As a soupy gal, I really thought I didn't like dry pot until Sizzling Pot King. Dry pot is essentially hot pot without the soup- a stir fry version if you will. At Sizzling Pot King, you're able to customize pot size, spice level, flavor, and all toppings. My favorite flavors are garlic if you can't handle too much spice and spicy if you're looking for a little kick. I'd recommend staying with mild to play it safe since things can heat up pretty quickly! As for toppings, my favorite protein is by far their braised pork belly. So so good! Veggies wise, all pots come with potatoes, broccoli, celery, and beansprouts. You then have the option to add more. Quality ingredients + fire sauce = a kick-ass meal. An amazing spot for group dinners with endless customizations and generous portions to share!

It's located in the same center as Yiko Yiko, Subway, Chaba, Matcha Cafe Maiko, Brothers 3, etc. Nissan dealership is across the street on one side and Cheetah's us diagonally across the intersection from it (for those who need a more recognized landmark). Been to eat and grab togo from here many times over the years. Food tastes better at the restaurant with the fire going under the serving platter, just ignore the decor. Service is good and they offer cash discount.

I really enjoyed the dry pot I ordered here! The restaurant was almost completely empty on a Sunday night, so the service was incredibly fast. I came here with four friends, and we all shared a large pot. The portion sizes were really generous. Our dry pot included beef tongue, quail eggs, napa cabbage, vermicelli, eggplant, bean sprouts, potato, broccoli, intestines, and more. The five of us barely finished the large pot, and the price was really affordable. We ordered the mild spice level, and it was already quite spicy. The dry pot paired so well with bowls of rice since it had quite a kick to it. I liked being able to customize the dry pot, and the ingredients and sauce were delicious. I will definitely be visiting again!

Finally got a pic to post lol. LOVE THIS PLACE. I wish I knew how to make this so I can make it at home too.

My table got the large pot to share and it was perfect for 4 people. It comes with two meats (we chose beef tongue and thinly sliced beef) and we paid more to add rice and napa cabbage. I wish it came with more veggies because it can get pretty pricey adding on more items. Service was alright; they did not really check up on us. This was my first time trying dry pot and it was soooo delicious and flavorful. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Definitely a fun and unique dining spot to check out with friends!![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

I didn't know what dry pot was until I discovered this place but boy am I glad I did. Every time I think about their dry pot I start salivating, it's that good!!! Everyone I've introduced to this place has loved it as well. If you are a fan of hot pot and the Chinese spice/flavor palette you should at least give this place a shot. Pre-Covid I used to sit in the restaurant and eat there, but recently I've just been ordering pick-up and doordash delivery. Both are amazing options. [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you sit-in, they keep the pots warm for you and the decorations on the wall are cool too (came here with a Chinese party and they loved all the historical references).[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The food also keeps and re-heats very well if you do take-out, and the pot also comes in a huge tray that is wonderful for larger parties. Food is just absolutely delicious and so savory. The spice is no joke but you can choose what kind you want (e.g. mala vs. garlic etc) and also how much spice (e.g. mild, medium). Medium can be pretty spicy but if you order no spice you're not doing the dry pot flavors justice, so I usually go with mild if there's anyone in the party with low spice tolerance. I like to eat their dry pots with white rice (which you have to order separately) because I feel like it balances out the flavors. Dry pots come with some veggies at baseline (broccoli, potato, celery) + a meat of choice but you can pay to add more sides! My personal favorites are the thinly sliced beef, enokhi mushrooms, and ramen/glass noodles. Wonton in spicy sauce is AMAZING and 100% worth ordering (and this is coming from someone who eats a lot of frozen dumplings on the regular). The sauce is just incredible. Their mashed eggplant and green pepper with preserved egg is also so good and flavorful!!! Prices are reasonable and parking in the plaza is pretty easy!

