**August 2026: Sunday Evening Visit** My friend and I were in the mood for a sashimi dinner while we were in San Diego, but unfortunately, many of the hot spots required reservations. We decided on Chef Jun since they allowed walk-ins, and the setting seemed like a great environment! With the location right in the middle of a plaza and ample parking Sushi Jun seemed like a great place to enjoy a good meal. We shared the Sushi Kaidan for two ($199), which included an assortment of sashimi and sushi, plus a handroll and miso soup. Honestly, the presentation was really impressive and for the amount of food provided seemed like it was appropriately priced. They arranged the sashimi pieces on a stair-like display, and in the center they had a bowl of freshly cut sashimi. We were also given the option to eat the shrimp head raw or fried. We both went for fried, and it was really good. The fried shrimp was crispy and made it easy to eat the whole thing. The setup was very impressive, and the snow crab sushi bite was my favorite piece. The "meat" was really tender, and against the slight char on the outside, the contrast really amplified the crab's sweetness. The ebi sushi bite was served raw and was very refreshing, and it was my next favorite. But for some reason, the other sushi and sashimi pieces weren't memorable. I think either the fish flesh was really bland, or other ingredients like the wasabi or other paired ingredients just overpowered the piece and the flavor combos just didn't tickle my senses. The top, more premium fish was the otoro. It was beautifully rich and fatty, but the truffle definitely overpowered it, which was a shame. They also provided a complimentary dessert - but it was very heavy and dense, which also did help me leave with a great impression. The meal was okay which really bums me out since I love sushi and sashimi.

the food here is so good! we got the Jun San menu and was not disappointed, they take you through appetizers, sashimi and nigiris. our favorite was the seared cod which had so much flavor and was a pleasant surprise because i would not have ordered this on my own. our server Luis was amazing and patient, he walked us through all the options and always made sure to check up on us as we ate. the parking was easy as it is in a shopping plaza in sports arena. the interior is so pretty was high ceilings. we will be back!

Only had time for a quick lunch bite at Chef JUN but it was so satisfying! Food as art always pleases me and this plate was Instagram worthy! Tuna was fresh and beautifully marinated. The avocado lent a creaminess to the dish. The small fruit bites added sweetness at the finish. I will be back for a full meal soon!! They are open all day so you can get a full meal anytime. The service is so friendly and quick. I like sitting at the sushi bar. It's a clean Japanese inspired interior and very relaxing. Full open parking lot too!

We love the other Chef JUN location and have been several times! We had some friends in town visiting and since we were close to the Point Loma location we knew it would be perfect for lunch! We stopped in and got rolls this time and they were delicious! Our server was extremely friendly and she has also helped us out over at the Bay Ho location! Shoutout Elena!! You're the best!

We popped in because we w were craving Japanese food, and the last few times we visited were great! We were seated right away in a cute booth. The food came out very promptly. We had some gyoza, tempura, and two rolls - avati & red dragon. Everything was tasty as usual & Lily took good care of us. The place is very clean, charming, and spacious. I mean who doesn't love Cherry blossoms and moon light fixtures? I miss the little cat chopsticks holders (neko hashioki) but other than that, everything was great! We'll be back soon! Arigato gozaimasu!

I was looking for a low-key dinner spot for my family and I. Thankfully, we came across Chef JUN. They have great options, great servers and the food was delicious. I ordered udon, a few sushi rolls and a hand roll. The food tasted fresh and my family loved it.

The fish was super fresh and delicious. The quality is amazing. The Jun Sama combo Kappo was perfect. So much variety and flavors. The interior was beautiful and service was good. I will definitely be coming back!

Stopped by after picking up family at the airport and we needed to grab something at a drug store. We saw Chef Jun and decided to give it a try. Loved that they had really good happy hour specials, so we ordered drinks and edamame as each of us weighed the menu options. We ended up getting several rolls for some of us to share and one of us got a poke bowl. We all enjoyed the meal. .

What an amazing atmosphere. We had such a great time with excellent food. Of course I tasted everybody's food!! Veronica did an amazing job of serving us. We were greeted warmly and handled with care. I would definitely come back.

