With our little dog in tow, we scored a table at this busy restaurant. We've dined here many times and it's been very good in the past. On this visit we ordered: * Classic Eggs Benedict: $18.75 * Shorehouse Cheese Burger: $17.50 Our waiter was pleasant and brought out a bowl of water for our dog. And considering it was busy, our food arrived quickly. The Eggs Benedict was tasty, the eggs were perfectly poached. The ham was very salty and smoky. The side of potatoes were way too cool. The burger was ordered medium rare, but arrived medium. The roll was too large for the burger. I ate this as an open face sandwich. The side of fries were crispy, but cool. I wouldn't order a burger here again. I do appreciate how dog friendly this place is, they even have a little doggie menu. That said, the noise volume is high, with loud background music and the busy patrons chatting, and potatoes should be warm and fries hot. Overall, it was okay, not great.

Shorehouse is located right in downtown Carlsbad, and it definitely stays busy. I really appreciated that it's family-friendly, and the presentation of the food was great. Service was friendly and accommodating, and even the patrons around us were pleasant. As for the food, it was just okay for me. I ordered their Benedict, which looked beautiful, but the bread was mushy and the flavors didn't come together well. It was disappointing since it's supposed to be their signature dish. My sister ordered the chilaquiles, and that dish was actually really tasty. My son loved their hash browns and the fruits.

I always enjoy dining at Shorehouse. We got lucky one Saturday and didn't have to wait. Normally, we plan ahead and join their waitlist, since they don't allow reservations. The atmosphere is comforting and cozy, making for a relaxing dining experience. My Fruit Granola Yogurt was delicious, and my husband loved his Angus Short Rib & Hash Brown Potato Cakes. I paired mine with fresh orange juice and Sweet Orange Spice Black Tea. They offer loose-leaf teas, which is a nice touch. My husband ordered a tasty black coffee. They even have a dog menu. We've ordered from it in the past, and our fur baby enjoyed the Brunch Bark Bowl. There is a dedicated parking lot for visitors, which is a big plus since most businesses in Carlsbad Village only offer street parking or public lots scattered throughout the area. Come visit them.

this is a sad and jarring tale of two visits. the wife and kid ate here the day before I joined them for a late brunch and raved about the place. totally different experience the very next day. the ROASTED TOMATO and GOAT CHEESE FLATBREAD with sun-dried tomatoes, garlic, pine nuts, fresh basil, mozzarella and parmesan cheese was pretty good. uneven ingredient distribution and most of my slice was crust but when you dine out with a nineteen-year-old boy, the order of the day is the quick and the hungry. had a bite of the wife unit's THAI CHICKEN SALAD (Napa cabbage, romaine, edamame, carrots, celery, bell pepper, peanuts, and cilantro with a sesame-peanut dressing). a sad rendition of one of my favorite salads. flat and flavorless with a definitely not fresh flavor and visual profile. the boy, who raved about the cabernet-braised ANGUS SHORT RIB with hash brown potato cakes and two eggs over easy he'd eaten the day before, waded sullenly through his STEAK FRITES and declared he'd NEVER order that again ... there is absolutely nothing nice to say about my LJ BURGER (Angus ground beef, goat cheese, honey-cured bacon, fig spread, caramelized onions, and arugula with whole-grain dijon) except that it sounded great on paper but was inedible on my plate. ordered medium rare, my burger arrived WAY past done. the meat was dry, dense, tough, and chewy -- easily the worst burger I've ever had. fortunately, SHOREHOUSE KITCHEN has a dog friendly patio and mine ate most of my brunch. truly a nasty experience. the second star's a nod to the fam's eats the day before.

This is one of our favorite go-to places for breakfast/brunch. Been coming for years and service and food are always consistently good. Solid place. Hubby loves their coffee. Sometimes wait time can be long but worth the wait.

I came here for lunch with my work team and we had a fantastic experience! We were seated immediately and the atmosphere was incredible! We were so glad it was sunny outside and it was the perfect costal atmosphere! The food came out super quick and the menu had a variety of everything! Perfect lunch spot!

My wife and I used to love this place, but our last couple of visits have been disappointing. The quality of the food has declined recently. On our most recent visit, I got the black forest ham omelet with hash browns and my wife ordered the egg white and tofu frittata with breakfast potatoes and a fruit cup. The omelet and the frittata were pretty bland and both the hash browns and breakfast potatoes were not crispy and did not taste fresh. The fruit cup was pretty much inedible. The fruit was not fresh, it looked like the fruit had been sitting for a few days and had a funny smell coming from it. We told our server about the fruit cup and he removed it from the bill without us having to ask. Our server was great and was very understanding about the fruit cup. We could tell from his expression that he agreed that a fruit cup of that quality should not have been served. We've usually had no issues here, but the last couple of visits have made us less excited to come back.

The food is good here... the problem they have here is getting people in and out... we added our name to the waitlist on Yelp...thinking it would be quicker... Not so...weekends are no fun here... The Staff is friendly ... and they bring your food out pretty quick... it's just the wait to get In that is frustrating... There is Parking behind the restaurant......

