I add cheddar and avocado. I'm lucky to eat 3/4. Usually only half. Their hashbrowns are always perfect. You can get bloodies but they use sochu instead of vodka. I dont frequent broken yolk often. But I have been here a few times, and both times made me feel good about coming back. I know everyone's experience is different...and I did witness customers having issues both times I went. But that doesnt take away from the fact that both of my visits were great. Everytime I have been in, the waitstaff were always kind and in a positive mood. My order was taken promptly and my food was delivered in a timely manner. There is chicken fried steak on the menu and that is one of my weaknesses. There version is tasty. It's not the best I have had, but I would get it again. This last visit I noticed they had machaca on the menu. I was able to order it, and I will not be ordering chicken fried steak anymore! The eggs and beef were perfectly mixed together...and, with the added onions and tomatoes, it was very delicious. I chose to order the dish without the peppers, and it was perfect for me. Mix in the spanish rice and the beans....and it makes for a tasty bite to wrap in your provided tortillas. The plate also comes with pico...but it doesnt even need it. Yes, as you proabably have guessed, this is a non spicy version of machaca, but it is still very flavorful and yummy. No one at the front desk to greet me, so I stood around watching lots of servers scurrying about. No waiting list, as the place was about half full on a Tuesday late morning. There's lots of indoor and limited outdoor seating. My table wasn't set, so someone came with my utensils after I ordered. The menu is comprehensive with all my breakfast favorites. For my 62nd birthday, I ordered the vegetarian Mom omelette with home fries and a buttermilk biscuit. The biscuit and whipped butter were heavenly. The home fries were very thinly sliced rounds, not the cubes that home fries typically are shaped in. They were greasy and not crispy. I very much did not like them. It's really hard to make a veggie omelette that doesn't completely fall apart, and this one did, struggling to contain all the veggies. The menu doesn't specify whether the omelettes have two or three eggs, and I suspect it's the former. It was extremely thin and slippery. Some cheese would have improved it greatly. Four different employees served me during my short visit, which makes it really hard to coordinate customer satisfaction. My putative server asked me how everything was, and then another person came by 10 seconds later and asked me how everything was. I paid by scanning a QR code, which I appreciate. Gloria came by gave us waters, as we waited for our Mimosas flight. She was happy and full of smiles. I love this place !! My Eggs Benedict was amazing !! Hot and fresh my wives Salmon Benedict was also fresh and hot with crispy hash browns. Our waiter Carlos was amazing and helpful . The food was really good really filling to the point some of us couldn't even finish eating. It was a large group of us and they were able to accommodate seating for us. The location is a corner next to the Starbucks which kinda shadows in "fast food" but it was such a nice start to the morning. Horrible, horrible service from the moment we walked in. The waiter was atrocious. He barely acknowledged us. When he finally cared to come over, he just walked up with a pad in his hand and looked at me, waiting for my order. It was bizarre. He never checked on us again. Good thing we didn't want more than water or need anything else. The whole time we were there, we felt like we were invisible. Everything was pretty good at this Broken Yolk location. We have been to several other locations and this one so far tops them all. Overall, we were satisfied with our visit and would come back again. We decided to give them 4.5 stars (half star deducted based on some minor misses). Read below for a breakdown of our experience at this Carlsbad location. Service: 5 / 5 stars Host was friendly with good energy and who promptly seated us within a minute after arrival. Our server was also friendly and efficient, quick to take our orders and provided us with extra requests. Back kitchen staff were also efficient and promptly brought out our food still warm and fresh. Food and Drink: 4 / 5 stars We ordered two types of short stack pancakes with a protein side. For drinks we ordered one of their winter specialty iced lattes and black coffee. Water glasses were clean and served as requested (iced and no ice). *Banana Pancakes: Fluffy and soft with sliced bananas mixed in the batter and also as a topping along with a small scoop (silver dollar-sized) of whipped dairy topping. *Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: Also fluffy and soft topped with fresh blueberries, lemon slices plus sprinkled with lemon zest and light dusting of confectioner's (powdered) sugar as well as the usual small whipped dairy topping. A short stack has two medium (almost dinner plate-sized) pancakes which was pretty big and impressive; it was satisfyingly tasty. It was unclear if butter was brushed on since we could not taste it, there were no visible pats of butter and none came with it or offered to us. Each pancake dish came with a shot glass-sized syrup (generic and not maple) which was lightly sweet and neutral tasting. The whipped dairy topping did not taste like 100% real whipped cream but rather an alternative (oil based) dairy topping. There was a bottle of sugar-free syrup already on the tabletop along with assorted jams/jelly and the standard sugar packets, salt, pepper and ketchup. *Sides (Standard serving of 2 of each type): Bacon (2 slices) was pretty standard, crisp and almost bordering on chewy; it was not greasy or overly salty. Eggs over easy and poached eggs were perfectly cooked with the yolk still runny. Hash brown was a good portion size and was lightly crisp. Drinks: 4.5 / 5 stars Black coffee came in a standard 8oz ceramic mug and tasted fresh and hot but refilled only when asked. Iced peppermint mocha latte topped with the same whipped dairy topping and chocolate drizzle was a let down and was served with the syrup dripped down the sides making the glass somewhat sticky; it was very light on coffee, mocha or peppermint taste and was much more a watered down latte version. It was very disappointing as this was the drink we were most looking forward to tasting. Unfortunately, we would not order it again...definitely a hard pass. Ambiance: 5 / 5 stars Restaurant was not full although there was a fair amount (almost half) of diners already there and frequent enough coming and going. Noise levels were as expected and nothing was distracting. The space was clean, bright and orderly. Good positive energy by staff all around. Plates, utensils, tables, condiment containers and menu were all clean. We appreciated there were no drips or sticky residue on the ketchup and syrup bottles. read more