So, what do you get when you put two people who absolutely love sushi together at Chef Jun Point Loma? A straight up f'n excellent experience! From the moment we walked in, the cherry blossom and full moon decor set the tone. It was warm, inviting and a little bit magical. Sat in a booth - didn't go for the counter because we were hungry and we both can and planned on eating. Service was excellent. Lilly took care of us like we were longtime regulars. Attentive. Friendly. Fun. Hospitable. It's people like Lily and how she took care of us like she did - just one of the reasons the experience was memorable. Then the food. The fish. The fresh clean flavors and presentation. Imagine a staircase to heaven with Nigiri on each level that curves up and around a bowl of Sashimi. Toss in two hand rolls and I wish I had taken a photo of it all. I only shot the individual servings. BTW, it was the Sushi Kaidan for two that we shared. As for parking, it was a Saturday night and it wasn't an issue. In a large shopping plaza, lots of open AND FREE spaces. If you're even remotely into Sushi, do yourself a favor and go to Chef Jun. It's elevated. Memorable. You're welcome!

When you get 2 Yelp Elites together who are both sushi lovers, you can expect an extraordinary dining experience. To maximize our experience, we went for the SUSHI KAIDAN for two. This was the deluxe assortment of sushi placed on a staircase of sushi heaven. There were 2 pieces of each of the following: amberjack, king crab legs, black cod, black sea bream, halibut, red snapper, shrimp, Hokkaido scallops, yellowtail belly with Hokkaido Uni, salmon belly with salmon roe, bluefin tuna with caviar, and toro with truffle. These were nice thick cuts and the presentation was beautiful. We loved how some of them were served on charred rice that gave it a rich smoky flavor. Twenty-four pieces of sushi was a lot, but on top of that, the Sushi Kaidan came with 2 handrolls and a sashimi plate that had the fried shrimp heads, Kumamoto oysters, salmon belly, yellow tail belly, bluefin tuna, red snapper, and shima aji. All of this was $199, which was a great deal! Honestly, the quality far exceeded our expectations and surpassed some of the high end Omakase restaurants that we've been to. Our lovely server, Lily, took excellent care of us, always making sure our water was refilled and ensuring we were satisfied with the food. We were both impressed with the quality of the fish and loved that it was reasonably priced. Loved the ambiance as well. Next time someone asks me what's a great sushi restaurant that I'd recommend, I will be sure to say it's Chef Jun! I look forward to a repeat visit soon!

The ambiance is very clean, minimalist except for the giant cherry blossom trees next to every booth. The service was just okay. With how not crowded it was, I would expect better service considering how many people were working there. Oh well The food was really good. The ramen was a lovely surprise. Proper toppings. Great seaweed and just the right amount of togarashi to give it gentle heat. I'll be back.

Came here for a late lunch on superbowl Sunday. We were regulars of the Bay Ho location before the Point Loma one opened up. We came to this location because it stays open mid day. Ambiance inside is really cute with the pink cherry blossom trees everywhere. Service was attentive without being overbearing. Food is always fresh. We ordered the spicy garlic edamame, mixed tempura, rainbow roll, salmon skin hand roll, chirashi bowl, and the spicy chicken bento. Tempura could have crispier but the shrimp was cooked perfectly - not overdone like most places. Fish was all delicious. The yellowtail belly, salmon belly, and the scallops were all scrumptious. Spicy garlic edamame (and regular edamame) are always delicious - a must order. Prices are as expected in today's economy, but the chirashi bowl definitely needs more rice.

Cant remember what they're all called but they were all good and would 20/10 order them again. Ambiance was also wonderful! But what made this place even better was the staff. We were promptly sat down upon arriving. Servers frequently checked on us and were all so nice. But what really stood out was their empathy. Like i said, my son knocked out. He's 5. He woke up as we were leaving. by the time we figured out what was really upsetting him (he wanted to stay there and eat and wanted the table we were on), we have gotten out of our table and obviously the table was then cleaned for the next guests. So basically my lil one cried, took him to the bathroom bec unfortunately we dont get everything we want just bec we cry. So we went into the bathroom for him to cry his feelings out and be ready to get out. Was he loud? Absolutely. Was i embarrassed? Yes. But it was a lesson he needed to learn and i didnt want my discomfort to hinder that. (Mind you the bathroom was in the middle of the stairs lol midway the lower and the upper floor). So was i ashamed to get out? Yes. But the staff, so empathetic. So nice about it. Told me i didnt need to apologize and that they get it. And that made me feel better as a mama who walked out of there carrying a 5 year old out their door. No judgy stares. Just smiles and understanding eyes. So july 18 2026, 4-5pm staff, you are all so amazing and we truly appreciate it. We hope to be back again when in the area.

