Yummy pancakes... be sure to add the homemade strawberry cinnamon jelly

Apparently this restaurant has been there for 4 years! How did I miss this?!?! This restaurant is great... the food was delicious and being vegetarian they catered to my every food need. The atmosphere is inviting and cute. There are many tables inside and out with lots of parking. Service was great, staff was friendly, and I will definitely go back! We went here recently after a local doctors appointment. It was an overcast day, so we sat inside. Service was on the slow side for two people, although we watched a large table get served much faster. I was a bit disappointed on this visit versus the previous years. It feels like both the service and the quality of service is slipping. They used to have fresh squeezed OJ and it turned out to be more of a carton Tropicana style product now. Definitely not the same. On a brighter note, they do have fresh roasted coffee and are dog friendly., #TheCottage #Encinitas #FreshBrewedCoffee #NoFreshSqueezedJuice

Perfectly poached eggs! I usually get the pancakes or french toast, but this visit, I opted for something savory as I got a sweetened latte. I came midweek to meetup with friends and was grateful that the server did not rush us. Short and sweet review; I will definitely be back! Pros: - friendly - al fresco and indoor dining - plenty of parking Cons: - chalkboard prices did not match what I was charged - scent of burning candles was horrible; made the whole interior smell like the restroom

Stopped by for a Mother's Day breakfast with a large group and everything turned out great! We got there early on Saturday morning and we were seated as soon as at least 8 of our guests were present. They were so kind and accommodating. We got seated near the restrooms and it felt like we had our own private area, it was amazing. It's not easy taking orders for a group of 10+ but the waitress was fantastic. We requested separate checks and she did a great job of taking everyone's order correctly and checking in on us. There were two other gentleman that were also very attentive and helpful. My grandmother ordered a plate with salmon and it was a bit too salty for her taste buds and one of the gentleman (not sure if he was a cook) made sure to take care of that. He gave her some recommendations of different dishes and brought her out a new plate. We really appreciated the time and effort it took to make sure our entire group was taken care of. This was my first time here and I will definitely be coming back. Also loved their chai latte it was so yummy! They have seating inside and outside. It is located in a shopping center with lots of other businesses so there is a shares parking lot.

My kids love to head over to the cottage for brunch or lunch. We have never had a bad meal here. Our last visit we had breakfast. I had an egg scramble with a fresh scone and potatoes. Our table also had a Benedict and their homemade Mac and cheese. (Yes for breakfast) The service at this location is always very attentive and they take care of their regulars. They have ample indoor and outdoor seating. A great casual spot for a weekday or weekend.

Cute space broken into different sections and decorated nicely. We got a pastrami sandwich, salmon pasta and chicken and goat cheese salad. All the items were delicious and cooked well. Salmon was moist and pasta cooked just right and saucy. Sandwich was flavorful and meat was tender. Bread was soft and fries nice and crispy. Salad was delish and dressed just right and flavors bursting. A wonderful meal. Place was not crowded since we arrived after the typical lunch time but the food took a while to come out. Service was satisfactory but food made up for it.

We absolutely loved the lemon ricotta pancakes--they were delicious. My husband ordered the tuna melt, which was very good, but the portion of fries felt a bit skimpy compared to my previous visit. The last time I ordered a burger, it came with a much more generous serving of fries. Our server was pleasant, though the overall service didn't feel quite as warm and attentive as what I've experienced there in the past.

Really good flavor and a great ambiance! Perfect for brunch on the patio! The food is good and their homemade spicy salsa has a nice touch! Definitely a staple of La Jolla! The waitress was real nice and kind.

Many years ago I dined at The Cottage in La Jolla so when they opened in Encinitas I was thrilled. Last week we celebrated my nieces birthday over brunch. Our server was excellent. She was attentive, frequently checked in on us, refilled our iced teas and waters. Her friendly demeanor added to the positive experience. Each dish we ordered was delicious and hot from the kitchen. The cottage is really cute and I appreciate that they locally source their ingredients. The Cottage bakes scones, muffins, and other cakes. Also they have a homemade granola that is tasty. The tough decision is to choose between breakfast or lunch. The one thing that could make the Braised Beef better, the asparagus bottoms were used and they were really stringy and not edible.

