolutely nailed every dish. The flavors were excellent, and the spice level was exactly what each of us wanted. The portions were surprisingly generous, especially for the price. It's refreshing to find a restaurant that serves high-quality food without cutting corners on quantity. Excellent service, delicious food, generous portions, and great value. We can't wait to come back and highly recommend giving this place a try!

New Thai food place serving curry and noodles in Rancho Bernardo. The decor is nice and the service is good, but some small things here and there regarding the food that kept it from being a 5 star experience for me. Overall a perfectly decent place to grab Thai food. APPETIZERS: Chicken satay - Lightly breaded unlike other places, gave it a fried fishcake like texture which wasn't what I was looking for in chicken satay. The peanut sauce was also a bit too salty for my liking. Fried tofu - Crispy, with a light and sweet sauce. Well done. Curry puff - A much sweeter, drier, and potato heavy curry. Very akin to a samosa. The flavor was pretty mild, but the skin was nice and flaky. Nothing to write home about. ENTREES: Chicken pad thai - Well sauced and flavorful, though I wish it came with more bean sprouts. They also give you only a spoon for serving which makes mixing and scooping difficult. Noodles are on the firmer side. Panang curry - Too salty for my taste and a little fish sauce forward. Comes with a small portion of white rice that feels definitely too small for the amount of curry.

This Thai restaurant was solid! Right when I walked in I was greeted warmly by the waiters and ushered to a booth. The interior was very modern, bright, and clean. I ordered the Khao Soi with steak and my wife ordered the pad Thai with shrimp. I was pleasantly surprised the steak was moist and medium rare! I've had a challenging time finding Khao Soi with consistently good steak. My wife's Pad Thai was solid but not spectacular. Service was really friendly and attentive and they even boxed up our leftover food for us which was a really nice touch! By 8:30 pm when we left, the restaurant had cleared out for an upcoming 9:00 pm close which was in line with expectations for a sleepy RB evening.

This is the shrimp pad see ew

Very tasty! Super friendly staff. Cute decor. Lovely menu. We enjoyed the shrimp pad see ew, vegetable drunken noodle and some gyoza. Everything was fresh. And mango sticky rice and bua loy for delicious dessert. Will be back!

Thai-rific from the first bite! @spoonthaikitchen Thai just opened in Rancho Bernardo and everything we ordered was so good -- creamy Thai tea, tom yum soup, chicken satay, crying tiger, and pad see yu, was absolutely delicious. A must-try new spot! The staff is soo friendly and love the atmosphere.

    Hot basil w/ chicken

Came by here for some dinner cause I didn't realize this restaurant had opened near my house. I ended up ordering a hot basil chicken dish with rice and my partner got the creamy tom yum. We also shared a papaya salad together. The papaya salad was probably the best dish we had as the sauce paired great with the papaya strips. As for the hot basil dish it was seasoned well and the sauce used paired well with the chicken pieces and vegetables included. On the other hand for the creamy tom yum soup it just felt like a more mild tom yum soup (less tamarind forward). Didn't wait very long for the food to come out and service was very friendly. The interior of the store was also decorated very nicely. All in all, it's a solid Thai restaurant that I would be happy to revisit!

Tried Khoa Soi with chicken for the first time, and it was delicious! The crunchy noodles they add on top adds such a great texture. We also got tofu spring rolls, and Penang Curry with tofu. The service was great and the decor inside is so cute.

I saw there was a new Thai restaurant next to Sprouts in the Rancho Bernardo complex and decided to try it out. Overall, we had a positive experience. The ambiance is modern and clean with several tables and booths inside. The menu includes a variety of options including soups, noodles, rice dishes, and appetizers. Their prices are comparable to other Thai places nearby with most entrees between $14-20. The servers were friendly and professional. Our food came out within minutes and was fresh and hot. What could make this place 5 stars? If the chef slightly tones down the salt...the noodles were a bit salty to taste. Also if they add a lunch menu!

    Large quantity of food

Awesome food, very friendly service and the service is very quick! It is one of the best decorated restaurants that I have been to! Everyone should try this place!

    Pad kee mao drunken noodles

Was really excited to try a new Thai restaurant! Unfortunately this was a huge miss for me. The drunken noodles (pad kee mao) was too sweet and lacked flavor. I ended up not being able to eat it. They use strong cleaning supplies so as soon as I walked in, it smelled like it. I thought the decor was nice though

