Loved stopping in while driving down the coast. We were lucky enough to find parking on the street a little ways down. This place has seating everywhere, inside, outside, upstairs, downstairs... The menu is vast and baked goods a'plenty. I ordered the Vietnamese iced coffee and it's probably the best one I've ever had.. we also split one of their breakfast burritos and took a couple treats home for later. I visited their location  in Encinitas today to meet a friend and unfortunately had a very disappointing experience. I ordered the Greek scramble, which comes with a bagel. When my food arrived, the bagel had visible mold on it. It was very concerning that this wasn't caught before being served. I brought it to the attention of the staff member who delivered the food. Instead of taking the plate back and replacing the meal, he simply removed the bagel from my plate and brought another one. Given the situation, I would have expected the entire dish to be remade. Additionally, the coffee mug I was given appeared dirty, which added to my concerns about overall cleanliness. I later felt sick and experienced symptoms consistent with food poisoning, possibly related to the meal. For the quality of food and service provided, the pricing felt unreasonably high. The overall experience did not reflect the cost. I'm really disappointed with the lack of quality control and how the situation was handled. I hope management takes food safety, cleanliness, and customer service more seriously moving forward. read more

Pros: Great coffee, we had a flat white and latte and both are very good. The atmosphere is cute, and has a variety of spaces to settle in. The gift shop is a nice touch, too. Cons: We came ready to get a full day of work done, bought our coffees and food and sat down, only to find they don't have wifi until 3 pm! I've literally never heard of such a strange thing. According to the staff, "the owner doesn't turn on the wifi until 3pm". What on earth? Basically, if you want to come and work you better have your own hotspot. Didn't know that before we arrived, and was pretty disappointed, so instead of working there for the day and spending more money on their food, we left early. Plus we were sitting down in the lower area on the couches and there was a strange odor that lingered around, so that wasn't exactly tempting us to stay. Also, they make all kinds of gluten-free muffins, but none are safe for those with allergies/gluten sensitivity, so what's the point?? The lemon poppyseed is tart and soft without being too sweet. The outdoor seating overlooks Highway 101 and is a relaxing place to enjoy your drinks. I'm a strict black coffee or Americano drinker, no additions. Pannikin always nails it. The parking lot is on the smaller side and typically full. Street parking is key. Currently, they are doing a remodel inside so the coffee counter is out front. Great coffee, relaxed vibe, and a very comfortable place inside and out with plenty of seating. cruising up the PCH from the Seaside Market in Cardiff i glanced over my shoulder and saw a yellow looking house with a giant sign out front said Pannikin. Since i was driving I did not stare too long but noticed on the sign was a picture of a kettle. I was on route to Carlsbad when i decided to take a quick Uturn. I am a Tea Connoisseur so had to stop in to see what this place was about. immediatly walked into the loose leaf section and gawked at a wall of goodness. the lady working behind the counter was helpful with my questions and I got a lot of good intel about the area. I live 2 hours north so my Orange County weekends are more like vacations. I ended up getting a coconut ginger blend tea. it was as awesome as that sounds. I drank half of it hot and the other half over ice. both versions were delectable. I normally go for just natural nothing blended style teas but they had such an amazing variety i had to try this one. the interior vibes are so chill and relaxing. This place is Totally my cup O TEA! This is my favorite tea spot i have discovered yet. apparently they have several locations but i doubt they are as cool as this location. not too far from the ocean. I love Pannikin!! There's no other cafe that has this ambiance, truly one of a kind. I've tried so many things off their menu, there's nothing I wouldn't recommend. This was the first time I ordered the Yerba, quiche/salad combo, and chocolate cake! They were all super good. Quiche- perfect always Mango chutney chicken salad- sooo good I didn't even use the dressing that accompanied it! Chocolate cake- their cakes are always very sweet, dense, and huge I love coming here, it always makes my day with the bright exterior, vibrant community, and the huge menu for any mood. I also liked the goods for sale right as you walk in. We ate outside on a nice day and it was lovely. However, it was hard to find parking--we had to park a few blocks away. Disappointed this time, instead of the yummy latte I was expecting, I got essentially a "Cafe au lait". Gf blueberry muffin was awesome, to be sure, but the latte was sad. I seriously don't understand any of the negative reviews here or why it isn't rated higher. Was in town with my family for two nights and wanted to find a coffee shop type breakfast spot with something for everyone and this absolutely checked every box. I'm a coffee snob and got an americano that was perfect, my husband got an iced tea that he loved. My two small kids ordered bagel sandwiches and a cinnamon roll, which were so good I was shocked my the roll, and the bagels were huge and soft. My husband got the breakfast tacos and I got spinach mushroom quiche, all amazing. We were so happy with this meal we are coming back tomorrow instead of finding a second new spot. Will definitely be back every time we are in town to visit Legoland. I almost didn't pick this spot because I usually go for 4 stars or higher but I'm SO happy we gave it a try - (also the employees were perfectly friendly, basing an entire review on the fact that the hard working women at the front aren't smiling at you more is pretty insane.) I've been coming to Pannikin for a while now, and it really is one of those places that feels like part of the community and an Encinitas staple. The coffee and tea are always great. Everything tastes fresh, and they actually make almost everything daily. I've tried a bunch of different drinks and have never been disappointed. The pastries and food are solid too and fit the whole vibe of the place. The staff is a huge reason I keep coming back. All the baristas are seriously the sweetest and make you feel taken care of. Skye, one of the baristas is super friendly, easy to talk to, gives great recommendations, and she is the cutest barista and such a tea enthusiast when she's in the shop. She adds such good energy and honestly everyone does. There's just something special about Pannikin. I had a brief visit here a while back. I had driven by here multiple times and finally had time to stop by. This charming coastal coffee shop is set up inside the old train station for Encinitas. Love the interior and the decor. The building is opened up and very airy. The coastal breezes weave in and out keeping everyone comfortable. I wasn't looking for anything to eat so I of course had to try their Matcha. After I placed my order I discovered the global tea and coffee room. What a wonderful find. So many teas and coffees to choose from. They offer black teas, oolong, organic teas, green teas and some strong smelling coffee beans. All fresh and waiting for one to purchase. The outdoor sun-drenched patio was so inviting on the day I came, I truly enjoyed sitting outside and people watching. My only disappointment was my drink. I realize Matchas are not every coffee/tea places specialty but this one was just tasteless. Service was quick and efficient but not overly friendly. This review is for a rainy day refuge in the historic train station and highly functional coffee roasting, super pastry baking café, known as Pannikin Coffee n Tea, in Leucadia. We sought coffee, breakfast, and refuge on this rainy day, and found it to be quite tasty & cozy. The bake goods was a relative cornucopia of flour, sugar and amazing pastries. Under the glass it looked as though it was a baked goods utopia, or heavenly place. Which left me to ponder this: If Dantè and his theoretical hell has many levels of peril and pain, then there must be an equal and opposite Heaven, with layers or levels of heavenly bliss. Pretty sure this bakery would qualify as such. A nirvana of baked goods full of flavor and texture. That said, for me, it's more of actual layer of temptation and hell... that's because I really try not to eat these types of things.... Very good, mocha coffee too.
