This is a personal favorite of mine, Sushi Exchange is an incredibly unsuspecting favorite for San Diego sushi. Situated by a 7-Eleven gas station outside of a suburban neighborhood, it is easy to pass by and never even see it was there. However, if you are one of the lucky few to have tried their food, you realize it is more than just a cute little sushi shop and actually quite competitive with its taste for value ratio.inside they have 4 screens (recently it seems only 3 consistently turned on) which show either a disney or ghibli movie, some anime (usually Naruto or boruto), sometimes they will have the news on one (which is new), and a martial arts movie. This has seemed to change frequently in the past couple of years so I would not get your hopes up for all of them unfortunately, but the overall atmosphere (while a bit tacky) is really nice and generally very quiet. Nearly all the food you can get here is fairly priced, and besides the sushi, I have not had one dish that I didn't love. The service changes from month to month but errors on being mostly friendly and attentive. I highly recommend trying the Ninja roll and the Shishito Peppers as they are two items I feel they do particularly welll, but no matter what you decide to order, I doubt you will be disappointed. I like big ROLLS and I cannot lie. This place does not skimp on the food. I ordered 2 specials and eel sashimi and it was a meal for 4 people. Very generous portions. Definitely not a cheap meal but it's a good amount of food. I liked the blood orange yellowtail roll. Very creative and loved the fresh and salty taste. The spicy tuna crispy rice wasn't my favorite but I think it was creative. It was like a deconstructed roll but I felt a bit too much with the sauce. The blood orange roll was nice and balanced with the slice of orange on the yellowtail. And highly recommend the eel sashimi. Very well done. For a casual sushi meal, this is probably my favorite place in North San Diego. Find myself coming here whenever I crave sushi. They have great prices and they have rolls here that I haven't been able to replicate elsewhere. Always order the flaming hey Lee and yuzu yellowtail along with a new third roll every time I come. Every time I have friends in town, this is where I take them. Their Yuzu Yellowtail is absolutely incredible, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with a wasabi mayo on top. The staff was friendly and attentive, checking on us several times to make sure everything was going well. The teasers were a great way to kick off our appetite. We came here for dinner. There's a sign saying please wait to be seated but the waiter said we could sit anywhere we wanted. The chair was a little dirty with stickiness and food droppings from past guests. I think it would be nice if they ensured the table and chairs were clean. I just switched the chairs since there were plenty of them at the table. The menu is a QR code which is located on the utensils box. We ordered the Crispy Garlic Tofu, a House Salad, Spicy Seafood Udon, Shrimp Tempura Roll, Alaskan Roll, and I believe a Dragon Roll as well. To drink we had water and 2 ramune original sodas. The waiter was really nice and helpful, he helped us open our bottles when we were struggling. He was also attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed (extra spice, a fork, etc). The crispy garlic tofu was really salty and heavily flavored. While the crispiness of the tofu was lovely, the sauce was just too potent. I think if you had some rice it would lessen the strength of the flavor. The house salad was ok, but they gave you the dressing in a small container. I think it would be much better if they massaged the dressing into the salad since it didn't really hold all to well when we tried to mix it with our chopsticks. The most prominent flavors were carrot and ginger. Which is pretty typical for house salads at sushi restaurants. I wish it came together more nicely though. The rolls were generous and big. They had both seaweed and a vibrant green soy paper. While the rolls might have looked the same, they were different. One has shrimp tempura, the other had eel, and the last one had some raw orange fish. The spicy seafood soup wasn't super spicy thankfully since my cousins and aunt can't handle the heat. They had ample amount of seafood in the soup. From crabs, to shrimp, to calamari, mussels, etc. The udon was perfectly cooked! Overall it was a delicious spot for dinner! They were even playing Boruto on TV. I recommend this spot to friends and family. They have an extensive menu which both kids & adults can enjoy. read more

It wasn't bad, just kind of average, so next time I'll be trying something different. I noticed a lot of people eating out of ramen/udon bowls, so it seems like that's a popular choice here. But also look up right under the TVs as they have additional specials menu. They have outdoor seating with 3-4 tables and have a doggie water bowl for your fur child. It is a bit loud as it is right next to the busy street. We love coming here when we are in the mood for the Korean Chinese JjamPpong (spicy seafood noodles) as their spicy sea food udon tastes just like it. It comes with a lot of sea food including crabs. Their sashimi and rolls are pretty good too. Always fresh and they come with a good amount of fish. They do use the generic paste wasabi and not the freshly graded one. It's suitable for all occasions, and has a good list of local and imported craft beers on tap. They don't have happy hour which sucks on food but they do have it on beer. My son loves the baked California with scallops and salmon on top and I've got to say it is phenomenal. They've got great sushi I mean it's not Ken's Workshop quality but it's good and priced reasonably and they've got some fantastic rolls, one of my favorites is the Yuzu yellowtail.