Booking was easy through their website. When we arrived around 6:30, and there were still a handful of open tables so reservations may not always be necessary, but it's probably still a good idea. Our server was phenomenal and really elevated the experience. She gave great recommendations and even let us sample both the Cabernet and Merlot when we couldn't decide on a bottle of wine. We ordered a variety of dishes: * Spicy Edamame: very flavorful, but definitely on the spicy side so be warned if you're sensitive to heat. * Fire Fire Roll: light and fresh fish, but the seared salmon flavor didn't really stand out. * Orange Roll: also light and fresh, but I didn't really pick up the citrus/lemon zest element. A bit underwhelming compared to expectations. * Salmon Belly Nigiri: very fresh and a favorite at the table. * Crab Roll Special: generous portion of fresh crab. * Yuzu Cheesecake: served with three spoons to share. It tasted like a classic cheesecake, pleasant, but I didn't really get a distinct yuzu flavor. The space is cute and conveniently located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. Overall, the atmosphere is laid-back and comfortable. While the rolls themselves are fairly simple and not especially standout, everything tasted fresh and the service was excellent, which made the experience enjoyable.

I asked if they had Japanese soda for my daughter because it was not on the menu, and they said no, but after we came back from the bathroom the host had found one for us. They gave us chopstick helpers and were very nice. We ordered braised pork belly as an app and wagyu nigiri, albacore, hamachi, salmon belly, 2 salmons, and unagi. I think that was all. They nicely split the order so half had no wasabi for the kid. They were very considerate and I appreciated it. The food however took a while to come out. The braised pork belly was ok, but the fat had not rendered as well as at some other places so we ate around it. The flavor was good though. The hamachi was probably the best item-tender and tasty. The albacore was standard and a generous piece, but the salmon was a bit tough and my kid who usually inhales salmon tasted and then left the salmon. The wagyu had good flavor but was surprisingly chewy. For $26 I would expect it to melt in your mouth but it was not easy to bite through. The eel was very tender but had a weird taste, and was disappointing. I found myself chewing on a scale from maybe the salmon and was overall underwhelmed by the food. The bill for a soda and the sushi came to almost $150 after tax and tip for me and a 6-year old. Usually my husband and I and my kid go to places with better quality and pay the same price for the three of us. Will not be back.

We ordered the miso soup, spicy edamame, Den Miso pork belly skewers, tamarindo tuna ceviche, seabass serrano, crispy karikari tuna, and mochi ice cream for dessert. To drink, we had the Taiyo Margarita and the Clouds of Matcha cocktail. The spicy edamame was probably the only dish that fell a little short for us. It wasn't bad by any means, but we were hoping for more flavor. The absolute standout was the Den Miso pork belly skewers. My husband and I both took our first bite at the same time, looked at each other, and immediately said, "Oh!" We were genuinely surprised by how juicy, tender, and flavorful they were. There were only two skewers, but they packed so much flavor that we instantly wanted to order another plate. The tamarindo tuna ceviche was fresh, light, and refreshing. The taro chips added a nice crunch without overpowering the dish. The seabass serrano was enjoyable, though it wasn't a stand out for us. The crispy karikari tuna (spicy tuna over crispy rice) is one of my go-to orders whenever I visit a sushi restaurant, and this version was up to par. The only component I wasn't crazy about was the long, thin slice of avocado on top--I personally could have done without it, though my husband actually liked it, so that's just a matter of preference. We finished the meal with mochi ice cream, which was the perfect sweet ending. Overall, we had a great dining experience. Between the rooftop ambiance, attentive service, and several delicious dishes - especially those unforgettable pork belly skewers - we'd definitely come back and would happily recommend it to anyone looking for a great dinner spot in the Gaslamp.

This place is pretty walkable from the convention center though. They have a pretty good drink list that's moderately priced about $20 + for a drink. We got the Kosho Hana -which has patron, strawberry yuzu kosho and topped off with egg white and an orchid. I couldn't really taste too much of the strawberry but it did have more of a Yuzu taste to it. Very light, refreshing and great drink overall. It's not overly sweet, which was perfect. -Service was very attentive which we liked and they also had some good recommendations for the food. -also saw the menu that they have a Monday through Thursday happy hour from 5:30 to 6:30 PM. Overall, a great place to just sit and grab some drinks. May need to come back for some of the sushi.
