Having spent 3 years in the Pacific Northwest and experiencing the coffee culture up there, We are a little Picky with Coffee quality and usually in Southern California it's expensive and isn't worth it. Making our way down to San Diego and took the coastal route. My thought was to stop at the first "coffee stop" I could see. Bump stood out and we luckily found a spot behind the place. Parking is tight but there's about 6 spots. The menu is real small. Simply the basics, hot or iced coffee. I opted for an iced with cream and sugar. It was good. Great breakfast or lunch option when in Cardiff. Opens early, 6:00 am. Great selections and carefully crafted coffee drinks. Freshly made breakfast empanadas that are tasty: both vegetarian and meat. Really tasty yet also pricy. Friendly staff. The place has a loyal following. Prices seemed a tad steep, but doable. Not sure what to make of the large flag. Not bad, just curious about the symbolism. Interesting that one morning when we passed by, there were many law enforcement officers socializing and hanging out. We saw this coffee shop while driving down the coast one Saturday morning, so we stopped to check it out. The front street parking was full, so we turned the corner and parked in the neighboring street...short walk back down. Once we walk into the bright, open and airy shop, we were greeted right away with a beautiful friendly smile (always plus points for me!). Nobody ever answered the phone when I was trying to make an order to pick up and there was no way to leave a voicemail because it said the mailbox was full. I attempted many calls on a couple of different days. I was trying to order empanadas for my daughter's birthday. I hesitate to leave this review because I don't want to make my favorite coffee / breakfast place in town overly crowded. With that being said this place rules. The coffee is amazing and really gets you going. The empanadas or rollies are both amazing and equally delicious. But more so the reason for this review is the staff. Everytime I go in no matter who is working they are always super friendly and welcoming. From the food to the coffee to the smiles, it's a really nice way to start to day. These guys make great pour over coffee. This new location is in Leucadia or North Encinitas. The address is correct, but the not the pin on the map. I have recently edited it and ask Yelp HQ to correct the mistake. I had the Bali Pour Over and a Italian Sausage Empanada which are supplied by Empanada Kitchen San Diego. The Pour Over was amazing. It was super smooth and rich. Its over all flavor was of citrus and chocolate overtones. Great coffee. I was super excited that Bump Coffee is offering Chef Matia's empanadas from Empanada Kitchen. The Italian Sausage with scrambled eggs and mozzarella cheese breakfast empanadas was super. They offer a variety of breakfast empanadas. We made a quick stop to grab a drink. The atmosphere was relaxed and cozy. The food smelled delicious and the other customers seemed to be enjoying it. The staff was very friendly. The only downside was the Aloha Passion Fruit drink we bought. It came in a standard 16oz plastic bottle but cost $11! It looked intriguing, so I bought it, but it tasted worse than Tropicana orange juice with a hint of passion fruit. I did not finish half the bottle. I strongly suggest avoiding this juice.
