Found this little hidden gem by Kaiser-Zion area. My daughter wanted something different from hospital food. Service is awesome and very welcoming. We ordered bao buns, dumplings, shumai, potstickers. Everything was delicious, the place is located in a small shopping center, very clean. Definitely worth trying when you're having cravings for dumplings and noodles. We had plenty of left overs since servings portion were great.
Went in for takeout. The dumplings were really good. The filling was reasonable and tasty, I got the steemed filling. The magnolian beef was tasty, but there were too many onions for me personally, and not enough berf. I also got a side of rice and that was extra. In total I spent around $30 with top, and no drinks. Service was great, plenty of parking, plenty of seating inside.
This was my first time visiting with my best friend. Since we were both craving dumplings, we decided to give this place a try. When we arrived, we were warmly greeted and invited to sit at any available table. Ordering was simple through a QR code at the table. We ordered the Orange Flavored Chicken, Cucumber Salad, Xiao Long Bao (8), and Crab Meat & Pork Xiao Long Bao (8). I also ordered the Mongolian Beef to go. The Orange Flavored Chicken was crispy and flavorful without being overly sweet, making it a great way to start the meal. The Cucumber Salad was light, refreshing, and finished with a pleasant aromatic flavor. For the main dishes, the Xiao Long Bao had a rich, savory broth that paired perfectly with vinegar. The Crab Meat & Pork Xiao Long Bao was especially satisfying and filling but a little dry. The Mongolian Beef is spicy and savory. It goes well with rice. Although the restaurant is small, it feels comfortable and welcoming. During our visit, the atmosphere was quiet and relaxing, which made for an enjoyable dining experience. Overall, we had a great first visit and would happily return.
Upon walking in, you get seated at a table with a QR code tucked in the corner of the table and no paper menus. I could imagine the QR codes being a problem for an older audience, especially since it's in the corner of the table and not very noticeable. The food came out in around 20 minutes. Wontons: This was by far the best dish I had at the restaurant. The spicy sauce had the perfect kick and the dumpling wrappers were thin and soft. The pork was juicy and paired well with the spicy sauce. Pork and Crab Dumplings: These dumplings were unfortunately very mediocre. Some dumplings were gushing with soup while another tin of dumplings were practically dry and lukewarm. The dumpling wrappers were very thick and made up a large amount of the dumpling which was very disappointing. Potstickers: These potstickers were absolutely amazing. The bottom of every single potsticker was crackling and crispy and each potstickers was gushing with soup with each bite. Honey Walnut Shrimp: This was one of the worser dishes I had. The shrimp had a very thick batter which made up 90% of the shrimp and the honey walnut sauce was very hard to taste due to the thickness of the batter and the inconsistency of the spread of sauce. I wasn't super impressed with this restaurant due to the mediocrity of their soup dumplings, however, their other dumpling dishes made up for the experience.
First time here, and it definitely won't be my last! We stumbled upon this place on a whim, and I'm so glad we did. It wasn't busy when we visited, the restaurant was clean, and the staff was incredibly friendly. They checked on us throughout the meal and made us feel very welcomed. We ordered quite a few dishes, but the standouts were the shu mai and fried rice. Both were packed with flavor and ended up being our favorites of the night. The prices were very reasonable, the portions were generous, and overall the value was excellent. Would definitely come back and try more of the menu!

