Amazing food, excellent service, and impeccable vibes! While looking for a restaurant in North Park with vegan options, my friend found a bunch of plant-based menu items at CinKuni. Of the three vegan sushi rolls, I decided to try the Vegan Crunchy which consisted of hearts of palm, topped with avocado, microgreens, crunchies, and sweet sauce. The Mothra Ramen was so flavorful! Perfectly savory with a dash of spice. I initially didn't expect to like the kale noodles, but they were phenomenal. Our waitress was so sweet and friendly. This place also played the best music with a killer mix of late 90s and early 2000s rock. With a calendar full of awesome events, I can't wait to come back and this time try the pizza with vegan cheese! read more

I've heard lots of mixed opinions on this place so thought it was finally time to see for myself. It's conveniently located walking distance from home. I honestly couldn't see how Japanese + Italian fusion could work. The vibe was great upon entering on a Friday for dinner. Our server Archer was new and so sweet and friendly. We opted for Burrata Allegra, Vegan Crunchy and Vegan San Diego with no Sriracha and sweet sauce on the side . My friend got the Tokyo Mule cocktail. Our Burrata dish came out without the fig jam, which was an easy fix, Archer grabbed us a small scoop. Our sushi rolls followed shortly behind. I found them very creatively tasty for being vegan. Since it was my birthday, I got a small slice of Tiramisu which was definitely homemade. It was served with strawberries, unsweet unnecessary garnish. As we were finishing up dinner, they were setting up for Karaoke Night. We which decide to partake in. Great crowd with a few talented singers. They have some kind of entertainment almost every night, be sure to check out their events. The serve was attentive and the vibes were good, so I'll be back to check out more events. read more

I have to say we were skeptical when we saw Japanese and Italian food in one spot. It was super yummy. We got a ton of food and just ate family style, which seems to be the way to go. The San Diego roll and master roshi roll are yum. My pasta was great, big chunks of Italian sausage. What was underwhelming was the goku roll, it was good at first and then had a weird aftertaste. My friend also ordered the ebirah ramen and it was SO fishy. Like fish is to be expected as it had scallops and shrimp in it, but it smelled so fishy and had an interesting aftertaste. Tho it was loaded with shrimp and scallops which was nice, but the scallops were were a turn off as they had a bad fish smell. Very hard to move past. Everything else was great and would eat again. The issue we had with the place was we got there at 7:30 and needed a minute to decide what to order, it was like every 3 minutes the waiter was asking us if we were ready, so we ordered drinks and appetizers. Then immediately he came back and asked if we were ready for food. We ended up ordering rather rushed. As we are eating he kept asking if we wanted the check or if we were done. There were other tables and they weren't closing at this time, so what is the rush. Just a little bit of a turn off to be so rushed through a meal with friends. Overall the food was good, service was attentive and the vibe in there is so fun. Gonna go back and check out their night market! read more

I'm not convinced this restaurant is even open or what the deal is. They don't respond to Yelp messages in a timely manner and they don't answer their phone. I've been trying to call through to make a reservation for at least 17 minutes at this point. Can't speak to their food nor the vibes of the place. The fusion of Japanese and Italian is one I never see. The sushi was good and the ramen tasted like Italian soup. My friend loved it and that you could really taste the Italian sausage. The service was nice and checked in regularly. It wasn't very busy when we came in on a weekend at dinner but a great local spot to hang out. read more

