Came here for Sunday breakfast and had such a good experience! We got here around 9am and surprisingly had no wait. The seating was spacious and comfortable, and the service was great throughout. We tried the goat cheese & spinach quiche, summer salad, crème brûlée, and lemon meringue tart. The quiche was probably my favorite savory item -- super thick and fluffy with a generous piece of goat cheese on top, and the roasted potatoes on the side were really good too. The summer salad was fresh and loaded with smoked salmon, avocado, mango, and pistachios. Definitely save room for dessert. The crème brûlée had that perfect crunchy caramelized top, and the lemon meringue tart was really cute and had a nice balance of tart and sweet. I love the wide variety pastry selection and how pretty everything looks in the display case. Such a cute place! Came here for some brunch before heading to the Botanical Gardens. We stood in line to get in for about 10 minutes-it's definitely a busy place and probably could get busier! Service was good, but again they were busy...food was great! This was our first time here and we didn't get to try the pastries, but they look very promising. What a lovely place set in a strip mall area of Encinitas! I was on the hunt for a good French pastry but this place went way above and beyond my expectations. First of all, the service was outstanding. Kind waiter, friendly table side courtesy, and frequent check ins throughout the visit. Secondly, the menu has serious range... from Benedict sandwiches to omelets to crepes and so much more. Get your French food fix here! Went to Versaille for the first time a few days ago. It was on a Saturday morning. My friend and I were concerned it'd be super busy so we got there at 9am. Well, we not only got a comfy seat, but it never got completely full. Sure there were people in line for pastries, but they took to go. We stayed till 10:30 and it never got crazy busy. Yay! This review is mostly for the experience. I didn't want a huge breakfast, so asked if I could just order toast and a couple eggs. They were great about this and charged me fairly. I also got a vanilla latte, which was great. We mostly wanted to spend time together in a comfy, not crazy-busy place. That's hard to find on a Saturday morning. But we found this gem and it was perfect. The decor was cute, very pink and had the British Baking Show on the huge TV the whole time. Haha, it was so funny ... there wasn't sound, so it wasn't distracting. Kinda added to the vibe. The servers were great - any of them at any time would take our order, answer questions or bring our food. It didn't matter. They were all helpful and aware. There's outdoor seating as well. Went on Sunday for a fantastic lunch. My husband had the soup and sandwich combo. No leftovers for him. I had the Versailles salad which was probably the best salad I've had in recent memory. So many wonderful ingredients...it was like Christmas in a salad bowl. Very generous serving and I can't wait to have the leftovers for lunch today. I wish I could give 0 stars... I had high hopes for this place because the food looked really good, but unfortunately we didn't even make it to ordering. We initially asked to be seated outside, but the first thing we noticed was an extremely pungent rotten-egg smell. It was so bad that we asked to move inside. Even after being seated indoors, we could still smell it coming from outside. Then we were served water. My boyfriend and I both took a sip and immediately noticed that it tasted absolutely disgusting. It's hard to even describe almost bitter, with a really unpleasant aftertaste. We asked the manager why the water tasted like that, and we were told it was "slightly filtered," whatever that's supposed to mean. They offered us bottled water instead, so I asked if we would have to pay for it. Of course, the answer was yes. What really bothered me was that this was followed up with, "Well, there's nothing we can do about the water." If the tap water being served to customers tastes so bad that even the staff acknowledges there's nothing they can do about it, I don't think customers should have to pay extra just to get drinkable bottled water. And on top of all of that, they also add an additional $2-$3 fee to your bill for "extra plates". Needless to say, this was an extremely disappointing experience, especially considering how excited we were to try the food. read more

It had caramelizad onions and a perfectly poached egg on it. The fruit cup was a a great selection and very fresh. The mocha was great too! We met a friend here for a weekday brunch. With a choice of indoor and outdoor seating, we opted for a table on the patio, which overlooks the parking lot. I started with a croissant (2/5) and coffee (4/5), like I would do in Paris. Sadly, the croissant fell short -- warm but soft, not crispy. For brunch, we had: Normand Eggs Benedict (3/5) -- Smoked salmon, two poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce on English muffin, with tomato and potatoes (3/5). The eggs were poached hard. ($20) Quiche Lorrain (4/5) -- This classic French egg dish, made with ham and Swiss cheese, is a favorite of mine. Versailles did a very good job, and the portion served was generous. It was served with a side salad of mixed greens with a nice vinaigrette dressing (4/5). ($18) Service was slow, maybe because we were the only ones dining on the patio. Coffee refills were slow in coming. A negative for the patio is the traffic noise from El Camino Real. read more

