Friends invited me to meet them for dinner. I had been to this location when it was seafire and enjoyed it, so I was curious to try the new (to me) restaurant. It wasn't very busy and there was live music. We sat immediately and looked through the menu. I went with the Reuben. Others in our party got a French dip, fried zucchini spears, fries, and a burger. The Reuben was really salty but it tasted okay. The meat was a bit skimpy and I had to ask for more sauerkraut because there were just a few strands on it. The zucchini was good and so were the fries. I didn't try anything else. Our server was also the bartender and it seemed he had a lot to do. I did have to flag him down for water and extra sauerkraut, but he seemed happy to oblige. It was a nice night. I would come here again but try something different. read more

While in the area decided to have breakfast and wanted to try somewhere we hadn't been to before. Found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. We got there and fortunately it wasn't too crowded. We were immediately greeted and welcomed by a woman who ended up being our server. She was awesome. We were given the option to sit where we wanted. We chose a booth but they also had tables or seating at the bar. Good size menu with plenty of breakfast and lunch/dinner choices. I went with the breakfast quesadilla with carnitas as the meat choice and my daughter got the Cowboy Benedict. Both dishes were very good and would get them again though the next time I go I'll probably try something else only because they had a few items that sounded tasty. Our only negative was they serve Pepsi products instead of Coke. It's those little things but it won't stop us from going back. It you're in the area I'd recommend giving this place a try. read more

Maybe she had a bad day and was upset, but it seemed she was aggravated. She sat us and left and didn't come back. The table had some crumbs on it. No napkins on tables so I couldn't even clean it myself. Dining area was empty. Completely empty but 4 or 5 ppl were at the bar. A man came, was really nice and polite but must have just got back from a smoke break. He was so polite and was there for such a short time, was no need to say anything. My daughter and I are allergic, she wasn't close to him and I just ordered fast. So not really an issue. We ordered and he left. Took a while but eventually the food came. Kids meal looked great. Kraft Mac n cheese was as it is in all restaurants, Kraft tasting. My girl loved it. She's a huge Kraft Mac n cheese fan. We stopped getting it years ago because we eat healthy at home but while out we let the kids choose, it's like a little treat while out. She opted for fruit and it looked good but unfortunately it was slimy, I tried it and it had something added to it, it was slimy indeed, we didn't eat it, plus milk was warm, so gross but eventually the gentleman returned and we asked if we could switch milk for juice instead and he was fine with that. Apple juice was fine. No refills though. He didn't return for refills. Hamburger was decent. Asked for them to not have creams nor sauce, just plain cheese, tomato, lettuce and Mayo on side, but they still put the sauce on them. Thankfully the sauce wasn't too bad so we ate without complaint because we were hungry. Tomatoes were incredibly thick. I didn't mind but you may. Crab cakes were weird. Tasted frozen, thawed in microwave, mushy. Zero crisp to the crust. Mushy n soggy. Avoid the Crab cakes. Served on liquidy slaw. It had an Off flavor. Two bites in, I decided this will get one sick. So I didn't try more. We never saw the lady again and the man wasn't seen but when he brought the food, not sure where they went or who was serving at the bar but it was such an odd atmosphere. The coupon shows it as a restaurant but don't trust the photos, it's as the name suggests, a bar but I doubt that grill part, the food all seemed nuked. Nothing was grilled. Even though they have a restaurant area, it was deserted and rightly so. The gentleman I'd imagine is a great bartender, I don't drink so I guess I'm not the best to say, but the few moments with us he was friendly and respectful, but we waited a LONG time for our food and then even longer for the bill. So maybe he was bartending out of sight. Seems only the lady that never returned to the restaurant and the man that was mostly out of sight the whole time were it. The worse part of the lunch... Lipstick on water cups! Gross! So gross. The cup also had a smudge of something on it and I didn't want to guess what it could be. Definitely not a repeat place. Lady not welcoming, customers are forgotten, frozen/box to microwave food. Place wasn't clean, dishes not clean. Hamburger edible when really hungry, Kraft fine for kiddos, but not worth the risk when seeing how dirty things were. read more

