A small cafe with mid coffee and not many places to sit. It was a hot day and they had their large door open with their 4-5 small tables outside. A couple of bench seats inside but for the most part not a great place to hang out since it's next to a busy road anyways. The cappuccino and flat white we ordered was okay but the milk foam was very flaccid and didn't have that much texture to it. Coffee flavor was okay but couldn't make up for the mid drinks. Wouldn't come back tbh. read more

This is a cute little place on the coast and the workers were nice. Seems like they have a good selection of pastries and such too. Why I gave this place only 3 stars was because of how they continually messed up the drinks. Asked for one iced americano with oat milk and one cold brew with whole milk. Cold brew came with vanilla so brought it up to them to remake. Specifically said which drink. They were chatting a lot and then after a few minutes called out the drink. This time it was an entirely different drink. We just took it and left. While coffee is not ultra expensive, it is more expensive for what it is so it's frustrating in a way. There are a lot of local spots so while the coffee was fine, not sure we would come back. read more

I've been wanting to check out ironsmith coffee roasters for a while now and finally got to visit it on a Sunday. It's located near the Encinitas sign (across the street from the movie theater). Pros: -quick service Cons: -I came about 25 minutes before closing and tables were already stacked up on one another so I took my drink to go. I was so eager to have my rose latte that I forgot to take a pic but this spot was awesome! Open space with some patio tables outside for sidewalk seating and very dog friendly. The tables are falling apart from water damage. The particle board is swollen, crumbling, and deteriorated to the point that my elbow got wet from leaning on it. Using furniture like this in a café is a strange decision and makes the place feel poorly maintained. read more

This is a small coffee shop with a few tables to hang out at. The coffee is great and the service was awesome. They make their own syrups so is this something considered "craft coffee"? Either way, the black and gold syrup was great in my hot latte. Its a homemade black tea and honey syrup, and yes, it hets added to lattes (with espresso). I also tried it cold because my friend couldn't finish hers and I couldn't let it to to waste! I'd recommend this local coffee shop over the two popular ones on PCH. The only thing about it being so small is at the pickup counter (for drinks), it seems a little crowded/messy with stuff in the back area/behind the counter. read more

This place is a great spot to grab coffee, chai, or other teas in Encinitas. I got a vanilla chai which was super flavorful, just a bit sweet for me. The service was nice, friendly and quick too. It doesn't have much seating indoors - just a bench with small tables. Outdoors they set up a couple tables in the sidewalk which are nice to use for work if you're ok with the outdoors! I popped in on a sunny, Sunday afternoon for an iced americano. The garage door front was open, giving a bright cheesy vibe to the shop. Its pretty small, but there are a few tables. Came in for a vanilla iced latte and left satisfied. This is exactly what I was looking for in an ice latte. The coffee flavor was rich and pleasantly roasted. The sweet and warmth from the vanilla tied everything together smoothly. There was no one else in the shop when I went, so service was pretty fast. I visited Ironsmith this past weekend with a friend. This was a lovely spot to sit and catch up with a friend. I ordered the brown sugar latte and my friend ordered the rose latte. Both were delicious. I felt like the drinks were well priced and were quickly made. I would like to see this place get better outdoor seating. Got the opportunity to stop by Ironsmith roasters here in Encinitas. When you walk in, it's a simple nice interior, nice wooden slats, merchandise like cups and coffee bags to buy, a nice glass case for their baked goods. Simple seating outside and a bench inside. I ordered an iced vanilla latte and a croissant. The girl who took my order wasn't the nicest, every time I said something it was "anything else......., anything else...... anything else??" No smile, no politeness, felt like I was an inconvenience to her so that wasn't a nice experience. I try never to take points off for service because you never know what could be going on with in that person's life and it could today that affected her the most. The latte itself was solid, didn't blow me way like some other coffee shops but still solid. The croissant was delicious tho, very flaky and delicious. I think a one time visit is enough. Hadn't been to this place in years, so I was happy to get the chance again after going to the Moonlight market across the street. My friend ordered an iced vanilla latte and i ordered an iced rose latte. While the rose flavor wasn't distinct (it just tasted sweet to me), the coffee was still delicious. 4 stars for the vanilla latte- it was so, so good. We will definitely be coming back for that. It reminded me a bit of the Spanish Latte from Urth Caffe. Unfortunately, I would give 1 star for the vanilla chai latte. It tasted like watery almond milk and smelled slightly spiced. I had to throw it away after a few sips and was surprised since they make their own concentrate. But I'm still giving a 4 star review because we liked the coffee that much...just skip the chai! read more

A local popular coffee shop in Encinitas. I saw their name mentioned on the Waverly Restaurant menu. Might seem like a small unsuspecting place that serves coffee but if you take a closer look you will see that they roast their own beans in the back and the espresso equipment they use is top tier (La Marzocco). Super friendly and helpful staff especially Giana. Coffee is amazing and much better than other places on the same street and elsewhere. Had an oat milk cappuccino and also tried their turmeric and ginger drink. I saw that a lot of their ingredients are made in house. This is definitely a place that's more about the coffee and the community vibe. read more

This coffee shop is on the main street of Encinitas. It makes parking a little tough at times but it is a great place to walk around after getting a drink. Service is fast, but drinks are not amazing. The coffee is good, but I ordered a rose latte and the rose flavor is not super present. I think maybe their standard syrup servings are just not a lot because my sister didn't taste the strawberry in her strawberry matcha either until she asked the barista to add more. read more

A small local place! The staff was very helpful and they even had water out and some pastry options to purchase. I got the matcha - very good! And my mom got the rose latte but she said she couldnt taste the rose at all but she enjoyed it anyway. I had a sip and agreed it was excellent but no rose flavor. I'd come back for sure read more

