I asked for extra feta (and didn't mind paying for it), and they didn't disappoint. No complaints about the food. Now the not-so-great part... The service was slow. Like... noticeably slow. I sat there waiting long enough to start debating if I should just pay for my drink and go somewhere else. Eventually the server showed up, I ordered, and yeah--the food was good, but the wait kind of killed the vibe. What really didn't sit right with me was waiting forever just to get my check. Someone who came in after me got theirs first, and I'm just sitting there like... I have to get to work. We come here pretty regularly and it never disappoints. Food is consistently good, service is quick, and the whole place has a really easy, family friendly vibe. If you happen to get Danielle as your waitress, you're in great hands. She's always attentive, great with kids, and brings a little extra sunshine to the table. Upon entering I was greeted and seated by Aubrey. Not only did she recommend a few items,she was so patient with us as we were still deciding. Gloria came by gave us waters, as we waited for our Mimosas flight. She was happy and full of smiles. I ended up with a bowl of chicken tortilla soup,and hubby had golden fries, steak & Benedict eggs. I wish my bowl was a bit bigger,I was still hungry. Luckily my hubbys plate was huge so he shared! Overall experience, it was great! I know on Sunday,it was packed, but they still gave us great customer service all staff were super friendly from hostess,to waitress,water gal,and bus boy. Employees are given too many jobs and none of them get done well. Server is expected to wait on a dozen tables; do hosting and seating; take payments at the register. Busser doesn't notice empty coffee cups. Food runners bring out 40% of the food correctly. Meanwhile; manager walks around handing out cards for free waffles to make up for the poor service. Everything was pretty good at this Broken Yolk location. We have been to several other locations and this one so far tops them all. Overall, we were satisfied with our visit and would come back again. We decided to give them 4.5 stars (half star deducted based on some minor misses). Read below for a breakdown of our experience at this Carlsbad location. Service: 5 / 5 stars Host was friendly with good energy and who promptly seated us within a minute after arrival. Our server was also friendly and efficient, quick to take our orders and provided us with extra requests. Back kitchen staff were also efficient and promptly brought out our food still warm and fresh. Food and Drink: 4 / 5 stars We ordered two types of short stack pancakes with a protein side. For drinks we ordered one of their winter specialty iced lattes and black coffee. Water glasses were clean and served as requested (iced and no ice). *Banana Pancakes: Fluffy and soft with sliced bananas mixed in the batter and also as a topping along with a small scoop (silver dollar-sized) of whipped dairy topping. *Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: Also fluffy and soft topped with fresh blueberries, lemon slices plus sprinkled with lemon zest and light dusting of confectioner's (powdered) sugar as well as the usual small whipped dairy topping. A short stack has two medium (almost dinner plate-sized) pancakes which was pretty big and impressive; it was satisfyingly tasty. It was unclear if butter was brushed on since we could not taste it, there were no visible pats of butter and none came with it or offered to us. Each pancake dish came with a shot glass-sized syrup (generic and not maple) which was lightly sweet and neutral tasting. The whipped dairy topping did not taste like 100% real whipped cream but rather an alternative (oil based) dairy topping. There was a bottle of sugar-free syrup already on the tabletop along with assorted jams/jelly and the standard sugar packets, salt, pepper and ketchup. *Sides (Standard serving of 2 of each type): Bacon (2 slices) was pretty standard, crisp and almost bordering on chewy; it was not greasy or overly salty. Eggs over easy and poached eggs were perfectly cooked with the yolk still runny. Hash brown was a good portion size and was lightly crisp. Drinks: 4.5 / 5 stars Black coffee came in a standard 8oz ceramic mug and tasted fresh and hot but refilled only when asked. Iced peppermint mocha latte topped with the same whipped dairy topping and chocolate drizzle was a let down and was served with the syrup dripped down the sides making the glass somewhat sticky; it was very light on coffee, mocha or peppermint taste and was much more a watered down latte version. It was very disappointing as this was the drink we were most looking forward to tasting. Unfortunately, we would not order it again...definitely a hard pass. Ambiance: 5 / 5 stars Restaurant was not full although there was a fair amount (almost half) of diners already there and frequent enough coming and going. Noise levels were as expected and nothing was distracting. The space was clean, bright and orderly. Good positive energy by staff all around. Plates, utensils, tables, condiment containers and menu were all clean. We appreciated there were no drips or sticky residue on the ketchup and syrup bottles. read more

As a gluten free eater, you really can't go wrong with a Broken Yolk and the location in Carlsbad is no exception! I highly suggested either the gluten-free pancake or get a gluten-free Belgiun waffle (just let them know if you have sensitivity). There are also omlettes or oatmeal if you're gluten-free. Our experience was awesome from start to finish. Brought my team for a work brunch and we had a great time. The service from our waitress, Andrea, was fantastic! Very good food and service. I had the Golden State eggs Benedict. And they were fantastic. I was warned they were a little spicy with siracha sauce on them although they had a little kick it wasn't too much and added a ton of flavor. Included bacon, tomato, avocado. With as side of Hashbrowns. Server stated, "you want those crispy, right?" And he was spot on. 5/5 Not too busy on a Thursday morning. It was a business breakfast and we stayed for almost 2 hours and never felt rushed. Here we are the Sunday of May, and having breakfast at our favorite spot. They were exceptionally busy this morning, but it is always great to see how the entire staff works as a team to help everybody. It's very apparent that nobody thinks they're above anybody else in their job so everybody chips in to give the customers the best possible service they can. The personal service and experience they give to each customers is one of the main reasons we are here just about every Sunday. The staff is great and then of course we had our favorite waiter Chris. He is a brilliant young man with an excellent personality. And truly, our favorite server that being send the rest of the staff is excellent as well. Was in the area on a trip with my sister. We wanted breakfast. Joined the virtual waitlist on Yelp and only had to wait about 15 minutes for a table on a Saturday. Service was quick and coffee was good. They had a vegan egg scramble which made my day. They used Just Egg, Beyond Sausage, and spinach and mushrooms. Served over sliced potatoes. So so so delicious, I wish every restaurant would understand that you can make good vegan food. I asked them to leave out the bell peppers (don't like them) and the avocado (allergy), and it was not an issue. My sister wasn't feeling well and just wanted plain scrambled eggs and plain white toast, and they were able to accommodate that as well without making us feel like we were too much trouble.
