Yellowtail carpaccio
Jasmine C.

I had seen this place when they opened since I live in the neighborhood but finally got to try it and the service was good. They brought out our drinks right away once we ordered and the food came out at a nice pace. I am always worried with going to a new sushi spot and happy to say the fish was fresh. We really enjoyed the yellowtail carpaccio as well as the variety of nigiri. The roll was also enjoyable and the Kama. I would definitely like to come back when I have the craving.

SALMON MAKI ROLL

Ordered a salmon maki and shrimp tempura hand roll for lunch one day. I live around the corner and have been wanting to give them a chance for a while. Didn't get a chance to chat with anyone or stay long but it seemed pretty chill and relaxing. No loud music blaring like some other sushi places. Unfortunately not the best rolls on my salmon maki and the shrimp tempura looks like mostly krab. Price was banging and the salmon didn't taste off so I'll definitely come back when I'm craving food since I live walking distance.

Wow! Came here on a whim, really positive experience. Garlic edamame was so fresh and flavorful, the cooked it on the spot and you could smell it! So delicious. I had the mango dragon cucumber wrapped- the sweet mango sauce was delicious, the whole roll was delicious My husband had the spicy amigo roll and he loved it. He say the ingredients were tremendous and fresh. He truly enjoyed it. My daughter had the shrimp crunch, she say it was flavorful and eel sauce and the crunch tied it together. Overall delicious. Service was friendly, restaurant is brand knew and clean. Definitely recommend!!

This is not an authentic sushi restaurant. It seems as those they just learned to make sushi and decided to open a restaurant.. the vibe isnt right and neither is the sushi. Very mushy and the ratios were off on what was put inside. I asked if there was fired shrimp in my roll and was told no all for me to bite into fried shrimp. Unacceptable. Wasn't offered help, discount or any care.

Positive experience each time. We live in the neighborhood and love that Dragon Sushi opens semi-late, and is rarely crowded, especially for a sushi restaurant. Like others have been saying, it is inexpensive, and does the job. Service is friendly and attentive. I highly recommend: - kama (fish collar, cooked) usually $18-22+ at other Japanese restaurants, here it's $12, and the portion is great. Fish is tender and flaky. - half seaweed half cucumber salad (seasoned to perfection, a light and refreshing appetizer). - baked mussels (dressed with tobiko, baked with sriracha mayo). - Rolls: Channel roll, Lemon Drop, Wilson Ave roll. They seem to lean heavily towards a crunchy roll base (shrimp tempura and krab on the inside) then the toppings are where the rolls get individualized. - Yellowtail is nice and fresh here. - Spicy tuna is on the spicier side. I ordered a poke bowl once and wasn't impressed. It wasn't that the salmon wasn't fresh, that part was fine. I just felt that the bowl was kind of boring. And I love sushi rice but there was too much rice and not enough other toppings.

Came by for my lunch and decided to try this mango roll it was very delicious and filling. The sauces are made from scratch and they were very friendly. Cant wait to bring my wife to enjoy this lovely spot together!

The owners of Brothers Mexican Restaurant in Normal Heights have opened Dragon Sushi in the next door suite that used to house an ice cream shop/juice bar. Seating was limited to about two dozen customers. The two-page menu was pretty typical sushi fare with classic rolls, hand rolls, special/specialty rolls, bento boxes, bowls, nigiri, and sashimi as the main categories. A monthly special was offered which on this occasion was a 16-piece roll combo for $20. It was made up of four different types of rolls. There were ten specialty rolls that were priced between $16 and $18 apiece. My two choices were the Angry Roll and Goodnight Roll which were cut into eight pieces. The first was made up of salmon, eel, gobo (burdock root), cucumber, and avocado topped with red snapper, jalapeno, onion, and ponzu sauce. The second consisted of bluefin tuna, gobo, cucumber, and green onion topped with escolar, avocado, sriracha, house alba sauce, onion, and cilantro. My first impression of these two rolls was that a lot of cilantro covered the products to the point it was difficult to distinguish the cut pieces. The Goodnight Roll was a little better because of the zing from the sriracha. I can't really say the fishes were top quality, but they tasted fresh. If you live in this neighborhood and are seeking a quick sushi fix, then Dragon Sushi should fulfill that desire.

Best vegetarian(ish) sushi roll I've ever had. Simple but so delicious: tofu, avocado, cucumber roll topped with spicy mayo and eel sauce. I love this place I go here multiple times a week and they also have a buy 2 get 1 free happy hour. I love love LOVE this place and the owners and employees are so nice and they always remember my name.

Solid sushi joint. Lots of different rolls at a reasonable price point. They are fairly new (ie past 6 months). I got 4 pieces of 4 different rolls for $20 which was a good way to try different things. The fish was reasonably fresh

Monthly special: 16 pieces for $20
Natalie S.

Dragon sushi is great for ordering takeout sushi. The prices are fair and quality is good. I ordered their monthly special which was 16 pieces for $20. You get 4 crunch, 4 California, 4 rainbow, and 4 spicy tuna pieces. My only complaint is that for the rainbow roll pieces, they were all topped with salmon and didn't have the variety that a traditional rainbow roll has. Overall this is a solid spot for a quick sushi pickup.

Inside the restaurant. Very casual unassuming place, quiet, very nice wait staff, and GREAT quality fish.
Jessica S.

