I ordered Dan Dan noodles and cold spicy chicken for take out. The noodles were ok but the chicken was very delicious. It's my first time inside. It was traditional Chinese decoration. I'm impressed with the entrance. I'll have to dine in soon and try other dishes.

Came here on a weekday night looking for some Chinese food. When you enter, you won't have any trouble finding a seat as the inside has plenty of tables. Service was good. Be prepared for the spice. We ordered the big plate chicken and the spicy intestines. Would come back again!

They really know how to play with the spices. Delicious in every way. Nice folks. No English, so you need to know what you want. After they bring you the food to the table, you never see them again. LOL....But the tea is free. Kick azz fried rice 4 sure! All in all, exquisite preparation.

Had another amazing lunch here with my BFF we shared everything and we also had the eggplant with minced pork that was absolutely delicious. This time we started with the cold hot and sour jelly noodles (made with Konjak- low carb) they were delicious but slippery then we got the steamed pork and cabbage dumplings which were cooked to perfection then came the spicy eggplant with minced pork, but the star of the show is the cubed spicy chicken! The ratio of chicken to chili peppers is amazing! That chicken is so addictive- it has a wonderful numbing sensation due to the Szechuan peppercorns but it doesn't burn so bad it makes you uncomfortable. The service was exceptional my BFF speaks Chinese so she orders for us and always makes polite conversation with the waitress. The servers came by regularly to refill our waters or makes sure that we had everything we needed. The restaurant is decorated nicely and very welcoming. The other plus for me is always a clean restroom, and theirs was definitely very clean! I can't wait to go back and have another amazing meal. We love trying new items on the menu. Thank you!

My friend suggested I try Spicy House when I told him how much I love going to Spicy City for their spicy Szechuan food--such a great recommendation. Spicy House not only serves similar dishes but also has over 200 items to choose from. They made my favorite Salt & Pepper Popcorn Chicken just as good or slightly better. My other favorite is the fresh Pea Leaves stir-fry with garlic. The service was a little slow but every item ordered came out kitchen hot, tasty, and with a generous portion. Most of the servers didn't speak English as well but they were very polite and helpful. Spacious with nice big round tables for big parties. However, the parking is tight and will be a problem in busy times.

A classic Chinese restaurant where the food is good and cheap but the service is questionable hahaha. The menu is packed with so many options it did take us a minute to even decide what to get. They do have some good vegetarian options. My favorite was the mixed mushrooms in a dry pot. It was a classic Mala flavor with extra chilis. It wasn't too spicy! We ordered so much food (not pictured) and the total for 5 people came to $80! Can't beat those prices.

I noticed Spicy House serves Da Pan Ji (Big Plate Chicken) for just over $20, so I decided to try it along with Dongpo Pork, salted egg yolk tofu, and scallion pancakes--dishes my dad loves. Everything was delicious and great value! The tofu was super flavorful and perfect with rice, the pork was tender and not greasy, and the Da Pan Ji was a huge portion with wide noodles, making it an incredible deal. Only the scallion pancake was average. My dad loved the meal, and with four of us eating, we still had leftovers!

Incredible Chinese food. The pork buns were so good and I loved the General Tso's chicken. They had such great flavors. The beef also tasted great but was kinda tough. The staff was very friendly and they brought us tea. You can order with a QR code pretty easily. The inside is very nicely decorated and the seating is nice. Would go again!

Spicy House Fried Chicken cube with hot peppers. Balance chicken and spices.
    Rowel D.

Their Fried Chicken Cube with Hot Pepper is one of my favorites in town. The dish is delicious--the fried chicken cubes are generous in portion compared to Spicy City down the street and every bite has a nice balance between spicy chilies and flavorful, tender chicken. The restaurant is clean and the staff are friendly as well. If you love spicy and want to actually enjoy plenty of chicken with every bite, Spicy House really delivers on both flavor and portion. Highly recommended for anyone into Szechuan-style fried chicken!

Came here to try their mapo tofu after having an extraordinary version of the dish at Taste of Chengdu in Orlando. Although it didn't reach the excellence of TOC's version, this was nevertheless very good. There's a bit of a language barrier here, but communication was adequately achieved with pointing and gesturing of various sorts. Ambiance was about as expected for a smallish strip-mall restaurant of this type.

Beware, this place is not for the faint of the heart if you can't take spicy food! They specialize in family style Sichuan cuisine where Chinese peppercorn and various chilis/spices are used. My table ordered a total of 7 dishes, and all of them were so aromatic and full of flavors with various Chinese spices. You know it came straight from the wok as they were popping hot. The lazy Susan allowed our big group to try and share every dish, which I must say is the essence of a proper Chinese cuisine experience. I highly recommend their Mapo Tofu, Fried Chicken Cubes with Hot Pepper and Szechuan Style Spicy Fish. These dishes were so well seasoned that they will make you eat at least two bowls of rice. Just make sure to have mercy on yourself and get a few non-spicy dishes to balance out the heat - I really enjoyed their eggplants and stir fried string beans, though they are both on the greasier side. The total price per person came up very reasonable with all the dishes we got to try. There were also plenty of leftovers! *Side note, they allow for Yelp reservations, which I have learned is not always an option among the other Chinese restaurants in the area, so extra brownie points.