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has been on my Yelp Want To Go list ever since my brother and SIL told me…read morethat they really enjoyed a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas and were told that a similar restaurant existed in San Diego. After their experience in Vegas, they tried Shan Xi themselves and glowingly talked about the delish food there. Today, 3/4s of my fam ate here and we definitely concurred with my brother and SIL's favorable assessment. 4.5 stars because their grub was amazing, but it could be more customer friendly where one of the staff checks to see if we need help ordering instead of ordering from the QR code menu. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen is located in the ultra competitive Convoy Asian District specifically on Convoy Street within the Convoy Village shopping center. The restaurant is next to our fave Asian drink place called Yun Tea, it's next to Olleh KBBQ, next door to Szechuan Chef, and a short walk to BB.Q Chicken. This is a popular strip mall, so it could be challenging for you to find parking. Parking is free for 90 minutes, but you'll have to pay after that time ends. Shan Xi is nice inside with gray brick on their walls, decorative lighting surrounded by rattan, Chinese dolls on a shelf, Chinese inspired figurine art on another wall, and a beautiful curio/screen containing Chinese knick knacks. Seating consists of tables/chairs and a long leather bench. Our servers were friendly, but to me having to order from a QR code is impersonal. I'd rather talk to a person, so that I can ask what they recommend. Plus, if diners aren't familiar with this type of cuisine, I'm sure they would have a bunch of questions. From Shan Xi Magic Kitchen's website, "Bringing the bold flavors of Northwest China to San Diego, Shan'xi Magic Kitchen serves authentic regional specialties. Our restaurants specialize in hand-pulled noodles, savory bread-based dishes, and traditional Chinese comfort food prepared with time-honored techniques." After being told that Shan Xi was similar to their positive dining experience at a different Chinese restaurant in Vegas, my brother and SIL tried Shan Xi and they were impressed by what they ate here and told us that we needed to eat here ourselves. Since my wife and I were off midweek, we invited our son to join us for lunch. We ordered the following dishes and feel free to mimick what we ordered: spicy cumin lamb burger, hand pulled noodle with cumin beef, beef magic fried rice, dry fried green beans, and a side of white rice. My brother and SIL love the lamb burger as a appetizer and we really thought it was tasty too. If you're not a spicy fan, this might not be for you, but the lamb was tender. The pita bread needed to be softer. Their hand pulled noodle with cumin beef was stellar, chewy, and delectable. Loved their beef magic fried rice and it ate really well by itself. The fried green beans were addicting, garlicky, and just yummy. I'm a fan Shan Ci and can't wait to try their other entrees. My brother and SIL were spot on with their positive reviews about Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. It was a blessing to have a spontaneous meet up with 3/4s of my fam and grub on some memorable Chinese food.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has Good Potential, But Missing Some of the "Magic". 徒有其表,未得其神…read more My wife and I came here tonight for a date night, and overall, I'd say Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has a lot of potential, but the food still feels like it is missing some of the finer touches that would make it truly memorable. First, some positives: the staff were very courteous, attentive, and eager to help. The restaurant was completely full when we arrived, and there was a party of 12 ahead of us, but the staff communicated the seating situation clearly. Despite the restaurant being packed, my wife and I were seated right away, which I appreciated. We ordered: * Two bowls of cumin lamb hand-pulled noodles * Stir-fried string beans * Shrimp fried rice The hand-pulled noodles had a good chew and satisfying texture, which is important. The cumin and spice were also prominent. However, my bowl had noticeably more grease sitting at the bottom than my wife's, and the flavor didn't really build as I ate. After the initial cumin and spice, it eventually became mostly just spicy rather than developing more layers of flavor. The shrimp fried rice was probably where I noticed the biggest difference. It seemed to use relatively fresh rice rather than day-old rice, which isn't inherently bad, but the grains didn't have that ideal 「粒粒分明」 texture you normally look for in good fried rice. The rice was more starchy and tended to clump together, and the overall flavor wasn't particularly 鮮 or savory. The stir-fried string beans were enjoyable, but I felt they were missing that strong 鍋氣 you get from proper high-heat wok cooking. They were cooked, but they didn't have that slightly charred, smoky, caramelized quality that makes stir-fried vegetables really stand out. One interesting observation: the clientele tonight was predominantly younger and English-speaking. That's obviously not a measure of food quality, but when I'm looking for particularly authentic Chinese food, I often notice that the restaurants packed with mainland Chinese, Taiwanese, or other Asian diners tend to have a certain extra level of authenticity behind the food. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen definitely looks and feels like an authentic Chinese restaurant, but some of the food tonight left me feeling 「形似神不似」or it has the appearance, but not quite the soul. And that's ultimately how I felt about this visit. Compared with what I remember from visiting over a year ago, I think the restaurant has a high ceiling, but it consistently misses a few of the right notes. The food isn't bad in fact, there are several things here that I genuinely enjoyed but it doesn't quite reach the level where I finish a dish thinking, "Wow, I need to come back specifically for this." They may have around 2,000 reviews, and I can understand why people enjoy the restaurant. But having had quite a bit of Chinese food in LA, I've personally had better versions of these dishes there. Overall: good service, good atmosphere, solid potential, and enjoyable food but the execution needs a little more refinement before it becomes truly memorable.

At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. A nice appetizer to share with the table. - $16.99-$19.99 (depends on what protein you get), Pad Thai: This proportion was manageable for one person. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice.
