I've been going to The Beacon Shopping Center and didn't realize there was a Lofty Coffee in the area. I was curious to try this La Costa location to see if it upholds their mission. Just a heads up, parking may be an issue depending on the time and day but you'll eventually find a spot somewhere. Inside and outside of Lofty, there's plenty of seating available. I like the layout of this one and it's larger...an absolutely perrrfect spot to chill and/or catch up with friends. The staffs' awesome customer service skills were consistent based on my past experiences at other locations. Just remember, you'll have to put the disk on the circle on the table so they can find you. I misunderstood and placed the disk anywhere on the table. Anyhow, that's the only location with this method which was new to me. The food was pretty good but wish my Yogurt, Fruit & Granola had more fruit to balance out the yogurt. Their breakfast sandwich is delicious. I love their Mocha latte hot. They use a very deep dark chocolate that is not super sweet- love it! The service is great! Everyone here is friendly and polite. There's a nice patio in the back with tables. A great place to chill out with a favorite coffee drink. I tried something different today: Dubai latte! It was good but very rich. My go to coffee spot in the beacon! Located in the Beacon with plenty of parking and other cute shops. I'm surprised I haven't review this place given how often i frequent this place. The matcha is the BEST I've had ever in the states. Everything I've had on their breakfast menu hasn't disappointed either. My favorite is the breakfast sandwich on a croissant with tomato jam. When I'm feeling healthy, I'll get the Cedros (no carb brekkie). The staff and ambience have always been nice too. I came here in between work and picking up family from the airport. I wanted to get food and a tea, but then changed my drink to the Seasonal Pumpkin Pie Cloudy. I'm such a sucker for anything seasonal. It was a pretty good Kyoto-style cold brew, house-made pumpkin spice, shaken organic heavy cream. I sure do love a cold brew coffee. I also got The American sandwich. Which came with Artisan multi grain bread, roasted turkey, aged cheddar, dill pickle, sweet onion, mustard aioli & a side of ceaser salad. It was pretty appetizing. The Artisan multi grain bread was nice and soft and a little crunchy. The pastries they had looked so good. I got the matcha donut. It was too sweet for some of my family, but I enjoyed them. It was a nice bittersweet taste for me. It's been a long time since I have been to a Lofty coffee shop. I did enjoy visiting their booth at the Del Mar food & wine fest this year. Coffee is great, when you get it, two stars for that. The service is a snails pace. I used to come in every Sat before class, but it usually takes 10-15 to order, and 10-15 to get your drink. You'll notice one person on the register, 3-5 staff hanging out by the espresso machine. C'mon you guys. If you have tons of time and don't mind the wait, worth stopping in. I just had a bizarrely exceptional breakfast. The poached eggs with the avocado toast is spot on (The Encinitas) is a banger. The iced cold brew has such a depth of flavor and this is where it's easy to recognize that there are different grades of coffee. And Lofty is on the very high end. Clearly the beans are grown, processed and roasted with great care. The place was buzzing, it was packed, but I didn't have to wait long and I still found a table. The service was also exceptional. A new hire trainee took my order, but she was being chaperoned by a manager, and they collectively delivered an exceptional experience that was both swift and memorable. I like my coffee black. I buy beans, have them ground in the store, and make my morning coffee with that. I've had fresh coffee from Lofty Coffee before and it's amazing, so when I ran out of coffee recently, I decided to buy a pound here, have them grind it, and bring that home with a fresh cup of coffee. This place was busy when I walked in and I thought I might have to wait a while, but that turned out not to be the case. The young woman who helped me was smiling and friendly, and created a welcoming vibe that made me feel like I mattered. Attitude is everything, and I really appreciated that. Not being familiar with their coffees, I told her I like medium to dark roast and could she recommend something. Based on her recommendations, I bought a bag of Morning Dove and they ground the beans for me. I also bought fresh coffee so I wouldn't have to make it when I got home. I don't recall what the fresh coffee was, but it was excellent. I also love the Morning Dove, which I brewed the next morning. I'm giving Lofty 3 stars for a few reasons. I like to buy coffee in 1-pound bags. Lofty sells it in 12 ounce bags. And, it's pricey. I paid more than I normally pay and got significantly less. During this time of economic upheaval and continually rising costs, I don't see myself making Lofty Coffee a habit, despite how good the coffee is. I also wanted to take home a cup of whatever they were brewing that day. I asked for the biggest size. They had just one size and it was small, so I bought two. I put lids on to carry them out, and as soon as I picked the cups up, the lids popped off. I tried again and got the same result. An employee tried to help but he couldn't get the lids to stay on either. So, he went and got a roll of tape and taped the lids on. Not the classiest solution, but hey, it worked! read more

