I was quickly reminded they don't do food during the weekdays, so I settled for a six dollar croissant, which was sticky and tasted day-old. Yikes. The tables were also all kid sized (felt like Ikea?) and I almost spilled my drink multiple times due to the rickety tables. I opted for a raspberry cappuccinno and it was fine. I think it was also almost $7, for 8 ounces of liquid. I will pay for great coffee, every time. But this was overpriced and underwhelming. I expected so so much more from Necessity. There were about 8 people in line ahead of us, but it went pretty quickly. Gave us more time to think about what we wanted :) We got an Americano with oat milk and initially only ordered the smoked salmon sandwich to split, but my husband liked it so much that I got back in line and ordered this spicy Italian. Very fresh ingredients, the focaccia bread was lovely. There's lots of outdoor and indoor seating, but it does go quick since it's so popular! Will definitely be back!

The storefront is a bit unassuming, being part of a standard business park, but the interior is really nice and clean, and reminds me of Japanese coffee shops, and even looks somewhat like Longplay HiFi in Sherman Heights. The Pancake Syrup Latte is a very popular and tasty choice if you're looking for a treat--it's creamy, the coffee is still forward, and it's a slightly sweet without being saccharin. Does it taste like pancakes? Not exactly, but it's a well-balanced treat-like drink worth trying iced on a hot day.

This would have been an average San Diego coffee shop experience for me, except for the fact that I absolutely LOVED the cherry bomb! It's a cherry mocha and essentially a perfect drink for me. Back in 2019, Starbucks had a seasonal cherry mocha for Valentine's Day that I was obsessed with. Apparently I was the only one, because they haven't brought it back since. Cherry mochas are hard to come by, and I haven't really encountered another one. This one was delicious! The espresso was bold, the milk perfectly creamy, and the overall taste not too sweet (unlike Starbucks'). Wow!! I can already tell this will be a drink I daydream about. Unfortunately it was $7.50, which will prevent me from indulging very regularly. The rest of the menu is pricey too, with avocado toasts nearly reaching $20. (I may be a millennial, but I can certainly understand the negative stereotype when I see coffee shop prices like these.) Besides pricing, the other downside of this place is the limited seating. There were only 4 small outdoor tables, so unless you're with just one other person and you arrive before 10am, I'd suggest grabbing your coffee to go and taking a walk.
