This French patisserie and breakfast place is amazing.. we had been to this place multiple times and tried the meringue, the different patisseries, amazing!!.. but the breakfast is even more heavenly.. the frittata omelette is a pure delight.. I normally add smoked salmon as extra protein to it.. the goat cheese is so velvety.. to finish it off, coffee French style [[HIGHLIGHT]]The ambiance is also very bakery style.. love the Paul Hollywood British bake show episodes being played regularly on the nice size screen in the background.. also the water is served in bormiolli rocco textured water glasses..[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]
Went to Versaille for the first time a few days ago. It was on a Saturday morning. [[HIGHLIGHT]]My friend and I were concerned it'd be super busy so we got there at 9am. Well, we not only got a comfy seat, but it never got completely full.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Sure there were people in line for pastries, but they took to go.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We stayed till 10:30 and it never got crazy busy. Yay! This review is mostly for the experience. I didn't want a huge breakfast, so asked if I could just order toast and a couple eggs. They were great about this and charged me fairly. I also got a vanilla latte, which was great. We mostly wanted to spend time together in a comfy, not crazy-busy place. That's hard to find on a Saturday morning. But we found this gem and it was perfect. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor was cute, very pink and had the British Baking Show on the huge TV the whole time.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Haha, it was so funny ... there wasn't sound, so it wasn't distracting. Kinda added to the vibe. The servers were great - any of them at any time would take our order, answer questions or bring our food. It didn't matter. They were all helpful and aware. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There's outdoor seating as well. I think it's got something for everyone.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Unfortunately I didn't try any pastry, next time I will. Great place and worth a try!
I have previously only gone to Versailles for just pastries which have all been great but this was the first time I came for breakfast and was surprise how incredible the avocado toast was! It had caramelizad onions and a perfectly poached egg on it. The fruit cup was a a great selection and very fresh. The mocha was great too! [[HIGHLIGHT]]We sat outside and it was very relaxing and our waiter was very attentive.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I would love to try more items on the menu.
We met a friend here for a weekday brunch. With a choice of indoor and outdoor seating, we opted for a table on the patio, which overlooks the parking lot. I started with a croissant (2/5) and coffee (4/5), like I would do in Paris. Sadly, the croissant fell short -- warm but soft, not crispy. For brunch, we had: Normand Eggs Benedict (3/5) -- Smoked salmon, two poached eggs, and hollandaise sauce on English muffin, with tomato and potatoes (3/5). The eggs were poached hard. ($20) Quiche Lorrain (4/5) -- This classic French egg dish, made with ham and Swiss cheese, is a favorite of mine. Versailles did a very good job, and the portion served was generous. It was served with a side salad of mixed greens with a nice vinaigrette dressing (4/5). ($18) Service was slow, maybe because we were the only ones dining on the patio. Coffee refills were slow in coming. A negative for the patio is the traffic noise from El Camino Real.
[[HIGHLIGHT]]This spot is so cute![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Initially I was a little nervous because I'm all sure we've all experienced a cute spot, but the food was mid at best. I'm so glad this spot was both cute AND the food was delicious. What we got: - Panini Orleans: grilled chicken, mozzarella cheese, pesto -- such a classic and yummy panini - Mixed Berries and Nutella Crepe -- my mom really enjoyed their crepes and finished almost an entire one to herself lol The service here was also impeccable, you can tell they have their regulars, so you know it's good! The lady who took my order was beyond kind and even told me that the owner of this spot was from Versailles, France and wanted to bring the flavors and cuisine here.
The good: great pastries and croissants. Food is good too. The Bad: terrible service if you decide to dine-in and order at your table. This is not a one-time occurrence either. Been here 3 -5 times in the past 2 months. Today was the topper though. They gave us menus when we walked in and despite 3 different employees walking right by, over a 10 minute period, none of them acknowledged us. Not even the server serving the table right next to us. So I get up and walk to the register where 3 employees are hovering around the front counter, nobody really doing anything that seemed urgent. I let them know we've been sitting and waiting for a good 10 min plus for someone to take our order. Gal at counter took my drink order and says someone will take my order when they bring my cappuccinos. Great, I guess we'll be waiting another 5 or so minutes to place our order. Once they took our order, food came out in a reasonable time but that was it. No checking back with us or any of the standard sit-down restaurant service. I even had to go up to register to grab my check. It's a shame a restaurant with better than average food can't perform average customer service. Pastries are solid 4.5 stars but I am giving 2 stars to see if we get the attention of the owners/management. PS. There was lipstick on my coffee cup too.