This spot is so cute! Initially I was a little nervous because I'm all sure we've all experienced a cute spot, but the food was mid at best. I'm so glad this spot was both cute AND the food was delicious. Came in this morning for breakfast with my girlfriend because we saw the food on yelp and it looked good. We sat outside and after 2 minutes got up and asked our waitress if we could move inside because it smelled like rotten eggs. Inside was not much better as the wind blew a slight bit of the smell in. Once we were inside we were given water and ordered our food and coffee. After drinking the water both myself and my girlfriend noticed a bitter taste followed by a nasty aftertaste. We brought it up to the attention of another server and she asked if we would like bottled water or sparkling but it was going to be another charge. My girlfriend and I thought that was ridiculous because we both noticed that our water taste terrible and instead of making it right and offering the bottled water complimentary she said theres nothing she can do about it. We told our waitress just to cancel our order and walked out after the frustration of the smell and the water where she sarcastically replied with a "bye bye". Really horrible experience, was looking foward to the place because the food and croissants actually looked good. read more

The good: great pastries and croissants. Food is good too. The Bad: terrible service if you decide to dine-in and order at your table. This is not a one-time occurrence either. Been here 3 -5 times in the past 2 months. Today was the topper though. They gave us menus when we walked in and despite 3 different employees walking right by, over a 10 minute period, none of them acknowledged us. Not even the server serving the table right next to us. So I get up and walk to the register where 3 employees are hovering around the front counter, nobody really doing anything that seemed urgent. I let them know we've been sitting and waiting for a good 10 min plus for someone to take our order. Gal at counter took my drink order and says someone will take my order when they bring my cappuccinos. Great, I guess we'll be waiting another 5 or so minutes to place our order. Once they took our order, food came out in a reasonable time but that was it. No checking back with us or any of the standard sit-down restaurant service. I even had to go up to register to grab my check. It's a shame a restaurant with better than average food can't perform average customer service. Pastries are solid 4.5 stars but I am giving 2 stars to see if we get the attention of the owners/management. PS. There was lipstick on my coffee cup too. read more

Versailles Café is such a charming gem in Encinitas! I stopped by for breakfast and had the Florentine omelette along with a blueberry tart, and everything was absolutely spot on. The omelette was perfectly cooked -- not runny, but more on the well-done side, just how I like it -- and generously packed with fresh spinach and mushrooms. It came with a side of fresh fruit that was actually fresh (not the usual mushy kind you sometimes get elsewhere), and every bite tasted bright and delicious. The blueberry tart was the perfect finish -- lightly sweet, with berries that were perfectly ripe and bursting with flavor. You can really taste the care that goes into their pastries. This place has THE BEST raspberry tart ive ever tasted in my LIFE. I'd go out of my way to get it. Its got fresh berries on top & its filled with what tasted like creme brulee to me! So fancy and so so worth the price. The crust also held up the whole way; it didnt fall apart and dump custard everywhere on the plate. THAT is the mark of a good tart. My mom had the quiche lorraine and she enjoyed it! The brie was incredible. I had a sadly disappointing chicken sandwich. The bread was amazing and i ended up getting some (french!) butter which was delish and just eating the bread. The chicken kinda tasted funny to me. It was good with some of my mom's brie on it tho haha I would absolutely come back here and maybe get breakfast because someone next to us got french toast and i almost ran over there to eat it myself. They have quite a selection of pastries. The decor is adorable: pink and fresh flowers! Very cute and fun. I will be honest- first time going to this establishment. I had driven by lots of times always busy. I stopped by today walked in, had no idea if i could just sit at a table, wait to be seated or if i had to order at the counter and then look for seating as some establishments have this kind if seating. There were not signs, so i just got in line to order, at the register i gave my order- no clear menus for food in site- even the lady behind me asked me, i told her im using my phone to see the online menu, once i got to the counter the individual asked "your getting your french toast to go? Or wait are you at a table already" i thought it odd, i confirmed i was eating at a table or counter just had not picked it out yet. Then thats when i noticed other people just as confused as me. I went to the counter with my number. I started to notice that people already sitting and eating