What an adorable little hidden gem! Came here for the chilaquiles, and I was so impressed! I got the poblano version. The chips were perfectly cooked, and there was an abundance of delicious poblano sauce. Everything is made in house, so fresh and so delicious. Salsas were spot on and added the perfect kick to the meal. We also got the poblano omelette, and it was fantastic. The house potatoes were good. Also ordered the cafe de olla, which brought me right back to Mexico, it was perfect. Service is great, you do order at the counter, which takes away a little of the restaurant experience, but they bring your food out, and are attentive throughout your meal. The owner even came out and shared her journey about the restaurant, and she was so kind and lovely! The decorations inside are beautiful, makes you feel like you're in a cafe in Mexico! Newly opened summer 2026, this casual restaurant has good food. The decor is on trend, clean. The staff was friendly and welcoming. We ordered at the counter and then they bring the food. The Benedict Toast was great. I thought the bacon should be more cooked. The staff actually came and checked on us and asked how our meal was and I let them know. I had the honor of accompanying a bunch of gals in Gals That Brunch @galsthatbrunch @galsthatbrunchsd I have had my eye on Carlotta's since they were breaking ground and jumped with joy when I had the opportunity to have brunch there with the gals. The ambiance is lovely and colorful. The menu features both savory and sweet with also a healthy twist. The two best friends, Mayra and Karina, have been best friends since kindergarten! They shared their dreams of food and flavors. "Carlotta" is a name of a Mexican dessert that is indescribable. The menu includes dishes like chilaquiles and tres leches French toast! They offer a good amount of seating for a friend or two or even a group. Everything was delicious and the presentation was brilliant! I was truly impressed with the quality, minimal wait, and quantity of the dishes. We tasted the various muffins, bread, and jam. Carlotta caters and offers food to go. First customer and already a fan! I had the pleasure of being Carlotta's very first customer, and what a first impression. I popped in while my daughter was at her gymnastics lesson next door, and I'm so glad I did. I started with the breakfast burrito and a coffee, and it was outstanding. Genuinely one of the best I've had, packed with flavor and clearly made with care. The coffee was excellent too. Beyond the food, the interior design blew me away. It's warm, beautifully thought out, and the kind of space you actually want to linger in. The customer service was incredible from the moment I walked in, friendly, attentive, and welcoming in a way you don't always find. I liked it so much I grabbed the huevos rancheros to go for my wife, and she absolutely loved them. My daughter rounded things out with a banana bread chocolate muffin and a fresh squeezed orange juice, and both were a huge hit with her. A perfect breakfast spot for the whole family. I went into Carlotta Brunch today and, unfortunately, I left pretty disappointed. The menu is fairly small and focused mostly on breakfast items. I ordered the breakfast burrito for $15.95. It was a basic bacon, egg, cheese, and potato burrito, and for that price I expected considerably more. The burrito was pretty meager, the potatoes weren't particularly good, and nothing about the ingredients struck me as premium enough to justify the price. The chipotle sauce was served on the side, which also seemed odd for a breakfast burrito. If you want the sauce incorporated into the burrito, you basically have to open it up and do it yourself. There are simply better breakfast burritos available locally for less money. I've had much larger and better breakfast burritos at other places for around $9-$12. But what really bothered me was the added 3% credit-card fee. So after paying $15.95 for a fairly ordinary breakfast burrito, there's another 3% fee added, tax applies to the transaction, and then the checkout screen suggests tips starting around 20% and going higher. For a takeout order, that starts to feel like getting nickel-and-dimed. I don't mind paying good money for good food. But if you're charging nearly $16 for a breakfast burrito, the food needs to deliver the quality and value to justify it. This one didn't. Service wasn't especially fast either, despite there only being a couple of other tables occupied when I was there. And they don't open until 8:00 a.m., which seems like another strange choice for a business centered around breakfast and brunch. For me, the combination of the price, portion, average quality, credit-card surcharge, and aggressive tip suggestions makes this an easy pass. There are too many better breakfast options nearby offering better food and better value. I won't be back. read more

Oh my gosh, happened here on the opening day and it was amazing. Great eclectic menu without being a hodgepodge. The space is beautiful and welcoming. Ordered the chilaquiles on the owner's recommendation and holy hell they were great. Did half mole, half verde. They came on a bed of delicious black beans, and were topped with pickled onions, sour cream, and a little extra tasty bits. Next time I'll add in some eggs. My son got the apple waffle and it was a hit. Fresh squeeze orange juice rounded out our first meal. We will definitely be back. read more

I recently dined at Carlotta for Father's Day and I was very impressed. The menu has a good array of California/Mexican breakfast options. We got the Avocado Toast, French Toast, and Protein Omelette. I thought the portions were great and my kids loved the French toast. The staff were very nice and accommodating as well. I just had lunch today with a friend at Carlotta and oh my goodness it is a fabulous local restaurant for breakfast and lunch. I had a Benedict toast that was the best eggs Benedict I ever have had. And their coffee is in a soup size coffee cup, and it was wonderful also. They have a small bakery area with freshly made baked goods. Seating is either inside or outside and it was lovely outside today. One of the best breakfast/lunch places I've eaten at and I can't wait to go back to try their trail chase French toast. 5+ stars. read more

Exceptional addition to the neighborhood. The food far exceeded our expectations and was on par with some of the best breakfast that we've had in San Diego. The fruit bowl was beautiful and substantial, with half a dozen different fruits, yogurt, granola, all homemade. The French toast was the highlight of the meal and was as good as we've had anywhere. My husband loved the French toast which was sweet (as the menu stated) & I enjoyed the mushroom toast (the leeks are amazing). Both were beautiful presented and ample servings. I would suggest they offer one standard dish like scrambled eggs in case you have someone with you that just isn't interested in a memorable dish (like a child).