Good food, good value and great service! Went on Mother's Day for breakfast and it was nice not to have to wait and was seated right away. Jason, who also bartends, served us and he was great! He was very friendly & efficient. We ordered the French toast combo and the Mainstream breakfast. Food came out in a timely manner and each dish did not disappoint. We thoroughly enjoyed our meals. They have their own parking lot in front of the restaurant. We went for a late lunch and we were acknowledged immediately. It is free seating. And they let us know the moment we stepped in. There is seating available both inside and outside. Just a point to note: The seating is pretty close together. So if there was a party that is very loud. Their chatter/ laughter can reverberate and echo and still be an annoyance. The server was wonderful. We had initially picked a seat inside but due to the loud chatter from a neighbouring table, we moved to the patio and I was glad we did. We got served immediately after we sat down. We ordered a strawberry margarita for me and a blonde ale for the hubs. Drinks came within 5 minutes. She gave us a bit of time and circled back around to check on us. Repeat customer here. Given the consistency of the food, service, ambiance & value, this establishment was due for a review. Jason has been our server/host the last two visits. He is a pleasant gentleman who can masterfully offer great service and friendly conversation while serving about Six occupied tables and a bar! He can carry a pleasant convo with families with young kids on their way to Legoland, older fellas stopping in for a bite and local couples having a casual meal post-church. Jason's excellent service is coupled with a nice menu at reasonable prices. I had the Mainstream Breakfast with the eggs (3), bacon, and pancakes. I had the same order the last two times, because I had to confirm what I am about to opine here...The Mainstream Pancakes are better than the pancakes at the Village Pie Shop...As an old POTUS would say: "No Joke!" Came for trivia on a Tuesday night. They do have good happy hour specials. We ordered cheese sticks, fried zucchini, fish sandwich, fiesta salad and wings. Food was 3*. Fish was bland and tasted a little too fishy. Fried zucchini was actually very tasty with a beer batter. Cheese sticks were very heavily coated with thyme breading. Also all side are served in these disposable plastic cups. There's got to be a better way to do that. Wings were tasty but so little. My salad was good. They do have good beer and good tequila. Bartender did special make my margarita and it was tasty. Service was not great. She was very nice but we had to keep getting up to get things and often couldn't find her to order another drink. read more

We have always loved this restaurant, taken relatives there, and been there twice with a large group. Always pleased with food, service and Jason. Today had breakfast there around 11:30 a.m., walked in and no one greeted us, but there was quite a group sitting around the bar talking loudly. Finally, Jason did appear and remembered us after we talked a bit. The food was excellent as always, but the ambiance is not the same as when they first took over. I know they can't survive with just the crowd at the bar. The floors need to be redone and the windows need a good wash. I don't know why I've given this place 3 chances. 2 at the Poway location and one in Carlsbad. Their food is just horrible. It doesn't taste good, ether super bland or overly spiced. Their tortilla chips are stale, their "guac" I'm pretty sure is green squash that restaurants cheap out on in place of avocado. The food comes out barely warm most times. I couldn't even take more than 3 bites of my meal, it came home and got thrown in the trash. I don't imagine they will last long in Carlsbad. read more

Friday Happy Hour at this recently opened offshoot of the Mainstream Bar in Poway is an unassuming gathering place to meet friends or go solo! The ambiance was cozy and the duo guitar and singer played a nice selection of relaxing blues and mellow tunes that don't drown out conversation. These pics look great, but if you look at the corned beef hash, it was just little sprinkles of dry meat on top of the hash browns and really not any underneath like you would expect. Eggs were ok. Sausage gravy was ok. The biscuit came out piping hot and I was hopeful. Unfortunately it was super hard, like if they had re warmed up an old biscuit maybe from yesterday. I came in for my second visit this week. My first visit was lackluster. This visit was bad, so I just left. My first visit was shortly after they opened. The gentleman behind the bar was from their other restaurant and was a bit "rough". He definitely did not seem happy to be there. My colleague and I ordered a couple drinks When we asked if there was a Happy Hour, the response was an indignant "we do 2 for 1 on this list", while tossing menu at us. We ordered nachos and jumbo shrimp. Stick with the nachos if you must choose. The shrimp was lame and the nachos were just ok. When I asked if any of the beers were on happy hour, the guys barks "no". No big deal -just could have been more polite. I got off work this week after a long day and thought I'd give it another shot. It's convenient to my office and KNEW I'd have a better experience. Ha. I was wrong. Same bartender. Same attitude. An older gentleman asked if a particular person was working that night. The way the bartender responded was simply not nice. Poor demeanor. Poor tone. All wrong. This visit, I ordered a Sculpin and the menu. The place was teaming with fruit flies. I was afraid to breathe in. AND, the Sculpin was 100% flat. It was a terrible beer. I texted my buddy who has been here a few times. He said he was here the day before and the fruit flies were bad then too. I decided to eat elsewhere. I didn't want to compete with the fruit flies over my flat beer and dinner. I was hoping the new owners would put a little pizzaz in to the place. So-so food. Flat beer. Now throw in a bartender who doesn't make you feel welcome, and you have a recipe for another unsuccessful restaurant. I was definitely hoping for better. read more