I never had Sizzling Pot before but I love the style of choosing the proteins and toppings. I wonder why not too many know about this place? The food is so good. I had mild numbing spicy and it was spicy. The numbing of my tongue and lips were legit. It felt good after a cool sip of water Parking is ample and easy. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I went at 7pm Saturday and the restaurant wasn't too crowded, yay.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]They have some communism drawings that I found hilarious[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]

Dry pot time! Have been meaning to try this place for a while. Had the opportunity to go when a friend visiting from Seattle was also having cravings. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The restaurant wasn't too crowded when we entered at 6pm but was almost completely full as we exited around 7:30.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] There's a healthy sized parking lot. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The interior has a cool wallpaper and vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was attentive and friendly from the waitress. The male server was more straightforward yet efficient. We opted for a combo dry pot - which includes two proteins. Our choices were shrimp (shell on with heads) and braided pork belly. You also get your choice of flavoring and spice level. We did numbing spice at a medium level. Finally, choose additional toppings to mix-in. The portion was huge! Super flavorful and delicious. This meal really hit the spot.

It's OVER for broth hot pot omg. Sizzling Pot King is a guaranteed flavorful and filling meal, no matter what you order. 3 of us shared the medium vegetable hot pot with lotus root, shiitake mushrooms, wood ear mushrooms, eggplant, silk noodles, tofu skin, and taro. Delicious delicious delicious, but my favorite part was the potato (that already is a default inclusion) and the tofu skin. Do not miss out on those! The decor is also an ~experience~

Super authentic and delicious Chinese dry hotpot place. Both my husband and I love this place beginning from 5 years old. We had two different flavors of small portion dry pots this time. I had mild spicy and sour flavor, which I love a lot, it's the right level for me. My husband had super spicy SiChuan Mala flavor, which is very on heat, he enjoyed! For the main ingredients we chose, I highly recommend the beef tongue and tendon, they are big pieces and tastes awesome. My husband's pot has pork belly in it, it is very yummy, I highly recommend this if you are not that adventurous. But if you are, you can try frog, it's really good! I also love the thousand years eggs with eggplants, it's very true authentic taste and delicious! We loved the brown sugar fried mochi, and icy jelly desserts as well. Both are perfect to finish a yummy and spicy meal.

Great flavor and good portion size. Would definitely come back ! Large griddle was enough for three people and we had left overs. Large griddle includes two protein, we got braised pork belly and thin sliced beef. Added an additional protein - beef short ribs - and veggie - enoki mushrooms, Napa cabbage, and tripe. Side of rice. I wouldn't get the beef short ribs again, the meat was too chewy. The braised pork belly was delicious! Total cost was about $33/person.

Absolutely delicious! This is a Sichuan dry pot - which means the food is cooked in oil, not broth. It was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend getting baby corn and choosing 2 meats to liven up your experience!

