Nice little fresh fish corner to satisfy your sushi craving without breaking the bank. Good and quick amiable service. Cozy and clean interior with cute deco. Rolls are creative, fish is fresh, portion is generous and cost is relatively low. We ordered garlic edamame, lemon cilantro roll, yuzu yellowtail roll. Really like the controlled sour taste of lemon. The shrimp tempura in the Yuzu Yellowtail roll can be a little bit more crunchy. Green tobiko added a surprisingly popping touch to the roll. Not over the top but checked all the boxes. Recommended.

Their chef is sick :( Hope he can go back into remission soon

I like big ROLLS and I cannot lie. This place does not skimp on the food. I ordered 2 specials and eel sashimi and it was a meal for 4 people. Very generous portions. Definitely not a cheap meal but it's a good amount of food. I liked the blood orange yellowtail roll. Very creative and loved the fresh and salty taste. The spicy tuna crispy rice wasn't my favorite but I think it was creative. It was like a deconstructed roll but I felt a bit too much with the sauce. The blood orange roll was nice and balanced with the slice of orange on the yellowtail. And highly recommend the eel sashimi. Very well done. Really fast service and again, generous portions of everything. Great waitress. Small parking lot out front. And the restaurant isn't large itself but great solo or with another person.

For a casual sushi meal, this is probably my favorite place in North San Diego. Find myself coming here whenever I crave sushi. They have great prices and they have rolls here that I haven't been able to replicate elsewhere. Always order the flaming hey Lee and yuzu yellowtail along with a new third roll every time I come. I find those two to compliment each other and the third roll is always good no matter what I get. This time I tried the Ted's truffle which was also great.

Great neighborhood sushi spot, located in the same lot as 7-11 and Dominos. Service is always friendly here and they have screens playing anime and old Asian movies. Seating can be limited inside but they also have several outdoor seating tables. Happy is from 3-6 but only consists of drink specials. ($5 beers and hot sake). Wish they had some sushi specials :p Their fish always tastes fresh and of good quality, decent pricing too. I always order the ninjette roll-my go to.

Continues to be our go to for great sushi! Any new appetizer/roll we've tried hasn't disappointed us so our list of favs simply keeps growing longer. Huge fans.

Sushi Exchange is hands down my all-time favorite sushi spot! I find myself coming back at least every two weeks because it never disappoints. Every time I have friends in town, this is where I take them. Their Yuzu Yellowtail is absolutely incredible, fresh, flavorful, and perfectly balanced with a wasabi mayo on top. I also love the Chef's Choice Nigiri, which always feels like a special treat with the quality and variety they serve. I always do the chopped wasabi to pair with my nigiri. The Lemon Cilantro is also very good as well as the Flaming Haley. The prices are very affordable for the quality you get, and the service is consistently amazing. My servers Maylinh and Sally were very welcoming and sweet. Everyone is very friendly, attentive, and welcoming. Whether you're a sushi lover or just looking for a go-to spot that feels both high-quality and affordable, Sushi Exchange is the place. Highly recommend!

Still as great as when it opened. We really love the quality of the food. The service is always fast and very friendly. The restaurant is small and inside can get full quick so always plan to sit outside. We will continue to eat here, we really love it.

Such an underrated "hole in the wall" type of place. I'm lucky i live down the street and can indulge in this delicious sushi place so often! Tastes GREAT, service is great, and prices are soo fair and unbeatable for Carmel Valley area. Very very happy to live down the street from this gem!

Outdoor seating is available, and that's where we settled in to enjoy our lunch in the sunshine. The ambiance outside was pleasant and nicely shaded. The staff was friendly and attentive, checking on us several times to make sure everything was going well. The teasers were a great way to kick off our appetite. The sashimi was fresh and beautifully prepared. Their specials--the spicy tuna crispy rice and jalapeño lime roll were tasty. Although I wish the crispy rice pieces (4 in total) had been smaller. They were so filling that I didn't have room to fully enjoy more rolls or dessert. Overall, the food was solid, but nothing truly stood out for me.

My go to spot for sushi. Staff are always so friendly and although this place is known for their sushi rolls, their katsu is exceptional. After trying a bunch of dishes each time I go, my favorites have to be: Ted's Truffle Blood Orange Roll Dr Young J Roll Their sashimi is also yummy, but I think Sushi Exchange's rolls are what really makes them stand out from all other sushi restaurants.

Affordable sushi that's great quality! There is sometimes a wait, but it's well worth it! They offer a yummy variety of cut rolls so there's always something for everyone. The restaurant is fairly small, but they do offer outdoor seating, so plan your visit accordingly. It's awesome that they constantly have anime playing on their TVs and the staff are friendly.

