As a soupy gal, I really thought I didn't like dry pot until Sizzling Pot King. Dry pot is essentially hot pot without the soup- a stir fry version if you will. At Sizzling Pot King, you're able to customize pot size, spice level, flavor, and all toppings. My favorite flavors are garlic if you can't handle too much spice and spicy if you're looking for a little kick. I'd recommend staying with mild to play it safe since things can heat up pretty quickly! As for toppings, my favorite protein is by far their braised pork belly. So so good! Veggies wise, all pots come with potatoes, broccoli, celery, and beansprouts. You then have the option to add more. Quality ingredients + fire sauce = a kick-ass meal. An amazing spot for group dinners with endless customizations and generous portions to share!
It's located in the same center as Yiko Yiko, Subway, Chaba, Matcha Cafe Maiko, Brothers 3, etc. Nissan dealership is across the street on one side and Cheetah's us diagonally across the intersection from it (for those who need a more recognized landmark). Been to eat and grab togo from here many times over the years. Food tastes better at the restaurant with the fire going under the serving platter, just ignore the decor. Service is good and they offer cash discount.
I really enjoyed the dry pot I ordered here! The restaurant was almost completely empty on a Sunday night, so the service was incredibly fast. I came here with four friends, and we all shared a large pot. The portion sizes were really generous. Our dry pot included beef tongue, quail eggs, napa cabbage, vermicelli, eggplant, bean sprouts, potato, broccoli, intestines, and more. The five of us barely finished the large pot, and the price was really affordable. We ordered the mild spice level, and it was already quite spicy. The dry pot paired so well with bowls of rice since it had quite a kick to it. I liked being able to customize the dry pot, and the ingredients and sauce were delicious. I will definitely be visiting again!

My table got the large pot to share and it was perfect for 4 people. It comes with two meats (we chose beef tongue and thinly sliced beef) and we paid more to add rice and napa cabbage. I wish it came with more veggies because it can get pretty pricey adding on more items. Service was alright; they did not really check up on us. I didn't know what dry pot was until I discovered this place but boy am I glad I did. Every time I think about their dry pot I start salivating, it's that good!!! Everyone I've introduced to this place has loved it as well. If you are a fan of hot pot and the Chinese spice/flavor palette you should at least give this place a shot. Pre-Covid I used to sit in the restaurant and eat there, but recently I've just been ordering pick-up and doordash delivery. Both are amazing options. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you sit-in, they keep the pots warm for you and the decorations on the wall are cool too (came here with a Chinese party and they loved all the historical references).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food also keeps and re-heats very well if you do take-out, and the pot also comes in a huge tray that is wonderful for larger parties. Food is just absolutely delicious and so savory. The spice is no joke but you can choose what kind you want (e.g. mala vs. garlic etc) and also how much spice (e.g. mild, medium). Medium can be pretty spicy but if you order no spice you're not doing the dry pot flavors justice, so I usually go with mild if there's anyone in the party with low spice tolerance. I like to eat their dry pots with white rice (which you have to order separately) because I feel like it balances out the flavors. Dry pots come with some veggies at baseline (broccoli, potato, celery) + a meat of choice but you can pay to add more sides! My personal favorites are the thinly sliced beef, enokhi mushrooms, and ramen/glass noodles. Wonton in spicy sauce is AMAZING and 100% worth ordering (and this is coming from someone who eats a lot of frozen dumplings on the regular). The sauce is just incredible. Their mashed eggplant and green pepper with preserved egg is also so good and flavorful!!! Prices are reasonable and parking in the plaza is pretty easy!