Sizzling Pot King is a chain. Not impressed with the food. The menu is like half scratched off like it's "sold out". Prices are increased using white label stickers. They should just reprint a whole new menu or restock inventory. They gave disposable bowls and utensils. Except for the water cup and pitcher. We wanted to order certain items but it got crossed off so we got their signature dry pot. We wanted small but it got crossed off. How? Can't you make smaller portions? Medium serves 2-3 so we got medium. 1) pick the size, medium ($26.99) or large ($36.99); 2) choose your flavor, we got garlic; 3) choose your spice level, we got mild; 4) choose your pot, we got braised pork belly. It automatically comes with celery, potatoes, cauliflower and bean sprouts. Adding more sides is additional. The pot comes cooked and sizzling hot that is kept warm with a chafing dish underneath. We also ordered Wuhan hot dry noodles ($6.99) and wonton in spicy sauce ($7.99) which is basically in chili oil. It wasn't spicy and the hot dry noodles were bland in a diluted peanut sauce. Glad we didn't get rice and used the noodles to eat with the pork belly. The mild spice was perfect because it had a kick. Overall, the food here lacks quality, flavor and selection. 2.5 stars but bumped to 3 for the self serving water pitcher. Plus they allowed us to split checks with two credit cards.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has been on my Yelp Want To Go list ever since my brother and SIL told me…read morethat they really enjoyed a Chinese restaurant in Las Vegas and were told that a similar restaurant existed in San Diego. After their experience in Vegas, they tried Shan Xi themselves and glowingly talked about the delish food there. Today, 3/4s of my fam ate here and we definitely concurred with my brother and SIL's favorable assessment. 4.5 stars because their grub was amazing, but it could be more customer friendly where one of the staff checks to see if we need help ordering instead of ordering from the QR code menu. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen is located in the ultra competitive Convoy Asian District specifically on Convoy Street within the Convoy Village shopping center. The restaurant is next to our fave Asian drink place called Yun Tea, it's next to Olleh KBBQ, next door to Szechuan Chef, and a short walk to BB.Q Chicken. This is a popular strip mall, so it could be challenging for you to find parking. Parking is free for 90 minutes, but you'll have to pay after that time ends. Shan Xi is nice inside with gray brick on their walls, decorative lighting surrounded by rattan, Chinese dolls on a shelf, Chinese inspired figurine art on another wall, and a beautiful curio/screen containing Chinese knick knacks. Seating consists of tables/chairs and a long leather bench. Our servers were friendly, but to me having to order from a QR code is impersonal. I'd rather talk to a person, so that I can ask what they recommend. Plus, if diners aren't familiar with this type of cuisine, I'm sure they would have a bunch of questions. From Shan Xi Magic Kitchen's website, "Bringing the bold flavors of Northwest China to San Diego, Shan'xi Magic Kitchen serves authentic regional specialties. Our restaurants specialize in hand-pulled noodles, savory bread-based dishes, and traditional Chinese comfort food prepared with time-honored techniques." After being told that Shan Xi was similar to their positive dining experience at a different Chinese restaurant in Vegas, my brother and SIL tried Shan Xi and they were impressed by what they ate here and told us that we needed to eat here ourselves. Since my wife and I were off midweek, we invited our son to join us for lunch. We ordered the following dishes and feel free to mimick what we ordered: spicy cumin lamb burger, hand pulled noodle with cumin beef, beef magic fried rice, dry fried green beans, and a side of white rice. My brother and SIL love the lamb burger as a appetizer and we really thought it was tasty too. If you're not a spicy fan, this might not be for you, but the lamb was tender. The pita bread needed to be softer. Their hand pulled noodle with cumin beef was stellar, chewy, and delectable. Loved their beef magic fried rice and it ate really well by itself. The fried green beans were addicting, garlicky, and just yummy. I'm a fan Shan Ci and can't wait to try their other entrees. My brother and SIL were spot on with their positive reviews about Shan Xi Magic Kitchen. It was a blessing to have a spontaneous meet up with 3/4s of my fam and grub on some memorable Chinese food.

Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has Good Potential, But Missing Some of the "Magic". 徒有其表,未得其神…read more My wife and I came here tonight for a date night, and overall, I'd say Shan Xi Magic Kitchen has a lot of potential, but the food still feels like it is missing some of the finer touches that would make it truly memorable. First, some positives: the staff were very courteous, attentive, and eager to help. The restaurant was completely full when we arrived, and there was a party of 12 ahead of us, but the staff communicated the seating situation clearly. Despite the restaurant being packed, my wife and I were seated right away, which I appreciated. We ordered: * Two bowls of cumin lamb hand-pulled noodles * Stir-fried string beans * Shrimp fried rice The hand-pulled noodles had a good chew and satisfying texture, which is important. The cumin and spice were also prominent. However, my bowl had noticeably more grease sitting at the bottom than my wife's, and the flavor didn't really build as I ate. After the initial cumin and spice, it eventually became mostly just spicy rather than developing more layers of flavor. The shrimp fried rice was probably where I noticed the biggest difference. It seemed to use relatively fresh rice rather than day-old rice, which isn't inherently bad, but the grains didn't have that ideal 「粒粒分明」 texture you normally look for in good fried rice. The rice was more starchy and tended to clump together, and the overall flavor wasn't particularly 鮮 or savory. The stir-fried string beans were enjoyable, but I felt they were missing that strong 鍋氣 you get from proper high-heat wok cooking. They were cooked, but they didn't have that slightly charred, smoky, caramelized quality that makes stir-fried vegetables really stand out. One interesting observation: the clientele tonight was predominantly younger and English-speaking. That's obviously not a measure of food quality, but when I'm looking for particularly authentic Chinese food, I often notice that the restaurants packed with mainland Chinese, Taiwanese, or other Asian diners tend to have a certain extra level of authenticity behind the food. Shan Xi Magic Kitchen definitely looks and feels like an authentic Chinese restaurant, but some of the food tonight left me feeling 「形似神不似」or it has the appearance, but not quite the soul. And that's ultimately how I felt about this visit. Compared with what I remember from visiting over a year ago, I think the restaurant has a high ceiling, but it consistently misses a few of the right notes. The food isn't bad in fact, there are several things here that I genuinely enjoyed but it doesn't quite reach the level where I finish a dish thinking, "Wow, I need to come back specifically for this." They may have around 2,000 reviews, and I can understand why people enjoy the restaurant. But having had quite a bit of Chinese food in LA, I've personally had better versions of these dishes there. Overall: good service, good atmosphere, solid potential, and enjoyable food but the execution needs a little more refinement before it becomes truly memorable.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Tasty Malatang Chinese Cuisine was…read moredisappointing because of the customer service. According to the restaurant's posted hours, they close at 10:00 PM. My family and I arrived around 9:15 PM, expecting that we still had enough time to order dinner. As soon as we walked in, the server immediately told us they were already closed. My mother politely pointed out that the posted closing time was 10:00 PM and simply asked if the kitchen happened to close earlier than the dining room. Instead of explaining the situation professionally, the server responded in a very rude tone: "Well, you guys can eat and order, but at 10:00 PM you need to be gone and out the door." Another employee then stepped in to back him up, making the interaction feel even more uncomfortable. I completely understand how the restaurant business works. I've been around the industry long enough to know that kitchens often stop taking orders before closing or that staff are trying to finish cleaning at the end of the night. If they had simply said, "We're sorry, but our kitchen is already closed," or even, "We can still serve you, but we're finishing up for the night," we would have completely understood. There was no reason to speak to us disrespectfully. What made this experience frustrating is that we never came in with an attitude or demanded special treatment. We were polite from the moment we walked through the door. We simply asked a reasonable question based on the restaurant's posted business hours, and instead of receiving a courteous explanation, we were met with unnecessary hostility. Customer service is just as important as the food. A welcoming attitude can make guests want to return, while a rude interaction can overshadow everything else. Unfortunately, this experience left such a negative impression that I won't be returning. I also would not feel comfortable bringing my family or recommending this restaurant to friends because everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect. I hope management takes this review as constructive feedback and reminds their staff that even when it's close to closing time, a little kindness and professionalism go a long way.

But the wait was worth it. We enjoyed our dinner here. For the 4 of us I ordered a lot 'coz when I was reading the Menu they all look so good :;) Here is what I ordered for the 4 of us: *EGGROLLS *CUCUMBER SALAD *DUMPLINGS *CRISPY TOFU *MAMI NOODLES *FRIED RICE *GENERAL TSO'S CHICKEN *BEEF & BROCCOLI *SALT & PEPPER SHRIMP *HONEY WALNUT SHRIMP *CHAR SIU RIBS *DAN DAN NOODLES *GOLDEN FRIED CUSTARD *2 MOCHI The plates and serving size look small, but it's actually a good portion in person and very filling. There's so much food for me to discuss all of them, so I'm just gonna tell you guys which one I liked the most. The one that I will get for sure on my next visit is the CRISPY TOFU, SALT & PEPPER SHRIMP, DUMPLINGS, MAMI NOODLES, HONEY WALNUT SHRIMP , DAN DAN NOODLES and TSO 'S GENERAL CHICKEN. These are very Tasty and delicious. The one I'm probably not gonna get next time are the Cucumber salad, Eggroll, and the Char siu ribs. The cucumber salad taste meh, it didn't have that good, strong taste of condiments I was looking for. The eggroll wasn't that good. The Char siu ribs was good, but when night time came and the lights got dimmed I couldn't tell the difference between the meat, garlic, ginger, etc., 'coz the color of them all together are all the same and it's hard for me to pick which one is the meat ;) For the dessert the Golden fried custard and Mochi , not a fan of them . For drinks we just got water coz they dont serve Cocktail . But all in all I would come back here again 'coz the service is great and there's lots of food I still wanna try here. Parking is kinda always hard in this area.