It neede rice which is an up charge apparently because wasn't provided. Next was the sesame chicken and chow mien which were 2 stars at best. One was feast and the other overcooked. Our first time and what a pleasant surprise. Many times, you find a place named a specific food and then you are disappointed that they can't even do that right. This is NOT that place If you want dumplings, which is why we came, you got it and they do it well. Most of the dumplings, you choose steamed or pan fried. Here's what we had: XLB, steamed vegetable dumpling, pork and cabbage for pan fried, spicy chicken, cucumber salad, pork bun. And chicken noodle. The dumplings were handmade and the filling so good. Our favorite was the vegetable dumpling, the amount of flavor was so good. Everything we ate was good. Spicy chicken was definitely back of your throat true Szechuan spice. The cucumber was probably made fresh, so the sauce flavor wasn't as infused but overall still really good and smashed. The server was super nice and the food came out fast. It's clean and basic, but I'm here for the food. We will be back
My partner had been wanting to try this spot, so I tagged along with her. After sitting down, we ordered directly through their website, which sends everything straight to the kitchen. We started with a classic dumplings/dim sum combo along with the cucumber salad. The salad was mid at best and didn't really stand out. We followed that up with chow mein, which was solid. Then the xiao long bao and shu mai arrived, and those were definitely highlights, flavorful and well done. The BBQ pork buns were decent and soft, but there was noticeably more bun than filling. The chicken wings had a nice crunch to them, though I've had better elsewhere. Overall, it's a decent spot. Compared to other places, it'll be tough to add this one into the regular rotation, but it's definitely worth trying at least once.
WOW, everything was honestly so good. I tried the soup dumplings and the BBQ pork bao, and both were absolutely delicious. The soup dumplings were juicy, flavorful, and perfectly cooked, and the bao was soft, warm, and packed with flavor. Definitely coming back and highly recommend if you're craving good dumplings in San Diego!
Hi Dumplings does dumplings quite well, but not other Chinese dishes. The tables accommodated 4-5 people, and there was an assigned QR code for each group. We weren't given any paper menus and were told to place our orders directly from the QR code. While the system was efficient, it wasn't as convenient for everyone at the table. Payment was done only at the front cashier. The dumplings were definitely made to order, and they took quite some time to come out. However, the one fried dish we ordered came out almost immediately. Each table had soy sauce, vinegar, and chili oil. We had ordered soup dumplings and I wish we were also given spoons. *Honey Walnut Shrimp: came on a bed of steamed broccoli. The shrimp were humongous, and the batter was just as large. The shrimp had good bounciness, but the batter was so thick it was difficult to taste the sauce. The sauce also wasn't evenly distributed, so some bites were just fried shrimp. I wouldn't get this again as the shrimp was overwhelmed by the batter and the walnuts were sparse. *Pork And Cabbage Dumplings: we got them fried for $1 more. These had juicy filling and each dumpling had a stellar crust. The wrapper could have been a tad thinner, but these were still filling and flavorful. *Xiao Long Bao: we ordered two kinds, regular pork and crab. The pork was superior in both flavor and soup. The crab dumplings were unfortunately drier, and there wasn't much seafood flavor. However, I was satisfied with the thickness of the dumpling skin. *Szcheuan Spicy Wontons: these had a more subtle numbing spice than other renditions, with more oil. The skin was the thinnest of all the dishes, and my entire party complimented it. The pork filling was dense and chewy. Overall, the dumplings were decent and affordable. The cost of the dumplings easily fed my entire party, and especially in comparison to the rising costs of Chinese dishes, it was refreshing to see hefty portions and solid flavors. I would opt for takeout next time, as the dine-in experience is minimalistic.
My friend and I shared the cucumber salad, scallion pancakes, xiao long bao, and spicy wontons from here back in May of 2024. I think everything tasted okay, but nothing was outstanding or memorable. The cucumber salad only had garlic and the xiao long bao didn't have enough soup in it. The space was clean and service was a little slow too. We waited 5 minutes between each dish, so the last dish took 20 minutes to make. Hopefully they have improved since then, since this spot has a lot of potential.
Pretty much everything I have tried is really good. The wonton soup is my wife's favorite. Pleasant staff and nice place to sit down and eat.
Start by saying, front staff is very nice. Restaurant has sit down seating and parking lot has plenty of parking. Food wise, it was ok. The sodium flavor was through the roof on the rice and the same for oil flavor and oil texture on the chow mein. Neither in a good way. The chow mein really didn't pack much of any flavor. Orange chicken pieces were favorable size but texture was a bit on the chewy side. Portion for the rice was good but definitely fell way short on the chow mein. I literally am shook I only got what I got for $13. Especially considering what I used to get when this place was Mr. Spicy. Didn't try dumplings here but maybe I will come back to do so since that is what the name is now.

The absolute tastiest vegan dumplings I have ever had the pleasure of eating. That's all I got from there the last time I was at Kaiser Zion looking for vegan food (which is pretty much non existent in that area). I'm about to go back today so I thought I would leave a review and try the veggie spring rolls while I'm there. I didn't realize they had more vegan menu items until I checked yelps ai. Honestly, I only ordered the dumplings again because I want to eat them all fresh. One day I'll try something else I promise. read more
The spam chow mein was good. Was a little greasy but delicious and flavored very well. I would have liked a little more vegetables in it but thats being picky. The spicy wontons were also really good and perfectly seasoned. A little kick but nothing too crazy. The Xian long bao was probably one of the best I've had in San Diego. Very good and the soup inside simply flavorful and delicious. The have the chili oil, vinegar, and soy sauce on the table which I love. I always add more of the chili oil to the dishes as I do like spicy. You scan the code on the table and order through that which is the only downside I have about this place. I know places are starting to do that more but I like menus and ordering from a person VS selecting items using your phone. I could do that and just do pick up if I wanted to order online. I popped in at lunch time today and made it in just before it got busy. Each table has a QR code to browse the menu and place your order and there is soy sauce, black vinegar and chili crisp ready for your use. So far I've tried: Pork cabbage dumplings (steamed) - Very tasty , ginger forward and honestly one order is enough to fill up an adult. I'd definitely like to order them fried as well. Egg chow mein - perfect level of saltiness and the egg flavor was strong and pleasant. Spicy crispy chicken - a perfect medium spicy that doesn't overwhelm but isn't mild. The chicken was crispy and not oily. Very enjoyable. Scallion pancakes - not my favorite but very good and again, importantly, perfectly salted. Let me start by saying "WOW!". Not only was everything delicious it was prepared fairly quickly. By far some of the best Beef Broccoli, I've ever had. The dumplings were amazing. You have to try the Xiao Long Boa and the Szechuan Dumplings! Servings were huge. Don't get me started on the chili oil. read more