Leftover cinnamon roll piece in icing

The menu looks delicious and the server Michaela was lovely and they had several bussers refilling water, which created a nice service level. I decided to splurge today, and order in addition to healthy oatmeal, 1/2 serving of Eggs Benedict and cinnamon roll , while husband ordered all American. It was "ok" but did not meet my expectations for the brand and price. - except for the scone that was delicious ! - The bacon was thin, so not the quality / thickness i thought we would get. - The English muffin for the Eggs Benedict was thick and bread-y, not anything close to Thomas English muffin with some crisp, air pockets, and texture, and - the serving size of the potatoes was ok but a bit on the light side for the price. - The cinnamon roll I expected would be a pastry type bread-y less sweet roll - instead while the intense cinnamon flavor was delicious and texture of the bread, lovely on the outside with some crispy crunch inside or under baked and doughy delicious - it came absolutely doused in the thick icing sugar that permeated the entire roll - , so it reminded me of a Cinnabon except better firm texture on the outside and higher quality. people looking for that, will love it. For us it was way too sugary . As I checked out, I was paying my $72 - the server was good enough to ask how I enjoyed everything. I was honest with her and told her that I actually did not. She did the right thing and offered for me to speak to the Mgr. I really didn't feel like doing so because I did not think he would care. However, after she suggested it a second time I went ahead and did it. I Explained to the Manager, I know they're very popular. It's a beautiful menu and the server and scone was wonderful - and this was my experience with the food . I admitted the server suggested I share my feedback with him that I was disappointed and I really didn't know that I would be back. After sharing the above specifics, - he didn't say much, so I just repeated "well she thought I should tell you so I did.". He said "yes it's good to have your feedback", and walked away. That is the first time I've shared negative feedback. - which I do rarely!! - that I truly felt it was Not welcome .and that he didn't care. - and that there was no acknowledgement that he was at least sorry we didn't have a good experience, While I clearly wasn't giving the feedback just to get a discount - I don't know if I've been anywhere that hasn't at least in a case like this done something If I knew my customer was unhappy with their almost $100 meal - I would've not only shown empathy and apologized, but also comped even one item , or maybe even given a gift card to come back and try some other items at another time. What could they improve / for one thing - 1) have on menu description and /or inform servers to give a heads up to adults if the cinnamon roll is being ordered that it is very heavy on the icing. Better yet. Give customers an option to have it without the icing!! However, it is as I suspected , such a successful place- that they have more than enough business, they don't care about mine.

Mediocre experience all around for brunch this morning. Ambiance was casual and we were sat at the back of the restaurant, which was not as cute as other parts of the restaurant. Service was a hit or miss. Originally our server came super frequently (instantly when we got sat and we politely let him know we weren't ready yet), but then after dropping off the check, nobody came back to grab our card for 10-15 minutes until we proactively asked. Morning Glory Breakfast Sandwich: This was my favorite item out of the three. The sourdough was very good and the produce (tomatoes, arugula) was fresh. Nice balance with the bacon and overall tasty. Potatoes were decent. Joe's Special: Scrambled eggs with mushroom, chicken sausage, spinach. This was good as you would expect, nothing mind-blowing but well executed. Scone wasn't a standout (not too much flavor) and the jam was also average. Stuffed French Toast: This was a little disappointing as this was a specialty item and a popular dish based on reviews. The mascarpone didn't have much taste and half a piece of French toast (out of the three) had a bitter orange zest flavor. Big portions though. Canned soda was $5, but we shouldn't have ordered soda at a brunch place in hindsight. Oh wells!

Salad was great. I'm not normally a sweets for brekkie person but the snickerdoodle pancakes were a great order! Cozy seating. Service was fast. What more can you want. The La Jolla location is cuter in a house style cottage and near the beach but this newer Encinitas location inside a shopping center is still great.