Even with a line out the door, the staff kept things moving quickly without missing a beat. Have been here at least 2-3 times per month in the past couple of years, typically between 7:30 am - 8:30 am, and within the past few months there have been no pastries available during this time due to "delay in delivery". This has been extremely frustrating as what was originally one of my top preferred coffee shops is no longer feasible to stop in for a coffee and quick bite on the way to work and has become one that I can no longer rely on unless I have 30 plus minutes to order and eat something from the kitchen. Randomly found this place while charging my Tesla. Was looking for a Matcha Latte and saw one that had peppermint and other ingredients I was not interested in, so I asked for a basic matcha latte. They said that was fine and can accommodate. Of course I received the one on the menu, which I took to go and could send back. It was unique and I drank all of it but would not get it again. The strong mint flavor was overpowering the matcha. I did enjoy the turkey avocado croissant. It was delicious!! I loved the ambiance and would have enjoyed sitting inside or in the outside space, but too bad I had to get going to some work meetings. read more

They had an endive salad that had barely any endives in there. Service is slow and staff often seem bored and unwelcoming. If you ask for the WiFi, they'll tell you the password but won't tell you WiFi only works at the main table by the entry. Any other spot in or outside of the shop you won't get WiFi. The coffee is sour. The food is mid. The only thing nice about the coffee shop is the ambiance is nice and is at a nice mall. It damn. It could be so nice. read more

The coffee speaks for itself, very good quality and flavorful. I tend to get a latte or a traditional black coffee and my wife is a devout fan of their almond milk latte. They do have many other drink options on their menu but I tend not to venture off from what I know I like early in the mornings. The croissant, sausage, egg and cheese breakfast sandwich is a 10/10. It comes with a chutney that adds the slightest bit of sweetness to the savoriness of the sausage and it is delicious! I was recently down in the area visiting and made this a stop every single morning for the breakfast sandwich and a coffee. The staff is always very nice as well. The disappointment was with the breakfast. The sausage and eggs were cold and the most awful part is I could taste dishwasher on my fork or plate. I couldn't tell which one. Went here for a gathering of friends on a Tuesday at 10:30 am. Parking lot was pretty full the shop was pretty busy . Long line to order but it moved very quickly. We placed our orders, luckily found a couple tables and were served within 10 minutes. The servers bring everything to your table . The coffee drinks were beautiful and delicious! I had the gluten free French toast . It was a lighter appetizer like version of the normal French toast , so it was perfect, and the fruit was delicious also ! I ordered a cafe mocha drink. Granted we arrived during what seemed to be a peak time (tables full of people and line to order about 8 people deep) on a Friday morning around 10am, we decided to give them another chance and order. Order placed at 10:15ish for two coffees, and two sandwiches. 15 mins later, no tables opened up and it seeemed that no one was going to leave any time soon, so we asked to get our order to go. 20mins Ted later our food is handed to us in a bag (roughly 35 mins after ordering) and we noticed my wife's coffee order was never made, so we went back to get it. Finally when we get home, our order was missing part of the food, which was the bread for the avocado toast. Really? PS mind you this was after tipping 20%. I really wish they could offer tipping *after service is rendered* This is the second time I have had a bad experience here and will not come back. I used to frequent this location and the ones in Solana Beach and Encinitas very often. The coffee was consistently good back then, and I used to rave about it to all my friends. This was my first visit since last year, and the customer service has drastically gone downhill here. I understand that everyone has their bad days, but all three employees working behind the counter?? It wasn't busy when I first approached, and I smiled at the staff. All the girls looked away or down, and it took them a bit to finally greet me as if I was inconveniencing them. That was the first red flag... After receiving my mocha, I found it very bitter and not made correctly as requested. When I kindly asked the barista to remake the drink, she gave me a blank stare and didn't say anything before proceeding to do so. The second one wasn't good either, so I just accepted that the quality had gone down. Bummer... I also ordered a pastry and was waiting for it near the area where they used to put their coffee and food take-out orders. None of the staff acknowledged that items were waiting on the opposite side of the counter. They just looked at me a few times until I finally asked if the pastry was ready after the line grew and then died down. My pastry was now not warm at this point... As someone who worked in customer service for a long time, I'm baffled at how poorly trained and/or unmotivated these employees were. This was my first time here. I met up with a friend on a Friday morning to catch up. There was a line out the door to place orders. I ordered a decaf almond mocha with 1/4 of the syrup to-go in case I didn't finish it. I also ordered a The Encinitas with fluffy eggs and gluten free bread. There's a good amount of seasoning on the egg and avocado. The mocha had the right amount of sweetness for me. There's seating out front, inside, and even out back. Visited this Beacon site today, ughh!! The traffic flow is poorly planned. The condiment station in the back of the building where customers are seated. And the staff are disengaged and couldn't care less about customer service. Yet coffee is very expensive, tastes bad, and yet they ask for a tip with each order. No, I don't think so!!
