We come here pretty regularly and it never disappoints. Food is consistently good, service is quick, and the whole place has a really easy, family friendly vibe. If you happen to get Danielle as your waitress, you're in great hands. She's always attentive, great with kids, and brings a little extra sunshine to the table. The food was really good really filling to the point some of us couldn't even finish eating. It was a large group of us and they were able to accommodate seating for us. The location is a corner next to the Starbucks which kinda shadows in "fast food" but it was such a nice start to the morning. I love this place !! My Eggs Benedict was amazing !! Hot and fresh my wives Salmon Benedict was also fresh and hot with crispy hash browns. Our waiter Carlos was amazing and helpful . The manager, a friendly informative woman ( I forget her name sorry. She even helped me download the app so we can earn points towards food, coupons & specials !! Upon entering I was greeted and seated by Aubrey. Not only did she recommend a few items,she was so patient with us as we were still deciding. Gloria came by gave us waters, as we waited for our Mimosas flight. She was happy and full of smiles. I ended up with a bowl of chicken tortilla soup,and hubby had golden fries, steak & Benedict eggs. I wish my bowl was a bit bigger,I was still hungry. Luckily my hubbys plate was huge so he shared! Overall experience, it was great! I know on Sunday,it was packed, but they still gave us great customer service all staff were super friendly from hostess,to waitress,water gal,and bus boy. I have always had a pleasant or better experience at the La Costa restaurant. Weekends you need to set your expectations for a wait during the 9AM-Noon hours. From the host/hostess, to bus staff, to waiter/waitress and manager I have found them to be polite under stress, patient, thoughtful and kind. The new manager Danielle, is my favorite manager to date. She wants everyone to feel welcome and enjoy their experience. Ambience. This location has both inside and outside seating. I prefer inside where the temperature is comfortable and the big windows allow lots of natural light. The newer interior is inviting and during the holidays the restaurant is decorated with tasteful decor. Some visitors post negative comments and I am saddened by them. I believe those that do not understand the restaurant business should do a little research before they are eager to post their uneducated thoughts. Just because you have access to a computer doesn't make you a great reviewer. La Costa Broken Yolk is a well run and fine operation. If it wasn't there would not be so many regulars. Everything was pretty good at this Broken Yolk location. We have been to several other locations and this one so far tops them all. Overall, we were satisfied with our visit and would come back again. We decided to give them 4.5 stars (half star deducted based on some minor misses). Read below for a breakdown of our experience at this Carlsbad location. Service: 5 / 5 stars Host was friendly with good energy and who promptly seated us within a minute after arrival. Our server was also friendly and efficient, quick to take our orders and provided us with extra requests. Back kitchen staff were also efficient and promptly brought out our food still warm and fresh. Food and Drink: 4 / 5 stars We ordered two types of short stack pancakes with a protein side. For drinks we ordered one of their winter specialty iced lattes and black coffee. Water glasses were clean and served as requested (iced and no ice). *Banana Pancakes: Fluffy and soft with sliced bananas mixed in the batter and also as a topping along with a small scoop (silver dollar-sized) of whipped dairy topping. *Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: Also fluffy and soft topped with fresh blueberries, lemon slices plus sprinkled with lemon zest and light dusting of confectioner's (powdered) sugar as well as the usual small whipped dairy topping. A short stack has two medium (almost dinner plate-sized) pancakes which was pretty big and impressive; it was satisfyingly tasty. It was unclear if butter was brushed on since we could not taste it, there were no visible pats of butter and none came with it or offered to us. Each pancake dish came with a shot glass-sized syrup (generic and not maple) which was lightly sweet and neutral tasting. The whipped dairy topping did not taste like 100% real whipped cream but rather an alternative (oil based) dairy topping. There was a bottle of sugar-free syrup already on the tabletop along with assorted jams/jelly and the standard sugar packets, salt, pepper and ketchup. *Sides (Standard serving of 2 of each type): Bacon (2 slices) was pretty standard, crisp and almost bordering on chewy; it was not greasy or overly salty. Eggs over easy and poached eggs were perfectly cooked with the yolk still runny. Hash brown was a good portion size and was lightly crisp. Drinks: 4.5 / 5 stars Black coffee came in a standard 8oz ceramic mug and tasted fresh and hot but refilled only when asked. Iced peppermint mocha latte topped with the same whipped dairy topping and chocolate drizzle was a let down and was served with the syrup dripped down the sides making the glass somewhat sticky; it was very light on coffee, mocha or peppermint taste and was much more a watered down latte version. It was very disappointing as this was the drink we were most looking forward to tasting. Unfortunately, we would not order it again...definitely a hard pass. Ambiance: 5 / 5 stars Restaurant was not full although there was a fair amount (almost half) of diners already there and frequent enough coming and going. Noise levels were as expected and nothing was distracting. The space was clean, bright and orderly. Good positive energy by staff all around. Plates, utensils, tables, condiment containers and menu were all clean. We appreciated there were no drips or sticky residue on the ketchup and syrup bottles. read more

As a gluten free eater, you really can't go wrong with a Broken Yolk and the location in Carlsbad is no exception! I highly suggested either the gluten-free pancake or get a gluten-free Belgiun waffle (just let them know if you have sensitivity). There are also omlettes or oatmeal if you're gluten-free. Our experience was awesome from start to finish. Brought my team for a work brunch and we had a great time. The service from our waitress, Andrea, was fantastic! She handled my gluten-free Belgium waffle order with grace. My coworkers' food also looked delicious. We were even greeted by the owner! If you haven't been to a Broken Yolk in a while, I couldn't recommend this location more for both yummy brunch and lovely service. read more

I was warned they were a little spicy with siracha sauce on them although they had a little kick it wasn't too much and added a ton of flavor. Included bacon, tomato, avocado. With as side of Hashbrowns. Server stated, "you want those crispy, right?" And he was spot on. 5/5 Not too busy on a Thursday morning. It was a business breakfast and we stayed for almost 2 hours and never felt rushed. Such a great find! We are visiting and heading North back home and came across the Broken Yoke Cafe in Carlsbad. We were immediately greeted and seated by the hostess...super sweet and welcoming. I love the patriotic decor, all ready for the 4th of July. Fun, comfortable environment. Our waiter tended to us quickly, making excellent recommendations. The food came out quickly and hot...so delicious! Loved the mom's omelette and cinnacakes pancakes. Our waiter, Carlos, was so nice, attentive and sent me off with a to go cup of my coffee.