There were not signs, so i just got in line to order, at the register i gave my order- no clear menus for food in site- even the lady behind me asked me, i told her im using my phone to see the online menu, once i got to the counter the individual asked "your getting your french toast to go? Or wait are you at a table already" i thought it odd, i confirmed i was eating at a table or counter just had not picked it out yet. Then thats when i noticed other people just as confused as me. I went to the counter with my number. I started to notice that people already sitting and eating were being brought their check. And their orders being taken. So then it clicked- counter is for to go, if you dine in just sit at a table or counter and wait for someone to notice to take your order. Over all the food is good the macchiato was fantastic just confusing as a first timer going in. Very cute place with delicious breakfast and pastries. I had a breakfast sandwich and a cup of chai latte. Sandwich is very good with croissant bread and silky fluffy eggs inside. The chai latte is over sweet but the taste is pretty nice. I also love the atmosphere here, but it's a little bit too squeezed. The service is nice but a little bit slow.
Versailles Café is such a charming gem in Encinitas! I stopped by for breakfast and had the Florentine omelette along with a blueberry tart, and everything was absolutely spot on. The omelette was perfectly cooked -- not runny, but more on the well-done side, just how I like it -- and generously packed with fresh spinach and mushrooms. It came with a side of fresh fruit that was actually fresh (not the usual mushy kind you sometimes get elsewhere), and every bite tasted bright and delicious. The blueberry tart was the perfect finish -- lightly sweet, with berries that were perfectly ripe and bursting with flavor. You can really taste the care that goes into their pastries. If you're craving fresh pastries, sandwiches, quiches, or a cozy breakfast spot, Versailles Café is the perfect stop in Encinitas. I'll definitely be back to try more!
This place has THE BEST raspberry tart ive ever tasted in my LIFE. I'd go out of my way to get it. Its got fresh berries on top & its filled with what tasted like creme brulee to me! So fancy and so so worth the price. The crust also held up the whole way; it didnt fall apart and dump custard everywhere on the plate. THAT is the mark of a good tart. My mom had the quiche lorraine and she enjoyed it! The brie was incredible. I had a sadly disappointing chicken sandwich. The bread was amazing and i ended up getting some (french!) butter which was delish and just eating the bread. The chicken kinda tasted funny to me. It was good with some of my mom's brie on it tho haha I would absolutely come back here and maybe get breakfast because someone next to us got french toast and i almost ran over there to eat it myself. Such an adorable little cafe with a French flair. You can get pastries to go or sit down and enjoy the vibe. I had the cheese and spinach quiche which came with a slice of Brie cheese on top and a salad of mixed greens - delicious! We also shared a raspberry tartlet, which made me wish I had more room for more dessert! Service was a little spotty, but overall not bad. I'd love to come back and try the chocolate creme brûlée
Late afternoon picked up a few beauty, fancy delectable desserts for a 25th birthday. Nice selection, chose the healthy colorful (favorite) blueberry butterfly tart, the raspberry macaron, and a chocolate birthday sprinkled truffle for a nice trio. Fast friendly service. Easy parking. No Vegan but vegetarian which suits the birthday lady.

Such a cute place! Came here for some brunch before heading to the Botanical Gardens. We stood in line to get in for about 10 minutes-it's definitely a busy place and probably could get busier! Service was good, but again they were busy...food was great! This was our first time here and we didn't get to try the pastries, but they look very promising. I am always on the hunt for the best pastries around because after visiting Europe and having pastries there, nothing here in the US compares! read more

I'm not sure how long Versailles has been open, but for whatever reason I only just recently came across it and I'm so glad I did!! Just an absolutely delightful French cafe and pastry shop. The desserts and pastries are gorgeous and so unique. I also ordered the American Breakfast Sandwich and have been thinking about it for the last 2 days- it was that good. We are from Oklahoma visiting family, and my MIL decided to take us here for breakfast. I got a breakfast sandwich with potatoes and a rose aka spring bloom/blossom dessert. I really enjoyed my breakfast, and my son and hubby also enjoyed their meals as well. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Loved the vibe of this place, can't wait to come back in the future![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Oh, almost forgot! I ordered a rose latte, and OMG so good! 4 stars Tried this French bakery with my whole family--my parents, younger sister, and my immediate crew. Overall, nothing was bad about the place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Everything tasted good, the service was fine, and the space had a really pleasant, clean, and breezy California vibe.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The big front windows were open, and we enjoyed sitting outside.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I had what I believe was a special--a Parmesan chicken sandwich. The chicken had a European feel to it, almost like a Czech-style preparation, and it was tasty. That said, I felt like it was missing something--maybe a sauce or extra punch of flavor to really make it pop. We also got one of their rose desserts to go, which was visually beautiful and delicate. My mom didn't love her sandwich though--she mentioned that the baguettes can be hit or miss in terms of freshness, depending on the day. So while I've had better French bakery experiences, this is still a solid 4-star spot. Good food, lovely atmosphere, and worth a visit if you're in the mood for something casual and classic. read more