Despite the crowd, the staff were absolutely amazing. They handled our order patiently and although there were so many people, it only took around 20 minutes for the dishes to arrive. It was very noisy in here, but that was my only complaint. House special chicken, duck, house special soy duck: (9/10) so gooooooood! The skin+meat were really good and it was so saucy and flavorful. Each meat had their own unique taste. Green beans: (11/10) absolute perfection. The green beans had the perfect crunch and were sautéed very well. PLEASE GET THIS!!!!!! House special beef: (10/10) This has got to be the best beef dish I've ever had. So tender and juicy. It's also very succulent and the sugar snap peas were a great addition! Almost melted in my mouth! Clam: (8/10) my mom's favorite dish there! Not too salty or pungent, savory, basily taste, light, and delicious! Fried tofu: (9/10) I really liked the tofu. The batter was really good and the sauce made the dish even better! Snow pea leaves sautéed in garlic: (10/10) VERY GOOD! Great vegetable choice! Fresh and saucy. Shrimp and scrambled eggs: (8/10) eggs were light and fluffy. I thought the shrimp was pretty decent but the eggs made it even better! Overall, I thought this Chinese restaurant stood out from the rest. It was a game changer and I will for sure be coming back whenever I'm in the area!

TL;DR It's really good. Go here…read more -------------- I came here after a friend recommended it when I told them I was coming down to San Diego for a day trip during my spring break from school in Orange County. I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Really glad I came here and the next time I have a chance to come back down to SD I definitely will come back here and that's not negotiable for me

It was empty coming in around 5:30pm on a Friday, but it soon filled to capacity in the next hour. So coming into it, we thought we would choose between Menu A and Menu B. Afterwards, we thought it was AYCE on the menu of your choice + the side buffet where there are limited selections of sides and refrigerated drinks. We ordered orange chicken, Chinese style fish and something else. Again, this was on the thought that we could order more than one item on our selected menu. So imagine our surprise when the bill was nearly $100 for two people? It was a misunderstanding. However, the initial staff gentlemen was completely rude about it and ignored us as we sought to understand. Finally, a second female server came and heard our concerns regarding the false advertisement and unclear messaging. She was able to provide us the price we thought this was for based on Menu selection. All in all - I don't recommend the AYCE option. I think it would be important to make a distinction that AYCE clearly on the menu and at the front - AYCE means each individual selects ONE entree (which is a one small portion) and the AYCE component of the deal is ONLY for the side buffet.

The menu said the family meals were meant for parties of 8, but let me tell you. We ate until we were hurting and there was still a ton of leftovers. Those meals can easily serve a dozen people in my opinion which makes them even more of a great deal. If you've got a large party, this is a fantastic option to make sure everyone eats their fill. With that said, all the food was delicious. Hot and fresh from the kitchen, each dish with its own unique flavor and textures. We ran the gamut of flavors over our meal and it's hard to really point to one singular dish that was my favorite. After having almost 10 different dishes, I can confidently say that they will have something you will really enjoy. The restaurant itself is a bit no frills. But that's fine. They're putting their time in to food, not ambiance and I am totally down with that. Service is great. We were in a back corner, but we never felt ignored nor overly watched over. We were able to sit down and enjoy our meal at our own speed. My only 'gripe' with the restaurant is that the restroom is actually outside and shared with the other businesses in the complex. And that bathroom isn't the best maintained. I'm assuming that's up to the property management and not the restaurant (or other businesses) so I'm not dinging my review, but just keep that in mind. Might be best to try & hold it if you can. Ultimately, Golden Chopsticks really knocked it out of the park and caught me so off guard. I am so glad we came here on a bit of a whim. It was fantastic and I can't wait to go back.