There are gluten-free options, including the bread - but they don't use a dedicated toaster for gluten-free items. So if you are truly "celiac", don't eat the bread.

Do they serve any gluten-free pancakes, waffles, or GF French toast?

Unfortunately, they didn't have much flavor. My 40th birthday was coming up so we made a reservation. First off, it was on Father's Day so it was super busy. No parking! We went down to golf course to park. They had live music which I love, but music choice was just terrible. It sounded like a rave. When I got to the other side of the patio facing the farm, I thought we would not hear it well. Sadly, you could and the music from the restaurant was also playing ("highway to hell"-not kidding!) it was super over stimulating and uncomfortable to say the least. The music died down eventually, but the sun was in our faces for hours. It was hard to look up and we all had to rotate sides to take turns being blinded. A nice see thru shade would have been so helpful. Our waiter was nice but overly chill. He didn't show much emotion or care that we were there. It also took a long time to order and get food. The restaurant wasn't crazy packed btw, it was the event at the grass that caused no parking. Lastly, the food. We had 3 kiddos but no kids meals available. A spaghetti was offered, but we are gluten free. We had to purchase a $40 tri tip to share. The salad I ordered tasted like salt and arugula only...A few peach pieces here and there and the dressing was some sort of cheese that tasted like saltwater. I'm not a picky eater, but this was disappointing. The tri tips were of good size, but just okay. Potatoes were just okay too. I was given a complementary apple donut dessert (which was kind) but tasted no bueno. The jojos ice cream on top was bomb but the chutney underneath was not good and the donut was dry. Overall, highly disappointed with the vibe, taste, and service! I feel like it's suited best for a couple and to come on a quieter night would have made it a better experience. You have no choice but to sit on patio with a party of 7. Will not return - sadly!! (Our $450 bill was also shocking!) one glass of wine ordered...sigh

I think this is a regular occurrence. When the doors open, everyone rushes to get bar seating, which is first come, first served. At the front desk, we checked-in and they sat us at a table in the main dining room. I let it slide since we didn't want to get the Happy Meal anyway, but also wouldn't get any happy hour drink prices. We ordered: * Berry Hot & Bothered - $18 * Societe Bulbous Hazy IPA - $10 * Beef Carpaccio - $29 * Ode-to-Swan - $34 * Johnny Cake & Caviar - $29 * Half-Baked Red Snapper - $48 * Peaches, Peaches, Peaches - $18 * Butter Me Up - $17 The cocktails were fine. Butter Me Up was the best (an espresso martini). The beer was good. The Peaches and Berry drink were very mediocre. Server did get us two small glasses of champagne for our anniversary which was a nice touch. The Beef Carpaccio was amazing. There is a TON of breadcrumbs so if you inhaled, you'll choke. But the flavor was fantastic. Would order again. The Ode-To-Swan reminded me of the Spanish Sashimi at Valentina. Only they put a metric TON of chives on it so you can't even see the fish. This is a huge mistake. The dish was okay but all I tasted was chives. I love sashimi but would not order this again. The Johnny Cake was good but way too sweet! It's basically a thick pancake with caviar on top. The caviar was very savory and the sea bass rillete underneath was smoky. I loved the flavor combination but we could not finish the dish. The half-baked fish was phenomenal. A stunner. Even with the foggy eyeball staring at you. Soo good, I only wished there was more of that sauce on the plate. Even at $50, I would order this again. Total was $270 after tip. They add a 4% surcharge on the bill which is not great. I would come here again but skip the cocktails. Go to SAGO across the street instead for some banger cocktails. Parking was sparse. Street level only. We had to park a block away but the walk was not bad. It was 69° so the weather was perfect. Service was good but our server was clearly trying to get us to order more food. We did not need a second entree or a plate of carrots or potatoes. I would come back, mostly to try new dishes. The food is expensive but interesting in a way you don't know what something will taste like. Please ditch the chives on the sashimi!