Dry pot time! Have been meaning to try this place for a while. Had the opportunity to go when a friend visiting from Seattle was also having cravings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant wasn't too crowded when we entered at 6pm but was almost completely full as we exited around 7:30.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's a healthy sized parking lot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior has a cool wallpaper and vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was attentive and friendly from the waitress. The male server was more straightforward yet efficient. We opted for a combo dry pot - which includes two proteins. Our choices were shrimp (shell on with heads) and braided pork belly. You also get your choice of flavoring and spice level. We did numbing spice at a medium level. Finally, choose additional toppings to mix-in. The portion was huge! Super flavorful and delicious. This meal really hit the spot.
It's OVER for broth hot pot omg. Sizzling Pot King is a guaranteed flavorful and filling meal, no matter what you order. 3 of us shared the medium vegetable hot pot with lotus root, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, eggplant, silk noodles, tofu skin, and taro. Delicious delicious delicious, but my favorite part was the potato (that already is a default inclusion) and the tofu skin. Do not miss out on those! The decor is also an ~experience~
Super authentic and delicious Chinese dry hotpot place. Both my husband and I love this place beginning from 5 years old. We had two different flavors of small portion dry pots this time. I had mild spicy and sour flavor, which I love a lot, it's the right level for me. My husband had super spicy SiChuan Mala flavor, which is very on heat, he enjoyed! For the main ingredients we chose, I highly recommend the beef tongue and tendon, they are big pieces and tastes awesome. My husband's pot has pork belly in it, it is very yummy, I highly recommend this if you are not that adventurous. But if you are, you can try frog, it's really good! I also love the thousand years eggs with eggplants, it's very true authentic taste and delicious! We loved the brown sugar fried mochi, and icy jelly desserts as well. Both are perfect to finish a yummy and spicy meal.
Great flavor and good portion size. Would definitely come back ! Large griddle was enough for three people and we had left overs. Large griddle includes two protein, we got braised pork belly and thin sliced beef. Added an additional protein - beef short ribs - and veggie - enoki mushrooms, Napa cabbage, and tripe. Side of rice. I wouldn't get the beef short ribs again, the meat was too chewy. The braised pork belly was delicious! Total cost was about $33/person.
Absolutely delicious! This is a Sichuan dry pot - which means the food is cooked in oil, not broth. It was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend getting baby corn and choosing 2 meats to liven up your experience!
Sizzling Pot King is a chain. Not impressed with the food. The menu is like half scratched off like it's "sold out". Prices are increased using white label stickers. They should just reprint a whole new menu or restock inventory. They gave disposable bowls and utensils. Except for the water cup and pitcher. We wanted to order certain items but it got crossed off so we got their signature dry pot. We wanted small but it got crossed off. How? Can't you make smaller portions? Medium serves 2-3 so we got medium. 1) pick the size, medium ($26.99) or large ($36.99); 2) choose your flavor, we got garlic; 3) choose your spice level, we got mild; 4) choose your pot, we got braised pork belly. It automatically comes with celery, potatoes, cauliflower and bean sprouts. Adding more sides is additional. The pot comes cooked and sizzling hot that is kept warm with a chafing dish underneath. We also ordered Wuhan hot dry noodles ($6.99) and wonton in spicy sauce ($7.99) which is basically in chili oil. It wasn't spicy and the hot dry noodles were bland in a diluted peanut sauce. Glad we didn't get rice and used the noodles to eat with the pork belly. The mild spice was perfect because it had a kick. Overall, the food here lacks quality, flavor and selection. 2.5 stars but bumped to 3 for the self serving water pitcher. Plus they allowed us to split checks with two credit cards.

They have great food and really attentive service here. It had been several years since I last visited here- and I was really impressed with how they've remodeled the place! It looks a lot more modern now. My friends and I ordered the large dry pot and included braised pork belly, mushrooms, and the garlic sauce. They give you your dish on a small chaffing candle so it stays hot while you eat. Everything was so delicious that I find my mouth watering while I'm writing this review. I'll have to go back again soon. read more
I loveee dry pot and sizzling pot king definitely hits when i'm craving spicy dry pot! we got a large stir-fry pot with beef tongue and pork belly, added lotus root, enoki, and of course, wide vermicelli--definitely a must! Got rice on the side too, and it was perfect for sharing. Really good spot for family-style dining. The interior is new and clean since they just renovated, which is nice. Service is okay, can be a little slow, but overall, the food makes it soo worth it! read more
This was my 3rd time trying dry pot, and I have to say I'm a huge fan. The concept is similar to hot pot but without the soup, and I really enjoyed the bold flavors and easy customizable options. We ordered a medium size, which was perfect for 3-4 people, but if you're coming with a bigger group, the large size is great for 5-6 people. Medium was more than enough to share for my girlfriend and I, we even took leftovers home. The portions are generous, and the mix of proteins and veggies makes it super sharable. For toppings, we went with braised pork belly, which was flavorful and tender. The yelp recommendation on the pork belly option did not disappoint. The base veggies comes with potatoes, broccoli, celery, and bean sprouts. I also highly recommend adding ramen or glass noodles for an extra layer of texture, eating with rice is good too. Rice cake, enoki, and greens was a great choice too. Spice wise, we got mild, which was just enough for a little numbing kick without being overpowering. If you love heat, going up to medium or spicy would be a great choice... maybe lol. Eating it with rice is a must to balance out the flavors! This is literally one of my favorite spots in San Diego but it doesn't get nearly as much recognition as it deserves! I always order the medium pot with thin sliced beef, and I love adding napa cabbage, instant noodle, wide vermicelli, and frozen tofu. The medium is sooo much food but I'd recommend the large for a party of 4+. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything is so clean and the atmosphere is very aesthetically pleasing and comfortable.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The service is also super fast and they make sure to explain the menu to you if you're confused. It's family-owned and the family is genuinely so sweet. The food is so delicious and the flavors are seriously unbeatable. If you like traditional Chinese flavors, definitely check this restaurant out. I really hope that this place gets a lot more customers and I'm definitely going to be coming back all the time. 10/10 recommend read more