Ordered a chef's choice nigiri for takeout. The food was pretty solid and they did not skimp on the fish - very solid fish to rice ratio. Bonus points for nice presentation!

Beef noodle soup - excellent flavor overall, including a strong broth and a nice, soft texture to the noodles. Out of the countless Chinese restaurants I've visited for beef noodle soup, this makes its way into the top three. 5/5 Lamb skewers - wayyyyy too dry. This is certainly not their specialty, and asking for extra cumin to sprinkle on the lamb did not redeem the firmness. I struggled to slide the meat off the skewer and ended up just eating it while still on the stick. 1.5/5 Fish fillet - so good. Easy to eat texture-wise. Caution -- a bit saltier than it looks. The bell peppers in particular were seasoned spectacularly. 4.5/5 Dry fried green beans - a delicious option for vegetables to add to the table. Most people will enjoy this one in my opinion. A bit more crunch than I expected, which is not a bad thing. 4/5 Double cooked pork - I've never seen it cooked this way, and am not a fan. I'm used to a more oily version of this dish. It contained a bunch of dried and crunchy... yams? Potatoes? Overall, the dish was mainly crunch with no flavor, and contained a relatively small amount of pork. 1/5

Parking can get pretty competitive here so come early. Seating: Inside seating for maybe about 25 people, 5 small groups or so. Vibes: North Park is known for its lively food and entertainment scene, but this spot leans more on the calm and cozy side--which is a nice change of pace. If you're looking for something more relaxed, this is your spot. I enjoyed the subtle Japanese-inspired playlist in the background--it added to the overall ambiance without being distracting. The artwork gives the space a warm touch, especially the Bruce Lee painting. It feels like one of those places you can come back to regularly when you want something comforting and reliable. Definitely more comfort-focused than trendy, and that's part of the appeal. FOOD / DRINKS Spicy Miso Noodle Soup (Recommend) This was a solid bowl. You're getting a spicy miso broth with slow-cooked pork belly, bok choy, carrots, and noodles (ramen or udon)--so it hits that comforting, savory lane right away. The broth has a nice kick without being overwhelming, and the pork belly adds that richness to balance everything out. It's one of those bowls that feels hearty, warm, and satisfying--especially if you're craving something with depth and a little spice. SERVICE Friendly and efficient. Food comes out pretty quickly, which is always a plus when you're hungry. TL;DR OVERALL 4 stars. Good food, reasonable prices, rich selection, and a pleasant experience. It seems to be a favorite for locals as there was a steady flow here. If you're in need of some good broth, this is your spot. At first, she said the order only could be done on 1 bill. And then later she compromised with 2 bills, 5 people per table. That was nice of her! I just had 2 coffees before entering so I decided to skip ordering Thai tea. But they had a large drink menu, of fruit teas and more. My friend had the lychee tea which was very large and looked super refreshing! They also came by often to top off our waters which was nice. To eat, I ordered the $16.99~, Cashew Chicken Stir Fry with White Rice. It came with onion, green onion, carrots, zucchini, bell pepper, and cashews. The carrots were beautifully cut, but a little too crunchy for me to properly enjoy in the stir fry. Everything else was delicious! I think this could definitely be shared between 2-3 people. It was a lot for me, even after a large hike. The sauce was flavorful and not overly salty. I didn't ask for any spice level, but I think I'd choose mild or medium next time. My friends ordered-- - $12.99, Dirty Fried Chicken: This had a blitz coating of lime, mint, and spices. And it was decorated with thinly sliced green onions with a side of sweet chili sauce. The chicken was hot and plump, not dry, and very much mouthwatering! Would recommend. - $14.99, Thai Grilled Chicken Salad: Grilled Chicken Breast on a bed of mixed green salad, carrots, and cucumbers with peanut dressing. It reminded me a little of chicken satay~ it smelled and looked incredible. I think I might order it next time, when I want something light and fulfilling after a hike. - $11.99, Cream Cheese Avocado Wontons (6PC): These came out piping hot and when you took a bite they were oozing. It was very creamy and when you dip into the plum sauce it's a delectable bite. A nice appetizer to share with the table. - $16.99-$19.99 (depends on what protein you get), Pad Thai: This proportion was manageable for one person. The restaurant used thin rice noodles, but it didn't clump excessively compared to other restaurants. The prices are what you'd typically see at a Pan-Asian restaurant, a few dollars more than what you'd want to spend. But these kinds of restaurants, in my opinion, are for enjoying with others. So, if you're sharing food and all that-- the price is worth it (esp with the quantity that is given). Next time, I would probably order one of their noodle dishes rather than rice.