They have an iPad with picture of every dish which is really helpful to better understand what you are ordering, especially if you want to try something different. The chili oil put on the table was HOT! Most spicy chili oil I've had at any restaurant on convoy I loved it. Prices are fair because the portions are BIG. Two people can easily share one dish, keep that in mind because we ordered too much food. The dumplings were really big too. We ordered: Kung pao shrimp (fried and sweet sauce) Mapo tofu Pork and chive dumpling Dry green bean Scallion pancake Rice for two We were extremely full and had leftovers for another meal for us both. Service was completely fine. Food was not any more oily than I have had at other places I've eaten at. I've eaten at many, many restaurants on convoy and I would come back.

It is a family style restaurant, but I still go here with small groups or with just one other person. The atmosphere is nothing special and can get a bit lively when it is busy. Service is decent, but nothing to write home about, and it can feel inconsistent at times, which doesn't take away from the food itself. I always end up ordering multiple dishes here, but this is my favorite lineup. Sizzling Japanese Tofu - 铁板日本豆腐 (5/5): This is my absolute must-order dish whenever I dine here. As a tofu lover, this may be one of the best tofu dishes you have ever tasted, and even for my friends who don't like tofu, they really enjoyed it. It is an egg tofu that is fried, which gives the tofu a great outer texture contrast. The gravy that the tofu is served with is very flavorful without being overpowering, and it makes you come back for another bite. Dry Pot Pork Intestines - 干锅肥肠 (5/5): Intestines may seem very daunting for some due to it not being commonly eaten in every culture. In this case, the intestines are cleaned well and have a great chew and tenderness to them. The dry pot is loaded with chilies and aromatics, which give it a bold and numbing flavor without being overly greasy. It is served over a small fire that keeps it piping hot, which allows you to taste the fragrance of the dish. Stir-Fried Pea Shoots with Garlic - 蒜炒豆苗 (4.5/5): A great lighter dish to provide you with some contrast to the heavier items while also being a great standalone dish. It is stir-fried with garlic, which provides a great aroma along with the fresh vegetables. It is not a flashy dish by any means, but when it is done properly, you can taste the skill of the chefs. Rice Noodles with Pickled Mustard Greens and Shredded Pork -酸菜肉丝米线 (5/5): This was considered an accidental discovery for me. I am not the type to usually order noodles at a Chinese restaurant as I am more of a rice person, but my girlfriend ordered it, and it was amazing. I have had my fair share of rice noodles all over Southern and Northern California, and this one has the best flavor. The combination of pickled mustard greens and slight chilies provide a very refreshing flavor that isn't heavy on the palate but not overwhelming, which keeps you addicted to eating it. This is a very comforting dish, and I would come here just for the noodles. Husband and Wife Sliced Beef & Offal/Spicy Beef Slices - 夫妻肺片 (4/5): It is served cold which might be unusual to some people but this allows for tasting every bit of seasoning they used while also preserving the texture. It is spicy, so beware of your spice tolerance, but the dish is very layered and flavorful, making it a very worthwhile order. From a broader perspective, the service may not be a highlight, but I am still going to give Szechuan Chef a five star rating from the food alone. I have yet to taste a bad dish from this restaurant, and the consistency alone speaks volumes. It has reasonable pricing compared to other places in San Diego, so the barrier to entry is low. If you like Chinese food but have never had Szechuan food, come give it a try. If you like Szechuan food but have never had this place, then you absolutely need to.

Beef noodle soup - excellent flavor overall, including a strong broth and a nice, soft texture to the noodles. Out of the countless Chinese restaurants I've visited for beef noodle soup, this makes its way into the top three. 5/5 Lamb skewers - wayyyyy too dry. This is certainly not their specialty, and asking for extra cumin to sprinkle on the lamb did not redeem the firmness. I struggled to slide the meat off the skewer and ended up just eating it while still on the stick. 1.5/5 Fish fillet - so good. Easy to eat texture-wise. Caution -- a bit saltier than it looks. The bell peppers in particular were seasoned spectacularly. 4.5/5 Dry fried green beans - a delicious option for vegetables to add to the table. Most people will enjoy this one in my opinion. A bit more crunch than I expected, which is not a bad thing. 4/5 Double cooked pork - I've never seen it cooked this way, and am not a fan. I'm used to a more oily version of this dish. It contained a bunch of dried and crunchy... yams? Potatoes? Overall, the dish was mainly crunch with no flavor, and contained a relatively small amount of pork. 1/5

The dining room was fairly large including some round tables that could hold parties of eight or more. The parking situation was easy during the time of my visit, but I could see it as challenging during the peak lunch and dinner hours. If you like spicy and exotic offerings in a family style setting, then this place should be perfect. I saw listings like Pork Kneecaps Soup with Radish & Corn and Spicy Bullfrog, but my palate was not that adventurous to give them a try. The menu booklet had several pages with nice large photos of each item that I appreciated. The last pages contained the most conservative dishes of which I selected the Beef Chow Mein. My food took a while to be made even though they weren't busy, and the preparation was simple. The noodles were served on a square plate with several tender pieces of beef. I was impressed with how soft the meat was as it's typically chewier in a noodle dish. To really appreciate this cuisine, you needed an open mind and/or you grew up eating a Hunanese cooking style. Otherwise, your meal will be limited to a minority of the selections from the kitchen. The service was quite slow with two ladies covering the entire dining area that was less than half occupied. They seemed more preoccupied with bussing dirty tables than focusing on the seated customers. I placed my order using the QR code provided at each table. Other than delivering my chow mein, neither worker checked on me while I was eating. I had to flag them down to bring the check as you couldn't pay online.