This place is soooo good. Dry pot! Great tasting chinese/szechuan food. Probably one of my favorite spots in san diego. The food portions are good. Though it's kinda pricey, I can make many meals out of it. I tried many meats, but my favorite is probably just plain sliced beef. It's solid. Some of the other ones like beef tongue and fish were okay initially but I got sick of towards the end. The fish had too many bones and makes it hard to eat without stabbing yourself with a bone. Anyways, you order one large pot and share. Comes with base, and you can add as many ingredients as you may wish. It adds up and everything is upcharged, but you gotta do it. Parking is pretty good here compared to other spots on convoy. Service was pretty quick. They'll give you a discount if you pay cash. Benefits them and you I guess. Overall, would come back again. read more

I have been struggling finding a great dry pot place in Los Angeles. Shocking I know! Had to definitely try this place out while I was in San Diego. We ordered the medium lamb dry pot with garlic (mild) sauce. I like that their basic vegges/sides includes the essentials, you can definitely add more. More than enough for 2 people for sure. Great customer service, got seated right away. I did notice they did a great job at cleaning the table before sitting us down. read more
Sizzling Pot King is one of the most underrated restaurants in Convoy & SD! My brother brought me here a few months ago and now I can't stop coming. If you've never had dry pot before, I definitely recommend trying it because it's so good. I love how customizable Sizzling Pot King is so you can choose whatever you like. There are so many options to choose from which I appreciate. You choose your flavor, spice level, size, protein, and additional toppings/ingredients. All the pots come with celery, broccoli, potatoes, and bean sprouts by default. I always order the medium spicy flavor with beef, extra potatoes, sweet corn, tofu, silk noodle, and spam/luncheon meat with a side of rice. It's so delicious and filling. The flavor is great and all the toppings/ingredients are fresh and high-quality. The dry pots are well worth the price since the portions are huge. My boyfriend and I always get the medium size and have leftovers to bring home for another meal. I would say the medium size is perfect for 4 people. I've also tried the steamed and fried Chinese bread (mantou) with condensed milk. It's pretty standard for mantou with condensed milk but still so good and satisfying. A great little side and/or dessert. Service is great, no complaints. Once you order, the pot comes out pretty quickly- anywhere between 5-10 min depending on how busy they are. Lots of parking available in the lot which is great given that it's located in Convoy. I highly recommend Sizzling Pot King for anyone who wants to try dry pot or something new- they won't disappoint! read more

YUMMYYY !! My friends and I got the signature numbing dry pot with pork belly and intestines and it was super yummy :')) The pork belly was really tender and flavorful, the veggies were all soaked up in the sauces and really nice and crunchy, and the intestines were SO GOOD; there wasn't enough intestines in the pot :( I recommend eating it with rice ! We got it at mild spice and that was the perfect level imo (it wasn't spicy, just super numbing), but my friends were sweating LOLL Overall, 10/10 flavor but the serving size was so small ;-; For 3 people, a size large wasn't enough (L would be better for 2 people at most I would say) It wasn't busy at all on a Monday afternoon, and our food came out quickly. 10/10 recommend if you like Szechuan spice ! read more