Service and staff are great & kind. Tonight was karaoke night the have once a month so far. Very nice intimate or average loud music & people singing & having a good time. It was like a house party They seve food Ramen dishes, pizza, pasta, appetizers, burrata and salads, entrees & sushi. My daughter had the Ghidorah Ramen which she ate up so fast & recommends 10/10, I ordered Yakitori to go, which was sautéed chicken breast glazed in spicy honey garlic sauce with sesame seeds served with stir fry vegetables & steamed rice $24. Nice place to come for happy hour or a meal & drinks. Family oriented & great place for date night as well. CinKuni is a total vibe! The fusion of Italian and Japanese flavors is executed flawlessly. The yellowfin carpaccio was a standout--it literally melted on my tongue. A huge shout out to the sushi chef for the incredible precision, and kudos to John (aka Juan) for providing such attentive and excellent service. We came in on a Thursday evening which was cool because they hosted a free comedy show that night inside which we were able to check out. We got a bunch of stuff from the happy hour menu that ends at 6:30 - Meatballs was one of my favorites - that marinara sauce was delish - I can eat this with a side of bread. - the bacon jalapeno poppers were my second favorite. Not greasy and holds it shape for the most part when you bite into it - the flatbread Pane platto umami, had a lot of gorgonzola flavor. Bread bottom could use some extra time in the oven as it needs more color - the tuna/salmon taco was my least favorite. The seaweed shell was a good idea but overall the dish could use more seasoning. - I was impressed with the presentation with the gnocchi (not from the HH menu). Lots of gorgonzola, mushroom and sausage. The pizza bread bowl was bubbly on the edges...but doughy in the middle from the gorgonzola sauce. I kinda like the doughyness of it. We made it in time for happy hour so we got to try plenty of items The meatballs with that Mariana sauce was excellent. Probably the best Mariana sauce I ever had. I wonder if they sell it by the jar. The flat bread pizza also very flavorful, cheesy and the gorgonzola had just enough to not over power the rest of the flavors. The gnocchi was just ok. The texture was a little softer than I'd prefer but love the bread plate it's served in and the sauce was good. The salmon sushi tacos was great. Something so different than anything I've ever had and was good. The pistachio dessert was great. A lot of pistachio flavor but not overly sweet. Not huge piece but perfect. Who needs that much dessert?? The tiramisu was also good and perfect in size. More sweet than the pistachio but it was delicious. Ambience was great also. Loved the music. Went here on a Friday night and enjoyed our experience. I made a reservation for a friend's birthday but it wasn't too crowded so we could have also walked in. We were given complimentary bread while we waited, which was pretty much like a bagel with cream cheese but I enjoyed it still. For 3 people, we ordered 1 salmon carpaccio- my favorite dish, although pretty classic version of salmon carpaccio 2. Yellowtail carpaccio- recommended dish. Little different from the classic yellowtail carpaccio with the red tobiko and avocado 3. Salsiccia picante- one our favorite of the dishes. A good classic pizza. My friend said he got a spicier pepper portion but I didn't find anything to be spicy 4.Godzilla ramen- at first it was weird to get bits of Italian sausage in the ramen but it surprisingly worked! 5. Master roshi sushi roll- good take on a lemon cilantro roll but more unique. I like the addition of yellowtail but didn't love the carrot Giving this 5 stars for the service! Service was relatively fast and the servers never let my water glass go halfway empty. We also saw they're adding a brunch so I'm excited to see if they expand their food offerings. read more

If last night was a training video of things that could go wrong..... First the good... Almost is superb. The appetizers were really good. The yellowfin tuna was truly exceptional. And now... the rest of the story... I'm going to bullet point this as there was so much its hard to write that many paragraphs. The waiter was not great. He did not seem to know the menu. We had one cocktail and it was watery. It was not good. We spoke to the waiter about it and he said people like when they drink the whole thing and that's that. No help there. The runner who brings your food came to our table twice with melas that were not ours. He also came to our table about five minutes after we got the main course with dessert and handed it to me. We found out later it was his first day. Okay. Things happen but he was clearly in overwhelm. We got our mains. I had the vegetarian pasta and my guest had the Valentine sushi. They looked delicious. But... my pasta was almost tasteless, was "gummy" and was so bad that I didn't eat more than two or three bites. The sushi was just as bad. The blood orange on top was a delight but all the other sushi parts inside had no real taste. Great sushi should have distinct flavors you can taste in each bite. This did not reach that level. When we were about half way through the meal the waiter came back and asked us if we wanted anything else. I'd been out of iced tea for quite some time as he never checked on us so I asked for that. He didn't ask about the meal which was obviously not eaten. He didn't care. Even at the end of the meal he didn't ask about the pasta -even I wanted a to go box.i didn't as it was so bad I didn't want any more of it. The only saving grace was a lovely server who stopped by to ask how it was going. We told her our experience and she really cared. She apologized and really seemed to want to take care of us. She is the reason this is two-star review and not a one star. She was a hero. She came back and told us she had managed to get (her words) a 20% coupon if we would give them another try. We told her thank you. The manager never came over. We were not offered anything (other than the servers apology) and Other than the lovey server that chatted with us No one seemed to care at all that the evening was a disaster. Hard to say if we will ever go back. We wanted so much to like this place but last night was $80 for terrible service and a terrible meal. Hard to see what the point of a second try is. Maybe it the curse of Valentines Day dinners. read more

