I came in for the crab stone Benedict because that is their top rated item, but I quickly found a ahi tuna taco (3) with grilled pineapple when I ask the server which one do you recommended (thinking definitely the signature crab stone Benedict) she actually said that the tuna tacos and grilled pineapple was her favorite! We visited this restaurant a couple of times while we were in La Jolla, ate here twice and stopped in for drinks even more often. The food was amazing, but what really made our visits special was the atmosphere and the people. We especially loved PHONG, our bartender! Sitting at the small bar, having a great drink and some food, watching sports, and chatting with Phong was honestly one of the highlights of our trip. He made us feel right at home and always made our visits fun. Everything we tried was delicious. Beautiful location, and food to match! Stopped here for lunch/brunch and ordered the chilaquiles and a mezcal Marg. The chilaquiles were amazing, I got it with the chicken tinga and although it was a large portion it was so good I was determined to finish it lol . We grabbed the waffle fries (just the right amount of salt, I thought, plus great aioli and spicy Sriracha ketchup) and the beet and burrata salad and split them both. Wife got the margarita; it was nice. I really enjoyed my peach and ginger mocktail. Great stuff. If you get the waffle fries but don't like spicy food, consider asking for 2 aiolis instead of aioli + Sriracha ketchup. Not sure if they'll do it but the Sriracha ketchup is definitely spicy. The Cove House in La Jolla is a gem. It's hard not to love a joint when it's located in one of the most beautiful places on earth, but it's a great local find. It's a block off the ocean with a chill local vibe. The food is solid, but the cocktails were surprisingly complex. We ended up at the bar chatting up one of the bartenders that is an absolute pro. After pouring me a delicious cocktail (I can't remember the name but I think it's Mermaid's Tail) he gave us a ton of recommendations for cocktail joints in the area. Mermaid's Tail is a tiki-style recipe with coconut rum, cream of coconut, pineapple, strawberry and lime. It was perfect for the beach vibe after walking along the ocean watching and checking out all the seals sunning themselves. There are a ton of upscale places in La Jolla, but finding a casual chill place like Cove House was perfect for enjoying a mellow sunny afternoon. Pleasantly surprised by this place! I dropped by here when a lot of other brunch restaurants down the street were packed full with lines out the door. They were able to seat my party of 4 promptly on a Saturday afternoon. I got the sashimi tacos with waffle fries, and the tacos came with hearty portions of sashimi. The waffle fries were actually the highlight of my meal, they were some of the best waffle fries I've had. Perfectly seasoned and crispy, while not too oily. I made the mistake of trusting the picture uploaded on Yelp by the owner of this restaurant. The veggie bowl I received was no where resembling what they uploaded. My bowl was greasy, all the ingredients were overcooked, almost 50% mushrooms, and tasted very salty. It was such a disappointing meal that I could barely finish it. Was in town for a wedding and needed to get some breakfast so we saw this place close to our hotel. The place had plenty of seating inside and outside. We sat outside since it was a nice day. The hostess sat us down right away which was good. Our waitress came right a way and gave us some water and took our drink order. We ordered a bottle of sparkling wine for mimosa's. For our meals we ordered the stone crab benny and the veggie bowl with tofu. The stone crab benny was one of the best dishes I've ever had, the crab was very good, the biscuit was light and fluffy, the gravy had good flavor to it, and the eggs were cooked perfect. I'm not a big veggie person but I tried the dish and it was really good, all of the different veggies worked well together. Our waitress was really good as well. I'm appalled by the attitude of the brunette female bartender I interacted with here. The restaurant was technically closed, but there were still plenty of people inside eating and drinking, and she was standing there chatting with several of them. I was feeling extremely lightheaded and simply asked, very politely, "Hi there, I'm so sorry, I know you're closed, but I'm feeling really lightheaded. Could I have some water?" She gave me a dirty look, said absolutely nothing, and went to get a cup of water with obvious attitude. When she came back, she handed it to me without saying a word. I thanked her politely and loudly enough for her to hear, and she still said nothing. I then had to repeat myself and said, "I said I appreciate it," and only then did she finally respond, "Yeah, you're good." What kind of treatment is that? Yes, the restaurant was closed, but there were still customers there, and my request was hardly unreasonable. If this is the kind of attitude this establishment allows from its employees, that's good to know. I'll absolutely be letting friends and family know to avoid this place. read more