Ironsmith Coffee is a cute spot to grab some drinks and try out the New Wave Bagel pop up every Sundays from 8-12. I've been falling Wayfarer Bakery for awhile and noticed one of their bakers started this bagel company. We went on Sunday to try out the bagels and right at 8 am there was a line forming. Probably took us 5 mins to get in and order. The Bialys looked amazing and we will want to try those next time. I ordered the garlic fontina bagel with the smoked fish spread. The bagel was crunchy on the outside and so soft from the garlic. The schmear was smoked halibut with onions and dill, fantastic!! The bagels come un toasted and the schmear comes on the side. My friend had the everything bagel with chive schmear and said it was amazing. She is even from the east coast, so that's telling! Apparently the roasted garlic and everything sell out before 10! Be sure to check this pop up out and try the coffee here! read more

Ironsmith was just okay. The place is open with not much seating but still cute right on the main road. There was an open area with a random step that you don't see unless you are actively looking down. The staff was friendly and helpful with questions and didn't make me feel like I needed to hurry up and just order. The coffee was just okay though. There are plenty of other coffee shops in the area that I personally believe are just better. I will go other places before I go back here. read more

In an adorable beach town with several coffee shops, Ironsmith stands out. Best coffee experience while in Encinitas. Ordered a latte, black coffee and a big as your head almond croissant. Visited on a busy Monday morning, and staff were so pleasant and efficient. Local small shop with lots of different coffees, teas and pastry options. Perfectly roasted coffee and nicely balanced flavor. Latte was perfection and black coffee was just right. Almond croissant hit the spot and my toddlers were beyond happy. As I was leaving with my coffees and pastry, a staff member offered to get the door. A friendly smile and helpful attitude made my morning. Will return and enjoy when in Encinitas! read more

This would have been an average San Diego coffee shop experience for me, except for the fact that I absolutely LOVED the cherry bomb! It's a cherry mocha and essentially a perfect drink for me. Back in 2019, Starbucks had a seasonal cherry mocha for Valentine's Day that I was obsessed with. Apparently I was the only one, because they haven't brought it back since. Cherry mochas are hard to come by, and I haven't really encountered another one. This one was delicious! The espresso was bold, the milk perfectly creamy, and the overall taste not too sweet (unlike Starbucks'). Wow!! I can already tell this will be a drink I daydream about. Unfortunately it was $7.50, which will prevent me from indulging very regularly. The rest of the menu is pricey too, with avocado toasts nearly reaching $20. (I may be a millennial, but I can certainly understand the negative stereotype when I see coffee shop prices like these.) Besides pricing, the other downside of this place is the limited seating. There were only 4 small outdoor tables, so unless you're with just one other person and you arrive before 10am, I'd suggest grabbing your coffee to go and taking a walk. My friend and I sat down, since there were open tables when we arrived. She enjoyed her iced honey cinnamon latte. If you love a cherry mocha or are looking for coffee in the design district, definitely come through!

The man working the kiosk referred to the place as a wine bar for coffee as the coffee is prepared, discussed and poured the same way fine wine is. If you love Starbucks, do not go here! If you love thoughtfully and artfully well prepared single Origen coffee, this place should not be missed. Ideally, the coffee should be ordered, prepared and consumed without dairy products so that you truly taste, experience and enjoy all the flavors. Ideally, it would be best to purchase a pour over, and they have a menu dedicated to them. It should be on every coffee and espresso addicts must go to list. With seating outside on both the ground level and up on the roof, it's a perfect spot to soak in some sun, breathe in the ocean air, and have a sip and a bite in this quiet part of town. The menu here is comprehensive with coffee (espresso, pour overs, cold brew), teas, specialty drinks, as well as breakfast and light bites to pair with a good start to the morning. We primarily came for a coffee run but a few of our team members decided to visit for breakfast the following day and from what I've heard, they're solid with the food! I look forward to coming back to give their bites a try. In theme for Saint Patrick's Day, they had a few special drinks but I opted for a traditional flat white this time. They had milk options but as a traditionalist, I went with whole milk. The coffee had great flavor and balance. The richness was bold and rounded out after every sip. I was tempted to grab a couple bags on my way out but seeing they had free shipping for online orders over $40 (about two bags), I decided to save some luggage space and order some when I was back home. The staff were friendly and efficient. I was impressed how many of them they were able to fit behind the small work area but they were experienced and worked collectively as a team. The drinks were prepared quick and for those liking them hot, you will be pleased with the freshness of that first sip. Overall, Achilles Coffee is a perfect small batch roaster to visit while you're in San Diego to get a great cup of coffee, a breakfast to go with it, and some bags of single origin or blend to bring back home for your own brew. And if you're interested in trying them out before you visit or just looking to restock, consider checking out their website and order from there. They even have a sampler to try their in-season batches. I guess their only Achilles' heel is that there aren't more of them but with five spots all across San Diego county, at least a San Diegan (or visitor) can get a taste of the sweet nectar marketed under this Greek warrior's moniker.

Another coffee spot in Encinitas!? Why not? There are a dozen places to get coffee in a 6 block stretch of 101 in Encinitas for starters. And while this place is clean, the service friendly and quick, the parking and prices are challenging, while the quality and selection is hardly unique. We tried parking next door at SunBum because the sign next to Ironsmith says SunBum, so we assumed that was the name of the place - but were promptly challenged by some hipster whose trust fund had been poorly invested. read more

Awesome guys that run this place.. I love the quaint & industrial vibe of this place - but mostly seeing some industrial automation hard at work in the roasting that is happening on site every day.