This serves 4 people. Ordered beef tongue and pork ribs as our protein. The beef tongue was very tender and flavorful. We devoured an entire bowl of rice with it. Pork ribs weren't as tender and was kind of on the dry side. Would like to come back and try their other proteins as well. Price is very affordable for SD, it was less than $15 per person including tip. You definitely get the bang out of your buck! I have been to this plaza multiple times because of Chaba Thai and decided to try something different so we went to Sizzling Pot King. It is a pretty good place if you want to share with people because of the portion size and it is definitely a family style type of sharing. You can choose your post size, the types of meat you would want with it, the toppings and extras for rice or noodles. You can't really go wrong with either because the dish fits well with either because of the ingredients that's you choose. read more

It was my first time so I wouldn't know personally, but I trust them and their experience! Mashed eggplant and preserved egg was really good, would highly recommend. My fellow Yelp Elite friend and I decided to try out this restaurant since it was in the same plaza as Matcha Cafe Maiko. We thought it would be a good idea to have dinner before our dessert event, and with the horrible parking in Clairemont, we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone. We arrived early so there was plenty of parking. The restaurant selections in the plaza was rather limited, and we chose this restaurant because the Dan Dan Noodles looked promising on Yelp, and we both love spicy food. We arrived at the restaurant at 5:30pm, and were the only guests there. The restaurant was clean. They used disposable tableware only. Upon arriving, they brought 2 paper bowls, disposable chopsticks, 2 plastic cups, and a pitcher of water for us to self serve. The water was nicely filtered, so that was a plus. We noticed the menu had a lot of "sold out" stickers next to items. Sadly, the Dan Dan Noodles that we had our hearts set on was one of them! That was disappointing! We came to realize that "sold out" didn't exactly mean it was sold out. It actually meant they weren't selling it. For example, we decided on the Griddle Cooked Braised Pork Belly, but the small size was "sold out." There was only an option to get a medium for $26.99 and a large for $30-something. I forgot the exact amount for the large because we did not even consider getting a large for the 2 of us. The small was like $18.99. How is a griddle pot "sold out?" There weren't other diners at the time, so it's not like everyone in the restaurant ordered a small and they temporarily did not have enough small griddles. Also, it's not like you get to take it home with you. If they only wanted to sell the medium or large size, then they should consider updating their menu. About the food...For the Griddle Cooked Braised Pork Belly, we had some options in how we wanted it cooked. We selected mild spicy and garlic flavored. It came with cubes of pork belly and bean sprouts, broccoli, potatoes, and celery. They dish was primarily potatoes by the way. It was served in a silver griddle pot, already cooked, over some flames to keep it hot. The flavor profile was good, but it was overly greasy. Definitely too much potatoes and not enough pork belly. Not worth $26.99! We also settled for the Wuhan Hot Dry Noodle for $6.99. This dish has a peanut sauce that was flavorless. It was very bland and came with some chopped pickled string beans and carrots. We had to use sauce from the pork belly dish to bring some excitement to these lifeless noodles. We ordered a 3rd item, the Wonton in Spicy Sauce for $7.99. The wontons barely had any meat in them, maybe at most about 1/4 teaspoon of ground pork in each wonton and that was about it. It was soaked in spicy chili oil that didn't have much flavor to it. First time trying. It was pretty good overall. They gave us a recommendation as a first timer. We got thin sliced beef with added noodle. And spicy wonton on the side. It came out pretty quickly. Parking: pretty spacious - no parking stress Might try pork belly one in the future! read more

Did takeout on a Saturday around 12 and the wait for the food was only 15 min. We got a medium which ends up being enough food for at least four people! For each dish you choose the flavor, spice level, meat and add ins (each individually priced). For our medium, we got chicken wings for the meat, hot and sour for the flavor and spicy spice level. We chose taro root, lotus root and Napa cabbage for the add ins. Every dish comes standard with some add ins like broccoli, bean sprouts, potato and celery. The flavor was SO GOOD. Everything was very well seasoned without being overly salty. They could have been a little more generous with the add ins we chose to add but overall, everything was great. Side note: do not order from the restaurant website during covid. We tried to do that but when we got to the restaurant they said they were not doing the option (small size dish) that they offered online.