Wow! I was not expecting much of this place and I'm thrilled how wrong I was! It was completely empty when we walked by but we decided to try it anyway, turns out this place is just 7 weeks new! The prices are great, the service is extremely nice and I could not believe how GREAT the fish is!! Like shocked because of the prices. I would love to keep this place my own little secret but san diego deserves to know about it, so good! I will be back!

Beef noodle soup - excellent flavor overall, including a strong broth and a nice, soft texture to the noodles. Out of the countless Chinese restaurants I've visited for beef noodle soup, this makes its way into the top three. 5/5 Lamb skewers - wayyyyy too dry. This is certainly not their specialty, and asking for extra cumin to sprinkle on the lamb did not redeem the firmness. I struggled to slide the meat off the skewer and ended up just eating it while still on the stick. 1.5/5 Fish fillet - so good. Easy to eat texture-wise. Caution -- a bit saltier than it looks. The bell peppers in particular were seasoned spectacularly. 4.5/5 Dry fried green beans - a delicious option for vegetables to add to the table. Most people will enjoy this one in my opinion. A bit more crunch than I expected, which is not a bad thing. 4/5 Double cooked pork - I've never seen it cooked this way, and am not a fan. I'm used to a more oily version of this dish. It contained a bunch of dried and crunchy... yams? Potatoes? Overall, the dish was mainly crunch with no flavor, and contained a relatively small amount of pork. 1/5

It can get pretty busy just got to put in some extra time in the neighborhood or streets for metered parking. Seating: Inside and outside seating. For inside, reservations are recommended. Room for about 50 people. Vibes: Welcome to North Park, a lot of eateries and bars to hop around. It's a pretty hip place with constant traffic. The spot itself is Retro Chinese-American aesthetic with a modern twist. Think red lighting, plants, and a playlist that keeps the energy up. It's one of those spots that feels trendy but still approachable--good for dates or catching up with friends. FOOD / DRINKS Mayo Walnut Shrimp (Recommend) This is one of their standout dishes--and for good reason. Crispy shrimp coated in that creamy, slightly sweet sauce with candied walnuts. It hits that crunchy + rich + sweet combo really well and is easily one of the safer bets on the menu. Green Beans (Recommend) Simple but solid. Good balance to the heavier shrimp--fresh, slightly savory/umami making it a nice side to round things out. Ginger Lemonade (Recommend) A refreshing sip with a nice bite of ginger. SERVICE Friendly and efficient, especially considering how busy it gets. Food comes out fairly quick once you're seated. TL;DR OVERALL 4 stars. Steady prices, good food, and good choices. Fun spot with strong vibes and solid Chinese-American comfort food. It leans more elevated takeout-style than traditional, but that's kind of the appeal. I've been to pretty good Chinese spots but this is a nice experience if you're looking for nice aesthetics and good food. After some search on Yelp, we decided to try Eastern Dinasty on Convoy Street. Upon arrival, we knew the restaurant was legit when we saw shiny and beautifully roasted ducks dangling in a display box. Inside, it had a casual décor, with seating for 60 guests. The courteous waitress guided us to our table and brought the menu and water right away. For this visit, we ordered the following dishes: West Lake Minced Beef Soup: The portion was large enough for 6 people. The lightly starched broth was nicely seasoned with hint of white pepper. In the soup, there were bits of minced beef, chopped green onion, and stirred egg whites. The simplistic soup was warm, velvety, and pleasantly flavored. 3 Item BBQ Combo (House Special Chicken, Roasted Duck, and Pork Belly): The house special chicken was nicely steamed, lightly seasoned, and with beautiful gelatinous skin. The roasted duck pieces were plump, with crispy skin and succulent meat. The pork belly had crispy thick skin, and tender meat with nice rendered fat without being overly greasy. Walnut Shrimp: The portion was quite generous for the price. The lightly battered shrimps had a nice firm texture and were covered with mayonnaise and sprinkled with sweetened and crispy walnuts. What a beautiful blend of taste and aroma. Left the restaurant heart-warmed and extremely satisfied. Highly recommended.

I was born and raised in LA, so I've had a lot of Chinese food growing up, and I wasn't expecting to be this surprised--but I really was. I ordered the black bean eggplant and the salt and pepper chicken wings. The wings are what they're known for, but I have to start with the eggplant because it completely caught me off guard. It wasn't mushy at all--crispy on the outside, perfectly cooked on the inside, and coated in sauce without losing its texture. Every bite had depth and balance, not just saltiness. I actually meant to start with the wings, but the eggplant was so good I ended up eating half of it before even getting to them. By that point I was already getting full, but I still made sure to finish the wings--and I'm honestly excited to take the rest of the eggplant home as leftovers. By the time I got to the wings, I understood why they're popular--crispy, flavorful, and super satisfying--but what stood out to me was how both dishes complemented each other. One rich and layered, the other crisp and bright. I never got tired of eating, which honestly says a lot. I even told the staff how much I enjoyed the food and they thought I was joking, but I meant every word in saying I thought it was comparable, if not better then the food I've had in Chinatown in LA. Really glad I came here and the next time I have a chance to come back down to SD I definitely will come back here and that's not negotiable for me

To add insult to injury it was BURNED so badly that all you could smell was burnt dough and taste burned dough. Hardly any sauce on it as well. The Shrimp Fried Rice should have just been plain white rice for how bland it was. The Vegetable Chow Mein literally was just a container of salt. Slim noodles and salt, disgusting! We spent so much money and all of this is going right into the garbage. Stay away from this hole! It should be shut down for trying to poison people.
