A few of our friends invited us to this little hidden gem and I am so glad we said yes. This restaurant is a small spot in Chula Vista with bold flavors. We ordered the fried rice, beef and broccoli, egg drop soup, orange chicken, and the house noodles. I have to say, every dish was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. The stand out was the orange chicken. I have to admit that orange chicken isn't even usually my favorite type of dish. But man the crispy immediate bite met with the bursting flavors that weren't too overwhelming was excellent. The noodles were equally as delicious. The entire meal was so good that I didn't feel overly stuffed as I typically do when I eat this type of cuisine. The portions are pretty generous for the price that you pay. I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Tasty Malatang Chinese Cuisine was disappointing because of the customer service. According to the restaurant's posted hours, they close at 10:00 PM. My family and I arrived around 9:15 PM, expecting that we still had enough time to order dinner. As soon as we walked in, the server immediately told us they were already closed. My mother politely pointed out that the posted closing time was 10:00 PM and simply asked if the kitchen happened to close earlier than the dining room. Instead of explaining the situation professionally, the server responded in a very rude tone: "Well, you guys can eat and order, but at 10:00 PM you need to be gone and out the door." Another employee then stepped in to back him up, making the interaction feel even more uncomfortable. I completely understand how the restaurant business works. I've been around the industry long enough to know that kitchens often stop taking orders before closing or that staff are trying to finish cleaning at the end of the night. If they had simply said, "We're sorry, but our kitchen is already closed," or even, "We can still serve you, but we're finishing up for the night," we would have completely understood. There was no reason to speak to us disrespectfully. What made this experience frustrating is that we never came in with an attitude or demanded special treatment. We were polite from the moment we walked through the door. We simply asked a reasonable question based on the restaurant's posted business hours, and instead of receiving a courteous explanation, we were met with unnecessary hostility. Customer service is just as important as the food. A welcoming attitude can make guests want to return, while a rude interaction can overshadow everything else. Unfortunately, this experience left such a negative impression that I won't be returning. I also would not feel comfortable bringing my family or recommending this restaurant to friends because everyone deserves to be treated with basic respect. I hope management takes this review as constructive feedback and reminds their staff that even when it's close to closing time, a little kindness and professionalism go a long way. read more

Came in here with a friend for dinner. They had good reviews, so we figured we'd try it out. Generously sized portions. The beef noodles were greasy but in a good way. The strawberry boba tea was good. Potstickers took longer than out food. Like we had darn well almost finished the noodles by the time they came out. The service was okay. They brought one menu to the table, so we had to ask for a second one. And the servers were all kind of standing around and looking at our table. Ordered thru DoorDash for the first time with no big expectations. We were looking for good assassin chicken and looking at reviews on Yelp had seen this may be a good option. The food arrived super hot and fresh. The flavor on the chicken was just right. I was pleasantly surprised at the shrimp fried rice flavor. Sometimes the flavor can come across bars, however this rice had the perfect fried taste as well as shrimp flavor. I do wish there were more shrimp and rice. This is the new Golden House for my family. We prefer their salt & pepper wings, their honey walnut shrimp and lo mein over all the spots in Otay. The dining are is small so we generally use them for takeout only. The only dishesI've tried and didn't love here were the egg foo yung (meat is added to sauce not the egg part), war wonton soup was not especially flavorful and moo goo gai pan would have been a 10 out of 10 if not for the canned mushrooms. We have never been here before and decided to give it a try. My wife has been to several Asian countries, including China, so she's a little picky when it comes to trying Chinese cuisine. The place is small, and could fill up quick during the rush, we came 10 minutes before the lunch special ends and it was wide open seating. I tried the beef and broccoli and it was really tasty. My wife also said her dish, which she would always get during her time in China, tasted exactly like being in China. That's the first I have heard her say this while eating at a Chinese place so far. For me, my dish came with egg drop soup (tasty), steamed rice (perfectly sticky and fluffy, not hard), and the beef/broccoli which came with carrots and it was cooked perfectly. The beef wasn't chewy, it was tender and melted in your mouth, the way it is supposed to be. All in all, the food was delicious. We highly recommend giving this a try. read more

Summary: Delicious, authentic chinese food I've been looking for good chinese food since I moved to San Diego from the Bay Area more than 15 years ago (circa 2008). I always assumed there was little to none besides Minh Ky (porridge & pan fried shrimp), Tim Ky (wonton egg noodle) & Diamond Palace (Dim Sum) until I went to Tasty Mandarin and ate some of the most delicious food ever. Their mongolian beef and egg drop soup was wonderful. I also plan to get their egg foo young as well as beef chow fun now that I know how good the food is. I wish I went here sooner but I wanted to try their lunch special first before cashing in on their non-special dishes. Service was quick.