I really enjoyed CinKuni! We'd heard it was a Japanese-Italian fusion restaurant, which sounded super interesting, so we went to check it out on a recent visit to San Diego. Right away, we loved the warm vibes, cute murals on the walls, wood paneling, and bright lighting. Staff was amazing. The gentleman who filled our water glasses was like a stealth ninja waiter -- if you even so much as took a sip of water, he was suddenly at your elbow ready to top up your glass again, lol. The other staff was equally efficient, maybe not the most warm and effusively friendly, but definitely polite and super knowledgeable with great recommendations for food and drink. We also enjoyed the "Radio Bingo," which takes place on Thursdays and added a lot of fun to the experience. (We weren't expecting it, just got lucky to be there when they were doing it.) The bingo host is funny and has an epic theatrical game-show voice. The food was very good. I had the Vegan Crunchy Roll, with hearts of palm, avocado, and tempura veggies. It was also surprisingly filling. My friend had the Naomi Osaka Roll and enjoyed it. One slight disappointment was that the menu seemed to be split between Japanese offerings like sushi rolls, and Italian offerings like pasta/pizza. So it was more like two cuisine options under one roof, rather than truly a fusion between Japanese and Italian where a little bit of both cuisines are apparent in each dish. I would've loved something interesting like a Japanese-inspired pasta or something. Even so, I would go back, especially for the warm and inviting environment. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed this place! Went last night with a best friend of mine who I haven't seen since last year and ultimately chose this place based on the fact that the menu is as multifaceted as it is. We like how we had the option to order pizza, pasta, sushi, or ramen all at one spot. The overall feel of the place is super casual and I loved the big mural on the wall and the openness of the space. We also had the cutest and sweetest server who checked in on us regularly and made me feel like she was just a friend checking in every now and then. Wish I caught her name! As far as what we ordered, my best friend had their cadillac margarita and I enjoyed my Tokyo mule for drinks. Both were refreshing and my bestie said his margarita was super strong. Lol For food, we were pleasantly surprised to be offered free bread which was a freshly toasted cream cheese roll essentially. We also had the yellowtail carpaccio, Umami Formaggio pizza, San Diego roll, and a Master Roshi roll (if I'm remembering that correctly). All the food was delicious. The sushi rolls were standard and a good size as well. I personally don't love when my sushi rolls are too large as it doesn't feel like the fish to rice ratio is right, plus I don't like having to take two bites or having to overstuff my mouth - but their portion size was great for me. We really loved the umami pizza though! The flavor was different for your standard pizza, and it was a nice and refreshing change. I think I would definitely come back just to make sure I get a good try of everything else too, since I wasn't able to try any of the noodle options like their gnocchi or ramen. One thing to note is looking through the photos here on Yelp, the menu photos haven't been updated (which I'm kicking myself for now as I should have snapped a photo to be able to add) so the menu is a lot smaller and slightly different than what you are able to refer to here. For now at least. And that's the same with food. Reading through past reviews, I guess they are transitioning through new management so I don't have any past experiences to compare to but I still think this spot is worth visiting! read more