Great first experience! This cafe was in my to-try list and a couple days ago I had to go to that area and was the perfect occasion... especially because it was hailing! Yes, hailing in Encinitas! Nothing like finding Versailles when doing a search on Yelp and finding that not only they have excellent coffee, but the number of pastries is just amazing. The restaurant is cozy, cute, and welcoming. I like the Eiffel tower decor so brings us a little bit of Paris in SoCal, why not? I had a perfect cappuccino and an oranais, which is one of those flakey pastry with cheese and apricot or peach. Super delicious, can't wait to go back again and get some to bring home for next day too! I like how I was able to sit at the bar and watch the people at the kitchen burning the top layer of the famous creme brulee. I have so much deliciousness to try there for sure! read more

We came here around noon and it was crowded inside. We decided to sit on the patio which was super cute. The tables had light pink placemats with a lovely texture to them. The tables and chairs looked very parisien. It's been 1 year since I've been here and the prices have went up slightly, but it is still so much better than other French Patisseries/Cafes! The ginger haired worker allowed us to order at the counter where we got our Oranais (an apricot pastry $6) & the Pain Aux Raisins (a raisin roll $6). He was welcoming and kind. The Oranais aux abricots is a pastry that I haven't had before. It's a new favorite!! The pastry is cooked perfectly and probably has an apricot glaze on top for that beautiful shine. The apricots are plump and sweet, not grainy or soggy. The pastry cream is smooth and delicious too. The pastry has beautiful layers as well! This time they didn't ask if we wanted the pain aux raisins to be warmed up, but it's ok. It was as big as the plate and had ample amounts of raisins. I love the depth of flavor the raisins had. It was beautifully caramelized and had a lovely shine to the top. A very delicious pastry that is big enough to share. I highly recommend this spot! I was shopping at TJMAXX in El Camino Promenade, then on my way out I saw Versailles Cafe and pastries. I decided to go with my family to have some French pastries. I was very impressed with the beauty of the place and the qualities of the pastries and the desserts they have. We ordered many pastries and desserts to try there and took some to our hotel, we got; -Oranais Apricot Croissant - Chocolate Eclair - Raspberry Eclair - Vanilla Eclair - Royal - Spring Blossom - Coconut Macarons Everything was exquisite. The service was top notch. The vibe was charming and relaxing. We hadn't had the chance to try their sandwiches in the first visit.We stopped again for two consecutive days to try their sandwiches and more pastries. For the next visits, we ordered for lunch; -Parisian sandwich with salad -Veggie sandwich with fries -Croque Monsieur with salad -Vanilla eclair -2 iced raspberry truffle lattes Then, we also got some desserts to go: - Pear Tartlet - Pistachio Cloud - Chocolate Eclair - Chocolate Truffles Bites - Coconut Macarons The sandwiches were perfectly delicious, from bread to filling to seasoning to fresh salads. Everything was exquisite! The iced raspberry Truffle lattes were outstanding! I am fond of all the desserts and the pastries. Everything was Phenomenal! The sweet girls we dealt with went above and beyond to serve us. They were smiling and very attentive . We had quality time in our visits. I don't mind to drive to Encinitas to have a nice breakfast / lunch and enjoy the great food, excellent service and the welcoming vibes. read more

Another visit to the cafe for brunch on a Saturday. They still have my vote for homey comforts. I ordered their Parisian Eggs Benedict. So fresh and rich! Served with baby greens, just perfect! Hubby had their Quiche Lorraine. It was very tasty but a tad firmer than we'd have preferred. Pastries were for the to go bag. Mmmmm... even hours later they were still amazing! 10/10 overall. The most buttery and flaky croissants and perfectly made coffees. Very cute interior and European style outdoor seating. Our waitress was super kind and attentive. Truly a great place to sit with a friend for a catch up--could definitely see myself becoming a regular here! read more