you're in the mood for dumplings, this spot is a must. The dumplings are always fresh, flavorful, and cooked perfectly every bite hits. The menu has a great variety, and everything comes out hot and quick. The staff is friendly and the vibe is chill, making it an easy go-to whether you're dining in or grabbing food to go. Definitely one of the best dumpling spots on Mission Gorge highly recommend! read more

My friends & I tried their food out for the first time. Service was just ok, it would have been nice to have been offered water after my glass was empty...or to have been checked on to see if we needed anything. We ordered several entrees pictured... it was all just ok. Tables were clean, plenty of parking. Scan to order- for some reason all three of us found it confusing on how to order the food. If I come back, I'd order the orange chicken. read more

Here on a Friday night and no wait. It's a holiday weekend so maybe people are out of town. We tried to scan at the table to order but when I hit submit, it disappeared. They then came to the table and took the order. Parking lot isn't very big so that could be a challenge. The noodle soups are big bowls! Share so you can try other things. Spicy beef noodle soup is spicy. The won ton noodle and the beef noodle are good for kids. The steamed and the fried dumplings are good. You can choose how you want them prepared. The green beans are slightly spicy for me, but I can't handle much heat. Everything was good. We would come back. read more

Really good dumplings - Spicy wontons were really spicy (I love spicy)! Pork and shrimp wontons were yummy as well. I enjoyed the shrimp fried rice, but my husband thought the rice was too oily. The spicy crispy chicken had great flavor but way too salty. Overall, go for the dumplings. read more

This place is very unassuming but they have fast service and the soup dumplings are delicious!! We came here on a Friday night and you can tell they are busy with take outs but not too many dine in. You can order through the QR code so you don't have to wait for them to come by. My favorite were the green beans, the original Xiao long bao (soup dumplings), and the custard bao for dessert! We got the spicy wonton and the crab xiao long bao and I was thought the crab was a bit too fishy for my taste. The price is very reasonable! If you're looking for for a good xiao long bao place that is fast and casual, come here! read more

This is my new favorite dumpling place! We got 3 dishes and all were great - in quality and price. I do wish they had more variety of dumpling fillings though! You order from the QR code at your table and pay at the cashier after. The dumplings are made to order so there's a little wait for them, but it's worth it. I'm excited to come back and try their pan fried version of the dumplings and other menu items. read more
Once upon a time, on any given day, one could visit Convoy street for great Asian foods and easily find parking and table with no wait. Impossible today! So I've been seeking out Non-Convoy Asian restaurants... Hi Dumplings has a Cute AF logo! And the dumplings are quite good! The soup dumplings are great! Feels very homemade, with nice chewy dough and lovely hot soup inside. Not quite as good as Din Tai Fung, but cheaper. Din Tai Fung runs $1.75/dumpling, versus $1.38/dumpling at Hi Dumpling. The vegetarian dumplings pan fried were also quite tasty, I'll have to try the meat versions next time! Minus one star though...the chow mein is pretty average, and too many bean sprouts. You're here for food, not the clean but simple and boring ambiance...though you can legit see the aunties and uncles cooking your food fresh. read more
First time I dined in. This time I got to go. They packaged very nicely! I got steamed pork buns 5/5. Tasty, buns so soft and moist! Meat was just the right amount of sweetness. Orange chicken 4/5. Tasty and cute with the orange slices. Tangy but meat to outer skin ratio was very small. Luckily I don't like big chunks of meat but for most this would be very small pieces of chicken. The rest was my boyfriends so I can't rate lol. I had one bite of the spicy crispy chicken but I was not a fan because of the Szechuan chilis! Those make your tongue numb so just not my style. I was too full to try his other dishes but overall a good spot for Chinese food. Good parking. read more