were being brought their check. And their orders being taken. So then it clicked- counter is for to go, if you dine in just sit at a table or counter and wait for someone to notice to take your order. Over all the food is good the macchiato was fantastic just confusing as a first timer going in. 4 stars Tried this French bakery with my whole family--my parents, younger sister, and my immediate crew. Overall, nothing was bad about the place. Everything tasted good, the service was fine, and the space had a really pleasant, clean, and breezy California vibe. The big front windows were open, and we enjoyed sitting outside. I had what I believe was a special--a Parmesan chicken sandwich. The chicken had a European feel to it, almost like a Czech-style preparation, and it was tasty. That said, I felt like it was missing something--maybe a sauce or extra punch of flavor to really make it pop. We also got one of their rose desserts to go, which was visually beautiful and delicate. My mom didn't love her sandwich though--she mentioned that the baguettes can be hit or miss in terms of freshness, depending on the day. My husband and I like the pastries and food here but not so much with their service. We're waiting to be seated and a number of wait staff walked by without acknowledging us or said, "someone will be with you shortly." They looked at us and walked on by. To us, this is bad training. Even if it is not their job to lead customers to a table, they should acknowledge people who are waiting. When I brought it up while I was paying, I did what their bill said, to tell them how they can improve, the lady at the check out just said sorry, we're busy today rather than acknowledging the misstep or thanking us for bringing it to their attention. If you didn't want to hear how you can improve, don't out it in the bill. Also, yes, there were busy but the restaurant was not full inside or outside. Our first visit to this outstanding French themed restaurant and bakery for lunch was a worthwhile trip from Oceanside. The Croque Monsieur and the Ham and Swiss Croissant were both excellent with high quality ingredients and the side selections were also very tasty. We also purchased several tarts and pastries to enjoy later in the day. We will return to this restaurant to try the great variety of breakfast options.. Great first experience! This cafe was in my to-try list and a couple days ago I had to go to that area and was the perfect occasion... especially because it was hailing! Yes, hailing in Encinitas! Nothing like finding Versailles when doing a search on Yelp and finding that not only they have excellent coffee, but the number of pastries is just amazing. The restaurant is cozy, cute, and welcoming. I like the Eiffel tower decor so brings us a little bit of Paris in SoCal, why not? I had a perfect cappuccino and an oranais, which is one of those flakey pastry with cheese and apricot or peach. Super delicious, can't wait to go back again and get some to bring home for next day too! We came here around noon and it was crowded inside. We decided to sit on the patio which was super cute. The tables had light pink placemats with a lovely texture to them. The tables and chairs looked very parisien. It's been 1 year since I've been here and the prices have went up slightly, but it is still so much better than other French Patisseries/Cafes! The ginger haired worker allowed us to order at the counter where we got our Oranais (an apricot pastry $6) & the Pain Aux Raisins (a raisin roll $6). He was welcoming and kind. The Oranais aux abricots is a pastry that I haven't had before. It's a new favorite!! The pastry is cooked perfectly and probably has an apricot glaze on top for that beautiful shine. The apricots are plump and sweet, not grainy or soggy. The pastry cream is smooth and delicious too. The pastry has beautiful layers as well! This time they didn't ask if we wanted the pain aux raisins to be warmed up, but it's ok. It was as big as the plate and had ample amounts of raisins. I love the depth of flavor the raisins had. It was beautifully caramelized and had a lovely shine to the top. A very delicious pastry that is big enough to share. I highly recommend this spot! I was shopping at TJMAXX  in El Camino Promenade, then on my way out I saw Versailles Cafe and pastries. I decided to go with my family to have some French pastries. I was very impressed with the beauty of the place and the qualities of the pastries and the desserts they have. We ordered many pastries and desserts to try there and took some to our hotel, we got; -Oranais Apricot Croissant - Chocolate Eclair - Raspberry Eclair - Vanilla Eclair - Royal - Spring Blossom - Coconut Macarons Everything was exquisite. The service was top notch. The vibe was charming and relaxing. We hadn't had the chance to try their sandwiches in the first visit.We stopped again for two consecutive days to try their sandwiches and more pastries. For the next visits, we ordered for lunch; -Parisian sandwich with salad -Veggie sandwich with fries -Croque Monsieur with salad -Vanilla eclair -2 iced raspberry truffle lattes Then, we also got some desserts to go: - Pear Tartlet - Pistachio Cloud - Chocolate Eclair - Chocolate Truffles Bites - Coconut Macarons The sandwiches were perfectly delicious, from bread to filling to seasoning to fresh salads.