Good place to come if you have lots of time. Order the mango pancakes with granola and guava syrup - very delicious. The pancakes are fluffy, light with lots of mango - the crunch and sweetness from the granola and guava are a perfect combination. We also ordered the short ribs, which were disappointing- a little dry and a small portion on top of a generous serving of hash browns. Nice place on a sunny day - cute outdoor patio that is dog friendly. Thankfully the patio was lovely as we had to wait a lengthy time to both order and receive our food.

Delicious! This was my second time here . I had ordered the maple chicken lettuce wrapped with egg whites with a side of house salad. Others in the party ordered the steak/eggs and Monterey omelet with vanilla bean yogurt. We have enjoyed our food. Service was excellent and Ambiance was like an outdoor patio setting. Benches were a little high for my guests. I also ordered a Kyoto ice coffee. It was ok. I truly enjoyed the food and will come again.

...and yet again, another wonderful dining experience here at Shorehouse Kitchen! Came here for lunch after playing 2 hours of pickleball, so needless to say we came hungry! LOL. As always it was a gorgeous day in Carlsbad, so we opted to sit outside. Still the same awesome service from the moment we were greeted and seated (always plus points for beautiful friendly smiles!). Even though we came at noon, we were still able to order from the breakfast menu! We all knew what we wanted and ordered the Angus Short Rib & Hashbrown Potato Cakes, and the Maple Fried Chicken Breakfast Sandwich, which were all spot on! We enjoyed our meal wholeheartedly and our bellies were happy and full! LOL. CHEERS and happy eating till next time...

    Do they take reservations?

They have a waitlist/queue you can get put on via Yelp to save your place in line. This helps cut the wait. Not sure if you have a larger party (7+) I would call them first

    Is there a kids menu?

    Yes and dog menu:)

What are the vegan brunch items?

They don't have a vegan section on the menu but I'm pretty sure they will accommodate you or customize your order.

Are there a reserved area for costumers who are allergic to dogs?

I'm not 100% sure but I didn't see one. There were quite a few dogs when I've been there in both the La Jolla and Carlsbad locations. However, most of the seating is outside....

Are your cornmeal pancakes gluten-free? Do you have any gluten-free waffles for gluten-free French toast?

Are you taking reservations for Mother's Day?

This restaurant does not take reservations but you can put yourself on the YELP wait list and that helps big time. Just "join" a good hour before you want to be seated, check in in person and you won't have the long wait. Best breakfast ever!!!… Read more

Can we reserve a day or two before?

We did the waitlist on Yelp the same day around 8 am. It ask for our preferred time and party. It gave us out estimated time to check in & number on the list. We got there maybe 10 minutes before our check-in time to notify the hostess. We probably… Read more

Do they have bottomless Mimosas on the weekend?

When I went it wasn't an option.... but maybe they have since added that to the menu.

Do they take reservations for Saturday mornings?

    No they don't

Are they still dog friendly while the Covid restrictions are going on?

    Yes as of 9/21

Are menu items organic or non-GMO?

    Most of them are organic!

Are dogs allowed in the outside seating area?

    Yes they are!

Do they have gluten free options?

Lots of things they serve are naturally gluten free so I usually go that route instead of substitutions. They offer gluten free bread, so anything with bread or toast is covered with a gluten free option there.

Me and my friend opted to share a salad and pasta because we weren't super hungry. We ordered the very fren salad and the Malfadine pasta. The salad was fresh, crisp and had a great flavor. The seeds at times felt like I had them all in my teeth, so needed to do a teeth check afterwards! Haha the pasta is made fresh and was light, but so flavorful. We did not leave a morsel on the plate! I only walked through the inside to find a restroom. It looked like they had a lot of seating for larger parties and a private dining room as well. Super clean, simple design, but felt warm. Wish I lived closer to dine here often, but it's definitely a spot to try if you're in town visiting!

For our first appetizer-type courses, we ordered sliced sourdough with butter and roasted cabbage - both great options. The roasted cabbage ended up being my favorite part of the dinner. It was like a Caesar salad on a juicy, tender cabbage spear with a slight char. I felt like I definitely needed to order some bread to try some element of the bakery. We got another taste of the bakery because we also ordered pizza from the kids menu. I snuck a piece and that was great. We ordered two main courses: one pasta dish and the other was a braised rabbit with morels. The pasta dish was fine but my wife and I weren't planning to share it. We had to share it because the rabbit dish took so long that I had to cancel the order. It was unfortunate because I was really looking forward to that. That was one inconvenience. The other hiccup was they didn't have any beer available because of a cooler issue. They had really good beer on the menu too, so finding that out after I ordered was a let down. I entertained ordering wine or a cocktail afterward, but passed. We were sitting by the bar and the cocktails they were making looked really good. With those issues, the manager spoke with us and sent us home with a slice of lemon meringue pie to rectify. We appreciated the gesture and the service we had all night was good. I'm sure this place gets 5/5 stars most nights. It's a super cool place inside and out.
